They come home quoting scripture and have memorized some great bible stories. My 4 year old is beginning to read and my 3 year old is learning to write. I am writing to share my experience following a tour of Adventure School on Monday, July 7, 2025. I…read morehave been actively visiting various preschools and childcare centers in search of the best environment for my two-year-old son. Throughout this process, I have encountered several programs that did not meet my standards or expectations. Adventure School, however, stood out as a refreshing and reassuring exception. Although I did not have a scheduled appointment, I was warmly welcomed by Sarah, who immediately made me feel at ease. She took the time to understand what I was looking for and kindly offered to show me the two-year-old classroom. The teacher in that room was attentively seated with a child who appeared to be waking up or had just arrived, while the other children played calmly within her line of sight. Importantly, the classroom was in ratio--something I've found to be lacking in many other centers. The environment was calm, organized, and engaging. The walls displayed children's artwork, the classroom was rich in print, and materials were thoughtfully arranged without being overwhelming. A child-sized bathroom was located within the classroom, providing convenient access for potty-trained children. Throughout the tour, I asked detailed questions about teacher-to-child ratios, daily schedules, tuition, meals, hours of operation, and more. Sarah was able to answer all my inquiries thoroughly and without hesitation. She also discussed classroom transitions and walked us through the three-year-old room. Before that, she allowed my son to explore the outdoor play area, which included developmentally appropriate toys and climbing structures. We also had a meaningful conversation about early intervention, including AzEIP and Child Find, and how the school supports children who may be experiencing developmental delays. Sarah's knowledge and genuine commitment to supporting all children were clearly evident. Sarah's demeanor was warm, professional, and consistent throughout the visit. Despite spending a significant amount of her time with us, Sarah never appeared rushed or inconvenienced. This was a stark contrast to the reception I've received at several other centers. Upon leaving, I immediately contacted a friend who is also searching for a preschool and strongly recommended she consider Adventure School, despite the distance. Had the location been closer to our home and workplace, and the cost more manageable for our budget, I would have enrolled my son on the spot. Based on my experience, I have full confidence that he would be safe, supported, and nurtured in this environment.

This day care has been the best thing for my son. He was previously in a day care where they…read morebasically baby sat all day. At Adventure they focus on learning and development and fun. He loves his teachers and his classmates. They are great at communicating when he has done something wrong and making sure that i know its normal and that they are helping. The director, Laura, holds her staff to the highest standards because she knows they are capable and exceed those expectations. Every day when i drop my son off i feel like i'm leaving him with family.

During the school year, students are assigned approximately one hour of homework each night, along…read morewith weekly homework packets. At the beginning of the school year, my grandmother passed away, and during that horrible time I asked for support to help keep my son on track with his assignments. I was told to rely on his communication notebook, but felt that wasn't enough given the circumstances. Near the end of the final trimester, I was informed that my son was at risk of failing math. I was frustrated because this was the first time I had been made aware that he was struggling. I was told there had not been any concerns before then and that he should begin attending student hours. Earlier communication (in addition to seeing some poor grades in cj which only suggested that we implement new study habits) would have allowed us to address the issue before it became so serious. Parent teacher conferences were unhelpful. Unfortunately, attending student hours was also challenging. If a student arrives even a FEW minutes late, they are not permitted to join because it would "disrupt" the ongoing session. The morning drop-off procedures can be difficult to navigate, as the gates are opened on a very strict schedule. On one occasion, I had to park and walk my son into school before 7:30 a.m., and by the time we reached student hours we were only a couple of minutes late. He was not allowed to attend. Ironically, had it been 7:31 a.m., I could have used the drive-through drop-off instead but would have been late to student hours. There were also several school policies that made the experience more difficult for our family. Students were not allowed to play tag on the playground, school lunches were not provided, and the after-school program was very costly even with scholarship.

The school strongly emphasizes academics and kids are given letter/percentage grades like high schools do. Yes there's pressure but nothing we can't handle so far. My complaints: 1. De-prioritization of physical activity. You have to put your child in an after school club (more money) for dance, bowling, and other movement-based activities. I had the opportunity to volunteer to help with hot lunch once. I learned a lot. Like just how short lunch is; it explained why my daughter was hungry but had uneaten food in her lunch last semester. Volunteering has opened my eyes and I started packing her lunches a little differently 2. It's a charter school so they have to raise money. However, the fundraiser updates in the app are ridiculous. Class vs class, grade vs grade. Everyone hurry and donate before the deadline...use the AZ tax credit...oh the deadline has been extended so you can donate more (no surprise) None of the issues I mentioned are major to me. Why? Because my kindergartener is reading, can read digital and analog clocks, she can add double-digit numbers, etc but her friends who are in 1st and 2nd grade in TUSD schools aren't there yet. The academic advantage Basis provides is unparalleled without attending an expensive private school But there are pros and cons to each school and I've included a couple for potential parents considering the school

My husband and I sent our youngest son to Desert Willow's preschool. I am currently obtaining an…read moreadvanced degree so I'm out of the country quite a bit for the next 2 years. My husband is the primary caregiver while I'm away. Our son had some problems not listening in class and hitting on occasion, neither of which are behaviors we condone. While some of the staff worked with us to correct the problem, there were a few teachers in particular that were difficult to deal and flat out inappropriate. My husband would speak with a particular teacher that dealt well with our son and was making progress. There was nothing inappropriate about their conversations, however, one of the administrators for the program pulled her aside and told her she needed to be aware of how it "looked" with her speaking to my husband while I was out of the country. I trust my husband and I had met and had conversations with this particular teacher so implying there was anything was going on was offensive and uncalled for. I don't believe this was said out of concern for the employee, as the administrator is close friends with two of the other teachers in the same program that my husband and I were having a difficult time dealing with. I can understand when a child has problems and the parent doesn't want to address the situation how that can make it hard for the school, but my husband and I were receptive to anything we could do to make the situation better. It takes discipline on both sides for a toddler to know that bad behavior won't be tolerated at school or at home. I'm not blaming the school for my toddler acting out, but for a parent to acknowledge that there is a problem, ask for help, and then to have one of the few teachers who is willing to assist be removed from the preschool program and placed somewhere else is incredibly frustrating, especially since the majority of my interactions with the Vail School District have been positive. Because we weren't left with any options for teachers that were willing to work with us, we have pulled our son from the program and are taking him to someone we know will take excellent care of him while still addressing any inappropriate behavior.

I couldn't be happier with the wonderful environment where my daughter spends her weekdays. She's…read morebeen attending since she was three months old and is now two. Her teachers take excellent care of her and the other children in her class, she has fun and learns so much every day. This is so much more than just a place where she's safe while her dad and I are at work: it's a nurturing learning environment, with caring teachers who she loves like family, in classrooms with minimum 4:1 ratios. She gets both English and Spanish, is fed healthy meals, given consistent naptimes, and is building real friendships with kids she's known for a long time. Miraculously, it's also less expensive than other places where we'd inquired. I was so lucky to get her in here. We're going to be moving out of state in the coming months, and taking my daughter from CAC is the hardest part of the move. I know we'll probably never find a place as good for her where we're going, and that breaks my heart.

They have to meet really high standards and get surveyed regularly. If I had something negative to say it would be the turnover is a little high in the infant room, but I love so many other things I can overlook this. They teach my son English, Spanish and sign language. The teachers have an education that is associated with child development and they give great advice for how to handle new stages. They support breastfeeding which you can do at the center while visiting your child or bring the breastmilk ready to go. The meals are healthy and diverse and they can work with dietary requirements. Overall, I love this place and know my son is learning in a safe environment when he's there.
