This review is for their xray department, their wound care center & registration. St Mary's was one of the few hospitals in NJ that recently guven a grade an A! Congratulations and they deserve it. Everyone I dealt during my appointment today was pleasant, helpful, and efficient. From the security guard to Xiema the xray tech, to Jasmine in wound care reception, to my Brazilian RN & my doctor. I feel confident that their care and services will help speed up my recovery. No one wants to go to a hospital but you need to take care of yourself because good health is a priceless gift too many people take for granted. Whoa. You usually only see so many negative reviews/comments for fast food joints, right? I'm partial to Hackensack Hospital but my cardiologist (yeah, I have one of those now!) keeps sending me here for various tests every few months. This part of town is overdeveloped and congested. The hospital looks decent (enough) if a bit dated and a touch beaten up. (St. Mary's is totally reminding me of West Hudson Hospital that was a few blocks from where I grew up and would've probably had the same Yelp rating if it were still around.) But I had a (mostly) good/positive experience each time for each test... although they're like every other medical-related biz that they seem to overbook and you have to wait and waste your own time. (For both visits their parking lot was open/free - which was a nice little bonus.) Everyone I encountered - from the security guard stationed outside to the various staff inside at every department on every floor - were genuinely nice and helpful. (Both visits I would get lost while strolling the halls to find specific departments and it's a bit jarring how it can go from bright and cheery [Subway sandwich shop, the pharmacy, a church/chapel] and then a wrong turn and now it's dark, abandoned and you feel like you stumbled into a scene from Halloween II.) read more

I was at the ICU at Saint Mary's and the staff was shockingly unprofessional. Nurses were dismissive, rolling their eyes & getting rude when we asked questions about my loved one's care. One staff member even raised their voice when we expressed concerns. EsTheir lack of compassion made an already difficult situation worse. If you have a choice, I'd recommend avoiding this hospital. They need serious training in patient and family communication. If you want to go beyond a review, you could also file a formal complaint with the hospital's patient relations department. My mother was admitted to the third floor and everyone has been pretty pleasant, however the head nurse Susan lacks empathy and maybe should retire. It seems she had a problem with us being there, even though we were quiet and complied with wearing the appropriate attire. if I can give a zero to this hospital I would. I went on Friday night and the people that was working there were so disrespectful and rude to the person I was with and myself. The person I was with is very sick he couldn't hold a pen and they treated him like an immigrant (no disrespec). The person doing the registration even said I can't wait until Trump starts back up and take all these immigrants out of here. We are not immigrants (no disrespect) and we felt discriminated and disrespected. the staff at the emergency from desk is very very very very unprofessional, it looks like a grocery store, the fronk desk lady would go have attitude, treat patients like they not having a situation , the valet parking sitting there with the lady in the front desk eating like he is in the movies, please have people that want to work and have compassion for others as the receptionist. On 2/20/23 I suffered a fall as I was walking up a staircase that had 8 steps and a landing and then 8 more steps and a landing. I was running late for a meeting that started at 7:00 PM and I was 5 minutes late, so I was rushing. In addition to rushing to make the meeting on time, I must have missed the last step from the top and fell, actually tucked and rolled on my left side, hit my head and tried to stop myself with my left hand. Well, I landed right on the landing, (I guess that's why they call it that) and immediately felt EXTREME pain in my hand. After getting back up, opening the door to the establishment, the look on the faces were shocking to say the least and I was bleeding. I cleaned myself up and continued on with the meeting. On 2/21, I was attempting to make it through the work day and I could not. I work in Paterson, so the only logical choice was to go to St. Mary's. I was born in this hospital 48 years ago, and although I don't recall what it looked like at the time, I walked into the ER, was pleasantly greeted by a safe and clean environment with caring staff. From Juanni at the front desk, to Lourdes at Registration to Amy, Triage Nurse the Radiologist ( forgot his name, but he has a long ponytail and a chill vibe), to Amee the ER Nurse who explained everything in detail on my hand fracture, they all should get 10 Gold Stars! There was even a Team Member from I believe the Administration Department who made sure that I was seen and treated accordingly. I now have to go see a hand specialist and I will continue to heal as best as I can. If it were not for the care, dedication, willingness and knowledgeable staff at St. Mary's I would still be in pain, trying to figure out why my hand was so swollen. I am grateful for the talented, educated staff who has dedicated their lives to save guys like me!!! I was at the emergency room, there was no parking, so I had to park in the street. a man was leaving and i started to go get my car and park in the space as im driving up to park in the space I noticed that one of the security guard was parking his car in the emergency room parking space, which shouldn't happen because the emergency room parking is intended for patients not employees. My husband has been hospitalized at St Mary's in Passaic He had a very bad experience at The New Valley Hospital in Paramus We will never go back there At St Mary's all of his doctor's as well as nurses have been very attentive and professional and concur with one another to find the best solution for the patient When he was scheduled for a nuclear medicine cardiac stress test with contrast, the technician Tim, could not of been nicer or more attentive to make a stressful situation better. He has a way of putting a person at ease with his finesse at speaking with patients and reassuring them that he is there for them with whatever need arises He made a sick man feel he could handle this procedure and felt comforted When you are very ill, you never know how you will react I know you can't be a coward growing old , but Tim was a very reassuring presence in the hospital in the nuclear medicine department Thank you for your caring and professionalism. read more

if you need real help, DONT go here. First off the front desk is rude. You get started off with "why're you here?" then when people come in after you they will send them back before you. It doesn't matter how much pain you're in if they're older they'll be going first. Then after treatment even if you're not able to drive yourself they will kick you off. He was in a private room with plenty of room. There is a shared bathroom with the next room. My dad was able to go home a day or so early due to the great care he received there. The visitors desk staff was very friendly. The gift shop did not have newspapers but they did have a ton of other items. I picked out an items and the friendly staff suggested other cool items I missed. Turned out I liked her item better. Glad she was friendly. There is metered parking I believe but I'm always able to snag a street space during my visits. read more

My father fell on may 1st. Went to this hospital. On arrival he was arrogant and hard to deal with. So as his time went on at 7 days they finally decided to operate on his brain for a procedure according to them. At this time attending dr asks me and my mother to sign a dnr dni so at my fathers age we said yes(92yo) so they told us Monday they would operate at this point so he was scheduled for 2 pm so they changed it for 12 last minute. To make long story short they resuscitated him and he never woke up again and died on the 13th. Don't go to this hospital! My dad didn't have to die read more

I went into the Emergency Room last night. I'll start off by saying the reception staff were polite and efficient. The space was generally clean and free of odors. In general I would say they were functioning expediently. Those are not the problems. I had an issue that was urgent, I won't go into the details and spare your minds the gross nature of such things. I was quickly processed and sent into a room to be seen. The reception nurse expected I would have some tests done to get a solid diagnosis. The nurse that saw me in the room also wanted to get some tests done because she thought similarly to me in terms of the cause of my "infection" that's the most I'll say about the issue. I waited in the room for a long period of time, seemingly forgotten. Another nurse walked in and asked if I had been seen. I told him only by another nurse and was waiting for blood to be drawn and a tissue culture to be done. He went to find the doctor that was supposed to see me. 30 minutes later the doctor showed up. He looked at me for the sum total of 7 seconds. I couldn't make out what he said half the time, he had an extremely thick accent. He mumbled something very quickly about what he believed my issue was. As I was asking him a question, he left with a grimace on his face. I, if I speculate, think he didn't think my issue was urgent and was irritated he had to come and see me...He made a snap judgment and walked out of the room. I waited. and waited...and waited. I'm in a robe, open to the back for all to bask in the glow of mine own moonlight... Yet, I'm in a room and the door was closed. So I took a peak outside...mind you I'm in a ton of pain, I've been given no meds, no antibiotics, blood has yet to be drawn, no tissue culture taken...no tests taken. Short of basic vitals like blood pressure at reception. I can wait, I have my phone and the internet. I can relax and wait, that's no big deal. I decided to leave the door open. So that they can remember that someone is in this room. Eventually, that nurse, the one who originally stumbled into my room asking if I'd been seen walked by and halted and came back in wondering if I still hadn't been seen. I'd been in here two hours now. I regaled him with the wonder and magnificence of the doctor they had who can apparently diagnose "perfectly" in under 7 seconds. He said he'd go find him and come back. He brings me some paperwork after another 30 minutes go by. I ended up getting no bloodwork, no testing, no cultures to determine the severity of the infection. I reminded him, as I did the previous nurse, I had Cancer and these tests need to be done. They basically just sent me on my way with a simple topical solution which I had to wait to get in the morning. I got no medication, no treatment. I was barely seen. Before I went to the emergency room I had a telepresence doctor's visit with an urgent care provider and that doctor did not dare speculate about what he was looking at. His immediate words were: "You need to get tissue cultures and you need to go to Emergency right now. Don't wait. Go now." Before leaving the hospital I asked the nurse who brought me all the paperwork, "How did you guys make this determination. What you are saying this is does not look like what is presenting? I like data, I need more info. You guys are treating this like a rash but I have open wounds that are bleeding and expanding." I like information and test results and there is no reasonable way to make such determinations unless a doctor is so good he just looks at people and spits out diagnoses like he has Tourette's and runs off to the next patient, likely to do the same. It felt completely incompetent, it felt imprecise, and rushed. The hospital was seemingly empty and no where near capacity. I doubt I will ever come back to this facility. There is no due diligence and a devil may care attitude toward diagnoses. I am going to get a second opinion at another urgent care facility once done, I'll take that info and likely file a formal complaint. This is not how emergency medicine should be practiced. I'd avoid this place. While medical care has to generally be given with a certain level of dispassionate focus and expediency; thorough medical care, appropriate testing, eliminating speculation and human error, should and must be done. If I were the administrator of this hospital, I'd start pulling reports and pinpointing where there are specific diagnoses given without any tests to back up such findings. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a number of malpractice lawsuits against them for simply not doing their due diligence. Very frustrating. read more

Left the ER tonight actually dumbfounded. The one and only ER doc was the absolute worst. First me and my 6 yr old daughter are held in basically a storage room. Nurse comes in. Introduced herself and said doc will be in soon. Random guy walks in says what's wrong...not a hello im dr.. I had to ask if he was the doctor. He seemed annoyed and said yeah... It was around 1130. My daughter cried herself to sleep from the ear pain she was having. He was annoyed she was sleeping. I explained her complaints and he was like fine ill check her ear. Leaves the room and comes back and attempts to look on her ear. But mind you my daughter is still half asleep. She keeps moving. He tells me so nasty. You have to pick her up and hold her down (very nasty!) So I do it. He goes well there isn't anything wrong. I said so she is just crying from pain for no reason? He says well she has fluid and her glands are swollen but nothing that needs an antibiotic. So is that it? I said no its just her ear... He goes then u can go.... I said what about the fluid... You can go no anti biotic and he leaves the room.... Uhmmmmm.......ok... No discharge papers... No advice on the fluid in the ears. Just dismissed so rudely. Absolute worst experience from a doctor I have experienced. Zero bedside manner. Seemed annoyed and bothered by doing his job. read more

The Administration is predatory and negligent. I've been trying to contact the billing department for three months but to no avail. My insurance company and I have been trying to to get clarity on how the expenses were incurred, but they don't respond to inquiries on the phone and evade taking responsibility. I've been trying to get an email address from them for three months so that I can send official inquiries, but they've failed to provide us with that email address. This place is literally trash. The employees are a bunch of bumbling fools who make the Three Stooges seem like Dr. House. Where to start? They dropped a dirty needle on the floor next to us from the old lady next to us and didn't pick it up. I will put up both pictures. And this is the ER. I can imagine how the general hospital is. We were supposed to be seen by a doctor but it seems that there are none around. Instead we were seen by an RN. Everything took forever even though the waiting room was empty I mean zero people. The employees love talking nonsense loudly so everyone can hear their conversations about their weekend. Let me say this, you have a better chance of being treated by the big Jesus in the waiting room than by these people. If I were dying, I would rather check youtube than go here. Nurses and Doctors are all great in this Hospital. Everyone seems to be nice and know what he/she is doing. But theres this one guy at the reception with the security guy who has the camera in front of him, this guy looks high or maybe just lack of sleep. But this isnt the first time since we are regular here and the primary Physician/Doctor of my Dad is in this hospital. Yo! The guy at the reception is so funny that no one that he talks to understands him. Everyone as in everyone that he talks to had to ask him twice or 3x about what he just said. It might be the mask or what.. but his eyes looks Like need some rest. The guy might not have enough sleep... Let me start off with this, The hospital is run by incompetent foreigners. The emergency room has a horrible receptionist and once I was in the back, most of the ER staff were on their phones. The floors were gross and I had people talking to me that could barely speak English. I saw the ER doc for 2 seconds who did not even introduce himself. He pushed on my side once and that was the last I saw of him. I was taken for tests and admitted...the nurse told me I was being brought up for uterine torsion. THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN PREGNANT WOMEN AND IM NOT PREGNANT. By the time I got upstairs it was 2am and I came into the ER at 7pm. I had a snippy nurse on floor 4 (I want to say her name was Renee) who told me they didn't see anything in my tests. At 4am a random doctor came in and told me there was no blood flow to my left ovary and that I may need surgery to remove it! I also have asthma and they gave me the hardest time for needing my inhaler which they wouldn't let me take the one from home. I had to fight with them to give me a breathing treatment! I got more tests done FINALLY at 1pm only for them to tell me they can't find anything wrong but they couldn't see the left ovary that well. So I'm still in pain on the left side of my pelvis but they are sending me home?! They don't give discharge papers!!! NO ANSWERS, I wouldn't bring myself or anyone back here if my life depended on it! read more

this hospital should be shut down for corruption & malpractice. dr mintah performed a hystercopy & dnc on me. during the procedure she poked a hole in my utertus which caused immediate bleeding. so she abortedf out of the procedure. which caused me another 6 week delay in getting another doctor to review the cancer determination while the hole healed. they cjharged my insurance for a biopsy that i never received the results. dr mintah claimed my uterus strip was 6mm & my fox chase doctor found it to be only 1mm which meant this procedure was unnecesaary. now st mary's is trying to bill me for my co-pay, when i received nothing for the procedure in terms of results. what a scam operation they are hosting. other family members have received shotty medical advice & care from this hospital!! stay away if you want real medical care!! read more

My grandfather was schedule for a stress test at 7 AM. S stress test was done around 8 AM. From 8 to 4 PM he was there waiting for someone to transport him back to his room. This a horrible/ the whe worst experience evertT ThWoe Could Not reach anyone to give me an update on my dad's status. He went in for a UTI and ended up with pneumonia two days later, how is that even possible? Mind you they took a COVID test and he was negative. ⁃ He was having a hard time breathing because his chest was congested ⁃ after the second day they transferred him down to ICU. ⁃ And then had a tube down his nose to feed him even though he had been eating the day before. ⁃ I requested them to take the tube out and he ate still having trouble breathing the next day he was transferred to PCU and the same day they transferred him back to the fifth floor without having the monitoring machine hooked up to him. How do you monitor patients with the symptoms? ⁃ Every time they gave him nebulizer it would make him act weird but I could not pinpoint what it was ⁃ The nurses were not helpful at ⁃ all. Never saw the aids come in to turn him or to give him water! ⁃ Had to chase after the doctors and they had an attitude. I had everything set up to transfer him to Hackensack hospital and that's when he went into cardiac arrest, as he was turning blue, I ran out to look for the nurse and he was on break by the time they got to him, I knew that was the END! It is so sad and heartbreaking and yet if I had to bet my life he probably caught Covid during the time that he was there. I will never forgive those people for what they did which was basically nothing. If you love your family members DO NOT take them to this hospital ever!!!! read more

I had a colonoscopy yesterday morning at St. Mary's hospital in Passaic. Before I even got there ... my experience with the staff of St. Mary's exceeded my expectations. I called the transportation dept to inform them that I would not need transportation as my daughter was going to drive me. I left a message at their voicemail and promptly received a call back. The genteman was mannerly and accommodating. From begining to to my arrival, the staff made my unpleasant procedure most pleasant. Ariele, not sure of the spelling, took my temperature-gave me a mask (through my anxiousness I forgot mine) and kindly showed me where to procedure. Another gentleman walked me there. At registration I received an anxious call from my daughter who had dropped me off that I still had the car key in my possession and she could not drive!! I raced outside and could not find her... a passing car ( another staff member whose name I do not have) let me get into her car so I could look for my daughter!!!! How nice in this day and age for a stranger to allow you into their car and help locate a white SUV! Registration was a pleasure - the hospital was immaculate and I had a great Polish nurse whose pleasant demeanor relaxed me greatly. This nurse was actullay working while on her holiday time off. Beartha....for the life of me I cannot remember the correct spelling of her name (it was Polsih for sure) was nothing but brilliant and what a great disposition she had. I can see that all the nurses work together and I witness such great team work. Monica, Agnes,,,nurses helping with my procedure and Dr. Huskowski were great. Everyone was great.......... I highly recommed the endoscopy department at St. Mary's...... oh, I nearly forgot - Thank you for anesthesiologist who held my hand while Monica inserted the IV needle - I did squeech really hard - sorry! Nurses have an attitude and the doctor whose name I think was Dr. Preeti Bhatti doesn't help you with your pain, it took less than a minute for her to check me; I felt like I was rushed, tells you that u are fine when you have lots of pain. My grandmother was admitted to St Mary's and I was appalled by the completely inadequate care she received over her stay. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself under the care of this hospital, be sure to advocate for yourself CONSTANTLY. Doctors and nurses are not at all thorough and miss obvious ailments. Medication is dispensed without any care for how it might impact future procedures: for example, a nurse was observed to give heart medication that she shouldn't have, which required a heart procedure later in the day to be canceled because the patient asked if there would be an interaction. You will be discharged before you should be. You will become frustrated by the lack of urgency in receiving care. Hopefully you are not busy at the exact moment the physical therapist finally comes to assess you, because if you are, they will not return. Nurses spend majority of their time sitting behind a computer. Security is nonexistent; you will not be asked to show identification, your name will not be recorded, and in most cases, you won't even be given a visitors pass. If you're not given a visitors pass, no one working in the hospital even looks twice. It's a complete disgrace at best, negligent at worst. read more

WORST Hospital EVER! My wife was admitted for a fractured sacrum (bone located center of hips) 3 days ago. The hospital physical therapist disconnected the bar holding the trapeze over the bed to move her IV to the other side of the bed and neglected to tighten it down when he put it back together resulting th the bar falling on my wife's already injured hip. Her "Hospitalist" (in house Doctor) never spoke with my wife or I to explain my wife's condition or give us any info at all. Yesterday, after waiting for him all day and until 8 pm I once again gave the nurse my number for the doctor to call me and he never did. Last night my wife was in major pain so bushed the nurse button for an hour and a half before calling me for help, I called the nurse desk and her excuse was that the button must be sticking. The specialist said at this point all the hospital could do was pain management and he though she should go home, take it easy and let it heal but the "Hospitalist" refused to discharge her without giving any reason. As I was worried for my wife's safety and had been arguing with the hospital staff for about 5 hours today, I refused to sign there paperwork and picked my wife up and took her home.
