Accidents happen, and while visiting Enumclaw, my husband required an unexpected trip to the St. Elizabeth Hospital ER. Our ER visit was of a serious nature and I was very impressed with the modern facilities and the professional and caring staff. The Staff went above and beyond in assisting me with logistics and in working with a local pharmacy to stay open a bit past closing so that I could obtain a prescription. read more

The only thing I like about it is it's close. I went to the ER because I had a rash on my leg and it so bad. I had cellulites. I went back everyday fir the next four days because it kept getting worst. They finally decided to admit me. They had a surgeon check to see if the infection which would go straight to my knee replacement which is really. He said no won't happen. Well it did. I became septic and almost died. I literally spent the next year in the hospital in Olympia having knee surgeries and I've ant iitics. They had to remove my knee fir six months. I went in one time because I knew I had some DVT's in my leg because I've had them many times before and I know what they feel like. They checked and told me nope no blood clots. I told them they were wrong. They are experts and I'm fine. I left and drive to good Sam twenty minutes later. I was admitted to ICU. I had three blood clots two in my calf and one in my lung. If I would have taken st Elizabeth at their word the blood clot would have broke loose and killed me read more

Overall, I have no complaints about the hospital, but the ER doctor, Dr. Harris, needs to go. I've made two trips to the ER with my adult daughter. She has a chronic illness but avoids the ER at all costs. She is NOT a frequent flyer. Both of our visits we were unfortunate enough to have Dr. Harris as our physician. Both times we felt we were not taken seriously. The nurses were nice, but in both cases, many months apart, and with two completely different reasons for our visit, Dr. Harris acted the same. It was as if we had to convince him that something needed to be done. He has a constant smirk on his face, acts cocky, and no matter what you tell him, he discounts it. My daughter wanted at least an ultrasound, but he felt it wasn't necessary. When she gently told him she would feel better if it was done, he sarcastically replied, "Ok," turned around, and walked out of the room. So immature and unprofessional. My daughter and I are people who have learned good social skills, and are kind to others. We treated Dr. Harris with respect and that was all we were expecting from him in return. If my daughter has another emergency, we will call first and, if Dr. Harris is working in the ER, we will drive to Auburn. read more

You will suffer more by going here than somewhere else. We live in Puyallup, South Hill but my daughters GI doctor is Franciscan and had her admitted at ST Elizabeth when she had not been able to keep food down for 5 days and having severe pain. After tests we found that she had gal stones and needed her gal bladder removed. (she's only 18) I thought small hospital maybe it might be more specialized care. NO, worst care ever. Front Desk rude, I felt like I was begging for care the whole time I was there. On a scale of one to ten her pain level was a 7 to 9 because they constantly made excuses of what they could or couldn't do due to her being so small.(Janelle was the worst) Even after her surgery she had to wait for pain medication which then her pain levels where up. Then they prescribe her the same about of pain medication as she was having when we first came in even though she had an organ removed! There is poor communication between nurses so you will constantly receive conflicting information. They are not educated about side effects, so when my daughters crying in pain because of severe pain in her shoulder they give her an ice pack. (We found out from the surgeon that shoulder pain is a side affect due to the body's confusion of the organ missing never told this until I demanded some one else look at her) My daughter has had chronic health problems and is a warrior when it comes to pain and is not a complainer so when she's crying in pain all the time it's real. I wanted to call 911 and have her transported out of there. I couldn't believe they wouldn't manage her pain levels and make her comfortable. When I get her back home in the middle of the night she started vomiting non-stop I call the doctors and tell them I'm not taking her to ST Elizabeth again. We go to the emergency at ST Joe's Hospital. They were overcrowded but a nurse (Courtney) seeing my daughters condition and constantly vomiting & dry heaving asked us to come with her. She took vitals and put in her IV once (took nurses at ST Elizabeth three times with a machine to get in an IV) got her on fluids and pain medication and for the first time she was able to rest. St Joe's was so over crowded that my daughter was treated on a bed in the hall but the care was great and she was finally comfortable after a week in hell at ST Elizabeth. read more

First time going there today, we had to take our daughter for a procedure. Check in was fast and easy. The O.R. nurses were great!!! Jody was so awesome with our daughter and explained everything step by step and was very thorough which I think helped her not to be scared about what was going to happen. I had to bring my 11 year old son into the ER for a broken arm. We were seen in a very timely manner and the staff was exceptional at explaining everything to him as they went. My son had to have the bone manipulated in place under conscious sedation and the whole team (nurses, respiratory therapy and doctor) were extremely professional, caring and experienced. The doctor did a wonderful job and the post x-ray showed it to be aligned. This was confirmed by the ortho doctor when we went in a week later with the x-ray. The whole visit to the ED from check in to x-ray, consultation, procedure, follow up x-ray, recovery and exit of the building was just under 2 hours. Incredible service! I feel very happy that I chose to take him to St. Elizabeth ER. read more

In my wife and Myself's opinion Only, Steven Rode is an absolute horrible person. He wouldn't let me back in the ER to see my wife when she was extreme pain (some mix up with a phone call is all I was told). 2 hours later and sick my stomach I was finally able to see my wife due to a very nice supervisor who took the time to listen and understood it was a mixup, misunderstanding or a rumor (still unknown). It was an experience we'll never forget & the longest/hardest 2 hours of my life so far. With all the stress the doctor put my wife through she had to be hospitalized for 3 more days (Not in Enumclaw). My wife said she'd rather be in pain and drive 100 miles than see that doctor Rodes again. On top of everything my wife said his breath was very unpleasant which made her nauseous stomach even worst. We will never visit that hospital again until I know that Steven Rode is permanently gone from the area. read more

While the facility itself is lovely, the lack of staffing and support mean I would never return for an emergency visit. 25 rooms, all full, one doctor and one nurse, with two women whose purpose, other than standing around laughing while said doctor was struggling with the printer, we never quite ascertained. The nurse was helpful, though harried, but the doctor dismissed all of my concerns with a 'something is fractured but we don't know what, here is a cast and some drugs, and some paperwork as to why you should not got to an ER for minor issues". Two days and an orthopedist later (who was amazing, btw), my minor concerns equated to TWO breaks, one in the ankle and one in the tibia - both of which even I could clearly see on the films. It would be beyond dire to return. read more

Something's fishy about their billing. I'm on Medicare and was billed over $5000 on an operation. I did some research and discovered they have a rural exemption. Medicare gives them a break and they turn around and screw the patients. Enumclaw may be rural but it's because of land use restrictions. There are million dollar estates everywhere. Plus, the hospital is only 15 miles from Auburn hospital. I suspect fraud. If you feel you've been overcharged, file a fraud complaint with Medicare. I am. read more

The first time I ended up in the ER, I was impressed by how kind the nurses were compared to Good Sam. They took their time with me and made sure that I felt comfortable while sitting in an ER room. However, the last time I went there I wasn't as impressed. They were understaffed which I understand can cause some delay but I had a couple of nurses come in and say they were going to do something and then walked out and didn't come back. They couldn't decide if they were going to give me an IV or not but still took my blood with an IV needle, the lady who did it completely messed it up and I had blood running down my arm. They left a bag of fluids sitting at the end of my bed which completely soaked it and then left vials of blood, plus a urine sample sitting on the counter. After the doctor told me I could leave, I sat for another 30min waiting for the nurse to come in and disconnect me from everything and give me my discharge papers which he forgot to about. I'm still bruised up from the blood draw, which has never happened before. Definitely not a pleasant experience. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about the medical professionals that I saw at the hospital. My complaint deals with the business practices of this hospital. I have Medicare as well as a secondary insurance. Only at this hospital have I had to pay a balance. My bill was over $11,000.00. Medicare paid less than $150.00. My secondary picked up all but a little over $200.00 of the bill. I have called the hospital in Enumclaw, WA as well as Medicare and my secondary insurance. Nobody can explain to me why this is so. The explanation that came back from Medicare was that the charges incurred were because of the way the hospital coded the bill. Even though I applaud the Doctors and nurses, I will NEVER return to St. Elizabeth by choice. I have had the same procedure at this hospital numerous times and this is the second time that I have had a balance that I had to pay. I spent months trying to get resolution the last time and finally ended up paying the bill because I got tired of fighting with them. read more

Understaffed, Admit Dr went home and didn't see me so they tried to do some crazy online TV exam, and couldn't do it because they forgot to plug in the electronic stethoscope and it was dead, so no exam. Never saw a Dr. for 3 days following ER. No follow thru on tests ordered, went home with no results. Came in with severe fluid in lungs from Influenza, admitted (waited for a bed for 6 hours) Four days later after receiving several iv loads of antibiotics, finally I was checked for a bacterial infection. What good did it do after giving me antibiotics? Don't need to be an RN to know that all the bacteria has been killed. Got a raging yeast infection, and sick bowels for the past two weeks. Blood work for other illnesses never done. One thing that prevents the nurses (all kids under 21yrs, clueless, can't pronounce a med if you spelled it for them were all fresh out of CNA classes) is the endless stupid over the top time wasting RULES! Until you are seen by Dr. "can't drink water, can't get out of bed, (nothing wrong with legs etc) gasping for oxygen, nope can't have that. What they are really good at was sending some stupid kid in to riffle my purse, and look at every piece of paper, money, credit card and allergy med I had, and spend an hour writing it down. I handed the purse to my son, which is what I was going to do anyway. Finally, I saw Dr. Camp, the day I left. Nice guy, I felt sorry for him. He was dealing with nothing but dementia cases and couldn't get away to see anyone else that was actually sick. He said, go home, you will sleep better at home. Worst designed beds ever. The controls are located below the level of the mattress!!!! How can an ill person handle that? Even the Dr. was angry with the lousy beds. I am still very sick, going to Seattle to my doc, for follow up. I love Enumclaw, the town, the people and our clean cute new hospital, however for a non profit Community hospital they can do a much better job. STAFFING, experienced professional, not burned out, STAFF, will make this facility work much better! Lives depend on it. read more

My mother was admitted on Christmas 12/25/2015. I was very impressed with the nurses' and the doctor on the 3rd floor CCU. They came in every 2 hours and turned her & combed her hair and made sure the family was informed at all times as to what was happening. On the positive side: My wife brought me into St Elizabeth ER with extreme abdominal pain. I was fortunate that it was not busy, and I was checked in relatively quickly. The ER nurse was friendly and competent. He started an IV and gave me some medications that soon had the pain down to a bearable level. He was very considerate and explained what he was giving me and why. The ER doc was also very sharp, and after some poking and prodding, had a pretty good idea what was wrong. A CT scan confirmed I had a kidney stone. They sent me home with prescriptions and instructions to see my urologist. On the negative side: The floor in the ER room was filthy. I thought hospitals were supposed to be sterile. They had a few problems sending the prescriptions to the pharmacy, but eventually that worked out. But the worst experience came a few days later. I had some questions about the medications they prescribed. My wife called the ER to ask about these meds and was rudely shut out by the person who answered the phone. She insisted that the ER was done with me and any questions should go the specialist I was referred to. Do you know how long it takes to get in to see a specialist these days? I have 4 or 5 days worth of medications, and no appointment yet to get into the urologist. That is a typical problem with out healthcare system, not St. Elizabeth Hospital's. None the less, I can foresee a serious problem of running out of medication over the weekend, and no way to get a new prescription. Thanks for the compassion ER. Fortunately my regular doctor at White River Family Care will get me in Friday morning to check on me. read more

The only reason I'm going to be negative is to encourage others to get the health care services they need at an ER they can trust. Everybody is human and makes mistakes, although the doc on staff at this ER sent me home for unknown pain and never ordered me the proper lab tests. I ended up spending my next 8 days at Good Sam, 3 of which in ICU. Nice, clean hospital, not my first choice for emergencies. read more

Last year my wife had digestion issues. She was diagnosed as having a bad gallbladder and she had it removed at St. Elizabeth. A few months after the Gallbladder issue she then had a hernia which was repaired also at St. Elizabeth. She never really healed correctly after the hernia repair, she had a buldge just above her stomach which she pointed out to her doctors there, they all said it was normal after that operation. My wife disagreed because something just wasn't right because she was also in alot of pain in her stomach area. Last week she was at home and her pain got so bad she called an ambulance and they took her to the ER in Enumclaw because we live so close. She was there for approx 4 hrs or so and they said they "thought" she had a stomach flu virus of some kind despite the huge buldge in her lower abdomen and sent her home. No CT scans, No ultrasound etc. The next day her stomach pains were WAY worse and we drove her to Valley Medical center ER in Renton. In about 30 minutes, she was diagnosed as having a "strangulating hernia" which required emergency surgery. She had to have 3 feet of her intestine removed due to it being strangled by the hernia and then have the hernia repaired. She was about 1 hour away from dying. The Doc at Valley med center could not believe Enumclaw didn't do any type of imaging to see what the real problem was. Bottom line, Enumclaw always had a rotten reputation with the old hospital, us Enumclaw residence hoped that the brand new hospital would be an improvement and that we wouldn't have to drive the 30 miles for quality medical care but sadly that isn't the case. Do yourself or loved one a favor and go to Valley or even Auburn. These people don't know what the hell they are doing. On the bright side, they do have a really good cafeteria and I've heard they do catering. Maybe they should dump the medical services and just do food full time. read more

I came into the Enumclaw Emergency room last March with a mildly serious issue. My treatment by the admitting staff and nurses was excellent but the care by Dr. Davidson made my experience terrible. While providing no diagnosis or care, he misled and lied to me about the cost of services. He willingness to lie and mislead a patient in a vulnerable situation were terrible. What was worse, when I tried to find some solution to my grievance, Dr. Davidson and the hospital were completely unwilling to deal with me. The hospital has a patient advocate, who, while friendly is merely a front who works for the hospital and continues to extort your money. Patients really have no power when they step into a hospital except these kinds of reviews. I have been fighting these charges for a year now and this review is my only recourse for some sort of satisfaction with my terrible care with Dr. Davidson and the unwillingness of the hospital to help. When going in for routine medical care they are great. Courteous and take care of your every need. I couldn't ask for better. For this I would say they were 4 stars. On the other hand the Emergency dept. does need some changes. A year ago I had fell at a store and tore my ham string. When the ambulance took me to St Elizabeth I was given first a muscle relaxer and an hour later they tried to sit me up. I was in excruciating pain so they gave me some vicadin, and tried to sit me up a while after that. Then with no success they gave me morphine and wanted to send me home. This is after 5 hours of them trying to get me into a sitting position. I still could not set up without so much pain I was crying and to the point of passing out. I told them how was I going to get home if I cant get to a sitting position. Finally the called their supervisor and got an ok to keep me over night till they could get the pain under control. I was able to go home by the end of the next day and ended up with 6 weeks of in home therapy due to this injury. I did file a complaint and they said they would take steps to change their protocol.r read more
