Great spot to watch the games and the wings are amazing. Love the Nashville Hot Sauce!

I just grabbed a burger here for the first time tonight and it was amazing! I ordered a peppercorn…read moreburger, which came with Brie, caramelized onions, garlic sauce and cracked peppercorns and it was one of the better burgers I've had in Ottawa (comparable to Chez Lucien). The fries were also great, as well as the service. Also, lots of screens all around for watching sports, and a fairly friendly atmosphere where it's easy to talk to other sports fans. I'd definitely come here again.

There are a number of drinking joints along this stretch of Wellington. I just had to stop at The…read moreWood though because it bills itself as a wine and sports bar. What? Wine AND sports? No way! It has dark glass, so it is tough to see what is going on in there. But, be brave and give it a shot. Okay, first off - they do sell more than wine. They offer a number of good beers on tap - Harp, Kilkenny....Coor's Light...??? Okay, well most are good. And, they have about 20 bottled brands in the fridge. They also serve liquour and martinis. But, back to the wine. They have a huge menu, divided by countries - Canada, Italy, Australia, etc. And, you can have your wine by the glass or the 1/2 litre if you want to try more than one kind. Sports definitely is a theme - the tv shows all the big games. So, who knew wine and sports could go together so well? Definitely something for everyone at The Wood.

I find it unusual the subtitle of this place is "Sports Bar & Eatery" because sitting in there, I…read morefelt incredibly uncool. The atmosphere is very hip, low-lit, and very thoughtfully decorated. I actually kept noting to my friends how much I loved the interior design of the place. I can see from my fellow Yelpers that this place used to be a little more hokey? Ha! Anyway, we were here on a Friday on what appeared to be a short-staffed night because our waitress seemed irritable. We let her know we were expecting more people but she didn't try that too hard to accommodate us (To be fair, my tardy friends had not made a reservation). Eventually we were able to spread across three booths so it worked out fine, but we were unable to move tables because of the pending karaoke setup. Musical chairs aside, the food was terrible to start with. My bf and I ordered the bruschetta and it was awful, amateur. Salty! Our entrees saved the night: he had pizza and I had wings, and we both enjoyed them. My friends complained about the calamari, noting they were rubbery. Couldn't take any pictures because of the dim lighting of the place. Anyway, based on the ambience of the place, I would return for a drink, but keep it intimate.

The Bar formerly known as Bonkers is now known as Blackpepper. Don't be fooled by the fancy new…read moresign and the coat of paint, this is still definitely Bonkers. Bonkers is a sports bar, emphasis on the bar part. They do serve food, although I haven't eaten anything there since the name change so I don't know what the food is like anymore. This place is a locals bar, but be warned it's locals in the "sketchy folk drinkin" sense than in the family sense. The beer isn't all that cheap and the selection is "meh" while the atmosphere isn't all that great (feels like a small town bar, complete with neon signs advertising Budweiser). The only redeeming quality is that they have Karaoke on friday nights, which is usually good entertainment. The Karaoke tends to attract the student crowd so is usually a lot of fun. Oh and young men beware, there tends to be cougars present.
