Great, small community school. My son loves it. Rigorous academics but also strong focus on social emotional growth.

Hello, I'm a former 7th grader (now going into 8th grade soon) and I want to address some things…read morethat I've experienced. I don't wanna sound mean or be a Negative Nancy, but I'm just leaving some constructive criticism. Be warned, this review isn't for the faint of heart and It's serious. First of all, let's talk about the teachers. If you're an incoming 7th grader, just wish you don't get Mrs. Fiske, She's very strict and picks out popsicle sticks with students names on them if people don't answer her question. I thought we left the popsicle sticks in elementary? Anyways, here are some of the best teachers I recommend that you wish you could get for your schedule, Mr. Hansen is a very kind, understanding, and has comical humor for a substitute teacher for PE. Ms. Drutz is also kind and is a science teacher, but she got mad at me for something harmless. Second of all, let's talk about some of the things about this school that should be worked on. Taylor has a no phone rule now. "The expectation at Taylor is that all cell phones and smart devices are turned off and put away at 8:30 AM and can be turned back on at dismissal. Many students are very successful in meeting that expectation. Bullying in any form is not tolerated". Teachers are allowed to use their phones, and I see them use their phones, but students are not allowed to? and I still see students getting bullied even though "Bullying in any form is not tolerated"? that's pretty hypocritical, smh. The teachers, principals, and vice principals don't do anything about the bullying. They're blind as bats when it comes to bullying, but they have 20/20 vision and x-ray vision when they see a student on their phone. In essence, this school needs to do better and all they care about is phones.

My grandson attended Taylor for three years. All the time he was there he experienced bullying and…read morewas taunted in the classroom by other students with no staff intervention, until it became physical. There were multiple incidents of fighting over the years, but this last month he was jumped by a gang of students. While there may be a few caring teachers and staff; it isn't enough to negate the bullying and fights. Nor the lack of interest in a students well being. A few weeks ago he was harassed by a teacher. She pulled him out of class (she's not even his teacher) on two different occasions because she heard a rumor and wanted to ask him about it. During the discussions she actually made offensive, accusatory remarks to him. Her antagonism escalated when she decided to slander him in front of other students telling them to stay away from him because he was weird. As he walked away from her, she actually flipped him off with both hands. It was so hostile and abusive, another student reported it to staff and urged him to as well. Another observation is in learning and development. Following Covid; many children struggled when they got back to school and grades are low for some. Schools should focus on education and grades. There isn't any support or concern at all on grades. My grandson wasn't safe there; physically or emotionally and we struggled taking him there everyday and trusting them with his care. The only reason he wasn't pulled out was because it was the last month of school and we did not want it to impact his graduation. To date we are not aware of any actions taken regarding the teacher.

Daily Academic Support Systems (DASS) has worked out really well for my 8 year-old son, Aiden. He…read morestarted when he was in first grade. He will be returning for the 3rd year in the fall, and I will be enrolling my daughter who will be six. Initially, I had reservations about enrolling my son in DASS. The program has ~40 kids with many of them older - up to high school age. I was concerned that my 1st grader was too young, may not get enough attention, and would be bored spending all afternoon doing homework from 2:30 until 6pm. My concerns quickly went away because Marian Kong, the program director, is great. I would recommend DASS to parents who want affordable after-school homework support. And here's why: 1) My son gets help from a tutor for his homework. I don't have to spend time helping him with homework after a long day at work. It's done. 2) He is learning Chinese. A Chinese tutor comes in 2X a week and he is picking up some basic Chinese. (And he seems to enjoy it!) 3). Marian communicates well with the parents and keeps a close eye on the kids. I can either ask her to help Aiden focus on an area that needs work, or she would proactively let me know what he needs to work on or how he is progressing. They also provide additional worksheets for the kids to work on if they are done with their homework. I like her approach - with a Chinese academic focus but also balanced with the American individualized learning. She works with kids based on their individual needs. My son loves to read. So not only did she encourage him to read on his own, she had him read with other kids to help them develop more interest in reading. It also helped him build his self-confidence. 4) They are located across from the library - easy access to books (more reading). 5) There are actually many kids his age there. Aiden loves the free play time, and enjoys playing a variety of games including chess, puzzles and hide and seek.

We always felt this campus wasn't very well-known, but once you get to know it, you'll discover it's a real hidden gem. The school's curriculum is very well-balanced. In addition to solid academic programs, it offers rich courses like Art, Music, Science, and Spanish. Children not only learn knowledge but also have the opportunity to develop their interests and creativity. This year, my child's academic progress has been remarkable. What surprised us even more was his personal growth. I used to think he was quite introverted and hesitant to perform in front of others, but with the encouragement of his teachers, he was fantastic at the Winter Performance. He confidently performed on stage, which was incredibly moving. His progress in social skills has also been a wonderful surprise. Many parents think Stratford is only about academics and lacks SEL (Social-Emotional Learning). In fact, the school integrates values like respect, responsibility, integrity, and care into daily teaching through the Character Counts! program, helping children learn to communicate, collaborate, and solve problems. Additionally, I really love the communication between the school leadership and parents. The principal, director and teachers are very willing to listen to parent feedback and respond proactively to issues, making us feel that the school and family are working together to support the child's growth. The school also offers abundant after-school resources. We've participated in Music Together, Chess, and Science, and my child loved them. For Kindergarten, there are also options like basketball, soccer, tennis, Cooking, and Gardening. Starting in K, you can sign up for the after-school Chinese program, which we did. We feel it's an incredible value for the price. Overall, this is a school that gives parents great peace of mind. The integrated schedule from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm means children can complete their studies and extracurricular activities at school without needing to rush to different places every day. It's very friendly for dual-income families. This year, we've seen our child grow in academics, self-confidence, and expressive skills, and we are excited for him to continue his journey at Stratford Crestmoor.
