I was at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, GA on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 for a cardiac procedure. Alicia in registration was just as friendly and sweet as can be. It was a pretty simple process, and she was most helpful in directing you where to go. My next stop was the laboratory to have blood drawn before the procedure. After ringing the bell more than one time to gain admittance, I finally gained access after a passing employee swiped her card and let us in. The gentleman logging into a computer never acknowledged my presence much less say good morning. The person tasked with drawing blood never said hello, good morning, or anything of the sort. She looked like she didn't want to be there at all. My last stop of the morning was in the cardiac cath lab. Everyone was extremely attentive and the procedure was done without any problems. However, the care I received after the procedure (before being discharged home) was less than stellar. The nurse who handled the care was Kayleigh. At first she seemed attentive and came back every 15 minutes as was needed. However, at one point when she came back to check on me and do what was needed, she received a telephone call on her personal cell phone and without explanation she proceeded to leave to take a personal call and left without doing what was needed. When she came back several minutes later, she indicated that it was a call regarding her surgery, which was not something she needed to be telling me. She needed to just attend to me and what was needed to be done so I could be discharged home. Because of her delay in my care, it kept me there almost an hour longer. Health care workers need to realize that our lives are in their hands and their personal lives need to take a backseat to their JOBS!!!!!! This was a very stressful day for me as it was. I do realize that everyone has things they themselves are dealing with, but when you're being paid to do your JOB, you need to LEAVE IT AT THE DOOR and do your JOB!!! read more

Though I had the last room on the Ortho floor, I'm presuming it was because my deductible was met I got this lavish room. Nursing staff were phenomenal at getting my meds on time. The CNA was not very friendly, unfortunately. That was my only beef along with no one offered me my undies to put back on. Yes the place is old but what do expect. If you want fancy go somewhere else that's new. Just know every hospital is going to have some sort of issue. Especially since most quality nurses and staff were let go over the false planned pandemic. read more

One of my daughters just had a baby here December 9, but she had complications and has now spent 10 out of 17 days since little Charlie was born in the hospital being cared for. She had a cesarean section for the baby, and it was scheduled and all went well. Baby is great, but my daughter has been fighting some difficulties after the birth that are kind of unique and not related to anything the hospital did. I live in Winder and I've never actually been to the hospital until now , but I am going to toot the horn for the nurses. I love nurses because they tell it straight. They are there to comfort you and get you everything you need and they are fantastic here! We have many doctors coming in and out that just say a couple of words And leave a little bit blank with no information on her progress or what an antibiotics she can remain on without having to stay on the third floor care. We had Christmas today in the room with her and her husband but her three kids were not there. They had left earlier to go to the grandparents but I shout out to Kaitlyn and I'm trying to remember the other nurses that have come and go but even on Christmas day, there is only three people on the floor that had babies still in the hospital and the staff was fantastic. This is an old hospital, but parking is easy. The hospital is easy to find and for me, they made them as comfortable as they could having to stay in the hospital over Christmas without your baby until you heal, which is a horrible thing to go.thank you St. Mary's for making this experience better they should be. read more

Every hospital is like this not just st Marys and they do not deserve a low score for this however there is a false sense of niceness with the girls in the lab. They tried to rush me out of there telling me my glucose tolerance test was for one hour instead of two and it clearly said two on my orders. luckily the drink they gave me was expired and im going to go to other lab to take test if i can. DO NOT use this facility. My husband has been in the ER room for 24 hours. They promised a room last night and that never happened. Had a test done this morning and it is now 4:00 and we are still waiting for the radiologist to review the test results. They do not provide water or any food...at all. People are on stretchers in the hallway. They are too slow to process people out of here. I am sure that my invoice will reflect the extra time we are sitting here waiting to be discharged. My son visited this hospital's emergency room for a skin rash. The ER doctor who saw him for 2 minutes said he does not know anything about this condition. He told my son to see a dermatologist and charged us $935.00 on the top of $972.95 bill from this Hospital. I have been at the hospital since April 27th with my father. We only had one 2r hour periid where the care was not up to par. The majority of the staff have been amazing and caring. Thatbeing said, the roi. Has never been swept or mopped since we have been here. He has incontine and has had to step on urine Dribbled on floors for the past 6 days and nights. When i get him back in to bed there are days worth of debris that also stays on his feet and is drug back into the bed with him as well. The faucet in the bathroom also leaks any tine you turn in the faucet. The paper towel dispenser was mis fed and will not dispense any paper fro. The roll. I have not witnessed one staff member actually wash their hands with soap and water inly the hand sanitizer by the door. I realize this is the tine if covid, but the lack of cleanliness and sanitation is quite alarming. As i ha esaid we have had some of the most ama?ing and caring nurses and techs imaginable. We were infor ed that there is only one house keeper per shift. I have requested a broom, dust pan and mop but that us not available to the floor staff as well. I am thankful that I was allowed to stay with him as he us unstable in his feet and when he gas to gi to the bathroom he could nit wait the length if time it takes for anyone to answer the call light ir get ti his room. So this has been a big blessing for our family. So anyone else who is admitted, the family needs ti bring their own housekeeping supplies. read more

I have been there several times for outpatient radiology tests and on more than one occasion, they have been understaffed and I was told that I could wait or reschedule. (waiting involved several hours) A family member (chronic alcoholic) was treated like a leper! He was in crisis... they did the bare minimum and put him on a bench in front of the ER for me to pick him up!! ARMC treated him like a human being, a sick person, someone with a disease. *****Beware everybody, I cannot make this up!***** May 18, 2022, I had the worst experience at Saint Mary's hospital located in Athens, GA. Fifteen minutes after arriving to see my 95-year-old grandmother at the ICU, nurse/Stacey entered the room without uttering a word. No, she did not introduce herself or acknowledge me whatsoever. She rudely asked grandmother some questions then left the room. Another relative arrived 10 minutes afterwards. Stacey returned to the room 20 minutes later and did not acknowledge my relative, stepped all over my relative without saying excuse me and proceeded to check grandmother's glucose. My grandmother is as nice and kind as it gets, however, Stacy was not kind to grandmother. She told grandmother in a firm tone to stop tangling up the IV and other monitoring cords/wires. I was in disbelief. After the disturbing behavior Stacey displayed, grandmother apologized and thanked her three times for checking on her. She ignored grandmother and did not acknowledge anything grandmother said. At that point, I said, "what is your name" and mentioned to Stacey that she did not seem so happy to be in a nurse's role. I believe she is only in it for a paycheck. I asked her why she ignored and demonstrated rude behavior towards grandmother. Of course, she was passive aggressive and left the room. Next, the shift changed at 7pm then a male nurse entered the room and did not introduce himself either. I introduced myself to him and asked him to provide his name. He said his name was Mark and mentioned that he was aware of who I was in a nonchalant tone. I am assuming Stacey painted me in a bad light to Mark which is why he was in a funk too. Imagine that! The horrible issue was/still is disturbing and needs to be investigated. This is what is on the surface at Saint Mary's hospital when family members are present, God knows what else is going on when family members are not present. Thank God grandmother only stayed two nights at the terrible ICU. P.S. I will also notify the complaint hotline regarding my serious concerns as this is never acceptable by no means. I would never, in a million years, recommend a family member be sent to St. Mary's Hospital for ANYTHING. This hospital has the rudest, most careless nursing staff I have ever seen in my entire life. My father-in-law was sent to St. Mary's after an infection made it into his blood stream and caused severe complications. After a brief stent in the emergency room, he was transferred into their ICU department where a doctor that specialized in infectious diseases was put on his case. For several days, it was CT scan this, blood work that, MRI this, nuclear test that, ultrasounds....with zero answers as to what was wrong with him. Every single day they were repeating the same tests over and over, with no explanation as to what they were looking for or why they were continuing to perform the same tests over and over again. We knew the first several days were going to be loaded with tests in order to figure out what was wrong with him.....but by day 6 in the ICU ward, we were becoming incredibly frustrated with the lack of answers or explanation as to what they were looking for or trying to target. All they did was dump antibiotics and pain killers into his system and hope for the best. When we brought up the fact that he had been in ICU for over a week and we had no answer as to what could possibly be wrong with him, the doctor was incredibly flippant and said "well he's better than he was when he first got here, and you weren't here to see his condition so you have no idea how much we've done for him". I was completely off put by the doctor's response and "high and mighty" attitude. After day 4-5, I pushed to have him moved to Emory in Atlanta, in order to get him to a place where he would be under an incredibly talented team of doctors and I wish I had pushed that harder. OH--and the nursing staff left him in soiled linens for over an hour before showing up to change him multiple days in a row....it's unbelievable the level of neglect that this hospital shows their patients. After finally getting him stabilized, it was time to get him moved to an acute care facility nearby and for days, they kept telling us that they would prepare him for the move and have him transferred on a Monday. By the end of the day Monday, when no one showed up to give direction on his move, come to find out the administrative staff NEVER sent the paperwork over to the acute care facility!!!! More days went by as they finally sent the paperwork in (in order to clear his insurance and move the case over), then after 3 days of no answers...come to find out, they sent the paperwork to the wrong department!! So again, we go back into the loop of administrative stuff with no answers as to when he will be moved. He continues to sit in ICU just twiddling his thumbs waiting to move to the new facility while the team at St. Mary's piddles around, racking up his hospital bill (thank goodness for insurance). My biggest complaint is how poor the communication is within this facility. There is poor communication between the doctor and the patient, between the doctors themselves, nursing staff, administrative staff.....in general, the communication level has been so poor that 1-star seems too high of a rating. If you just TALK to someone and keep them updated, you'll have more informed and happy patients...period, even if you aren't 100% sure with what is wrong you just need to keep everyone informed. It's not hard or complicated. My guess is if they would have communicated better, we would have had a more decent experience.....oh, and work on your administrative staff...what a SHAME. And leaving a patient in soiled linens for OVER AN HOUR???? That is COMPLETELY unacceptable!!! I don't know if Piedmont Hospital is any better than St. Mary's....but it can't be worse than here. read more

Never never again! My 93 year old mom was admitted for gastro issues April 2020 and with covid restrictions, not one family member was able to visit the entire time she was there. We had so many questions about what was happening and staff was horrible to reach or even get an answer...she was discharged, literally left at hospital door for family member to pick up....no one to answer questions about her care, extended care from there....just awful. One month later we are still trying to figure out her discharge protocol......So frustrating the lack of professionalism, care and compassion for her, absolutely despicable. read more

Everyone that I dealt with, from the receptionist to the nurse who administered my Meds right before being released, was beyond professional. It was almost like being cared for by family. Emergency room visit happened October 2019. Overall great experience. However the paperwork that I filled out with my correct address must have been filled in the trash bc the bills were sent to a temporary address that never existed on any state/federal id. I have no idea where they got a temporary address we had for 3 months during a corporate relocation. This address was provided to all those that bill so a $30 bill went unpaid for almost a year and went to collection. All o have to say is I've always hated filling out paperwork but this just proves no one looks at it period. In reflecting back five days to my stay at Saint Mary's hospital for back surgery by Dr. Talley I told my wife that this was going to be my hospital from now on !!! Dr. Talley had to redo the surgery I had at another place six years ago and then do the surgery he was going to do on me all in the same surgery. If he had not been a good doctor he would not have caught that the bolts were loose on my last surgery !!! The ER nurse Heather was a very good nurse and the other nurses I had were exceptional nurses. Sue, Ansley,Carden and Maddie were like angels to me!! Do not come here if you are having a mental health crisis. I stayed here for almost two days and while there I started my period and the only thing I was given to clean myself up with was wet wipes. Even after I asked if I could have a shower, the only thing I was given was a washcloth, a plastic bin, and some baby soap and I was told that I could clean myself up using the sink in the hallway. I ultimately ended up going home instead of being transferred to inpatient as originally intended because all I wanted was to feel clean again. read more

I wish there was a negative star option. I went to the emergency room thinking I might have the flu or worse. I eventually saw a doctor who sent me away with a prescription saying I had a sever cold. No issue there. The problem came when I went to pay my bill. I was told that they did not know how much my charges would be? I was like- I saw a doc for 10 minutes ; a nurse for 12; a clerk in and out for 17; they should know how much my visit costs. I realize now why they avoid that topic. Had they told me the costs of my visit there that night, they would have felt ashamed at royally screwing over another human being. About two weeks later I get a bill for over $800. If living the Virgin Mary would demand her name be removed from this scandalous faculty. Shame on you St Mary's. read more

July 19, 2019. Hannah, our nurse at Emergency today, was the most efficient, friendly and helpful nurse ever. She definitely went beyond the call of duty. My husband had an acute gastric problem, which was solved with endoscopy. Also, the hospital was IMMACULATE! Cleanest hospital ever. Doctors were wonderful...I just can't say enough.
