Probandt is an old warehouse and the goods are presented in a commensurate fashion, making it kind of a dump to go to. BUT it is very large and they have a lot of items. The Walzam Rd location is smaller, more store-like and a lot cleaner. Selection is similar but my impression is of smaller quantities and more limited selection. They both carry a wide range of construction and household materials, whether reclaimed from remodels or demolitions, or closeouts, seconds and scratch-and-dent. They also have a lot of paints, much of which is "evolve", a brand that keeps excess project or returned paint from being senselessly dumped in landfills. Prices are better than the building materials stores, but you still need to know what a good price is, as some of the smaller household goods can be found for less elsewhere (mainly online). But bargains are to be found if you don't mind spending time browsing. I suggest coming prepared with a complete list of what you might need, so you come away with what you really want at a price that suits you. All of that said, remember that this is a thrift store for Habitat for Humanity, a very good organization that makes affordable housing available for low income people. So anything you buy supports a great cause. I would have rated this 3-stars, but the nature of what their main focus is caused me to make it 4-stars since the dollars you spend here contributes to helping people in need.

Walking in...it was quite overwhelming...there's a lotta stuff lol. Mostly organized, you'll find some cool finds- vintage hardware, antique furniture, vintage home goods, metals, old doors, tubs, garden items, you name it! Take your time perusing the place, you'll never know what you might find! They also rescue local cats and all are up for adoption! Most are fixed and have their rabies shots. Also, leashed was a super sweet dog up for adoption. They've been fostering her for 2 years. Please consider....each one of them, needs a good home! I was able to find a cool tall metal stand that I will use as a base for a bird bath. Some items are priced, but the owner is easily accessible and able to price or answer any of your questions. We met Kirt H., the owner, super friendly and knowledgeable. In the business for quite some time, most items come from home demolitions or were purchased on special trips they made along the way. Definitely unique finds, old items, a lot of choices for antiques. They also have a room where they rehome cats, which seemed odd but I appreciate that they are trying to help these cats find homes. Most of the prices that I saw seemed reasonable, but not everything was marked. Parking is odd because you are parking under the bridge between the street with cars going in each direction. Ordered back in early September and they were suppose to deliver on the 27th of October. And neither of us have a fridge in the homes that we are at. Well, they called yesterday and said for unseen circumstances they won't be delivered until November 22nd. 2 DAYS BEFORE Thanksgiving!!!! So we needed a fridge FAST!! So off we went and found American Frieght in San Antonio. We were greeted by the nicest salesperson Rita! She is a dream. She helped us look for exactly what we needed. And could get us a delivery in 2 days. Since we would eventually get our other fridges we thought we could buy smaller ones that would eventually go in our laundry rooms. Rita was just great. She wrote up both our orders, but there was a gal that came in after us, but her order got done first and took the last spot for a Friday delivery. This is where Rita did her best to help us out. She got the manager to come over and because they knew our situation with my daughter and her 3 little babies that we needed a fridge ASAP!! Jeremy did his magic and got us a delivery for the next day on Thursday! We couldn't of been more happy. Thank you Rita and Jeremy for being such great people. We will do all of our appliance shopping here from now on. Oh and P.S. Rita gave us some great places to go and to eat. We aren't from here so we had such a nice conversation with her and got some great advice.

First two times was the same person, third time I believe was a different person. Third time was lots of mansplaining, laughing at people asking about pricing, them not understand that based on the quality of the item (uneven chair because of missing padding) it was reasonable to ask about pricing on certain items. They're going out of business which I guess makes sense based on the poor quality of service and selection of items and pricing.
