I had to take our dog Lily to the vet because she sustained a pretty serious facial injury. Thankfully, the vet was able to fit us in immediately. When I arrived, I was told the former vet, Dr. B had retired and sold the practice. I was a little saddened by that news, however, the new receptionist was very sweet and I could tell she was an animal lover... Her demeanor with our dog made us feel very comfortable. The two new owners of the veterinary clinic (Dr. J Virk DVM and Dr. K Dosanjh) were both very pleasant and professional. After examining Lily, initially, the estimate we were given was higher than we had expected, but they worked with us and were very accommodating. I ended up leaving my dog there to get treated. When we picked her up a few hours later, we saw she needed quite a lot of stitches. The damage she had sustained was more than we could see on the surface. The loving thing was that the vets did more treatment on her then we had paid for. I believe they did it because they seem to have a genuine love for animals. Going to the vet is very pricey, but I don't think their practice is all about the money... So I will continue to bring my animals to them. They brought the credit card machine into my exam room. I paid the bill only to get my dog returned to me. Another horrific experience for my dog and myself. I brought my animal in just to get her nails trimmed and was quoted over the phone $40. I show up and the technicians leave me in an exam room with my dog. I don't know what's taking so long. They said the doctors not here yet and I reminded them that nails does not need an actual veterinarian. They stated that he just likes to double check and I thought OK weird but OK. The next thing I know the doctor comes in any hand jacks something into my dog and comes in with two prescriptions stating she needed to take these for the next seven days and I had no idea what this was even about. I told them that I had no idea why they were doing all of this, and they brought in a portable credit card payment thing and told me that it cost $250 dollars. I told them that I was quoted $40 and I don't understand why all this is happening. The doctor said he would remove the office visit, but then I could never bring my dog back again again. All of this is taking place in the exam room. I was never given a quote. I never signed anything and now I am being threatened about not being able to bring my dog back just for nail grind. During this portion with the doctor, they have my dog in the back. They had taken her back there for the grind, although I don't know why they injected her in front of me. So I ran my credit card $250 so I could get my dog back. I telephoned my regular veterinarian that during Covid lockdown they had a doctor one day a week and they were so so shortstaffed that I reached out to this horrific place. The office manager asked me if I had signed anything and I said no. I called my credit card company and dispute the charge and the $250 was taken off of my card. What I think actually happened... This was only supposed to be a nail grind and post Covid. Petsmart was not doing that anymore. I really was quoted $40 for this place by the staff. But I do remember a few years back she had a hotspot on her tail and they did give her a penicillin injection and sent me home with antibiotics. But that was years earlier. So what I think really happened was the doctor showed up And looked at the previous visit chart and then just came into the room and injected my dog. When I kept saying to him, but I called and I asked the cost and it was only $40. He never confessed his mistake and double down. Because of the injection I took the medication home because whatever he had done, I had to follow through with the medication. None of it made sense. I will never ever ever go there again that Dr doesn't even know what I came in for and he obviously screwed up but then double down How dare he He had said that she needed to come back in a couple of weeks after the medication was complete and I asked him directly. Is this gonna cost me? Also, I mean all of this for a nail grind? He said her return visit was gonna be no charge. Well, guess what that whole day ended up being no charge and I would never have put up with that for a free nail grinding. I would've gladly paid the $40 But my credit card company refunded the entire amount. Total negligence! And when I went back to my car. I was now parked next to a brand new Tesla. Remember, I was there before actually the staff and definitely before the doctor. I called in on Tuesday, gave my info, got an appointment for Saturday 2:15 pm , Location San Leandro. It wasn't an emergency but my cat has something on his skin that I want to get checked in. I have a very nervous cat that isn't use to car rides or being on the carrier at all, after a big battle we put in on the carrier, came to the location, and IT WAS CLOSED my cat cried, got car sick and all of this for nothing because when I called their phone line, they said they were in a different location - an Hour drive from San Leandro and they have left this location at noon. Why would they gave me an appointment if they wouldn't be there? I was upset, my cat didn't got checked and instead hide away the rest of the day for something completely unnecessary and now it's going to be another week without getting him checked because now I need to find another vet that is reliable and can squeeze me in their schedule asap. I dislike writing negative reviews and have barely written any in the 16 years I've used Yelp. Each time, I communicate with the business first to address concerns, and I tried doing so with Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic multiple times via telephone calls, emails, and text message. I adopted a kitten and brought him to this clinic for a checkup. Veterinarian Dr. Jesmeet Kalra examined him and verbally said the kitten has no issues with his heart, lungs, eyes, ears, and other parts of his body, which was wonderful to hear. I asked for full vet notes so I can submit them to the pet insurance plan I had started, to which the doctor stated that Blue Cross does not write vet notes and simply remember each pet's issue. I found that difficult to believe when a clinic has thousands of patients; furthermore, with a clinic that has more than one doctor, not having vet notes written down means that any past issues regarding a pet wouldn't be communicated between the doctors if I bring in the pet in the future. After stating that the vet notes are needed for the pet insurance plan I had stated, the vet agreed to write them and send them to me via email. I stressed the importance of clearly noting that my kitten does not have issues, as pet insurance companies need clear details to establish a baseline and for potential future payouts. Days pass, and I didn't get the notes, so I called the clinic, and the receptionist stated she will follow up with the vet. I confirmed the email address and it was accurate, so I continued to wait. More days pass and I called again, and instead of a receptionist, I reached Dr. Kalra himself. He apologized for the delay and stated he has been busy, but he will send me the notes within 2 days. He gave me his personal cell phone number and asked that I text him to remind him. I again did not receive the notes days later, so I called again and talked to Dr. Kalra again, who again apologized. I confirmed the email address with him, and found out that he has the wrong email - not that it mattered because he hadn't written the vet notes yet. This went on multiple times, and each time, I stated that I need the notes soon, because I need to submit them to the pet insurance company within 30 days of me starting and paying for the insurance. I basically pleaded for the detailed vet notes and stressed that the kitten's pet insurance plan would soon be closed if I don't get the vet notes in, and he assured me by saying he "wouldn't let it happen." He then said he "takes full responsibility" for the delay in getting the notes to me and it is his fault. He sounds great on the phone, but nothing fully comes of his promises. When I finally got the notes, they were way too simple to be used for the pet insurance plan, as he simply wrote, "physical exam within normal limits and NSF." I had told him multiple times I needed something along the lines of "physical exam within normal limits for heart, ears, teeth, lungs, eyes, skin, abdomen, and joints," as he had verbally stated to me during the first visit and as required by the pet insurance company. It is now past 30 days, so the $334.30 pet insurance plan I had paid has now been canceled and I lost that amount of money; I cannot get pet insurance for this kitten through that company anymore; and the $338 I paid to Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic for the checkup and notes were completely wasted. This is a total loss of $672.30 because of a vet who kept promising that he'd send me vet notes, but ultimately did not. I had found Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic on Yelp, where it currently has a 4-star rating. After taking a closer look, it seems like the vast majority of positive reviews were in the past when a vet named Dr. Boado was present; it seems like since Dr. Boado retired, this clinic has gone downhill quite significantly. read more

I LOVE Dr B and Maris!! My family has been taking our four legged members to Dr B since the mid 1970's!! Yup our records are on file index cards and paper, WAY before computers. I can't say enough good things about this caring duo! Dr B and Maris always greet us by name and with a smile. They ask about the family, my Grandparents, and talk about the "good old days" when I would come in as a child with the dogs and cats from my youth. So when it was time to take my own little fur baby to a Vet, there was only 1 place for me to go. My poor little Pepper started out as a stray feral who had a really bad eye infection, and the Dr was honest from the start. He let me know that he would try to help the kitten, but that the infection may be too bad. Fast forward a few days and sure enough the eye couldn't be saved, but the kitten's life was. Now I have a happy, healthy and totally rambunctious kitten that is fast approaching 1 year old. I am so grateful for the Drs help, but mostly for his honesty and integrity. After 3 generations and countless pets, this is the only Vet that I will ever take my pets to! I had been seeing Dr. Boado since 2010 to until he retired for all my kitties. He was a no nonsense vet and I appreciated it along with not having to wait a long time for and during the appointments. I will miss him and his sweet assistant Maris. For Dr. Boado I give 5 stars. After he retired, and I tried to see the new vet for an emergency, the doors and gate were closed. I go by once in a while for the next few months and it's always closed despite the hours being posted as open at 10am. I tried calling and no one would answer nor was there an answering machine. What the heck?! I'm not sure if there are any vets actually, consistantly working there. I say this because after reading a few reviews (after Dr. Boado's retirement) and doing a little research I'm not so sure. One reviewer listed the names of the vets currently working there so I looked them up on California's Department of Consumer Affairs website along with checking if there's a current license. What I found conviced me to not go here nor trust these vets with my pets. The business license for Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic, expired May 31, 2020. I am not sure if the business name changed under the new vets, but just know as of today (November 18, 2020) for "Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic" the license has expired. The vets, if the names are correct from another reviewer, have both had lawsuits filed against them. Both were put on probation, with one of them the probation ended around June 2020. (I looked up Dr. Boado, and he did not have any lawsuits in his records.) After reading about them I don't think I'll be taking my pets to them. Now I'm on a search for a new vet. read more

Although the veterinarian and staff are bery friendly, their professionalism is lacking. 1. You have to wait days for a reply when trying to make an appointment or order meda for your pet that are only available from a veterinarian. 2. They tell you to show up at a specific appointment time and will have you waiting almost another hour 3. My grandmother, who referred me to this veterinarian, has been waiting months for lab work that she paid for, for her dog and still hasn't received a phone call, etc. She is an older dog with ailments and having to wait for something you paid a lot of money for is just ridiculous. My cat had been vomiting for three days and hadn't eaten anything, so I rushed him to a nearby clinic. Since I had to wait more than five hours to see an emergency Vet clinic, so I called Blue Cross to find out how long the wait would be and he told me I could bring it in immediately. So I brought my cat in for a check-up. When I arrived at the door, this clinic made me feel very risqué. The building at the entrance and the very worn-out doorbell made me think that this clinic was not a good one, but with my cat being sick I didn't care that much. When I arrived I was the only guest so I was told to fill out the information /form since I was a new guest. I waited for about 20 minutes and the doctor came in. He asked me what was wrong with my cat, and I explained the process in detail because I thought my cat was having a hairball issue, so he didn't have an appetite and started vomiting. But after the doctor examined my cat, he said it was probably a hairball issue, then he immediately asked for a blood test and a urine test for my cat. When he tested my cat for checking he has a fever or not, I saw that the temperature next to my cat was not sterilized, and he still tested my cat directly. The conclusion he gave was to give my cat antibiotics and an anti-nausea shot. But I didn't understand why he gave the antibiotics at that time, because the results of the blood test didn't come out, so I couldn't conclude any results before giving the drug to my cat, which I thought this doctor without medical rules. Also, after I brought my cat home, his antiemetic injection did not work, which is hard to believe. Just a few tests, the total cost was over $700.With the ugliness of human nature, the money-hungry doctor, and his inability to understand how to treat pets, I beg you to close this vet clinic!! At the same time, the cat was taken for a blood test and a urine test. I could clearly hear my cat's miserable screams, although I understand that cats and humans are different. I can only hear the sound, but you said to me: cats do not like this, that's why he made a miserable scream. Definitely our new veterinarian... the Dr at the after hours vet did a very rushed and non thorough exam and immediately recommended an expensive hospitalization... the Dr at Blue Cross did a thorough exam and started the two sickest cats on antibiotics and ordered blood work for all three. I would not hesitate to use the Vet for any of my animals! I have a cocker spaniel and she had a cherry eye. I took her to a different vet and got an expensive quote they kept adding additional options I didn't request like teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, chest x-rays and other items. I went back on yelp and searched for a different vet and found Dr B at Blue Cross. I got an appointment for a Monday, they scheduled her surgery for the next day 9am and she was out by 3pm. This place has changed since Dr. Boado retired. Do NOT take your pets here. The new vet didn't even do a physical exam on my dog when we asked about his hip dysplasia. He ran blood work and up charged us by more than $75 that was quoted over the phone. That blood test was on July 2nd. Now it it almost July 10th and nobody has called us about the results. Better yet, we can't even get through to the numbers that they provided online or on the receipt. I will demand my money back and never return here again. Got referred to this veterinary clinic by a friend who's been going here for years. Tried calling 30 minutes prior to them closing because I finally got off work. Got a voicemail that basically says you can't leave a voicemail. I continued calling while I drove there to try and beat their closing time of apparently 5pm. I called about 30 times in a row and was hung up on about 10 of those times so, I knew someone was working. Walk up to the door that says closing time is 5:30 and it's 4:55 - doors locked. She had the audacity to say I must have been calling the wrong number - i told her no, I even got the message that says they close at 5 and includes their address, etc. She then said she didn't work there... ???? Why is someone who doesn't work there the only person there to close up and not answer calls but rather hang up on you? Anyway - this places is a joke, wasted my time and will NOT be taking my pets here, EVER!! My wife and I have taken 3 dogs to this clinic and we've always been very happy with the care provided. A perfect example was a few weeks ago when our youngest puppy, Pablo had a paw that was very swollen and looked infected. Not wanting to take any chances we rushed him to a emergency vet. They diagnosed him as having fox tail stuck in his paw and would charge between $600-800 to remove it!! I told them thanks but no thanks, we would just have it done at our regular Vet. The next day I took Pablo to Blue Cross and they were able to do the procedure for $250, with the same great service they always provide. Their hours may not be great(closed on weekends) but I'm able to overlook that because of how affordable they are compared to other Vets, yet still give great care. read more

I came here because of all the positive reviews about fair pricing only to leave feeling pissed but ripped off. Today: 12/5/2013 I took my 9 year old dog here because of some tumors on her abdomen. I get there early and filled out new patient paperwork, even the paperwork was sketch. (It asked nothing about the pets, shouldn't they want to know who their patients are?) I was seen right away. The Vet proceeded to weigh my dog and take her temperature. He then looks at her abdomen and tells me she has tumors and the only way to fix this is to have surgery. (YES that is why i took her here). In less than 5 minutes he tells me that he will give me some phone numbers to some places that specialize in surgeries. So far: 1. NO EXAM 2. NO BLOOD WORK done. I go to the front for the referral numbers and was asked to pay $50 for the exam. This was when I started getting upset. I was asked to pay $50 to know how much my dog weighs and what her temperature was. So of course I asked to speak with the Vet. He comes out very defensive saying that i am paying for the office visit because of his time. He spent a total of less than 10 minutes telling me what I already knew. Honestly, I would not be writing this if my dog got the proper exam I was charged. This vet does not care about the well being of your pet, all they care about is when they will collect their money. Things wrong with this place: 1. During the so called exam, the Vet did not look a my dog's teeth. Isn't dental care a part of a pet's overall well being? 2. He did not check her ears to see if there might be infection. 3. He didn't look at her pupils to see for any eye related issues. 4. He didn't check for any abnormal glands around my dog's neck. Aren't the above pretty basic stuff to do during an exam? So in conclusion, yes, if you would like to pay money to be told what you already knew and be ripped off, this is the place for you. I can not recommend this place to anyone, especially those trying to save money because they will take your money leaving you with less than what you started with.That money could've gone to the care that your dog really needs. So far, I've only been here once, after finally deciding on this place. Don't expect a fancy looking place or a swanky front. The doc is good so far. He doesn't have that sales pressure team before seeing him. He was really nice to my pet and yeah, he does talk to them like they are little kiddies. Quite cute. The only thing was that he was quite fast, didn't ask too many questions. I was there for booster shots. I left her there since she had to stay for the operation but when I picked her up, the doc cleaned her teeth again for free while she was still under. The building does looks unwelcoming and needs a new facelip, but the service is totally the opposite. Really happy that we came out of there very satisfied with our 3 yo pug weighed at 23 lbs. He's a good size with bronchitis. Bill came out to be $115 for the visit, anti-biotic injection and pills to last him for two weeks. When I first acquired an abandoned dog nearly 8 years ago, I took my new best furry friend to Dr. Boada. He had been recommended to me by family and friends. Dr. Boada and his wonderful receptionist have been pleasant, warm and friendly to us since our first visit. Even though we only need to visit his office a few times a year, they still remember every detail about us and our travels. In today's busy world it's really nice to know there are businesses out there who really do care about their patients and customers. The best part is that's it is really REAL and GENUINE caring. I agree with Paula B. from Hayward. I went here because of all the high praise from other Yelp reviewers. Sadly, I felt very rushed and he really didn't answers any of my questions. He told me to ask the receptionist about 2 of my questions. Maybe it was because the visit was complimentary (free initial exam when adopted a pet from Alameda County shelter) that he didn't spend anytime. All I know was I was out of there in 10 minutes. He was a nice enough vet, but I needed a little more time to go over some things. After all I just adopted this animal and could have used some advice. read more

This place is THE Best!!! Service was amazing and he was able to diagnose what was wrong with my dog within minutes. It was my first time there but I was made to feel like he knew me for years. After being nickel and dimes by our usual vet in San Ramon... I was blown away when he let us walk with no charge. They only charged us for the medicated shampoo that my dog needed. I had been taking my dogs to the Oakland SPCA vet clinic for the past 2 years, I loved supporting the SPCA but I always felt rushed through my appointments and didn't feel like my concerns were being taken seriously. I realized it was time to go to a different clinic as my dogs aged. 1. When I started looking it was the Yelp reviews that got me interested in Blue Cross Vet Clinic, but when I asked friends what vet they thought was the best in and around San Leandro, several close friends and family mentioned Blue Cross which is a plus. 2. The building isn't much to look at and the office looks a bit dated, but don't judge a book by it's cover. 3. Dr. Boado is an older gentleman with YEARS of experience and it showed. He checked both of my dogs thoroughly, including with his hands to feel for any lumps and bumps. My issue with the cloudiness of one of my dogs eyes was finally addressed and Dr. Boado referred me to an animal opthamologist (who even knew they existed?!). Turns out if I had known about this issue earlier I could have prevented it from getting worse. I've never felt rushed and if he doesn't know the answer he gives you his thoughts on what could be wrong and refers you to a specialist. Each time I've gone the waiting room has been empty, my dogs are much more relaxed, and it makes going to the vet a pleasurable experience. I'd definitely recommend Dr. Boado and Blue Cross Vet to anyone! read more

I was in urgent search for a new vet since I didn't like the last two that I had seen and my dog recently developed a limp so I needed to have him seen fast. The reviews on Yelp are what made me choose this place and I am VERY happy with the service I received. True the building isn't fancy but who cares. At least we know it's not driving up the cost of our vet bill. With the visit, injections, plus take home medication I received, I thought I was going to have a heafty bill but it was only $100. Both the Vet and Receptionist very nice. I will definately be coming back should the need arise. read more

We always took our pets to Dr. Boado and then one of our Aussies got cancer and passed away...my husband wanted to change vets because Blue Cross reminded him of our loss.... We changed vets, but I really wish we would have stayed with Blue Cross...as in all of the reviews, Dr. Boado is very caring, staff (Marissa) was always super friendly and he does a wonderful job with "talking and calming" all the pets.... I highly recommend Blue Cross to all my friehds and acquaintances and hope they read all of the reviews on Yelp if they have concerns... read more
