This was my first time at an AmVets. It's pretty similar to other large thrift stores I've been to...but a little better. The aisles are nicely spaced, so you don't feel crowded or rushed. Everything was pretty well organized and fairly tidy for a thrift store. It was a Sunday and there weren't very many customers. They have a massive amount of clothing, but this time we were there for housewares and whatever else fun we could find for our apartment. The dish and glassware section is quite large and I'll need to go back with a specific plan to make proper use of it. Until then, I found a few things we still needed (having recently relocated from across the country with only a sedan full of stuff)... -2 quart Revere Ware saucepan for $6.98, lightweight and durable. -Pyrex measuring cup for $2.49. -white glass bud vase for 49 cents. -old aluminum ice trays to use in desk organizing for 99 cents. I will say, some of the pricing seems a little off. And unfortunately, a cute little ceramic dish I had found didn't make it into my bag at checkout. Overall, I was pretty happy with the store and will definitely be going back with a plan and more time. They have a location closer to me that I'll be checking out soon, too. read more

I'm continuing my quest to find mismatched flowered plates for an outdoor wedding reception. I was also in search for a dress to be used at a murder mystery event I'll be attending. This all led me to AmVets. The store is huge and fairly well organized. Their housewares section is much larger than a lot of other thrift stores. For my shopping today I hit the jackpot and found 8 different plates. I also found a dress that I can use and it was only $5.00! Very successful shopping trip. read more

Was in the area and meandered in here as I've never been. Ample parking. Large store, very spacious and organized. Most clothing items range from a couple bucks to $10. Clothing items that are new with tags typically are 50-80% off of the original price tag. There's a large selection of clothes, decent condition furniture and many knick knacks and kitchen items along the back wall. Always down for a treasure hunt. Also received a $4 off $15 coupon with receipt to be used within 10 days at all amvets locations excluding that same day. Will definitely keep this store in mind in the future. read more

My husband and I had a garage sale and planned to donate everything that didn't sell. When my husband called for a pickup, he was told that they don't come out to our town. This AmVets is kept very neat, tidy and clean. I appreciate how brightly lit is too. It makes everything feel shiny and exciting. Everything felt well organized and maintained. Props to the staff for their diligence. This store now has a special place in my heart after this weekend's purchase in which my husband was positively gleeful after he found a Hawaiian-print love seat for $16. Everyone was really nice about helping us load it onto our little car, and it was endearing to have other customers even offer to help us lift it. Having found such a unique piece I will be checking this location more often when searching for furniture. The clothes and shoes are decent quality, sorted by size into the typical categories. I didn't find anything for myself on my most recent visit but I liked what I saw. I thought the styling on the mannequins in particular was great and inspiring. I will make a note, the parking lot is a wee bit wonky so drive slow going into the place. It's tight and curved. read more

Golf clubs for $3? Sold! Most know Amvets and this location isn't much different than their other thrift stores. Lots of clothes, furniture...and specifically --- golf clubs! I needed a putter for an event I was putting on and Amvets did not fail me. $3!!! This location is on Walden Ave pretty close to the Galeria Mall. The staff was nice and they accepted credit cards. I'll definitely be looking for Amvets next time I'm thrift shopping. read more

Large thrift store with a big variety of basically everything. Clothing is organized by type then size, however I found numerous items that were in the wrong spot. I also came across a few items with stains but not many. Most of the clothes were good quality and cheap. They also run sales based on tag color and day of the week. They have a much larger selection of home goods compared to other thrift stores in the area, at great prices too. Although I didn't find what I came in for, there were many things I wanted to buy since they were in good condition and priced right. The door to the back room was open, and they have so many donations back there that they probably couldn't fit everything into the store itself. Bonus points for their business mission statements. Amvets helps retired Vetrans and their families through programs and job opportunities. You seriously can't go wrong with that. If you're looking to donate old clothes, don't take them to Goodwill or Salvation Army. BRING THEM HERE!! (You can also request a receipt for tax returns!) Amvets is pretty massive, and has a really good variety of clothes for men, women, and kids. On the back wall they've got an assortment of junky stuff, as well as purses and handbags. There's also a huge rack of shoes here (though I'm always a little iffy about buying thrift store shoes), as well as a small area toward the back corner of the store that carries furniture and appliances. The clothes are always very organized - they group all the dresses, jeans, short sleeve/long sleeve shirts, blouses, and coats/blazers on clearly labeled racks which makes it easy to find whatever it is you might be looking for! This place is always the first shop I go to whenever I'm looking for clothes that I could use for a Halloween costume/dressing up, and...okay, I've bought skirts and your obvious thrift shop outfit here. And I've worn them in public. I'm basically like Macklemore. I love all of the stuff I've been able to find here, like a pencil skirt needed for a concert, nerdy checkered print pants, a gorgeously semi-ugly floral romper, and a 80's-esque Hawaiian robe that I wear all the time. Prices here are always pretty fair. They have color tag sales every day, which will usually offer 25%-50% off. I really can walk out with a shopping cart of stuff, spending only around $20 if I wanted to. read more

Such great finds! I love thrift shopping, I especially love the Amvets Thrift Store Locations, this one and the other one I've been to have been spacious with lots of varieties and many many rows of everything. They stock clothing, furniture, kids toys, glassware, household utensils and appliances, tons and tons of books and VCR tapes. I come here particularly for their glassware or little tiny ramekins they have. I work at a family owned business, and I love finding unique sized glasswares to hold some of my specialty drinks! I also don't feel too bad if I break it since their normally under $2. I've also found great kitchen items! I definitely recommend coming here when you have time to browse the entire store. The store has fair prices. It could be cleaner. Lots of variety. Unlike Savers they have fitting rooms.

In the afternoon, you would want to take your sick animals to PM Vets, rather than here. But if it's morning time and your pet is sick, by all means bring them along to AM Vets! They will give them a nice little rabies shot and neuter them and you'll be good to go! Ouch. Personal experience: This is one of the 2 charity shops I come to very regularly. It's my second favourite. It's full of fantastic shirts for men that would usually cost you a ton. The prices are excellent and the service is okay. I've been here at least 20 times. Amvets is an awesome charity shop. It's full of really nice clothes, the prices are a lower than the Thrift store across the street, and you can find some real gems in here, as well as lots of really good and cheap music. It's huge, and it's about out of the way on Walden by Dick Road, so maybe for that reason not many people come out here. I highly recommend it. read more

7 years ago I was able to find a dress here for prom under $30! Flashforward to today. It has a large selection of items from new to old. I always check out their selection of pants and dresses. I tend to find some great event dresses at this location. Each day is a different color tag - 25% off one color, 50% off another. I love to skim through their housewares collection because of the glasses they have and other novelty items. Past finds from this location: Nike Pro Running Tights, Coach handbags, Burberry coat (authentic!), much college apparel, Tony Walker & Co. branded items, lots of dresses, sports gear (they have some killer Bills gear - you just have to be there at the right time), and suit jackets. The rewards system is clutch too - as an educator, it can be difficult to find affordable workwear and other such items for low prices - here I can find them, earn points, AND save $$! read more

I live in America, so I don't have the patience to look through things to get the best deal. For this reason, I usually avoid thrift stores. However, last week I found myself in this area with about 20 minutes to kill before my dinner reservation so I stopped in here to check it out. I was really surprised at what I found. Everything was neat and organized. The racks were all clearly marked by type of item and they were organized by size. I was able to find 3 skirts for 4 bucks each, try them on and purchase them within 20 minutes. I would definitely go back to this location. I really liked that I could get cool items at a good price without having to fight with things falling off of hangers. The staff was super nice and checked me out quickly. read more

Stopped by this store today just after 1 pm and got the most discourteous unwelcome to this store. my husband went ahead of me and I navigated the piles of snow and stopped to look at wall pictures throug the window. I saw him talking to a man outside the door and thought it was a beggar. To my surprise it was the manager lay waiting me and blurted to me "ma'am can you leave your bag in your car?" I asked what do you mean and he replied "you can't come in here with that" so I asked why? and he said "your bag is too big, and I have to ensure you don't put anything in your bag." I had a normal pocketbook so I told him I am not doing that, it's my bag so he said put it in your trunk nobody will know it's in there. I told him nobody tells me what to do and I hadn't been in the door yet. He said "well I,am going to follow you around and he did. We were going to the furniture section and he did came and took a seat watching me. I turned around took his photo and walked out, I couldn't spend my hard earned cash in a discriminatory enterprise. I am African American just moved to Western New York three weeks now, what a disgusting place and I don't care what policies they have. To think that he is a black man being a stupid puppet for whoever is his boss. I made him know we are not thieves but hardworking people with integrity. While he followed me and sat down, white people came in the store and he wasn't at the door telling them to leave their pocketbookd in their cars. This manager has no training, doesn't know customer service or how to make repeat customers. A word of advice to Amvets on Walden Ave, invest in cameras if you have shoplifting problem. If I have to steal then my God, Jehovah Jireh cannot provide for me, and I know my God is not broke. That's the manager watching me spending one minute or less in the furniture department. In retrospect I shouldn't have entered the store based on his stereotyping us from the outside of the store. While this so called manager was outside discriminating against us, did he think the customers in the store both black and white could have been stealing but he had time to meet us outside to dish his unmanagerial trash on us? As a manager, I could give you tips on how to manage your store, make profits and maintain a good relationship with your customers. Shame on you Amvets Thrift Store. This is my least favorite of the three Buffalo-area Amvets stores. Service/ambiance - I've never been super impressed with the service compared to the city location; you occasionally get a nice person but usually it's depressed, angsty kids who won't even say hi running the registers. The store is decently clean and doesn't look like 1975. Dressing rooms need a little work but that's almost every thrift store, just due to the nature of the establishment. On the upside the outside of this store is better taken care of than the city location, the space around it is somewhat manicured and the parking lot is decently taken care of. Selection : While they have decent bric-a-brac and a really good selection of children's clothes and furniture, the rest of their selection is usually not very good - this is shocking for how huge the store is. It is a very picked over location and I think the quality of what is getting donated in this area just isn't that good to begin with. 70% of the time I find something that I want it is ripped or stained when I inspect it, and that is the only reason it is still on the rack. I occasionally find a few decent women's wear items, but the men's selection is especially horrible. If you want a wolf shirt with the sleeves cut off this is the place. Their shoes are probably the worst of almost any thrift store I can think of in the area, except maybe Goodwill on Delaware. Furniture, as stated, is a big plus here (got a 50's headboard with built in "cabinets" for $3) and I usually come to look at that more than anything. You can combo pack this with the dirt mall (Super Flea) for a day of pwt shopping extraordinaire. read more

AMVETS Rt. 24 Delaware Would have given a higher score but RED MARKING the actual clothing with the RED PRICE on the back of the collar is ludicrous. I found possibly 8 things I would have bought but because of that NO WAY. I thought how great would this be if I were on a date and laid my jacket on the back of the chair...In red permanent marker it said -25.00? -10.00? Embarrassing. Not to mention they do it and a couple shirts had the marker bleeding through the actual shirt. A brand new shirt that I suppose they were worried someone was going to remove the tags, is completely ruined. How does that make sense. It's a shame because I easily would have dropped $300.00 and walked out shaking my head. This store has only been open a few months and I was looking forward to the opening. I hope they figure another way to tag there clothing. Nothing better then letting people know "Hey see this great leather jacket? I paid $25.00 for it and got it at the local thrift store!" This was I believe the first trip into this place! Three stars might be a bit harsh because we had a blast checking things out and the pricing was great. However, I really didn't find that much. A couple dog toys, a LS Shirt for the grandson, and who else knows - we had more fun trying on clothes and taking pictures then we did anything else. The store is huge - the only staff member we talked to was the guy that cashed us out and he certainly was pleasant enough - with his batman huge pin that he wouldn't give up :) However, the store was decently organized and certainly worth another stop! read more

Veteran Supporters! I can't say enough about Amvets Thrift Store! This is the one down the road from the Galleria so I pretend I'm going to the Galleria but I go here and save money. There store's a little messy right now, but there prices aren't! They have more then other thrift stores, but they dont organize cloths by color so those can be harder to browse but there's more. They have cloths and book's and toys and nick nacks and furniture and records and old binders. I just found a nutcracker that is so awesome a lady stopped me to say how awesome it was and I bought it for $3! Now that's a deal. Barely used. Gramma buys alot of her cloths here, but I don't let her buy her underwear here because thats kind of creepy. Best for fancy dresses, furniture, and weird finds. PROS: Lots of cool cheap stuff. CONS: They shouldn't put so much on a rack because you cant browse and board games should be kept away from the kids'. read more

So after the recent thrift store thread I decided to stop in here on my lunch break just to check it out. Now I normally don't go to thrift stores as I had the impression of them being dirty, smelly and completely unorganized. Totally not the case here. It's big and clean, and most things seem to be arranged and ordered relatively well. While I didn't have a lot of time to look things over completely. I'll say I found two really nice ties, one hand-made, for $2 each. Definitely going to come back when I have more time to explore. read more

This is one of my favorite locations in Buffalo to go thrifting. HUGE store and a place you need to frequent often as they are always busy and always getting new stuff in. If you find something you like, you better snatch it up quick otherwise it will be gone; trust me. Amazing furniture selection if that's what you're in to. I find that different locations have better stock in certain sections. So the dresses, coats and furniture here are always good to go through. But, make sure you have time, because you can kill an hour or two just digging through racks and racks of timeless and not so timeless items. Don't forget student discount day is on Tuesday and Mondays is pretty busy with the Seniors! read more

Large thrift store with lots of nice clothes. They must go through everything they receive as I didn't see any ripped or stained clothes. The store isn't very clean or organized, but all of the clothes I found look new or almost new. I found a new shirt from NY&Co with the $45 tag on it for only 5 bucks! Well I say every thrift store should get around 3 stars because they are all pretty much the same. But this one should be called Amvets Clothing Thrift Store because all there prettying is clothes, clothes and clothes!! Of course there are other items there but it's not often that you find something useful IMO. Right when you walk in, you will smell musty clothes like crazy, and sometimes I can't stand it. Usually when I walk in any thrift store, I never buy anything anyways. But all in all this is just another stinky thrift store. read more

OMG Shop, find "huge" bargains, then fumigate, exterminate. Since July3,12 my " "wonderful " furniture, 2 stuffed chairs and the large entertainment center was all I needed to restart my life. This $92.00 purchase has become a $500.00 nightmare and still climbing. Don't bother to complain to AMVETS or the national headquarters, although after 5 days of ranting they did come and remove the infested junk. In the meantime my truly wonderful apt, new carpet, fresh paint became a living hell. This is not random because the furniture was not together in the store but scattered about the furniture section. PLEASE DO NOT EVEN GO IN THAT STORE. I've been treated at the ER on7/11 diagnosed and prescribed Permethrin Creme for delousing head to toe-not once but once a week for 2 weeks. These costs are not included in the a for mentioned costs. Still have to launder all clothing and cloth in hot water and hot dryer, so add this coming week at the laundry and weeks to re clean every inch of my once 'perfect" apt. read more

NO customer appreciation at all what-so-ever. I don't know if I'm more upset at the unenthused girl at the checkout or the lazy uninterested manager sitting in the back. It's so disappointing because if always wanted to go to this massive Amvets and I finally had time. Having never been there I didn't know they had no public restroom. I had come from a 9 hour shift from work and didn't think to stop somewhere knowing it would give me less time to look at all the stuff! I politely asked the girl at the counter if I could use the restroom because there isn't really anywhere walking distance to go and the snow is crazy outside. She said let me ask my manager, she called for him over the intercom to come to the front and he called back almost instantly asking what was needed. The girl said a customer needs to use the bathroom. He immediately responded with there are no public restrooms which she repeated to me. She didn't explain anything to him about me not knowing or the winter conditions or anything... Making me feel like some homeless person begging from off the street. I has to drive a mile or so away to KFC and use the bathroom. There's not even anything close to go to! The disrespect from these people repulsed me enough to honestly say I will never go back to this establishment and am upset that I wasted my time there in the first place. read more
