This school has been just what our family needed, as new residents of the area. The academic curriculum is both challenging and age-appropriate. For this staff of educators, it's more than just a job...it's a calling and a ministry and they give so much of themselves on a daily basis. I've had one kiddo on the campus from age 4 until now (age 10), and my littlest one started this last spring (age 4). HCMS has a very strong familial environment that I honestly don't think I could find elsewhere. I know that they are happy and safe and learning in an environment that teaches more than just standard curriculum, but also an entire method of learning that never ceases to astound me. There are so many positive attributes I could list, but it's even easier to just go take a tour of the campus. Plus there is no description of the atmosphere that I could ever come up with to do the school justice. But If I had to pick just one thing about HCMS to relate to other parents who are looking for the right fit for their kids, it is that you are always welcome on campus. Seriously, like always. That was a big deal for an overbearing mother who wasn't ready to let go :) Instead of crying in the parking lot I was welcomed to cry on campus, in the office, in the classroom, heck I've shed a few tears in their goat habitat. You are welcome to observe the classes (all levels), and not only are you allowed to hang out but it's encouraged. Okay crap just one more thing that I want to mention is that the Montessori Method is really into having the students help each other, it's structured so that the older ones even give lessons to the younger ones. It's my impression that most of the parents of the school did not receive Montessori education themselves, but you would never know it. There is a great sense of comradery between the parents with each other as well as with the the eclectic group of teachers and staff. Many of the teachers and staff have students at the school as well. Shouldn't that be a pretty good indicator of a great place to drop your kids off every day? The teachers are all amazing. Each classroom has a certified Montessori teacher to guide the children to find their love of learning and direct them through the curriculum at their own paces. The classrooms encourage collaboration between the students of different levels and the respect the teachers have for the children shows them how to treat each other. I am constantly impressed by all the students here.

Our son is thriving under the care of Ms. Roasa, a loving, structured, and incredibly responsive teacher who goes above and beyond to communicate with parents and challenge every student to reach their full potential. Her dedication to both academic and personal growth is inspiring. The entire school reflects this same level of excellence. The administrators are highly qualified, supportive, and effective in their roles. There is a clear structure across the campus that emphasizes discipline and respect--lessons that may be tough for young children at first, but are handled with such care and consistency by the staff that they become second nature over time. Both students and parents are held to high standards, which is something I find incredibly refreshing in today's educational landscape. Compared to our experience in a traditional public school district, the difference has been night and day. At previous schools, we often saw a lack of discipline and respect, and far too quickly, some students were labeled or given diagnoses to explain behavior rather than working to understand and improve the root cause. At Founders, it's clear that they invest in every child's growth in a meaningful way. Since transitioning to Founders, we've seen remarkable changes in our son--improved grades, better self-control, increased responsibility, and a newfound sense of discipline. The curriculum is high-level, even at the lower grade levels, and challenges students in all the right ways. Unlike many public schools that "teach to the test," Founders builds its lessons thoughtfully, ensuring students not only succeed on standardized tests but also gain a deeper, richer understanding of material that's often overlooked elsewhere. I'm amazed at the things my young son comes home having learned--topics I never encountered until much later in school. The campus itself is beautiful and well-maintained, and the classrooms are purposefully arranged to support focused and effective learning. When we first start at GDA, Jamie King was the head of school. We loved her and were very sad to see her leave. I loved the curriculum, the fact that cursive was taught in kindergarten and Latin was taught in 1st grade and 2nd grade if I am remembering correctly. I also loved that I had a set of books at home so I could follow the curriculum as close a possible to the way the teacher was teaching for home days. Unfortunately the parent involvement demands for GDA no longer worked for us. Also, not having a full 5 days a week with a teacher for routine for my student was not beneficial. When we started comparing private schools in the local community, I made a pros and cons list of why we should stay at GDA and why another school might be a better fit for us. GDA has grown a little since we have left and now that TEFA has been implemented, I'm sure the number of students will grow. I suggest when you look for a school, regardless if it is public or private, take a tour of the campus, ask families of current students and alumni their opinion. Take people's reviews on Yelp, Facebook, and Google with a grain of salt. Also reach out to them and ask them if their student is still at the school AND did this student graduate from that school the reviewer is praising. You will surprised at how many people give schools 5 stars and left the school for a different school. Somethings may have changed since I created my list, but here is part of my list for GDA that I used to decide to stay or go to a different school: -GDA: Established 2012 -The tuition and fees are from 3-4 years ago, so this info is incorrect.
