My husband and I always wanted our children to have a Christian education but were new to Katy when our oldest turned 5. When we enrolled in 2017, BCA was extremely small (only 40 kids). Each year the school has grown and next year I hear we will have 400 students K through 12. This is really exciting, because the highschoolers will have more opportunities such as athletics through TAPPS and FFA. My kids are athletic and love to play multiple sports. At BCA sports begin in 5th grade and they are able to play volleyball, flag football, basketball, and run track and cross country. Apparently it's on the horizon that BCA will offer baseball and 7 man tackle football soon as well. While it is wonderful that we are now able to provide some of these opportunities to the kids, that is not what keeps us at BCA. BCA is special because while many schools are Christian only in name, BCA teaches every single subject through a biblical lens. Why do we teach students math? Because God is a God of order and He gave us math as a tool - it is worthy of learning! Why teach students science? Because all the world is His creation. We also value BCA teachers are not simply trying to cram information into students so that they test well - they want the students to love learning. I feel like every teacher my child has had (and at this point we have had over 50 across my 3 children) has truly seen my child for who they are and worked with them to grow their individual gifts and improve areas where they struggle. The teachers don't just care for the students during the school year either - it's year round. My daughter's math teacher is hosting a Bible study for her home over the summer for the girls. Another thing I love about BCA is that they teach the kids to treat others with respect. The students say "yes ma'am" and "no sir" to teachers and other authority. Boys pull out chairs for girls and hold doors open, and girls say thank you in return. In an era where chivalry seems relatively dead, we get a lot of compliments on the students for having this basic etiquette. I also really appreciate that it is a cell phone free campus. There are no Chromebooks, and no student is allowed to have a cell phone at any point during the school day no matter what their age or grade. While I initially wondered how my kids would learn to do assignments on a computer if there were non at school, they do learn in upper school. My 9th grader has become proficient in typing and has performed many assignments online, while also being a confident public speaker. Public speaking has huge emphasis at BCA - there are various assignments and opportunities throughout the year in which each and every student presents or recites in front of their peers. Finally, it's a wonderful community of parents. Volunteering is a requirement at the school - each family must volunteer a minimum of 20 hours. That leads to parents being on campus often and getting to know one another. There are also lots of social opportunities for parents - there are moms coffee dates, moms night out, dads nights, a book club, and more. If you want a Christ centered education for your kids, this is it!

Before being placed in the school, the child must go through a battery of tests - the most important is the I.Q. test on which the student must score 135 or above. If you make it through the screening, you must then apply for consideration to be accepted to the school and pay your $75 fee. If there's a spot, you'd better not second guess your commitment to Rainard because there is a non-refundable reservation fee of $800. At the time we checked into the program, there was no high school. We were concerned about what happens to a child coming up in this sheltered environment then going into a larger public or private school for the last few years of basic education. Now they have implemented a high school and those problems are solved for those attending. The small campus is sweet and certainly an alternative style of teaching but of all of the campuses we investigated, this was among the priciest. We'd heard bad things about it from people that had placed their children here then opted to put them back in public school or another nearby private institution. In the end, we decided the risk was too great for us - it was a very difficult decision but since we got so much bad word of mouth, we backed out of the admissions process. But, if you're looking for some out of the ordinary summer programs, Rainard is among the best on the West Side. Their Summer Incitement Series offers a variety of non-traditional learning experiences that are great for any child. A good sampler if you're looking to get your feet wet in this special school for gifted students.

I once loved bringing my son here but prior to his departure things changed. I understand my son…read moreisn't perfect and I could have done better but I knew months ago something wasn't right at this school. My son was 2 years old in a class full of children his age and had been since he started. Once my son switched classes things changed. I was getting phone calls constantly. At times it began to feel like he was the problem. Around June I went to pick him up and he has a large bump on his head. When I asked no one knew how he got it. About a week before I stopped sending him he came home with a scratch on his lip. When I asked what happened I never received an answer and haven't till this day. My son was potty training and would go through underwear a lot. I ended up sending pull ups and letting them know to put him in one if he ran out of underwear or at nap. I really tried to be understanding because his teachers were doing the best they could. One day after my husband picked him up, I noticed my son had on a diaper. He hadn't worn a diaper since he was 18 months. When I inquired about this I never received an answer. At that point I felt like I was being ignored. This place started off good but they have entirely too many toddlers in one class. I would walk in to get my son and see stuff everywhere! My husband even stated he saw a pair of scissors left on a table. It was too overstimulating and in my opinion, not structured. Again, this is in no way to come at his teachers. They did their very best. Front office staff was okay but some of them could have done better in how they spoke to parents and the teachers. Ms. Johnson was probably the best person on that staff and had a beautiful personality and spirit! All in all, there are other good quality daycares/schools in the area. My son is at a new one and thriving! I hope this review is useful and helpful. I came from an honest place and wish things could have ended differently.

She was also super rude to one of the teachers and i just felt like this isn't the type of environment I want my kid in. The teachers there do SO much so this is in no way in reflection of them and i am willing to bet they are underpaid.
