This review will be biased as we've been a part the Refuge Church Murrells Inlet since nearly their…read moreinception 8 years ago. However, this was always our "vacation church" until moving back to Murrells Inlet last year. When we got our place in Murrells Inlet, we set out to find a good church home that we could be a part of while at the Beach. We didn't have anything particularly in mind other than a solid statement of beliefs and a clear reflection of the heart of Jesus in its people. We initially found Refuge Murrells Inlet driving by on Murrells Inlet Rd. and decided it would be our next shot at finding a good church. From the moment my wife and I walked in, we felt welcomed by the pastoral staff and the warm and friendly church family. For myself, one of the things that sets the Refuge Church Murrells Inlet apart is their genuine love for each other and the Murrells Inlet community. It truly shows in how they choose to spend time together, either serving the community, at church events, or just as friends celebrating a birthday or gathering to watch a game. This was evident even from our first visit and continues today. A separate shout out for Pastor Benji, who made us feel like the Refuge Murrells Inlet was always our church home - even though we lived elsewhere and watched online. Through those years, Benji was faithful to stay connected, pray for us, and "welcome us home" each time we returned. Benji demonstrates real agape love and the church family at the Refuge Murrells Inlet do the same. The messages are enduringly positive but always challenging. I never leave feeling beat down but always feel motivated to chase after Jesus more. Pastor Benji (and Pastor Shawn) deliver the truth in love in a way that is approachable, authentic, and clear. Sometimes sermons are delivered in series, individually, or a few months will be spent unpacking a book of the Bible, chapter-by-chapter. Jesus is on full display, with Christ-centered and Spirit-led worship and messages. I won't comment on the music ministry because I serve on the team and don't want to be overly biased BUT I love our team and seeing what God is doing in the worship ministry. Folks serve passionately and push themselves for constant growth in Christ, and musically. The church family joyfully participates in worship and feels engaged. I could go on and on mentioning the other ministries and each of the wonderful folks and how they authentically play a role in the church family.
