The program director and teachers have really gone above and beyond to help support our son's development. We were especially appreciative of their support during potty training and learning to use gentle hands with peers. I have loved the emphasis on building independence and our son does a great job with putting on clothes/shoes, mealtime routines, cleaning up messes, etc. The students have "jobs" they select and complete, and these tasks have helped our son with his focus, problem solving, and fine skills (just to name a few). Our family also loves that the toddler program is Spanish immersion. Our son is currently 2.5 and is talking more and has such positive things to say about his teachers, classmates, and experiences at school. His favorite is when Mr. Bruce (a music teacher) comes to visit. We toured quite a few programs in the area and really appreciated how intentional MLS is. We highly recommend MLS

At the beginning of the school year, my grandmother passed away, and during that horrible time I asked for support to help keep my son on track with his assignments. I was told to rely on his communication notebook, but felt that wasn't enough given the circumstances. Near the end of the final trimester, I was informed that my son was at risk of failing math. I was frustrated because this was the first time I had been made aware that he was struggling. I was told there had not been any concerns before then and that he should begin attending student hours. Earlier communication (in addition to seeing some poor grades in cj which only suggested that we implement new study habits) would have allowed us to address the issue before it became so serious. Parent teacher conferences were unhelpful. Unfortunately, attending student hours was also challenging. If a student arrives even a FEW minutes late, they are not permitted to join because it would "disrupt" the ongoing session. The morning drop-off procedures can be difficult to navigate, as the gates are opened on a very strict schedule. On one occasion, I had to park and walk my son into school before 7:30 a.m., and by the time we reached student hours we were only a couple of minutes late. He was not allowed to attend. Ironically, had it been 7:31 a.m., I could have used the drive-through drop-off instead but would have been late to student hours. There were also several school policies that made the experience more difficult for our family. Students were not allowed to play tag on the playground, school lunches were not provided, and the after-school program was very costly even with scholarship.

The school strongly emphasizes academics and kids are given letter/percentage grades like high schools do. Yes there's pressure but nothing we can't handle so far. My complaints: 1. De-prioritization of physical activity. You have to put your child in an after school club (more money) for dance, bowling, and other movement-based activities. I had the opportunity to volunteer to help with hot lunch once. I learned a lot. Like just how short lunch is; it explained why my daughter was hungry but had uneaten food in her lunch last semester. Volunteering has opened my eyes and I started packing her lunches a little differently 2. It's a charter school so they have to raise money. However, the fundraiser updates in the app are ridiculous. Class vs class, grade vs grade. Everyone hurry and donate before the deadline...use the AZ tax credit...oh the deadline has been extended so you can donate more (no surprise) None of the issues I mentioned are major to me. Why? Because my kindergartener is reading, can read digital and analog clocks, she can add double-digit numbers, etc but her friends who are in 1st and 2nd grade in TUSD schools aren't there yet. The academic advantage Basis provides is unparalleled without attending an expensive private school But there are pros and cons to each school and I've included a couple for potential parents considering the school

The last straw was when the teacher allowed three kids to assault my very young grandchild in a way that is so disgusting I can't post it here. I had six kids and they all went to daycare and never did anything like this happen to them. The teacher had the attitude of "they're just kids" but we reported the main kid who was the problem and who constantly harms other kids several times and. They did nothing to protect the kids from this abusive child. They should be closed down for neglect and child endangerment. I feel sorry for the other kids who have likely been assaulted there. Do not take your kids here if you value the safety of your children.

The atmosphere is set up for education, so my son is learning and preparing for kindergarten. While at the same time being cared for and having fun. My son loves his school, his teachers, his friends. I feel like my son will have friends/relationships from here well after he transitions into kindergarten. I also really love how the school does events that gets family involved. For example, they'll do a big Thanksgiving dinner for the families at the school, which aunts, uncles, grandparents are all invited too. We've been going here for over a year, Dr. Fil and the teachers feel like an extension of our family. When my father in law was sick, Dr. Fil had my sons class make him a get well card. Which he loved. He eventually passed away, and Dr. Fil had the kids make a condolence banner, for our family. They're very thoughtful and compassionate here. I can see how generations of families stayed with and grown with this school. They are so great!
