I've been a member for 40yrs at least , I know they have been growing and doing good which I'm happy for ... But I feel at the cost of the thing they were best at ,,! Local town personal touch with customers.., in the past years and especially today , it is impossible to get a person on the phone to ask a simple question !! Called 5-6 times and machine put me on hold each time for 6 to 8 minutes till I hung up .., last time I was on the phone with music for 40 minutes before I laughed and hung up .., I feel they have lost the personal tough that set them above the rest .., now it seems they are just another money taking bank .., over 30 loans , 9 accounts and kids accounts,.. not sure I have a reason to keep building them up like I have .., and maybe it's time to find a new young bank that puts quick response and a personal town feel back into my banking needs. WHY HAVE PHONE NUMBERS ON YOUR WEBSITES IF YOUR NEVER GOING TO PICKUP THE PHONE !!!??? Pretty dumb ! read more

I had submitted the mortgage application (did not submit) and ST. Mary's still ran a credit check on my history. Please beware !! No other financial institution does this or have done this whenever I have had a saved application. This can affect your loan or credit history. read more

I have been a member for over 35 yrs since I was a teenager and I can't get over the low reviews. I have never once had an problem. They have always been very helpful when I needed a car loan or refinancing my mortgage, home equity line of credit to do my kitchen over. I dealt with Alan H and he was very helpful and everything went very smoothly. I find them to have the lowest rates as well. Just my experience. read more

I do not have an account at St. Mary's but my employer does, and I sometimes visit this branch to make deposits. With all this sickness going around, one worries about personal hygiene, and people handling money should be extra cautious because money goes everywhere! Well, this past Monday, while standing in line, I saw the following example of outstanding personal hygiene: Female teller is counting money or reciepts or something. She feels she is going to cough so she raises her hands to cover her face. She coughs into her hands. She immediately wipes antibacterial gel on her hands, locks her drawer, and then steps away to wash her hands. Stellar! Also, everyone here is super nice. The drive through is a bit inconvenient (you can only get to it from Pleasant St), but overall not bad. Plus, no one complained when a little girl took down the lollipop basket and started pocketing all the good flavors. Then again, maybe only I noticed that. read more

I am a Customer, or Member at St Mary's Credit Union. In November and December, I had an incident, My Husband, the one that pay My Car Loan, made the payment using His Bank Of America Investment account, with a check. For some reason St' Marys did not post the payments, did not call me, or even sent an email, for let me know the problem. So what they did was report me as "poor customer" to the three credit Reports. My score credit from 700 go down to 630. I have a Credit history as Good, excellent payer in all my accounts. After they report, them they found me to ask for the payments. My question is Why??? The bank destroy my credit?? Why whatever I asked to fix they say "It is impossible"? If Do not have communication, How I know my account was over due??? I hope they have somebody out there to help me with this issue, as a consequence some credit card companies are closing my cards, putting down my limites. thanks zair Kaplan read more

Don't waste your time banking with these incompetent, condescending, and patronizing people. We went in for a simple heat loan through Mass Save, great credit scores, authorization paperwork in hand. Not only did it take them 4 days to respond but they know very little about a program they sponsor as lenders and they are not solutions-oriented at all. I dealt with a woman named Ellen who was rude, discourteous, and seemed completely miserable. We since went to another bank and had our paperwork processed and approved in 24 hours. If you're searching for a Mass Save heat loan, stay far far away... Based on reading the other comments here, I'm not surprised at all. Wish I read them before wasting my time. read more

Previous reviewers appropriately described SMCU as "sketchy" and "archaic". For any transactions that aren't simple deposits, they require you to announce your full name and full account number OR your social security number out loud. Every. Single. Time. I have been with St. Mary's Credit Union for over 40 years. My Grandmother & Mother did their Banking Business with them as well. No problems at all. Dealing with anyone from various locations, no problems. Cordial, caring, always a heartfelt greeting. Many locations as well. When I have questions, they are more then happy to help. I have recommended them to other family members and friends. I recommend them highly. One note, in the Main Office on West Main Street, there was a lovely picture hanging on the wall of St. Mary, a beautiful picture. One day I noticed it was gone. It was in storage. I think that is should be put back up. After all she does exist and the name of the bank St. Mary's Credit Union. My Pleasure to write this review. read more

Every time I pass by a St Mary's Branch I cannot help to think "how could you stay in business?" I tried very hard to like them for the last 5 years but I will be closing my account within a couple of days. I have called and visited the branches and it is not just one being bad, it is their modus operandi and culture that permeates and it does not seem that anybody is in charge addressing the issues that matter the most to customers. The Westborough branch for example has gone from bad to worst. I tried the Northborough Branch, not any better. I called customer service and I did receive empathy as a customer redirected to try another branch with an appointment only to find that they were protecting/in solidarity with the previous branch personnel and their behavior. i choose not to bank at an institution where staff does not demonstrate a high ethical behavior, where conversations are not respectful and private (open space loud, earshot from other employees and customers) and therefore at risk with confidentiality and information discussion and nobody in charge taking over from a "know it all person" humiliating a customer. I gave a fair opportunity to St Mary's to make it better for me after the above described situation and previous one. Nobody seemed to care enough about an A+ plus customer who never missed a payment, high line of credit. read more

St Mary's credit union sucks, so not use them at all. Last month (January) they took two payments from my bank account so I called and they said "well all we can do is make it so you don't pay till March now because we took an extra payment" so I counted it as a loss for that month. This month comes (February) and they took TWO payments again.. it's sunday so I'm freaking out cause I can't call anyone. Bottom line is do not set up automatic withdrawal because they will rob you straight up.. very disappointed. I am calling tomorrow and they will definitely be sending me a refund check or I will be contacting a lawyer immediately! read more

Get the stuffed baked haddock, its delicious. They have great steaks and chops too. A must go for any fine diner in the metro west area.

This bank is sketchy. I recently bought/financed a car and was NEVER told that with my loan I opened up a savings account with this bank. Now that I have one they are trying to bully me into transferring money into my new savings I didn't know about to then pay my loan payments. They make you jump through hoops if you want to pay any other way. AND they won't let you pay any less than the monthly payment so I can't make additional payments during the month unless they are the same amount as the minimum payment. I would have NEVER financed with them! They just trick you into making an account with them. VERY DISHONEST. read more

Do not ever use this company we signed up for automatic withdrawal because we always forget first problem we had was they pulled out three months worth of payments at once. So we called and they tried saying well we will just put it towards the next three month payments and we said no we need that money back. After arguing for hours they finally sent us a check to reimburse the money. All good right? Nope, they just called us and said oh we forgot to process the last couple months payments so we said that's not our fault? The lady goes oh well you have to pay them all right now for days before Christmas. If anything don't use this company, they're very sneaky. Super sketchy company. read more

I used this bank in the past for a previous auto loan which was a bit of a pain but whatever. Then I went to them again for another auto loan and they made me jump through so many hoops, ie. sending tax returns, pay stubs, letter from my employer, and more. They kept wanting more junk so I just told them forget it. I went to the car dealer and they got me financed in about two minutes. Don't waste your time. read more

I have been a st marys member for 25+ years. But i am closing my account. Their canadian check deposit is unbelievably impossible. I deposit about 5 times a year. The party line is complete BS, i have family members getting results in 7 days vs st marys 3 weeks. I cant ignore any more. read more

There are better credit unions, as I found out just recently. I applied for a new car loan online. After a day, I received an email saying it looked on my credit report that I have a rental property. Yes, two mortgages.. I do have a rental property. It goes on further to say that because of that, I would have to provide tax returns to get the loan! I replied back to say just cancel the request; good grief. I got a 2.3% car loan through a different credit union right through the car dealer; no questions asked! With a 760 credit score, this is how I would expect it to be. It's always a hassle at SMCU. If it wasn't such a bunch of work to change account numbers everywhere online, I would bail on them tomorrow. Go elsewhere; don't waste your time applying for loans here. read more

Been with St Marys over 10 years now, why I don't know. Customer service is the worst. They will screw up and penalize you. I fortunately have a bank account at Avidia and I can say from experience the customer service is 100% better. I simply was keeping St. Mary's because I had it before Avidia and all my auto payments etc were set up there but I've been burned 1 too many times. They do not care about me, that's for sure. If you're an average hard working Person trying to provide for your family, I do not recommend placing your hard earned money in their hands. read more

I recently decided I wanted to refinance my auto loan to remove my co-borrower and most other banks told me since I was a tad under water I would have to bring money to closing. I had my loan with St. Mary's originally so I decided to call them to see what they could do for me. They were able to refinance me for the balance that I currently had and roughly the same interest rate. I couldn't believe, I was so excited...no money to closing and my payment only changed by a few dollars...literally!!!!! Then when I ran into a slight snag they went above and beyond to accommodate me. Larry, my loan officer was great, he answered all my questions and explained the whole process. Absolutely horrible loan department service. I tried to ask for them to work with me on a past due amount and they told me they wouldn't work with me! I'm a Marine veteran single with 2 kids! And when I called to try to get it fixed the loan officer was a complete jerk! I wouldn't recommend this bank for anyone that is looking for a bank to use for anything!!! read more

This is the worst of the St Mary's CU's. The tellers are almost always too busy talking amongst themselves to notice you unless there's a line already formed. They are kids so it's not like they try to be rude I just don't think they know any better. Member services isn't any better, in fact they're even worse because they are made up of older people who should know better. Look I'm busy I don't have 45 minutes to spend changing my address especially when you told me that it would only take 10 minutes. The 1st time I tried to change my address I was on my way to work so I really only had the 10 minutes you told me that it would take; then when I stood up frustrated and said that this was taking too long both the member services and bank vice president, who share the same cube, both tried to calm me down and said that it wasn't taking that long. Look u gave you more than the 10 minutes I had that you said it would be, how much longer should it be? Every where else I've changed my address it takes under 5 minutes why is your bank. The exception? So I ended up changing my address there a few weeks later and it took over half a freaking hour. I'm still not 100% sure that they got it right I have got a new debit card but I haven't received a statement in my new place and its been 4 months. Bottom line drive a little further and go to a branch that knows what they are doing. read more

I really like the interest rate I got on my car loan BUT I cannot stand their website! I cannot set up automatic payments and navigating their website is confusing. I really hate mailing out my car payments, having to remember the date, using a stamp, finding an envelope, etc... Join the 21st century please!! read more
