I like this spot! It's cute and while it's small, it has a good selection and high quality brands. You can find most of what you need here, at least the basics - yogurt, dairy, eggs, cheese, cereals. I can't remember if they have meats besides like cured meats. A lot of snack type stuff here. It's basically like in between a bodega and a grocery store. 4 & 1/2. WOW @ this insanely good beer selection here now! Sometime within the past year or so this place SERIOUSLY updated their beer selection with a focus on rarer craft beers. Think going deep into the smaller batch offerings of many local brands in particular like Barrier, Evil Twin, Other Half and Kelso, as well as national stars like Half Acre and Stillwater among others. Its gotten to the point that it often rivals the selection of the excellent Goldstar Beer Counter a block away, minus the growlers. As you can see, whats driving this high rating is chiefly the beer selection, it really might just be quietly one of the best in BK and I hesitate to blow up my own spot but I must give credit where it is due, and its very much due here. Beyond that the place is one of the more bougie "gourmet" delis that are found throughout the metro that generally represent a step or so up from the humble bodega, both in terms of quality/selections of offerings and in pricing. I can't believe St. John's Marketplace hasn't been listed on Yelp yet. What is wrong with the world? For a first time visitor, you might notice that they are friendly (just listen to them chat with their regulars when they come in) and not *too* expensive (yeah, a little pricey, but they have a lot of organic things and honestly, Key Food is equally priced on many products). If you just visit once, it might not stand out as anything special, but having been a weekly (sometimes even twice weekly) shopper there for the past 6 months, it's similar to watching your own baby grow. Before you know it, they're all grown up and ready to face the world. But with less tantrums than a baby, which makes everyone happy. What I like best is that they clearly listen to their customers. Considering the neighborhood is becoming more and more gentrified (read: more professionals, more families, more *ahem* hipsters), it's been fun seeing the new-fangled products they get in, clearly trying to broaden their appeal. The icing on the cake was when they started selling Six Point in cans. Can life get better? I think not. read more

This place is on my block and I was so happy to have it. Then one night I asked for a pack of Camel Lights. He said he didn't have any. So I asked for whatever was comparable. The guy gave me a pack of green American Spirits which turned out to be menthol. I came back immediately (once I lit up) and told him his mistake. I asked to switch out the pack. He refused during a full 10 minute argument. I have never been in the position to have my neighborhood place refuse to make it right. I didn't expect it to be a problem especially since it was so soon after the purchase. He admitted that he didn't know he gave me menthols but that "I should have known" even though he agreed it wasn't obvious from the packaging. I don't know what to do. He knows I live on the block and didn't care. So I guess that's its for me. I wish I had a convenience store that cared about its neighbors. read more

We've lived in the 'hood 3yrs and love this deli. It closed for a facelift a while back and looks better than ever. The guys are all SO nice and the selection is nice, leaning toward the healthy/organic (so also more expensive) side which isn't the norm for p-heights delis. Good beer selection too! read more

I love St. John's Marketplace! I live across the street, and I am so glad that I do, because I have yet to come across another bodega that is as clean, well-stocked and friendly as this one. I am sometimes in there two or three times a day, for coffee in the morning and then to pick up other things for lunch/dinner. One thing that I really appreciate is the freshness of the produce - it's WAY better than what I've been getting at Key Foods lately. I pretty much only buy produce, eggs, and soda here, but I am always tempted by the other things that they have in stock - i.e. Salted Caramel gelato!? Yes, please. Also, the guys who run this place are REALLY nice and sweet with their customers. There's a lot to be said for that. Finally, they carry Bergen Bagels, which are my favorite. So extra credit there. read more

About a year ago, I ordered groceries for delivery from Brooklyn's St. John's Marketplace (323 St. John's Place) and the delivery person never showed. When I called for a status, I was told the delivery guy left with the groceries and just went home. Why did I have to call them to find that out? They had my number. I put the store on my off list until today, hoping for improvement. Alas.. When I informed them, this afternoon, that they sent me sliced turkey other than the smoked version I asked for, the person who answered the phone said he didn't know the difference because he doesn't eat the food from there. ??? They have also given me no guarantee that they will return my money for the sandwich or for the one other wrong item they sent me. I am unable to go in person to insist on a refund so I'm stuck. Great neighborhood spot. The place is clean, well stocked with a great variety of items and the guys who work there super friendly & they always remember us. Their produce is good and they have organic products. Bagels (toasted there) are good, too. They are open until 9pm on Sunday. read more

Great, clean and well stocked market with very friendly staff. My daughter, who is 23 and developmentally delayed and I moved here four years ago and the guys could not be nicer. She feels totally comfortable going in on her own to get groceries, sandwiches etc and they are always patient and kind. Sure it's a but more $$ for some things but quality is good with lots of organic stuff. So glad they are in our hood! read more
