Outstanding meals Warm staff Cozy environs My family and I happened by St. Moritz on a stroll and made a note to return later in the day - this turned out to be an excellent decision. On a Wednesday evening around 8, our party of four was seated timely as the last party without a booking in this small but comfortable space. We reviewed the menu and ordered appetizers, entree fondue, and desserts - this turned out to be a blessing and a curse, if only because the portions were both almost unbearably large AND unbelievably mouthwatering. We were drawn toward finishing our food like moths to flame, and our bellies sighed with relief as the meal ended - even though our palates could have kept going for days. The first impression here reaches your nose before all other senses, the air is heavy with the thick and delicious scent of cheese, assailing you in the face as you walk in the door. After awhile you acclimatise and notice that you have walked into a Swiss lodge, with bells adorning the room and a warm, cosy atmosphere. There is an a la carte menu, but I came here for fondue and chose the vegetable fondue, thinking with all that Gruyere cheese, surely it would be lighter than the meat option. It was absolutely lovely, but I don't think there is a light way to have fondue, I was so full! The vegetable option came with a generous and varied plate that included mushrooms, courgette, carrots, and broccoli. Any fondue is minimum for 2 people, but to be honest it's so generously portioned that 3 could easily share it. The raclette appetiser was also delicious, and I quite wish I had more of it as soon as it was finished. The raclette cheese itself was so moreish, went well with the potatoes, and I loved the little pickles. We ordered bread for the fondue, but the vegetables alone are so filling that I hardly had space for the bread, which seemed to be never-ending. My friend ordered the escargot appetiser, which I tried and found quite pleasant even though I'm not that familiar with the dish. This is probably bad fondue etiquette, but if you like your vegetables soft, then I'd recommend keeping them dipped in the cheese for awhile so that they cook a bit. Even though I was absolutely stuffed, I saved space for dessert (second stomach of course), and we ordered the chocolate fondue. It was also incredibly generous, with a beautifully laid out plate of fruits, biscuits, and marshmallows. The chocolate was absolutely delicious and went really well with the marshmallows, and even in my extremely full state, I could not resist finishing them off. The strawberries and oranges were fresh and and sweet and the fruit quality is top notch. As well as the excellent food, half of the fun of fondue is the camaraderie of dipping morsels into the cheese with your friends in the literally warm atmosphere. We had an absolutely lovely time in this charming restaurant. This is definitely not a light meal with all the cheese and bread, but it is quite a fun fondue experience, good for chilly nights with cheese-loving friends. read more

A true cheese lovers paradise.Their traditional onion soup with gruyere crouton is quite literally the best I've ever had. I ordered the pork bratwurst which came with fried potatoes and onion gravy which was excellent. I always wanted to try fondue but never got the chance to until I found this petite restaurant in soho. Very nice atmosphere specially during dinner time. U have to make a table reservation for this restaurant since it's always packed. The food was really nice, I order the prime cube beef in a pot of oil to try, u cook it to ur liking in a lil pot with very hot oil and it is accompany by difference choices of dipping sauce, very tasty but the portion was a bit small for the price of 26£+. Additionally I order a fondue that comes with bread and potato, and not to forget in a bubbly hot pot of melted Swiss cheese! Very lovely! It was a great experience at this restaurant, if you wanna try something different than your normal restaurant and want to show some friends/love one around, this might be a great place for quality time! updated: every year I come to London I must come here to have fondue, it is so satisfying each time I come and service is impeccable, price still on the high side but you won't regret it with the food quality and service so I finally decided to give this restaurant a 5 star! read more

One of only a handful of fondue restaurants in London, St Mortiz is cheese heaven. It also evokes such fond memories of going skiing - a fondue often being the highlight of the week and something, whilst expensive on the slopes, I always look forward to. I loved this quaint little alpine oasis on Wardour street. It's one of the cutest restaurants I've been to, feels so much like a mountain chalet, with wonky floors, heavy plush carpet, twisted exposed wooden beams and throughout hangs large cow bells. They've gotten every detail just right, even down to the beautiful plates, designed with a groove so that you can rest your cheese fork all snug and safe. And the fondue? Well it was amazing. We ordered a couple for the table to share, which came with potatoes, bread and vegetables and I'm sad to say, whilst we tried our hardest, there was just too much cheese for us to handle. The cheese itself might not be the cause of nightmares, but that we left some uneaten, is. For larger tables you need to give a deposit and order in advance, however the process was very easy, the staff I spoke to were very helpful and responsive to my enquires. We also brought a vegan friend and they were very happy to discuss an alternative menu option with him which left him very happy. Wine was also reasonably priced and at about £20 for a cheese fondue (per head, and you need 2 people to order one), I thought it was really reasonable. In the end the bill can to about £30, which I think was an absolute bargain. I shall be planning on going back, as soon as my little podgy cheese filled legs will carry me. read more

You know what's great about cheese, you can melt it down and dip chunks of carb-tastic bread in it, till you feel like you may die. Fondue is always a great idea in theory, but then you have a giant ball of melted cheese in your stomach and you are having pains down your left arm. Come to St.Moritz for the fabulous fondue and the giant rosti, stay to listen to the owner berate the waitresses and generally stomp about. It has a very family run ambience and while I generally love this kind of craziness, it was a bit awkward as we were the only table in the place. Like a Swiss chalet on crack cocaine, the place is bedecked with scrolly dark wood, kitsch cow bells and all sorts of yodelly paraphenalia. If you love cheese as much as I do, St. Moritz is one of the only places to score in town. A bit expensive, but so comforting. read more

If I ever get homesick of Switzerland - there is only one place a Swiss would go. Ironic enough St. Moritz is placed in the busiest area of London. Walking down Wardour Street you will find a petite wooden chalet. From outside you might think it looks a bit 'oldy woldy', however this place is the one to go for the best cheese fondue, a proper Rösti or a "Zürcher Gschnetzeltes". I suggest to visit this place in Winter, however, if you are like me, I get my craving for Swiss cheese fondue all year long. Even as a Swiss, I have to admit the "yodel" music in the background is a little bit too much. The place is very small, however, if you happen to be a bigger party, there is a room up stairs, which can be booked. There is another little detail, which might be of interest to you, downstairs St. Moritz meets the needs for Swiss football fans that cannot miss a match - you will be surrounded by equally minded patriots (me included). read more

I only been here twice for the chocolate fondue which is made with exceptional swiss chocolate and comes with a variety of fruits to dip in, so will be amending my review once i try the rest of the menu. Skipping that, this place has a lovely swiss and cosy vibe which make it an amazing destination during a cold winter in London. The only reason i am giving it 4 stars is because they are very hesitant to sit you if you are only interested in getting a chocolate fondue and they would expect you to order something from the lunch menu before getting the chocolate fondue. This is understandable as they only have a few tables and it can be avoided if you go after lunch hours/afternoonish when it is almost empty and you state that you are only there for dessert. read more

This was the second restaurant on my try-a-schnitzel list. So I went there to check out the Escalope Viennoise and added some Spätzli as side. My time at St Moritz also was much better, because I had some nice guys at the next table. They live already for many years in London and told me, that at Zeitgeist the quality of the schnitzel depends highly on the chef. Anyway, the most annoying at St Moriz is the Swiss-Bavarian style of music. But this music matches the interior of the restaurant somehow and contributes to the Swiss-ish atmosphere, so for that it might be ok. But still it is horrible... ;) All in all, definitely a great place for a delicious schnitzel in London. However, it's not a cheap restaurant, but who expects a cheap Swiss restaurant? We came here because it is one of the few places if not the only that serves Fondue. Now, I am not Swiss in any way shape or form, but I do adore cheese, especially the melted kind. It doesn't come cheap but its totally worth it. My favourite is the Fondue 'Valaissane Aux Tomates', is a blend of Gruyere and Vacherin served with bread and new potatoes to share, it comes at £14.90 per person. If you are not so insane about cheese as I am, they have wide selection of meets, fish, soups, pasta, appetizers and veggie dishes. They are all traditional Swiss cuisine and although I haven't personally tasted them, I am told the Filet Madagascar (£20, beef with a whisky and cream sauce cooked with green peppers) is finger liking good! And to end the night with silver lining why not order the chocolate fondue? (mouth watering as I write) You must know the best chocolates are swiss, so imagine them melted into a luxurious pot and then dipping in fresh fruit and biscuits. Lush!!! read more

Marvelously worn, kitsch decor and a crazy mix of 80s detective drama-style muzak combined with yodely mountain music as a backdrop to dinner. The waitresses were a bit generally curt, but polite with the table service. The fondue was delicious. Cheesy, bubbly, gooey goodness. The "charcuterie" plate was less amazing - more like deli sandwich meat + some lettuce than what I would normally think of as charcuterie. But the cheese made up for it. While I really wanted to try the chocolate fondue dessert, there just wasn't room after tackling a pot of melted cheese. While the whole place makes you feel like you've walked through a time warp into the 70s, it's still got a good thing going with the traditional food. It was a fun place for birthday meal! read more

I'm missing my ski trip this year so i jumped at the chance of heading of to this place! The tiny little restaurant is like stepping inside Switzerland, with dark wood, cow bells and lots of yummy cheese. There is lots of yummy food choices fondues, meat and raclette to name a few. The fondue aren't the cheapest but very very yummy... We went for the bread & potatoes fondue, and had to ask for more of both - which was brought promptly. Service was good - you really need to book here though as it is so tiny fills up. You almost forget where you are stepping out on the streets of Soho. first contact with the place was on a Sunday, three weeks ago.. it was closed.. Frustrated I was.. I came back the next monday with friend who recommended me the place. He was right. The place was full. Cosy interiors, with brilliant memorabilia : cow bells, Swiss horns hanging on the wall Warm atmosphere, and smell of cheese all over the place. Food wise, went for a fondue, not the French Alps one I am familiar with, but the Swiss-kind.. The difference lays in the local Swiss cheese they use here. And they are different type of Fondue. We had a go on the brillant viande des grisons as a snack (delicious)... Very Good proportion, the three of us struggle to finish the fondue. This evening in Switzerland was delightful.. tell me, was it snow I spotted by the window ? We went for lunchtime and had a wonderful experience. Amazing service and quiet during the day. We ordered fondue with bread and new potatoes with sirloin steak. Everything was delicious. We also were recommended the 1936 beer which was wonderful. At the end of the meal our server even helped us scrape the cheese from the bottom to try. Cheesy goodness! We went here last summer and ate cheese fondue - it was absolutely fabulous, extremely filling. When we asked for a little more bread they bought a completely full second basket. Still had room for a Coupe Denmark - ice cream with a jug of chocolate on the side! The restaurant itself is decorated to be traditionally Swiss. It's tiny, the loo is extremely claustrophic, but it is charming! We're visiting on Swiss National day in a few weeks and hoping to try the Cordon Bleu! read more

I ate at St Moritz three or four times now and so far it never disappointed me. I'm a cheesaholic and I have to admit I had fondue every single time so I didn't try anything else on the menu apart from the starters. St Moritz is more a winter restaurant, it's cosy, it's warm, it's woody and it reminds of a chalet in the Alps where you snuggle up in front of a fireplace sipping red wine. Good thing they are based in London where even in August on some days it feels like January. Back to the food, for starters me and my fiancée tried escargots with garlic and herbs and the terrine maison which basically is the house pate. They both tasted amazing the amount of garlic in the escargots (perfect for this dish) is going to affect your social life for the rest of the night and the day after so if you are on a first date with someone you really like, better to pick something else! The pate is like a cream and it melts in your mouth. The star of the restaurant is definitely the fondue (to share). They are specialized in this great dish in fact they have different versions on the menu. To me the best one is the classic FONDUE NEUCHATELOISE with gruyere cheese and bread. I can stay for an hour just rolling the bread in the melted cheese, it feels therapeutic but that's just me I guess. We always have a white wine with the fondue as the staff suggested, a very good wine from one of the Swiss canton. The service is great, all the waiters are very polite and caring and they make you feel very welcomed. I really recommend this restaurant in the heart of Soho. read more

For my main course, I had veal sausage with roast potatoes in an onion sauce, and my husband had slices of veal in a creamy mushroom sauce. Onion soup is standard quality, good but nothing special. Escargot is incredible. Fondue is great, but mostly I felt like it was a novelty bc it's not easy to come by. Service is so-so. They once laughed at me bc I showed up (single!) with no reservation. So next time I made one for the earliest time available which happens to be their opening time. They will not let you in ONE second prior. i got there 15 minutes early. I mean, how about "we can get you out of the elements and seat you, but no service until 6:00." I would have appreciated that. Great Soho stalwart, if you love cheese, you'll love this restaurant. The Nicheloisse (apologies for bad spelling) fondue is to die for (all fondues are for 2 people), but we always want the meat one too, so always over-order. The rosti is wonderful as is the house salad. The wine list is Swiss, so you may need to ask some advice from the staff who are all very friendly. Quite a small restaurant on 2 floors, with horns, cow bells, edelweiss etc decorating the walls. Great place for 2 or in a group. read more
