I stayed at the Hotel Monteleone for two nights. The first morning, I got wake-up calls at 5:30 a.m., 5:32 a.m., and 5:36 a.m. I had not requested wake-up calls. Later, I discovered that 100% of the hotel received these wake-up calls. That's pretty terrible, especially waking up that early after a night in New Orleans. That's 90% of my complaints about the hotel, but I do have others. The carousel was not working in the Carousel Bar. The hotel room bathroom was very, very small. You could hear a lot of street noise even from the 11th floor. Would I stay at the Hotel Monteleone again? I've stayed there a few times in the past, but I would think three times before staying there again. read more

From the moment we arrived at the Hotel Monteleone, we knew we picked the right place. Every interaction from the bell staff and front desk to the employees throughout the lobby was warm, welcoming, and genuinely memorable. One of my favorite moments was chatting with a gentleman in the lobby who helped with our luggage. We mentioned we were visiting from Pennsylvania, and he shared that his very first job was in Pennsylvania and actually knew our area. It was one of those authentic conversations that makes you feel more like a guest than just another room number. Our room in the older section was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. Housekeeping and the nightly turndown service were exceptional. We also spent plenty of time at the pool, where the staff and bartender were fantastic. The drinks were great, the food hit the spot, and the Fourth of July pop-up DJ made for a really fun afternoon. The service was so personal that one of the bartenders recognized us by name when we ran into her on the street a few days later. The only miss during our stay was the famous Carousel Bar. We never managed to get seats at the actual carousel during our four nights--which is understandable given how popular it is and being the 4th of July weekend. We did sit just behind it. Unfortunately, the service there was noticeably unfriendly and felt completely out of step with the incredible hospitality we experienced everywhere else in the hotel. That one experience wasn't enough to overshadow an otherwise outstanding stay. Between the beautiful historic décor, unbeatable French Quarter location, easy access to everything, and a staff that truly cares about its guests, Hotel Monteleone absolutely lived up to the hype. I was really impressed when we walked into the lobby here. The crystal chandeliers and ornate ceilings looked very upscale and elegant. The lobby was lively and even the restroom in the lobby area was luxurious.I saw the opening to the carousel bar and I was excited to try that but I was also exhausted so I got in line to check in first. Check in was fine and took a standard amount of time. The employees professional and welcomed us. Our room was quite small and a little tight on space but it had everything we needed for our stay. We weren't in the room much except to shower and sleep so it worked just fine for us. I did like that the decor leaned into that classic historic vibe that I so appreciated in the lobby area, so while it wasn't spacious, it did feel true to the character of the hotel. The location is great. We were right in the French quarter and there was a lot within walking distance. We had a great time on our trip and honestly probably only spent 10 hours or so total in our room on our two nights day and the majority of that was sleeping. Absolutely beautiful hotel! I am usually a Marriott person but here for work it definitely shows you the charm of independent properties. Check in was fast and friendly and the staff were amazing throughout! Property is absolutely stunning though it is a bit of a maze at times! The room was beautiful with calming grey and white tones, beautiful decor and an equally pretty bathroom! It was a little tight on space but was fine for one! Loved the traditional turndown - every day I would arrive back to robes, slippers and chocolates on the ned which was a nice touch! Had a lovely stay in this beautiful property! read more

The room was marginal if it was $90 I would think OK but for almost $500 a night this place for two of us in the room. We got two coffee creamers when we called and asked it took them 40 minutes to send someone up... Hotel Monteleone is not just living off their name - they are staying high quality and high end. We booked the upgraded king room and it was gorgeous. Refurbished with a makeup vanity outside the bathroom, high quality linens and pillows, blackout curtains, and no noise. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Carousel bar is a classic and can't be skipped. Food is also excellent. We loved the location as well. Close enough to walk to the top spots but not noisy. Oh Hotel Monteleone, how do I love thee? Let me count the amenities. From the moment I walked through the doors, I knew I was in for something special. After dinner on my first night, I returned to robes and slippers laid out, chocolates on the bed, and boxed water waiting patiently by each nightstand. Yes, you heard right. Turn down service. My oh my, it's been a minute since I've seen such hotel chivalry. No passive-aggressive towel reuse signs here. Instead, my makeup was lovingly arranged from tallest to shortest like a little glam army, the bed was crisp and cloudlike, and bless the design gods, all the lights could be controlled from the side of the headboard. No frantic bedside switch hunt required. The doorman called me by name every time I came and went. I see you, sir. His breakfast recommendations were so spot-on I was tempted to just hand him the reins for the rest of the trip. The front desk angel even offered me an upgrade when I checked in and I gladly obliged for a small fee. Southern hospitality is alive and thriving in this place. Now let's talk about that Carousel Bar. A spinning bar and live jazz equals instant good vibes. The band absolutely brought the house down with "When the Saints Go Marching In." People were dancing, singing, living. This place doesn't just give you a room. It gives you a scene. My last-day breakfast at Cirollo? Chef's kiss. Avocado toast with lump crab meat, yes, lump, and a side of perfectly crisped bacon. If I had a second stomach, I'd have ordered another. But the true showstopper? The rooftop pool. For a second I forgot I was in New Orleans and thought I had landed in the Caribbean. Poolside bites like caprese toast and shrimp, Palomas mixed to perfection, and water spritzing fans cutting through the 100-degree heat like they were invented just for me. Even my fellow hotel guests were lovely. We chatted poolside for hours. Bliss. If I had to nitpick, it's the half-glass rain shower situation. Let's just say, as a Black woman with a fresh weave, I wasn't trying to baptize my bundles just to rinse off. The handheld was a nice compromise, but the water rolling over the edge meant stacking towels like sandbags. A small price to pay, but a design flaw nonetheless. Still, Hotel Monteleone, I'll absolutely be back. As they say in New Orleans, Laissez les bons temps rouler. And roll they did. read more

Well... Good news and bad news. The hotel is beautiful and most of the staff are sweet... However! In an emergency they are a wreck. A transformer went out and knocked out the power. I don't know why that took out the water, but it did. Noights, elevators, or toilets from 10 pm to 6 am. No emergency plans- people sleeping in the lobby, all restrooms locked, no one with information, no help for those with medical needs, no information and not even a compassionate voice at the front desk. Where was the manager? My husband's CPAP requires electricity. Our phones died. It was a mess. After all New Orleans has been through, you would think they would have better contingency plans. read more

Unfortunately, one individual ruined the overall rating of this hotel for me. To the point I'm fairly sure I would not stay here again. Baggage checking is a service we frequently use when traveling and the poor and almost threatening attitude of the gentleman working in the room during our stay eventually made me feel unsafe. This man should not be asking where my husband is and what his name is while taking me to a room other than the check luggage room. This felt very intimidating. Hopefully this hotel corrects this issue so others do not have to be in this situation. read more

Stayed at Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans and overall had a really enjoyable experience. The location is one of the best parts -- it's right in the center of the French Quarter, so you're within walking distance to bars, restaurants, shops, and a lot of the main attractions. One of the highlights of the stay was visiting the famous Carousel Bar, which was a really cool and unique experience you don't get at most hotels. It definitely added to the fun New Orleans vibe and made the stay feel more memorable. Upgrade to the new Iberia rooms. The housekeeping staff was also wonderful -- very friendly, helpful, and did a great job keeping everything clean and comfortable throughout the stay. A couple things could definitely be improved though. The phone system in the room was not working during my stay, which was frustrating if I needed to contact the front desk. Also, a few of the light fixtures in the room were out, so the room could have used a little more maintenance and attention to detail. Overall, Hotel Monteleone is a great place to stay if you want to be in a central French Quarter location and close to the action, with some really fun hotel features and great staff. Just a few room maintenance issues kept it from being a perfect stay. read more

We came to New Orleans on a package tour and this was the hotel they booked for us Sunday through Friday. We arrived a little earlier than check-in time but were able to get to our room no problem. We even explored and found the rooftop pool, gym (with a great view of the city), spa and side entrance to the garage. Overall our stay was very nice and our bath amenities were refreshed daily. The location is great for walking to nearby antique stores, restaurants and the rest of the French Quarter. The HVAC in our room was a little loud at times so we shut it off when we achieved our ideal room temp. One odd little incident was when one day I found another elevator from the floor with the pool to an even higher roof with an open area to view the city. When I brought my wife there to see the view, and employee said we weren't supposed to be there but I told her there was no signage saying that and the elevator was not card-protected. This is my latest update based on my recent stay during the Mardi Gras timeframe. The hotel is still a very nice place to stay, but it continues to need improvements, especially at the front desk level. For the second time in a row, I was NOT recognized as an iPrefer member at check in. It was ironic since I had just received an email from iPrefer stating my status was moved up to Gold. In addition, there are "We are an iPrefer Member" signs all along the Front Desk. Once again, I recommend the staff be properly trained in this important welcome greeting. I also did not receive my "Welcome Amenity" in my room upon arrival. I went down to the Concierge Desk to inquire about it. The gentleman apologized for the oversight and said he would take care of it right away. (Previously, I was given four chocolates and now they are down to just two in a box. Being a Gold iPrefer member seems to have lost its luster at this hotel.) The majority of rooms are quite nice, but not necessarily roomy. I had a nice Traditional King Bed room with a desk table and chair and another chair to the side. It was perfect for just me. I noticed the refrigerator was larger than my last stay in a suite room, so that was a definite improvement. The bathroom has very limited shelf space for your personal amenities, but given the age of this hotel, it is to be expected. (Recommendation-You may want to consider looking at the "Preferred" rooms on the website if there are two or more of you for additional comfort.) The hotel is beautiful, and the Carousel Bar is always a fun spot for a drink. The turn down service is a nice touch. The beds are comfortable and clean, and the bathrooms are very clean also. A Keurig coffee machine is in your room, which is also appreciated. I'm just not so sure I will select the Hotel Monteleone the next time I'm in New Orleans. After walking around the French Quarter, I noticed several other options at a more reasonable price level for Reward members (I'm Gold at several hotel chains) that I plan to consider for the future. read more

Thank you to the staff and housekeeping for great accommodations during a part of my New Orleans trip. Everyone was awesome during my stay. I was in the Iberville tower which has updated rooms with state of the art features and luxury finishes. The bed was comfortable and had censors at the bottom which lights up when you step out of bed. I enjoyed the set up overall. I took off a half star for the one ply tissue paper & a half star for the finger prints stained on the wall. Housekeeping came promptly when I mentioned it. We were in New Orleans for a family reunion and decided to stay at the Hotel Monteleone because of its great location. We were really please we picked it, it is really nice. The entrance is really classy and elegant, then there is a great bar to the right with a carousel that rotates. If you see an open spot at bar--grab it! We stayed for four days and could never get a seat. We saw that there were lines at 11am to get in, then people sitting there until Midnight when it closed. It would have been nice if the hotel saved some seats for those staying at hotel, but I can see the appeal. Service was excellent and very friendly. We did sit elsewhere in the bar and the drinks are very good. I had there version of the Old Fashioned that was great. The food also looked good. The rooms themselves are really nice. We had a king-sized bed, where the sheets were very comfortable. There was a nice closet and we loved the fact that the refrigerator included two complementary waters. There were some signs that this was an older room like the lack of outlets, but generally nice. There were some issues. The shower faucet was poor, no matter how you adjusted it the pressure was very high. The phone did not work. Then one day, they never cleaned the room. Overall, this is definitely worth a visit. read more

An excellent choice of stay for my first visit to New Orleans. We wondered why our GPS was taking us a round about way to the hotel, but the parking garage is on a side street and with one ways, I recommend you listen to your GPS. It brought us right to where we needed to go. We were early and our room wasn't ready so we took everything we needed from our car and had it valet parked and stored our luggage with the hotel and headed out to explore NOLA. From parking our car to checking out, the staff was top notch. Very friendly, chatting about where we were from, helping me mail some postcards, directing to restroom, and bringing drinks in the bar - absolutely everyone we encountered went over and above in being hospitable. Our room was quite lovely. We were on the 11 floor with a view of the river. On occasion I could hear a train or siren but overall it was wonderfully quiet for sleeping. Bed and pillows sucked you in to a relaxing cocoon of sleep. Thick curtains kept it dark. Towels were plush. We headed to the bar to enjoy live music after dinner. Talented musicians played blues and jazz. Well worth the stop. The carousel bar was packed so we didn't worry about getting a ride on a stool of the spinning bar but we did get front row seats for the music. So glad we chose Hotel Monteleone. read more

My DH and I booked the Hotel Monteleone for our 30th Anniversary, hoping for a memorable trip for our "30th." And let me tell you: Hotel Monteleone delivered! From the moment you enter this exquisitely appointed hotel, you know every little thing's gonna be alright! The hotel lobby is vast and luxurious. The staff at the hotel - oh my goodness! - there wasn't a single person we encountered, from the Doormen to the Valet to the Front Desk to the In-Room Dining Staff (shout out to Priscilla for going above & beyond!) that wasn't operating at the top of their game. All of the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there and they were welcoming, knowledgeable and professional. My DH and I felt extremely cared for. Having the Doormen not only remember us but inquire about our day and making sure things were going well - wow! What a call-back to the luxury hotels of yore. Speaking of luxury, we chose to stay in a Vieux Carre Suite and it was the perfect size for us. Beautifully decorated and cozy, our suite was a lovely "home away from home" for the days we were in New Orleans. The bathroom itself was incredible, featuring so much marble and not only a shower but a large bathtub as well. Truly, EXCEPTIONAL. Another thing I feel should really be noted is the location of the hotel. Staying in the French Quarter on Royal Street, what a delight! My DH and I were able to walk to everything we wanted to - from well-known restaurants to a quick coffee and beignets, all were in walking distance. We stayed 1 night at Hotel Monteleone. The entrance to parking was behind the hotel on another street, not Royal St, so don't get worried if the street is blocked off for pedestrian use. We just continued driving past Royal and made an alternative few turns and it was painless with a large sign showing you where to enter to park. Staff were welcoming and friendly! We were able to check in at 2pm since our room was ready. Otherwise, check-in is 4pm. They also email with options for guaranteed check in early for additional costs. I opted out of that. We checked in and then began to explore! It's a great location in the French Quarter. It is located near but off Bourbon Street (that area is always so loud and obnoxious at night). You can quickly get to Bourbon St. and Jackson Square. The room was comfortable and large enough for the 3 of us in my family. We had 2 beds (not sure if full or queen). We were on the 14th floor and we could faintly hear the debauchery on Bourbon but it was not enough to wake us up or bother us. Only 1 of the 2 elevators worked but there was rarely a wait for the elevator even at check-in/check-out time. Our water pressure in the shower was fantastic! The Carousel Bar seemed very fun but we did not go due to having a child with us. It did stay busy even when it first opened so it seems to be full most all the time! We would definitely stay here again if we are in the French Quarter! read more
