Covid Review # 75
I happened upon an outdoor service, after exiting the nail place on a Saturday. I didn't stay long, since there is no obligation to attend Mass on Saturday and not my regular church.
But a few things I noticed.
Kudos for the effort and continuing to hold mass. They had a ton of tents up which will perfect folks from the sun and the rain. That's great that they're working to continue the Sacraments.
I think they could improve if the priest was teaching folks that they can show more reverence for Christ by making an effort to at least dress as if the King of Kings and Lord of Lord's were truly present in the altar. It's the beginning of the church year and folks are to make more effort and sacrifice to give God greater glory during this time. But, there were lots of folks in casual attire, like they were just going to the grocery store. Perhaps because it's outside or a Saturday, that they aren't wearing their "Sunday Best" for their King? At my church we still make an effort to dress for Our Lord even if we're outside.
I also found it strange that none of the women covered their heads while they prayed. At my Catholic church men take their hats off when they pray and women cover their heads when they pray.
Also strange that the priest didn't read the Word of God every time and had lay people fill in the role as Lector. Being a Lector is a step to the priesthood, but the Lector didn't look like he was in seminary or a priest.
So, this church said it was Catholic, but it was very similar to a Protestant Lutheran service that I saw on Youtube, nothing like the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that I attend.
Also a bit Protestant in that there were no Holy images, statues, or even a crucifix to be seen. It's possible they were there, but I didn't see anything. And there was a lady behind the altar on the balcony above. It was just a little weird. read more
