They are understaffed, Ivonne Nochez is a cruel person to her staff and residents, straight up cold. They employ men in the kitchen who harass CNAs, and the CNAs themselves are catty, rude, and unhelpful. One of the LVNs in memory care neglected my grandpa over the weekend until he had to be sent to the ER with septic shock!!! Thank you (I think her name was Christime LVN) for taking notice and sending him to the hospital. You should be ashamed of yourself Ivonne, no wonder your facility got a lawsuit. Look... this is a frustrating time when your loved one needs extra care, but St. Paul's staff made it easy. I wanted my papa at St. Paul's Manor, near Balboa park, when he was more active and mobile. We waited too long, and needed a little more care so we ended up putting papa in Chula Vista at the Luxury St. Paul's Plaza, the age in place facility. What a place! Every level of care, from Independent Living to Assisted Living where a friendly face helps my papa with his day to day activities. Papa just recently needed this elevated level of care because of a fall. He spent some time at the St. Paul's McColls Skilled Nursing facility near Balboa park also. Those nurses are saints, so sweet. Wow, they rehabbed my papa back to his feet and now he's back home at the Plaza. Truly thankful to this organization and their lovely staff. My mom has advanced Alzheimers and stays at St. Paul's Villa. She is difficult and combative at times but the staff there take excellent care of her and communicate with me if there are any needs or problems. They have been kind to her and help her bathe and eat. They dress her and comb her hair. I have the greatest respect for the nursing staff and workers; they're in a very tough job. The programs there are excellent, too, though Mom can no longer participate in most, her caregivers make sure she's at the ones that she can enjoy. I have nothing but good to say about the care there. The place has been recently remodeled and always seems very clean and tidy. If you can afford it, this is a great place for someone with early dementia to stay in a safe environment with wonderful, engaged caregivers and programs. read more

My mom has lived at St. Paul's Manor for over ten years. She absolutely loves it there and has made lots of friends. She's constantly on the go with one activity or another. The staff is truly caring, and the front desk is staffed 24/7 in case of emergencies during off hours. I feel very fortunate that she lives there as it takes a huge burden off me, her grown daughter, since I know she is safe and in good hands. The rent is very reasonable and the food is delicious with many choices at every meal. New people moving in are made to feel very welcome, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend St. Paul's for anyone who would like to be part of a friendly community home. read more

This Review is for the St. Paul's Plaza in Otay lakes area/ Palomar Rd. My sister and I Moved both my patents in the Plaza late Jan '18 my father with early to mid stages of Dementia and my mother as his fully capable caretaker. The Facility is new, beautifully decorated with many amenities. the staff and management a different deal.. The food, well, it's just ok. At best. the kitchen, highly disorganized as they forgot to bring meals to my parents room not once but 5 times in a span of a three weeks. The original director when we arrived now ex-director, by the name of Bryce. Rude, condescending and Lacking every possible management skills one could posses. When Ellen, the CFO. Was tired of complaints she finally fired him. The receptionist, Maria & Bernadette nice to residents, short and not very inviting to visiting family or guests. I'll get to other other staff shortly... Early March my mother had to be hospitalized for three weeks. Upon her discharge she was a little weak and needed some Physical Therapy to regain her full strength. Once she returned to St. Paul's plaza, Cali (not sure of her title) went to their room to "asses" my mothers condition then proceeded to schedule an emergency meeting with me and my sister. Within 2 days of my mother coming back, we were completely blindsided by Cali whom was rude, insensitive and unnecessarily harsh in her communication skills, proceeded to Tell us my mother needed an increase in care services which was incorrect and simply translated to additional revenue for them. Here comes the good stuff.. she proceeded to tell us my father would have to be transferred immediately to memory care facility (onsite) also with additional services because their claim was that my mother was not able to care for my father. All of which is completely false and misdiagnosed. Again, conveniently translated into huge additional revenue collection for them. At the end they wanted over $10k a month based on Cali's incompetent assessment. She proceeded to tell us, short of us complying with their requirements they would place a 24 hr. Nurse for them and charge us accordingly. My mother was beginning to walk, dress, shower, fine on her own without assistance. We were disgusted with their demands and time frames dictated as if we lived in a regime. I told Rhonda the managing director, that we were in complete disagreement with their assesment and demanded an appeal, she said an appeal would take 15-20 days! We explained that separating my father from my mother whom have not been apart for 63 years would put him in shock and be completely traumatized. It would severely jeopardize his mental and physical state. Sadly enough, they didn't care. We were given no Choice but move them literally the next day! The trauma both my parents, my sister and I suffered was immeasurable. The clear and utter incompetence of the facility more specifically, Cali's misdiagnosis was very frustrating! Before Ellen, the CFO places an explanation or an apology to this factual and negative review she should seriously contemplate the people she has working there and as a result thereof, it is as much her fault these events took place as anyone else there. In conclusion, don't let the cross, the kind initial welcoming words and the nice decor fool you. Their bottom line is all about finances and increasing their revenue. If you're thinking this review sounds harsh and exaggerated, we are NOT only ones that have suffered of their incompetence. Do you want to place your loved ones in this type of environment? This is a review for St Paul's Plaza in Otay Lakes, Chula Vista only. I have no experience with the other St. Paul's locations. The facility is beautiful and the staff that assists the residents are just ok. There are only two administration staff members that care. Genesis is wonderful, you can ask for her when you call. The manager, Bryce, is horrible. Rude and condescending. He doesn't listen and he interrupts you when you are trying to state your problems or issues or ask questions. He's a complete control addict and only feels good when he thinks he has the upper hand. The residents were not kind to my mom. She only stayed 21 days and we ended up having to pay about $7000 for those days. She left because another resident hit her and a male resident followed her to her room and proposed to her in one day. He also tried to enter her room after she told him to get away. VERY creepy. I highly advise you do not spend a dime here. read more

This is a review on St Paul's Villa located at 2340 4th Ave, San Diego. This location has had SCABIES OUTBREAK that continues for more than a one year period as of today, 4-15-18. What was once a nice retirement Community for love ones has become a infested, itchy and a miserable place. In the past year the care for residence has drastically declined and I feel horrible for those residence who continue to live there with no other choice. I feel so horrible for my friends loved one who has repeatedly been contaminated because of unhealthy living condition. After numerous suggestions and complaints that seem to fall on deaf ears the situation is no better. All I can recommend to my friend is to stop by on a daily basis to assure their family member is ok and not being ignored.... sad but true. read more

Someday, if my loved ones ever need skilled nursing, assisted living, or Senior Day care, St. Paul's is where I will bring them. You can feel the love immediately from the staff. The services that are offered are similar to other places - but what sets St. Paul's apart is the staff. They genuinely care. It's beautiful to see how each staff person compassionately treats their seniors with dignity, respect, and love. I'd feel content knowing my loved ones were well cared for in an environment that nurtures them and treats them like family. read more

St Paul's Villas gave a proposal to my 89 year old Father that if he donated $100,000.00 they would name their dining room after him. My father is not a rich man. The proposal had different pictures of my Father at various events.Liam Dunfey who presented the proposal to my Father said that he started working their the same day that my Father moved there. They appear to be exerting pressure to obtain money from him and taking advantage of his tendency to brag. Not being able to rationalize my father said he would make the donation. If St Paul's Villas employees did not pressure him, he would never think of making a donation. I hope this review helps other families. read more

My father lives in St. Paul's villa and I go visit him on a regular basis I notice that the CNA's have the worst attitude and that is probably, because they have a huge work load I think one of them said she had 15 seniors to bathe that day and take care of. I feel really bad for the staff there including the Receptionists and wait staff. My father also complains that it's Boring, and they don't have fun activities, and the people that come to sing are horrible! The food is always mostly the same. They are inconsistent with movie nights. The place obviously needs better management!! read more

My mother recently moved into St. Paul's Manor a senior independent living residence. I visited over 10 senior independent living residences before deciding on St. Paul's Manor. My mother is in her late 80's, quite healthy and on the shy side. Although St. Paul's is not the fanciest of the residences I visited it is the place that I found the most heart and true caring and respect for it's residents. The staff have taken a sincere interest in helping both my mother and me in her transition. She did not want to move away from the family home even though she was becoming reclusive and depressed. St. Paul's staff and residents have made a huge positive difference in both of our lives. My mother has a small studio with a tremendous view and more than enough diverse activities to keep her busy and to stimulate her mind and increase her stamina, and the food is good too! I am indebted to St. Paul's for the wonderful environment and care they provide. It is a true community. St. Paul's is a non-profit and very reasonably priced. read more

My mother was at St. Paul's for 2 weeks and then passed. They didn't even call me until she was gone. They knew she was dying and didn't call me. She was bed bound, but they kept telling me that they would get her out of her room. Once she went in, she never saw the light of day. Her last days on earth haunt me - - shouldn't have happened! read more

My mother thoroughly enjoyed St. Paul's Villa Assisted Living for 4 years and I felt happy that she made friends and participated in the activities. When she moved one floor down to the Memory Care Unit, I expected the same. Unfortunately, that is not the case. No one will answer the phone in the nurse's unit, unless nurses from Assisted Living happen to be there. The receptionists become frustrated because no one will answer phones. The CNA's change every few hours and do not communicate ongoing concerns. No one informs me if Mother is ill or hurt, unless a nurse from Assisted Living is there. Mother's clothes are frequently lost (even though they are labeled), her bedding gets lost, she is bathed only twice a week even though I've asked for more frequent showers. Administrators are always making excuses for CNAs not returning calls, losing items, failing to assist with phone calls or hearing aids. Someone is supposed to check on Mother every 3 hours but I've been there for longer periods with no one checking. I'm not sure she is getting enough to eat as her weight has dropped since she's been on the first floor and she is skeletal-looking. I cannot recommend Memory Care at St. Paul's Villa. read more
