It took me a year of me begging them To put grass seeds.... To have some form of elegance to My son's resting place. One of the manger's told me that...... it's going to take a couple of years for grass to grow. Not true. This was me constantly complaining. Until they hired someone to do something. My suggesting is........ always call the office. To get results. Also..... they will throw out your artificial flowers. Even though they are not supposed to...... meanwhile there is leaves from the previous fall laying around. And plastic bags and cups all over. That I have to clean up myself. this review may make me.... The subject to.... Unfair attack from Saint Raymond's.

Honestly I don't really care for this cemetery I have loved ones here but unfortunately they plots aren't maintained well at all. Why is there garbage all over when your visiting. Landscaping is always in disarray. They are constantly removing plastic flowering on plots that we invest for our loved ones. Yet garbage scattered all over yet they call it a clean up. Over the years depending on what part your buried in some areas much better maintained then others.

On 7/4/23 around 3pm was visiting my boyfriend's nephew who was recently buried at St. Raymond's Cemetery when Axel Security Patrol pulled up and the man started harassing us asking us if we saw the sign at the entrance. We told him we always drive in that way so what's the problem. He started getting nasty with us and once we pulled out our phones and started recording him he drove off. A few minutes later he drives by again looking at my license plate and I start recording him again. He could have been civil in explaining why we should not enter that way but he was rude and obnoxious saying: "Do you know who I am?" However all other cars were entering through the same gate and there were also 2 illegal derb bikes racing around the cementery but he said Nothing to them. What has this world come to that we can't even be at peace in the cemetery. WHY would you harrass anyone at their moment of grief in the cemetery???? #axelsecurity #straymondcementery

Communication from management is a joke.. Compassion level is zero and they seem to be experts in miscommunication ..

Personally I have used their services twice and both times was treated with the upmost respect and professionalism. Gloria goes above and beyond to make sure everything goes smoothly. She makes herself available the minute you meet her. She treats you like family. When my aunt passed I went to Gloria and requested services. I explained it was my first time and needed guidance. She stepped right in and told me what needed to be done made suggestions and everything went smoothly and my aunt looked like an angel. I reviewed condolences and complements. Shortly afterward my mother got sick and I knew I would need Gloria's help again. I went to her and again she greeted me warmly and we were able to set everything up. She told me to call her at anytime and not to worry. When the time came around 11:00 pm I made the call. I was expecting to leave a message but to my surprise she answered and remembered me. I was relieved and grateful. Again everything was beautiful and went smoothly. I speak about my experience from time to time and always send people to Porta Coeli. Thank you Gloria for your valuable assistance and most of all for your kindness. God bless you.

The funeral home was clean and had sofas to accommodate extra family members. The location is extremely convenient (right near the 6 train and cross Bronx expressway). The hearse driver was helpful and very nice. I thank them again and would recommend them to anyone

YARI, who btw is a woman who sounds like a man, was fast talking, no warmness, no compassion. I requested a direct cremation for my nephew who died this past Monday with an id viewing for 5 minutes. She gave me the price of like $1800 but warned me that price was for 4 people to view him, she said itd be $250 more for 6 people, but that she had to confirm. She called me back in less than an hour and said the price she gave me is wrong, the real price is $3800!!! As I protested she did her best to cut me off and shut me up. I blew my top!! She very coldly told me that that is the price and if I had a problem with it to call MARTIN the funeral director. I asked her to text me his number and of course, she never did. When I called back, they actually picked up the phone and hung up. My heart sank. I called again and now another female picked up the phone and she was sassy enough to make me want to smack fire out of her. She snarkly gave me Martin's number, and it goes without saying they left me on hold forever when I called. While all of this is happening, my poor brother is acclamating to the idea of having an entire funeral instead of the direct cremation. He was adamant he wanted to use this dump because other family members had been buried with them. So of course I swallowed my pride and called there this morning to apologize to YARI and pay for the funeral that we did not want but were willing to buy for my brother's sake. 9:04 am the next day I called and they told me she was with a client. I told the secretary I wanted to apologize and book an appt. She said Yari would call me back, she never did. By 1030 I asked my husband to call because I just didn't have it in me anymore. He calls and speaks to SHANNON, this "advisor" was even more ignorant and money hungry than the other idiot, Yari. She used words like "fishing" and "feel him out", when addressing the amount and funeral services my other nephew would want for his dead brother. Now my husband blew his top aswell and addressed her lack of professionalism. This place crushed my already broken heart and I will scream it from the mountain tops that Ortiz Funeral Home is garbage!!! Buyer be wary. After all of that, we read the reviews and omgggg, they can't even get loved ones ashes to the correct next of kin. Absolutely deplorable!!!!

Keep in mind that the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak in the Bronx. I understand precaution and maintaining distance, but the funeral director made no prior mention on the phone about their current method of interaction with visitors. To actually put up a notice which states, "No walk-ins", while displaying a disclaimer of the pandemic which so many other essential businesses are doing, would have been sensible in order to notify visitors to not step foot into the funeral home and the reason why. I mean, you can't get more specific than that. Considering the doors are white, it would have been easy to see. But I checked a total of four times and I found nothing. Regardless of the guidelines on the news concerning funeral homes, that didn't change the fact that a notice should've been up outside. Now regarding the price for a cremation, which my mother requested for my father, the amount was almost $3,000. Two words: price gouge. As my mother and I were leaving, a woman, who works there and who had a nasty attitude, blocked the entrance. Like, seriously? This is where a notice would have sufficed so they wouldn't have to create their own little makeshift barricade with two vases and a table. I laughed for a good minute after I saw it. Or perhaps they should have just kept the door closed. Also, they should have kept themselves seated at the window where they talked to their visitors. But personally, I refuse to conduct business and do transactions that way as if it's a walk-up window at a fast food joint. That was our first and last time at this funeral home. If I could give them no stars, I would.

Then in 2019 when my uncle passed we went back thinking we'd get the same quality service we received before, boy was I wrong. The moment we walked in we were met by pure ratchetness. I requested a change of casket since the one my cousin chose wasn't up to par and I was told it couldn't be done bc allegedly the body was already in the casket which I suspect wasn't true. Finally the morning of the burial they were over an hour late to pick him up and go to the cemetery. No reason given just kept telling us they were on the way. From the start they were compassionate, gentle and kind. There was no attempt made to upsell their services. They quickly took possession of my brother before I arrived in New York and it was a comfort to my family that he was no longer in the city morgue while I flew out to NY. They made the entire process of his wake and cremation as simple and gentle as possible. Mr. Lee was the one who prepared my brother for viewing. Mr. Lee is an artistic genius, due to throat cancer my brother did not look as he once did but Mr. Lee worked a miracle and despite the circumstances of his death my brother looked as if he had just settled down for a nap on my sofa. I half expected his ankles to be crossed as was his habit in life. While searching for a funeral home I found out that the one my family traditionally used was having legal issues over quality and was forced to look elsewhere to arrange funeral services. I'd contacted several funeral homes before deciding to go with FAS due to their location and was surprised to find that they were the least expensive out of all the funeral homes I'd contacted. They were budget friendly without being skimpy. Located in an area with several funeral homes, they are small, not so flashy and easily overlooked but they provide wonderful service and are kind and compassionate. I highly recommend them and will use them again should the need arise.
