Exam room before her Ear Crop
    Nikalet I.

Dr Tan and Mrs Tan came highly recommended! I recently purchased a XL American Bully. After completing her 2nd set of shots I knew it was time to get her fresh fade aka ears cropped. Well known Bay Area dog breeders all recommended St Louis Veterinary. I went on a Friday afternoon, walked in and signed in like everyone else. Waited about 35 minutes and was taken into an exam room with Mrs Tan. She then explained the entire process and let me leave my pup overnight for her ear crop. She pulled out their ear crop binder full of styles and photos of ear crop styles and let me choose the one for my pup. Before paying , Mrs Tan even let me walk my pup into the back kennel area and place her into the kennel, I had to let them know I was impressed by how clean it was! They really keep the kennel area very clean as well as the exam rooms. I kissed my pup and went on to pay. The young women at the front were very nice as well. They even offered to charge my phone for me when I said my battery was low. The lobby area was all good energy. I don't understand some of the negative comments. I think some people are just miserable and hard to please. My experience as a new client was definitely 5 stars

My dog is big and usually doesn't like going to the vet, but he loves Dr. Tan - and that says a lot!!! Dr. Tan is an outstanding veterinarian. He gets straight to the point and doesn't waste time with unnecessary procedures. You can tell Dr. Tan genuinely cares about animals and truly understands them. His approach is practical, efficient, and backed by real experience. It's rare to find a vet who is both so knowledgeable and compassionate. I really hope he doesn't retire anytime soon, good veterinarian like him are hard to find!

Oscar at 16 years old and 4 months

Oscar, my beloved dog, lived to be 16 years and 4 months thanks to this vet and his recommendation of Science Diet. Oscar was the oldest dog I knew. I will always take my animals here, for as long as I live in the Bay Area. His new little sister, Hershey, will have to come here too.

DO NOT TRUST & DO NOT BRING PET!!! SHADY & UNHYGIENIC!!!! My cat of 4 years died last year due to staph infection from unclean tools and shitty surgery. He got a PU surgery for urinary crystals that was done by Dr. Tan, due to emergency vet doing it for 10k, and Dr. tan saying it would be done for 2.5k. He was sent home after a day with disinfectant, and a weeks worth of antibiotics (found this odd but was told he would be okay after a week no further instruction were given), he was okay for 1month then the same issue happened again took him back to the doctor who roughly grabbed him and only looked, no test no nothing, and said that the surgery site was smaller and that it need to be wider. He cut the surgery site with no local anesthesia, only a lady that's not a licensed vet tech holding him down, and only gave me disinfectant again. Did not trust him after that and decided to take my cat to an emergency vet after that shit show and was informed that he had a nasty staph infection in his bladder that crawled from his urethra (surgery site) which was caused by the PU collapsing (which they told me was cause by the structure being done poorly which lead to the infection to occur) and needed testing to see how far it spread, and know what antibiotics would work. He was put on antibiotics (which were $300 for 10), gabapentin (for pain), Prozac ( for anxiety and bladder inflammation), and Prazosin (to relax the bladder). At the end the antibiotics was unable to there job properly which lead to sepsis, and the surgery to reconstruct his urethra was not doable do to the infection not clearing up and he had to be put down. I should have realized this was place would not be safe for my Parker after stepping inside and it not being clean (blood at door entrance leading to a room), smelling bad, and no license vet tech. The other thing is I had to leave him overnight after the botched surgery only to pick him up dehydration, starving, and urinated with the same pee pad I put when dropping him off. Overall spent nearly 10k only to end up putting to rest. IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR PETS DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!!!

For the surgery, Dr. Jones did an incredible job. She successfully removed everything--it was a best-case scenario, especially since it was a delicate surgery on my dog's face. Dr. Macdonald provided her opinions to the team and is extremely knowledgeable about mast cell tumors. She makes sure to let you know about ALL possible outcomes but always aims for the best possible scenario. That said, the communication leading up to it was difficult. Dr. Berkley was initially scheduled to do the surgery due to a scheduling mix up. She provided some conflicting and alarming information not specific to the medical evidence present in my dog's particular case. She backed out suddenly on the day of surgery after seeing my dog. That shook me a bit, and I think the bedside manner and case review before phone calls could be improved. But ultimately, the care itself from Dr. Jones, Dr. Macdonald and Dr.Partin was top-notch. I'd still give them five stars, because the surgical outcome and overall skill were outstanding and I'm grateful for their service every day.

They took great care of our sweet Bailey for the last few years of his life, but the shining star was how they showed up during his decline. Dr. Jones was incredibly attentive, patient, and kind as she walked us through her professional opinion and exhausted all options for our beloved cat. She validated my every fear and concern about deciding when it was time to let him go. When it came time for his last appointment, he was seen by Dr. Caraballo. We had not met her before, but the compassion and warmth she showed us made a world of a difference in a very sad day. The entire Grand Lake team went above and beyond to provide support to not only Bailey, but to his heartbroken moms during the last few days of his life. They even sent us a handwritten card signed by all the doctors who had met him, which was especially thoughtful and touched our hearts. Highly recommend Grand Lake for their high quality care and compassionate veterinary team.

Even though we completed intake over the phone, we were asked to fill out the same information again on paper, and we weren't seen until ~15 minutes after our scheduled time. We also spent a long time waiting due to a lepto test. We were initially told results could take up to 30 minutes and that the assistant would check with Dr. Holliday to see if we could leave and come back. About 20 minutes later, we were told we only needed to wait 10-15 minutes total--by then, we had already waited most of that time unnecessarily. Follow-up was the most frustrating part. The front desk was responsive through the online portal, but not helpful--they repeatedly said they would "leave a note for the doctor" or were "waiting for the doctor to finalize their notes." We later found out test results were available on Tuesday but weren't released to us until Thursday. For an urgent care visit, this delay felt unacceptable. We requested SOAP notes and lab results on Monday for insurance purposes and had to follow up multiple times to get documentation that should have been readily available. The medical care itself seemed thorough, but the administrative side was lacking. Given the cost (urgent care exam alone was $147), I expected a more efficient and timely process. Overall: kind staff, but poor follow-through and delayed communication. For urgent care, I expected a much greater sense of urgency.

They texted me the wrong appointment time and when I got there they told me my appointment was canceled. I was baffled because I confirmed the appointment that morning. They said they made a mistake and were understaffed, so they couldn't see me. I had to reschedule and come back a week later. The only reason why I agreed to even come back was because they offered a discount for new patient exam fee for the both of my dogs AFTER I asked. I came back today to get their ears checked for an infection. They said it would take 30-45mins but called me to pick them up 1 hour and 6mins later. Then they said their microscope BROKE so they couldn't determine if they had a bacterial/yeast infection. I still had to pay for their ear cleanings after this experience ($71 each). They said to come back a week later if their ears still smelled like they had a yeast infection. No, thanks. They also ignored my concerns when I asked about antibiotics for my senior dog's bad breath even though she had a dental procedure a few months ago. They said they would check her mouth in the back, but when I came to pick them up they never followed up. I didn't ask because at this point I was incredibly frustrated with the whole experience. I definitely will not be coming here again and do not care for a response from the clinic. Please check the other low star reviews. They seem to have issues with management, scheduling, admin turnover, and being understaffed. If you are okay with this treatment, then by all means take your pets here. Good luck.

After my dog's cytology results came back, Dr. Lampart called me after the clinic had already closed. In her voicemail, she sounded saddened and asked me to call her back within an hour, but she deliberately gave me no indication of what the results actually were. I immediately called back well within the hour she requested, only to discover the clinic routed all after-hours calls directly to voicemail. I left a message immediately. She never called me back. The next day, after repeatedly calling the clinic trying to get answers, I finally learned the truth: my dog had an extremely aggressive form of cancer. The way this was handled was inexcusable. The voicemail made me think there was still hope. Instead, the results had already been received, and I spent nearly an entire day anxiously waiting while the clinic withheld a diagnosis that turned out to be devastating. If you're going to tell someone to call back within an hour, you should either answer the phone, check your voicemail, or make arrangements for someone else to deliver time-sensitive results. Instead, I was left wondering while my dog had a rapidly progressing disease. After learning the diagnosis, I specifically requested to work with another veterinarian because I no longer felt comfortable communicating with Dr. Lampart. Rather than respecting that request, the clinic spent over a week delaying medications my dog desperately needed. I repeatedly requested prednisone--a medication commonly used to improve comfort and, in cases like my dog's, potentially provide additional weeks or even months of quality life. Instead of acting with urgency, I was repeatedly told they were waiting for approval from the very veterinarian whose handling of this situation had already destroyed my confidence. Every day matters with an aggressive cancer. When I finally expressed my frustration and said their delays were costing my dog precious time, the receptionist immediately became defensive, told me she would not be spoken to that way, and informed me a manager would be calling me. There was no empathy. No acknowledgment of why someone might be emotional after being told their dog is dying. Just defensiveness. This clinic seems to have forgotten what veterinary medicine is supposed to be about. People don't bring in a pet--they bring in a family member. We trust veterinarians not only for their medical expertise but also for their compassion, communication, and professionalism during the hardest moments imaginable. I spent thousands of dollars on diagnostics, treatments, and medications. The least I expected was timely communication, empathy, and prompt medical care when every day counted. Instead, I experienced poor communication, delays in treatment, a lack of urgency, and staff who appeared more concerned with defending themselves than helping a dying animal. I cannot recommend this clinic to anyone who values clear communication, compassion, or timely care. Losing a beloved pet is heartbreaking enough. No family should have to fight the very people they're paying to help them while their companion's time is slipping away.
