This university does not adequately care for its student-athletes. They recruit high school basketball players to join the "Development Team" without clearly disclosing that there will be well over 90 athletes on the roster. Ridiculous! It is highly unethical to mislead 18-year-old students who believe they are joining a program where they can meaningfully develop their skills and realistically advance to the varsity team. The men's Developmental Basketball Team does not even hold consistent practices! STU appears to use these athletes primarily for their financial aid dollars, since most athletic scholarships do not cover the full cost of attendance. The coaches show little regard for the team and have even stated during practice that they do not care about the Dev Team. This school absolutely sucks, there is mold in the dorms (very bad in villanova) the Ac breaks twice a month, they random shut off the hot water in the showers, student leave trash on residential halls, maintenance takes weeks to come fix anything. Public safety does not do their job, multiple issues have been reported such as, bullying, harassment, and recording in private areas without consent, people trashing the halls, do not take action on reports made. The food is horrible in the cafe. Auditons, Starbucks, and the bowling alley are expensive ($18 for a burger and fries). This school also steals money from student by adding hidden fees and random fines to your account without informing you. The professor's here are hit or miss, there are some are truly some amazing professors here that go above and there are some that do not put in grades, cancel class often, are not attentive to emails, and are hard to get in contact with. This university is an absolute joke. Their graduate programs are disorganized, and so are the professors. The program changes from day to day. Sometimes, only one person a class. One counselor, in particular, tries to exert power over the students by attempting to change an "A" academic standing to a "C" claiming violation of university policy without merrit. The students are teaching the professors, and these degenerates are trying to take credit for the students' hard work. It appears from a review of some of the cohorts' teamwork that they have learned, nothing. While the hard-working students are fighting for a fair grade. This university should be sued for unfair business practices and using false positive AI software that mistakenly flags student's hard work as cheating. Top universities like Vanderbilt, Michigan State, and Texas at Austin have turned off AI software because of the inaccuracies (https://www.bloomberg.com). Perhaps you can develop real academic programs, hire qualified professors to assess the student's academic capabilities based on their true academic achievements and invest in a decent AI program like SafeAssign, so this university will save itself from a lawsuit. BTW, the application process is a nightmare, and information is non-existent. You can only retrieve information if you send a scathing email to the so-called dean. read more

Having come from Miami Dade I was scared that offices such as Financial Aid weren't going to be as helpful. However, I was proved wrong. I have been satisfied with the attention I have received here. Here you are a name, and that really makes a difference. You end up having your classes with the same professors and the same students which could make it or break it. It's really up to you. I haven't tried the cafeteria food this semester but it always smells amazing when you walk past. Your education is what you make of it, honestly. The buildings are a tad outdated. Any catholic school I've been is like that. Having spent most of my life in Catholic institutions, St Thomas feels like a home away from home. read more

St. Thomas University has held my transcripts hostage for the last two years. This means I can't attend a new University and I can't seem to get anyone there to resolve it. I was attending STU for about a year and a half and was midway through spring semester when I got a call my mother was sick. I immediately flew home to be with her and I thought I properly withdrew from school at the time. Then I started to get a large bill in the mail. I had financial aid so I figured it was a mistake. I asked repeatedly how I could owe STU almost $3000 and to this day have no clear answer. I've even asked if I could make payments on it to get it resolved (assuming blame that I should be) and no one can answer that either but every time I try to get my transcripts their system says I'm blocked for an unpaid bill. This is completely unfair and irresponsible for an institution of higher education that advertises themselves on NPR as a serious option for online learning. If you are considering STU I'd be very careful for this kind of practice. It is only fair that if there is a bill I get a full explanation of what it's for or it gets removed from my account. Either way no University should ever have the ability to block a student's transcripts from being released to another institution. read more

Biggest regret of my life coming here. The quality of education here from my experience as a freshman is not worth the thousands of dollars I'm paying. Financial aid office is a joke, they only have 3 workers and 50 students waiting in line for problems that take about 5 mins to solve. I played football here and lost my love for it here. On my visit here they lied about a clinic being on campus, its just a vacant building that says clinic. The food is okay and points system is nice but does not make up for anything. I live in Sullivan 2nd floor and have mold in my AC and there is also mold in the bathrooms, the showers have mold, only 2 sinks work out of 6, and none of the soap dispensers dispense soap. Some of the residents don't have any home training. I've gotten very sick about 5 times here. To throw up in the bathroom not getting cleaned for days to intruders and robbers on campus no school compares to the STU. This doesn't even start about my experience here. this school is horrible, we have had an ongoing roommate situation with a girl who has made my daughter's living situation hell since she moved in, she reported her and this girl has even gotten removed from class because of her disrespect to a professor. they did nothing, my daughter was attacked by this girl tonight the ra on duty did not care and sounded annoyed when i called for help, i had to also call security the police came and they told my daughter she would have to go to the state attourney to file charges... i had to arrange for her friend to come to get her and am removing her. the room is disgusting the girl hasn't even paid her tuition from what i've heard and she is not being reprimanded or punished in any way my daughter is 19 and this girl is 21. st thomas sucks do not send your kid here read more

Honestly I'm a current student here and i learned the hard way that doing your research on a college is extremely important. First this school doesn't care about the students at all they're just looking for a quick buck to make. For inference, instead of creating more dorms or enroll less Students until they figure out the dorm situations they decided to cram 3 people last minute in a little ass room and raised the dorm prices on top of that and the dorms aren't individual rooms it's one solid room and three people sleeping next to each other on top of that the rooms have mold. They could have even found apartments off campus and created that on the list as off campus housing. Also the building I'm in only comes with two washers and two dryers on both floors for 100 plus students including the dorms that doesn't have a laundry room They're extremely expensive and don't even offer anything for real. Also regarding back to them not caring about their students if you have a balance due they tell you three days in advance to come up with the money like money just grows on trees to pay or they'll drop your classes and now you have to repay to get your classes back on top of the payment that was already due. If I could give 0 stars I would. The only positive note about the school is that the classes were easy its just about being disciplined enough to do the work but other than that very easy to pass and I did make the best of my experience here because of the people I met but after this semester I'm leaving 4/10 do not recommend read more

I graduated from STU in 2005, and actually enjoyed my undergraduate studies. The university is a private Catholic institution that offers a chapel and mass for students. The staff had always been friendly and supportive. The professors were great and knowledgeable. Because it was a smaller university you will find yourself having the same professors for a multiple amount of classes. This could be a pro or a con. I found myself wanting different professors because each one gave me a different point of view but you don't get that level of attention or rapport that you would unless you do deal with the same professors. This is useful when it comes to future recommendations and professional references. It felt like a tight knit community. I found myself having studying groups outside of the building, hanging out having coffee or having a bite to eat at the cafeteria by the Law school or at the Rathskellar Snack Bar. I made great friends that were mostly from the Caribbean. It was a nice experience that I longed for in another universities. You didn't feel like just another nbr. read more

I am in utter shock that they run this university as they do. The financial aid department and business department do not communicate with each other semester after semester. You go from having a credit to owing the school near $10,000 a year later. Not to mention given a day's notice to get of the dorms because there was an error on your award package (6 months later). I think they communicate via carrier pigeon. Once you leave the school, you cannot rectify any "balance" because no one knows the amount and good luck reaching anyone, so good luck getting your transcripts.
