TL;DR - A great thrift store to work into your sustainable shopping rotation, with great selection at great prices. Many thrifters will agree that the bigger chain thrift stores are getting a bit big for their britches in regards to pricing - Goodwill, Salvation Army, Savers...all of them have started to price many items unreasonably, charging prices for pre-owned items that you would expect for brand new. Part of the appeal of thrifting has always been that if you're willing to do the work of picking through things, taking your valuable time and effort to find whatever amounts to a diamond in the rough for you, you get that item for a steal. I'm happy to say that the St Vincent's Discount Store still adheres to the old model of thinking - prices here are low enough to feel like you're getting your treasures for a deal. What's more, the shop in its current iteration is clean and well organized in comparison to many of the bigger secondhand brands. No creepy musty smell like you're confronted with half the time at Salvation Army. What will you find here - perhaps the better question is what won't you find here? Sizeable selection of clothing, that on average seems to be better quality than you might encounter at other thrift stores. I would especially go here if you're building your businesswear collection and are open to some vintage pieces. Other than that, lots and lots of homewares. If you're stocking a kitchen in your new apartment or home, come here and peruse the full sets of dishes and glassware available. Lots of cute knick knacks, decor items, vases, etc. A furniture room in the back with chairs, couches, dining sets, etc. Your standard selection of books and some toys for kids. All at very reasonable prices. I'll certainly come back on occasion to see what's rotated through!

The prices are higher than I'd like for a thrift shop but if you get lucky with the price tag colors then sometimes there are good deals. Stickers are extremely sticky and are put on things regardless of whether it will damage them or not, so be aware that this stuff is a pain to get off if you are looking for collectibles. Parking lot is large and easy to access. Staff is generally friendly and helpful... if you can find them. There is not always someone at the register and the method they have of checking people out seems purposely designed to be the most inefficient and awkward setup possible. Not the staff's fault, but can management consider a re-design of the check-out area? Overall decent store and I love that it supports the veterans. They always ask if I want to round up my purchase as a donation and yes, I do. Great cause and good treasure hunting spot.

It is located within the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Wadsworth and Pennsylvania. The entrance is on Wadsworth, but there is parking available via a driveway on Pennsylvania. Additionally, there is handicap access available. If needed, call from the parking lot and one of the volunteers will come to escort you to the code-required elevator. Okay. Now that we know where Serendipity can be found, what can we expect within? At least one serendipitous find. For instance, last Saturday my daughter, just prior to attending a graduation party, found a graduation card there, obviating the need to stop again to buy a card. That could not have been more serendipitous. Okay, okay. Imagine a thrift store and an antique store got married and had a baby. Serendipity? But, of course. You won't find clothing, as a rule. Not saying never, but Amvets and Buffalo City Mission have clothes. At Serendipity you will find collectibles of myriad types, books, jewelry, lamps, dinnerware, pottery, home décor, eclectic gifts. Perhaps a hat. Possibly a shawl. Books are nicely shelved and categorized. Every other thrift store I have been in could take a lesson. I had planned to return and take some interior photos before reviewing; seeing as the location seemed to be in question from past reviews, however, I decided to post now, make the location clear, and return at some later date with more photos. The address above is correct: One Symphony circle. Phone 716-248-0232. ALL proceeds benefit people living with HIV/AIDS. Donations are always welcome -- saleable items, as well as cash. The charity is The Aids Plus Fund of WNY, a 501c non-profit. On Facebook, look for Serendipity Thrift Shoppe. Several photos there, too. And they do accept credit and debit cards, as well as cash.

None of the workers talked to us until we asked them a question and then they offered us their thoughts on our outfits and was much more visible and approachable. There's a really good selection here. The men's section is pretty much two-three racks. Which was disappointing. There's a ton of quality options and even better when you come during one of their sales. Came during their pink and blue sale. 50% and 30% off of their clothes. There's boots, hats, jeans, dresses, jumpers, night gowns, slits, lingerie, jackets, jewlery and more. A lot of cute things. There's about 5 different rooms for you wander around. Fitting room is in the back of the store. There's 4 I believe. There wasn't a great range of sizes. The entrance is hidden however. You need to walk down a semi ally to get to the store. I didn't see any signs on the street. There was a small rack of clothes on the sideway which let me know that I was in the right area. Parking is on the street. Depending on the time of day, it could be easy or you'll be walking a few blocks. If you're parking on the main street, make sure you pay for parking during the week because parking enforcement are always around.

This trendy label appeals to the younger, fashion-conscious, crowd. And then scattered throughout the store, especially in the back, there are styles that look a bit dated and ordinary. There are some high-price designer items as well. I think their jewelry section is rather blah. I've never bought jewelry from them. All sorts of used handbags and practically new shoes. Both my teenage daughter and I have bought clothes from here. Something for everyone. What I like about consigning my gently used clothes with this business is that they itemize the clothing that you give them. When the consignment period is over in 3 months, you know exactly which item sold and how much money you will get for it. Unlike another consignment store in the area that just gives you a number for your items and never tells you exactly what sold. Becomes a mystery. And then you have to hunt all over the place to find your items that didn't sell if you want them back. But here, I ask for items that don't sell back and they keep them for me to pick up within a window of time. They take appointments on their website for consigning your things the first few days of the month only. It's very organized and I appreciate that. They may not take many of the items you hope to consign. But at least they're honest and organized.

I don't normally consider myself a thrifter, but I found this store well-organized by style and size and a mix of trendy and classic selections. The staff is very friendly and helpful! The price tags are different colors and the staff, and signs all over the store will tell you which color tags are on sale and what percentage off. The staff can also help you find things, or find similar items if you like something that doesn't fit. They have ample, clean fitting rooms. They will let you know if something looks good on ya! They have a reward program and I don't remember the exact details but I think it's 1 point per dollar spent and at some number of rewards points you get $5 or $10 off. The Williamsville location only carries ladies clothing but the Elmwood location has some men's selections. I think the only thing I didn't like was when I find something I love but it's not in my size, but the bright side is you can go home and try to find it by searching online. After my visit here, I left with 2 items and hunted down 2 other items I loved but were the wrong size online. It's also a fun place to experiment with styles you may not usually wear. Consignment is by appt only so go to their website to set up a date and time for them to go through your items. There is no pressure to buy and it's a very comfortable shopping environment (I took forever in there to be honest). So come have a look! You never know what you may find.
