I had an appointment for dental work for my two cats, but had to cancel due to lack of funds (I'm a senior on a fixed income). I waited until three days before to cancel, because I was expecting a check in the mail to cover the expenses; but when it didn't arrive, I had to cancel. I called on a Saturday, as their website says they are open some Saturdays, but only got voicemail. So I left a message to cancel. But then I called Monday morning (the day before the Tuesday appointment date) to follow-up, I was told that they didn't check their Saturday messages, and there would be a cancellation fee. Weeks later, I received an invoice for $390: one $195 cancellation fee per each cat. I was outraged, as I had never been warned me of their cancellation policy when I made the appointments, and they wouldn't allow for me trying to contact them on a Saturday when their website said they could have been open. I then hand-delivered a letter to their office stating my outrage, and that they had lost a client. Now three weeks later, I still have no response. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Still amazing. A few years ago they helped us figure out what was happening with our poor pup Oliver's digestive issues and they got him on a maintenance plan that, combined with a new prescription food, probiotic, and monthly B-12 injections, has him back to normal (when before this we were at the emergency vet practically every weekend with severe stomach upset). I can't say how grateful I am for the care they showed our boy when he was at his worst. But I also love the care they show when they're at their best. We're here once a month for his quick B-12 booster and they're always so pleasant and happy to see us. Even when we're just in and out. He loves going there even if he's getting poked! New COVID precautions mean I don't get to see my favorite folks in there in person but chatting on the phone to set up the appointments, tell them what prescription items we may need, and paying is a breeze and they're just as friendly. Appointments themselves are careful and safe. For regular appointments, owners stay in their cars and the pets are the only ones allowed in. You pull up to the parking lot, call them to let them know we're there, and they send someone out to grab your pet. You wait in the car and then after they bring them back out to you. Easy peasy. Our appointments are quick injections with the techs here so we don't need any follow up, but I did see one of the docs come out to speak to another patient's owners during their appointment, all masked up and from a safe distance. I'm grateful for the care they take in multiple ways. Thanks, Affordable Vet Services for being someone we can rely on. NOTE: Right now appointments for yearly check ups and non emergency procedures are weeks/months out. I have been with Stadium Veterinary for a little over a month now and have been impressed by the care, expertise, and knowledge Dr. Vancouver and her staff have given my two geriatric dachshunds. I have been to a few places in the area (Banfield, Dexter Animal Clinic, and most recently South Arbor Animal Hospital) and Stadium Vets have by far been the best and most professional. I took my dogs for a regular check up with a few issues (eye redness and Urinary accidents). With careful diagnosis Dr. Vancouver was able to find the underlying problems with each dog and work with me to find a healthy and cost-effective solutions Most important, Dr. Vancouver explained everything in great detail and sent me home with medication instruction and further reading. She also took time to get to know my concerns and price barriers. After going to South Arbor for almost two years, eye problems were solved and my concerns were listened to. (The South Arbor owner also wouldn't honor prices listed in her website - which was both weird and h professional). I'm very happy I switched to Stadium for my veterinary care. My elderly cat sees Dr. Maddie. My cat has multiple chronic problems including kidney and thyroid disease. He's getting up there in years and also has a cardiac issue. I have been so impressed with the time Dr. Maddie gives to me and my cat. When she calls to discuss the blood work results, she will talk to me for 20 minutes or as long as I need. I never feel rushed, and can ask all the questions I have about how to take the best care of my cat. I would strongly recommend this vet to anyone. The techs and the whole team are very kind. Very occasionally -since they are popular- billing might take another 15 or 20 minutes but I understand because they are really swamped sometimes and there's only one receptionist. read more

Our dog, Petey, has been a patient here since July 2022. Petey was diagnosed with diabetes in May with two trips to the emergency vet. We have been so happy with his progress and care at Stadium with Dr. Maddie. She goes over everything and is very thorough. I'm supposing that the staff here are fine with normal health issues, based on other reviews. However, I have a former puppy mill momma who came from horrendous conditions and has remaining skin issues that I needed to deal with. I went in specifically to have the scabs in her ears addressed, and they barely looked at them. The Dr went to look up what she could find about skin issues and came back to the room telling me the only way we could address this massive health issue was to do a Skin Biopsy that would involved putting my furbaby under anesthesia and taking a sample. This would cost me around $3000. I'm on a limited income as a Sr and this was just outrageously more than I could afford, but started saving. I had also wanted them to look at my chiweenie who had an eye discharge, and i was essentially blown off. I paid the $140 bill and left feeling like i was charged for next to nothing. We had visited the Downtown Home and Garden store, and a well informed employee there recognized that at least one set of the scabbing was yeast, and we got my baby on "Yeast Free Fido" that addresses the digestive and external elements of Yeast. We have used this consistently and not only did her pooping consistency improve, but there was a slow improvement of that aspect of infection. So this was strike Two of Stadium Vets, that a Store Clerk could at least partially diagnose something they wanted to charge me thousands for. Fast forward to me getting a flyer in the mail for Easthaven Vets that mentioned skin issues, and I figured this would be smart to get another opinion. Lets talk Night and Day. I've never experienced such a thorough exam for my lovies. They looked closely at what I pointed out regarding the different types of scabbing and they did some scraping samples on slides and looked at them under the microscope and whalah! I had a diagnosis and a treatment. We follow up after a round of antibiotics. I am so relieved to be addressing this responsibly. This was strike 3 for Stadium Vet. But wait, there's more. I had taken my dogs to Stadium to get nail trims as I was finding a groomer to take my dogs to. The bill was $50!!! I was aghast! My previous vet would trim for free, and although i didn't expect that, I figured "market price" would be $10-$15 each, not $25 each. And they apologized for barely trimming the Chiweenie's nails, but still charged the full price. This was just icing on the cake. I had 4 dogs for nearly 14 years before moving to A2. I never imagined I would pay MORE for two than for four. I find their pricing outrageously ridiculous, and that is simply on top of the lack luster interaction and medical advice i received. Even with COVID, ya'll are still amazing! My two dogs and my cat are patients here and I've only had positive experiences with the veterinarians and staff. I find them to be affordable, they don't try to hit you with a barrage of tests right off the bat when a pet is ill, and if they think you can get a prescription for less elsewhere (like Costco or Walgreens) they'll make it happen. The only thing I might mention is I think with how their scheduling works is if you want a specific vet for follow-up care/ appointments, you have to ask for him or her by name when you make the appointment. Otherwise, I think you get scheduled by whatever appointment is available first regardless of whether your pet has been seen by that veterinarian or not. read more

*BEWARE*...My dog was a patient at this clinic for years despite the high prices like $75 for a nail trim. The one time he has an emergency where immediate care was needed they told me that blood around his anus area wasn't important to them and I should go to the very expensive animal hospital. I do not recommend this clinic to anyone! Your pet is not safe with this clinic. The customer service, prices and safety of my pet are in much better hands with the competition. read more

Wow. When I returned from my visit here with Sparky, I said "that is pretty much exactly what I wanted from a vet." Luckily, we didn't go here for anything urgent, but the whole point was to find a local vet we were comfortable with and develop a relationship so if we and when we had problems, we'd have a place to bring Mr. SC that wasn't all the way back at the shelter (MHS in Westland). This looks like a small office when you first enter, but upon checking in, you realize that it's a really busy place, with lots of activity and vet assistants/techs. The Dr. was caring, a good listener, and very straightforward while friendly. The fact that we could fill out a new patient intake form online and request a call *from* the office to schedule our first appointment was really convenient, too. They have an online portal system with I haven't spent much time with yet, but considering that my *human* Dr. just started offering that within the last 8 months, I'd say they are pretty on top of technology! read more

I had been taking my Dog here for 8 years , since she was born. But the last two times she was sick and I called to get an appointment to see the vet, they told me it would be 7-10 days before they had an opening. Unacceptable and quite frankly shocking!! We now have a new vet. read more

The receptionists at the front desk basically do their jobs with as few words and interaction with you as possible. The same with the vets, who were a little friendlier. My two kittens were in for follow-up "booster shots," which were not really explained to me. I asked if the vet wanted to see documentation from when I took them to get neutered (and also rabies shots), but the vet told me not to bother. This ended up costing me an extra $48 because they gave the kittens rabies shots!!! I'm annoyed at the lack of communication this place provides, AND I'm out an unnecessary $48. read more

Just a quick update on their new location. Definitely a lot more space (no more claustrophobia-inducing check-ins), chairs in the waiting room and in the exam rooms, and everything is clean and brand-spankin'-new. Also seems to be some new staff on deck. Even though the rush and sense of chaos has been greatly reduced in the new location, somehow, things seemed more brusque this time around. The woman at the counter was curt and hardly made eye contact. The vet (Courtney) that saw my cat mocked him for being stressed and growling a little when she was pulling the fur back around an old scar. I love PLAYFULLY giving sh*t to people but please give my buddy a break. He doesn't know you, he just got out of a terrifying car ride, and you're sticking foreign things in his ears. Beyond the slight air of attitude, she communicated everything she observed back to me including the condition of his eyes, teeth, lungs, and heart. I was going on a road trip so wanted some sort of sedatives for my cat. Courtney prescribed some which ended up making him incredibly wobbly, he fell down the stairs, and then proceeded to defecate himself the whole drive. This was effin' traumatizing for both my cat, myself, and my then-partner. I called her and she said, "Oh, yea, that happens sometimes. I'll prescribe a different med for you - what is is that you had last time?" /palm to face. Really? You couldn't have warned me about this? And maybe given me both kinds so that I could switch the meds during the 40-hour cross-country drive from hell? And you can't even check to make sure what you prescribed my cat in the first place? However, during the exam, she did bring in cat handler, who, as usual, was great. Complimented my cat and was very empathetic with him. Yearly feline check-up is 37 bucks (did the price go up?). 77 bucks for his three yearly vaccinations. Still a great deal. I left feeling a little off-kilter but far from alarmed. I'll be coming back but I wonder if they can get back some of the intimacy and warmth from their old location and inject it into their new digs. I'll also be requesting specific vets from here on out. read more

I love this vet. We come all the way in from Chelsea for the visits. The person who makes the appts needs to pay attention a little more when someone calls in to request something specific, only to find that when we got there, they didn't have time for that specific procedure. Now I have to wait until next month, when they have Saturday hours and drag my dogs back for AGAIN, the originally requested proceedure. Vets are great though. Just make sure you are clear and are HEARD when making your appt. read more

I have watched the staff at Affordable Vet providing service for our pets during this Pandemic and I just want to say Thank You. From the office staff, the techs. and the Veterinarians I have alway received professional, competent care, accompanied by courtesy and caring. Though their job have always appeared to be stressful and incredibly busy, during the past 2 years they have also been coming outside to get pets, and talking to people in their cars, while wearing masks. This adds more steps and more time to an already busy practice but I have never been treated with anything less than courtesy by staff. They are going the extra mile to accommodate their customers and I just want to say that we know your job is stressful and we thank you for everything your are doing. read more

A great vet and the one I recommend to everyone new in the neighborhood with pets. Last year after a friend posted on facebook that they needed a second opinion on their dogs "broken leg," I recommend Affordable Vet. The first vet and said the leg was broken and needed expensive surgery. Affordable disagreed, fixing our friends pup up at a fraction of the price without any surgery needed. It's always fast for me to get an appointment for my own dog and the exam fees are reasonable. I think the only downside is the location in the strip mall. Having my pet in a busy parking lot always makes me a little nervous. read more

My dog recently had a visit with "Dr. Paul" and I just wanted to reaffirm my appreciation for both him and Affordable Vet Services. They're currently using special "no-contact" procedures to see pets due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Specifically the pets are handed over to a technician outside and they bring the pets in and then back to you when they're done. It worked out very well. read more

Affordable Vet is fantastic! The check in clerk, the vet techs, Dr Paul, all tremendous. I have taken my two dogs to 4-5 vets for wellcare and emergency care and this is my best experience yet. Very detailed, down to earth, and pragmatic. I've been to several vets who assume every symptom of old age needs aggressive specialty treatment. I appreciate the idea, if it doesn't bother the dog or you, let's keep an eye on it. And having just moved to Ann Arbor, this seems to be the only thing less expensive than living up north. Great services! Update- Dec 2019, Dr. Paul was so wonderful during the last days of our beloved Phoebe's life, and shepherding us first-timers to her death. I really, really like Affordable Vet Services. I've had a lemon of a cat for 6 years now, and while he's an amazingly friendly and great guy, he's had issues with one thing or another more times than I'd care to remember. Thus, I've seen a LOT of vets as I've moved around the country. I think most of us know what differentiates between a good vet and a bad vet. You don't want to wait around forever in a crowded office where they clearly are packing in too many appointments in a day. You want to be able to develop a relationship with your vet and for them to have a relationship with your animals. You want skilled doctors who want the best for your animals, but also your pocketbook. You want fair prices. Well, Affordable Vet Services offers all that. While you might not be impressed with the simple office and paper-thin walls, you will quickly be impressed with the quality of care your pets will get, and the substantially lower prices than any vet I can remember. And while the prices may be low, my pets have quickly have their issues resolved with the care they received. I'm quite glad my fiancee found AVS when we moved here, because they have been great! read more

If you're anywhere within 2 hours of this vet - you're crazy not to go here for all of your pet visits. Seriously, this really is as good as it gets. We moved away from Ann Arbor, and still drive back for every single visit and it's completely worth it. When other places make you wait only to tell you they need to rack up more money with useless testing - Dr. Bill just gives you the solution - the guy is genius and charges an outrageously low price for everything from his services to meds. Dr. Bill is ridiculously efficient and doesn't try to find the most complicated way to solve your problem to rack up the bill like most doctors and vets. He goes for the most likely diagnosis rather than racking up hundreds in testing, and just gives you the meds for that - which guess what? He's been right 100% of the time so far and we've saved so much money. It's not like I'm not willing to spend money on my pets (a dog and cat) - if other vets really were more thorough and the money was worth it - I would never hesitate to spend more for better diagnoses. But that's simply not true, this vet ridiculously accurate, timely, and only charges the bare minimum always! Other places not only overcharge you for their service, but also tries to rack up needless testing and upsells you on tons of other crap for pets. Let me give you an example of our checkup today (we've been going to this vet ever since Rebecca C. recommended them to us almost a year ago). We got: -office visit for Pookey (my golden retriever) -test for heartworm (it was time for his yearly checkup to renew the preventative stuff) -medicine for my cat (who wasn't even there) to kill tapeworms because we had a case of fleas that make animals prone to tapeworms -heartworm preventative with tapeworm killer for Pookey -diagnosis for staph infection, with allergy treatment instructions that typically causes staph infections All of this for a total of $88! What?! Typically just an office call alone is $65-$80! Basically we got $250 worth of services and treatment for $88. Like I said, you're crazy not to go here if you even live within 2 hours of this place. They save you so much money, and Dr. Bill is amazing, I have no doubt that as long as I live in Michigan our pets are going here. read more

My dog has sudden issues with her eye which ended up being an infection and I called to try to get her in to be seen and they told me to take her to an emergency vet or wait 3 weeks (which luckily another office was able to see her that day without charging us an emergency fee). If you have a clinic as your regular vet, they should be able to make time for your pet to be seen for an urgent matter. This is why people have regular vets. The services are not affordable, my dog has never seen the same doctor, and the care is at best mediocre. read more

I took in a foster dog recently & was referred by the rescue organization to Affordable Vet to check on a previous flea problem from his last foster home that he hadn't completely healed from yet. When I checked in, I mentioned that since he was a foster dog & I didn't know anything about the dog except that he had his teeth cleaned when he first came into foster care in November. I wanted to just have him generally checked out to make sure everything was cool. The vet we saw - I can't remember her name but she was thin with a chin length brown haircut - came in and we talked about the flea situation & that I wanted to make sure he was able to heal from his bites & that nothing else was wrong related to that. I also told her that he was a new foster dog, that I had my own dogs in the house & that I wanted to make sure he was generally healthy so I could feel comfortable bringing him around my pets. During the whole brief visit she just poked through his fur & in his ears & looked at his belly & whatnot. She looked him over real good visually & said "he's going to need to be taken somewhere to get his teeth done." I replied that he just had them cleaned 7 weeks prior when he was first taken into foster care by someone else. She sort of nodded & carried on so I figured that had just been a recommendation for all new foster dogs, because it certainly didn't seem like she had investigated in his mouth thoroughly. He doesn't like his face messed with so that would have been a whole ordeal that I couldn't have missed. When the rescue organization I work with spoke with Affordable Vet to pay the bill, the fact that he needed major dental work was brought up, which had not been discussed with me during the appointment. They also asked what his temperature had clocked in at, to verify he wasn't feverish as we had suspected (due to his constant shivering) and they were told, "we would have to ask the vet but she's busy." It wasn't on his chart because his temperature was never taken. I'm unclear as to what they planned to ask her after the fact, but all I know is that the only instruments used during the exam were a scale & a comb, neither of which measure temperature. I was shocked to learn later that the particular vet who saw him was THE DENTAL SPECIALIST at Affordable Vet. Why wouldn't she have said, "he needs additional work done that the cleaning may not have addressed, let's talk about scheduling some dental services." She gave me the impression that they don't even do dental work at Affordable Vet. Anyway, after the visual checkup, she went to get his shot ready for the itching from his flea bite irritation. As she was giving him the shot she was like, "well he's fixed already, you should try to find any past medical records if you can & see if he's up to date on shots & do that if he's not." And then the shot was done & she was done talking & she left the room & the appointment was over. The dog was really stressing out from the shot & from the sound of the large dogs barking in the next room, so I was just happy to leave and it didn't immediately strike me how odd it was that she never even gave him an actual check up. Besides taking his weight there was no looking in his eyes to make sure they're clear (this breed is known for having poor vision) or taking temperature (I had mentioned that he had been shivering since I got him) or listening to his heart or lungs. I get my shih tzu that I own at home a physical every year and that's basically the standard procedure every time we walk in for any sort of appointment. As I was going to check out we were waved by like, "oh it's cool, we'll call the [foster organization] to handle the bill" which was nice & convenient, but had I been there for the interaction I would have objected to them being billed for anything more than a simple prednisone shot. We definitely didn't receive a full checkup, as I requested, or have any deep discussion about needing additional dental care as they relayed to the foster organization. When we tried to sort out the discrepancy between what was supposed to happen at the appointment, what actually happened & what ended up on the dogs chart, I hoped it would end with "sorry for the misunderstanding, bring him back and we'll get all of his vitals checked and make sure everything is ok." Instead I was accused of lying and the entire rescue organization was told to take their business elsewhere. I am actually horrified. I have 3 "forever" pets here at home that aren't foster dogs and I haven't found a vet that I'm completely happy with. It's a shame that the people who agreed to provide these foster services are treating the dogs as less-than or I might consider taking my "regular" pets there. They seem to have good reviews otherwise, but this was such a let down I will not return for a second round of this mess. read more

Last week, my bulldog Cleatus started shivering and occasionally yelping. (And by yelping, I don't mean writing reviews.) This all happened right after Ann Arbor got smacked with a snowstorm and then engulfed by a 'polar vortex'. Temperatures dropped to 15 below with 40 below wind chill. I made an appointment, bundled my beast in his camo jacket, and stopped on in. The receptionist was very friendly and complimented my dog's fashion sense. They could also tell he wasn't 100%. I got there about 20 minutes early and instead of making us wait in the front where there was a cold draft and it was busy, she took us to a back room. Dr. Shana came in and introduced herself. She examined Cleatus and could tell he was in some kind of pain. She then suggested a x-ray and basic blood test to help identify his issue. She told me the cost and didn't give me any sales pressure. I agreed. The x-ray was done in about 15 minutes. There was no obvious issues with his skeletal structure. For the blood test, she said the results would take 24 hours. She prescribed Cleatus a couple pain killers. The next day, Dr. Shana calls and says during delivery, the blood sample froze! She only had partial results. I would need to come in again. During that week, I was able to discuss with Dr. Shana on the phone increasing his pain killer dosage when he had a stronger pain episode. It was very professional and kind of her to contact me. So Friday rolls in and I try to take Cleatus in for his 2nd blood test. A pipe burst from the cold causing a massive flood at Affordable Vet Services. The receptionist was still answering phones notifying clients of their situation. They said they'll be closed until Monday. Monday, I took him in. They did the 2nd blood test free of charge. In addition, Dr Shana gave him another exam, answered questions, and gave us a referral to a vet internist in Novi. Even though my dog is still undiagnosed, his pain is under control. I'm happy about that and the professional service and genuine concern given by Dr Shana and the staff at Affordable Vet Services despite the setbacks caused by extreme cold. read more

UPDATE Wow, looking back, I was the first to review this business on Yelp back in 2007...how things can change. I am here to officially rescind my recommendation and issue an avoidance warning. Yes, the Dr. Bill and Kelly team will live on in my mind as the quintessential small town vet with whom you will continue your relationship with for the rest of your life - except that this mythological place died. i guess Dr. Bill still works part time, though he's hard to get an appointment with... Sweet, accommodating, caring and efficient Kelly has been replaced by a cold, unfriendly robot of a receptionist. So - after 7 years of loyal patronage, I drive all the way from Detroit with an obviously suffering pet, was late due to traffic - no quarter was given. I explained that the animal was in pain. I was given only one option - wait around for the scant chance of a possible no show (thus risking a hope of having immediate care for my pet from another vet). Could I get at least a single dose of medication for my suffering pet until such time that she can be seen? No. So yeah, I could never trust my business to someone who is so cold to the suffering of an animal, not to mention complete disregard for customer loyalty... I see 3 names on here that I recognize from my referral to this practice. I plan to personally contact them about the degradation in service. Though they may already know, judging from some review on here....I guess all good things must come to an end. No more raving that I know the best vet practice in the world. A new search must commence.... ORIGINAL REVIEW___ I'm not really in the business of raving about anything, but this place deserves major props. Not only did they come in early to accommodate my work schedule, but they also cheerfuly waited on me when I was late returning to fetch my freshly neutered cat. Who does that? They obviously really love what they do, and made me feel like my pet was special. (I know they are really nice at The Cat Practice and all, but I paid $45 there just to be told that I had to wait to get shots and make a tentative surgery date. That's right, $45 for zilcho. They called it a "pre-surgery screening" and sent me a lovely "welcome to our family" card...pretty expensive greeting card, if you ask me!) Here at AVS, the service is outstanding, the prices unheard-of for-ann-arbor low, and the service friendly and accommodating. Also, the location (for me) is very concenient, just near downtown. Which makes the low prices even more unbelievable. Plus they took the extra time to educate me about a special condition another of my pets has, and I didn't even have her at the visit. It was free information that I was able to take immediate action with and provide pain relief to my dog.That was just extra, just for being a client and a conscientious pet owner. read more

We have been going to him for 7 years now, since they were a tiny business just getting going off Madison and we have loved him ever since the first 30 seconds we met him. We had gone to another vet in Ann Arbor prior to meeting Dr. Bill and had a horrible experience. Dr. Bill saved our Golden Retriever's life. We moved all the way out to Royal Oak and still drive out to Ann Arbor for all of our vet needs. NEVER had a bad experience there. read more

We have nothing but praises for the staff and doctors at AVS. We adopted a dog from a shelter, and a month into the adoption, we learned that he had a serious health condition. Our doctor here has been phenomenal with our dog's care. She is just absolutely incredible and we are so, so grateful for her patience and attention to our dog. In a moment of stress and panic, it was helpful to come to a place where folks could explain to us in plain language what was wrong and what we needed to do to help our dog. She did everything she could, to help us make a sound decision about how to proceed with our dog's care. As pet owners/ animal lovers/ dog parents, be rest assured that you and your loved one will receive quality care at this facility. Absolutely disgusted. I was 9 minutes late for my appointment, called to say I was running late, because me 16 year old dog is dying and has sphincter problems. She shit in the car on the way there and I had to stop to clean it up. Again, called them. They said as long as I got there within 10 minutes I would be fine. Dr. Courtney refused to see us. The next available appointment is in 2 weeks. Cool, Courtney. Hope my dog doesn't die so you can have your lunch break. Usually I sit around for 10 minutes waiting on them anyway. I am so grateful to our friends Josh and Marie for recommending such an amazing vet! Wow, it doesn't get any better than Dr. Bill and his crew at Affordable Vets. A down to earth, very friendly atmosphere defines this small place right across the street from Washtenaw Dairy. You may pull up and think it's nothing fancy, and you are right. But special, absolutely. Dr. Bill is caring, positive, and clearly loves what he does. Our Golden Retriever Brewer took to him and Kelly immediately. The whole staff put me, my husband and our pup at ease. In fact, Brewer didn't want to leave! We had to drag him out, with him looking back the whole way. Dr. Bill gave us lots of specific information about the Golden breed and what to look out for, common problems, etc. which we found incredibly helpful. We asked him about clipping nails and he showed us how to do it and what clippers to get. Note: he is quite a fast talker, so be prepared to absorb as fast as you can, then take notes in the car on the way home! Our bill was incredibly affordable (he even comped our first round of heart worm medicine). We were in and out in 40 minutes. I know this was our first appointment, but my gut feeling is that we'll continue to be completely satisfied with their service, especially since our friends have been for a few years now. Maybe Brewer will get some ice cream after a visit too :-) read more

We love Affordable Vet Services!! We recently moved away but took our 2 cats and 1 dog here for the 4 years we lived in Ann Arbor. Everyone is so nice, the facility is clean, and the prices are very affordable. The vets take the time to explain everything to you and answer any questions you have. They helped us to figure out what was going on when one of our cats developed a chronic health issue, and they did it without running a million tests, which saved us a lot of money. I highly recommend Affordable Vet Services to anyone in the Ann Arbor area! read more

I have to say, these guys are great. The first time we took our dog, Orson, it was for an ear infection. Upon our arrival we experienced the really only negative thing I can say: there were two dogs tied up to the bench directly outside of the door. My husband was really leery of walking Orson past them, but I figured they had to be friendly if they had been left, unattended, literally 2 feet from the entrance. No such luck. They growled, barked and lunged at us when we walked in, pulling the bench with them. Very uncool and I'm not sure whose responsibility they were, but it definitely shouldn't have happened. I can see how this may have gone unnoticed, however, given the fact that it was the middle of summer and their power was out. Like champs, they were still taking appointments and doing what they could in a completely calm and cheerful manner which I found really admirable. The wait was totally nerve grating, with a bunch of people and their dogs sitting in a very narrow, dim and hot hallway, but, again, there wasn't much to be done about this. The vet was great--extremely friendly and involved in what was going on with Orson. The price was, as their name suggests, extremely reasonable and affordable. Fast forward to a few days ago. Orson's ear infection has recently flared up and my husband was able to simply call them and ask if we could pick up the same prescription since it worked so well last time, rather than making an appointment since we already knew exactly what we were dealing with. They told us they'd check with the vet and it ended up not being a problem. I really, really appreciate that they were willing to take our word for it and not make us pay for a visit. We got our puppy just about four months ago, and as other pupparents will know, those first few months involve a lot of upkeep: initial examination, several rounds of vaccinations, neutering, microchipping, heartworm pills that you can't buy in 6 month packs because the dog is in a different weight class every month....and on and on. Affordable Vet Services has made this entire process as painless and affordable as it could possibly be. I'm not sure how they stay in business, actually, but GO THERE so that they do. All in all, I think we've had our pup in there 4-6 times. We've only paid for services twice: the initial exam, and her recent spaying/microchipping surgery. The other times (vaccine boosters) we only paid for the vaccine itself, no exam/visit fee--and, they didn't require an appointment for those. We could just bring her in when it was convenient, and someone would take care of her right away. Today (a federal holiday), I called because pup was spayed almost a week ago, and her incision was starting to worry us--bruised looking, and a big bump poking up that we were afraid was a hernia. They had us come in right away and gave us an appointment less than an hour from my phone call. We didn't have to wait at all, and the vet checked her over gently, carefully, and efficiently, and assured us that the swelling was just some scar tissue and fluid. Then he took her back and had another vet take a look and confirm. He drained some of the fluid and offered to prescribe an anti-inflammatory, but assured us it wasn't necessary and that if she wasn't acting uncomfortable, there wasn't much point. In about 15 minutes, we had reassurance that she was all right, no pressure to buy unnecessary meds...and NO CHARGE for checking her out. I like that they are responsive to email, and I like that my dog is excited, not afraid, to go there. We've never had to wait for our appointment, but the space is tight so, as others have said, if you did have to wait, it could be loud and uncomfortable. When we came out from our appointment, a guy was sitting there with FIVE rather frantic miniature greyhounds, so we rushed our pup outside before things got too loud, A vet closer to our house offers a "puppy package" that covers all the routine puppy stuff for the first year of care. It's about $700 (and claims to save you more than $300 on what you "would have spent"). We're pretty much done with all that stuff now, and we've spent less than 1/2 of that at Affordable Vet Services. read more

I've been taking my 10 month old German Shepherd here since the day we got her, and for good reason. 1) They actual are affordable! I'm absolutely positive I'd pay nearly twice as much at any other vet. 2) Vet staff is friendly and very generous with the treats (so thinks my dog). 3) Front desk staff swoon over my dog, the attention you-know-what. She could be whining and barking to see everyone and every animal that comes in but they don't mind. I'm one of those pet parents that even a sniffle requires a vet visit (possibly exaggerating, possibly not) so we've become very familiar with Affordable Vet. Even with the check ups, shots, shaved butt...my dog is still excited to come back. read more

I love this place. Dr. Bill is fantastic. Several times I've needed paperwork--certificates for rabies vaccinations, etc. They don't charge for these things. Once I had a dog come in and the doc just spent a couple of minutes with her and approved my refill on medication; they did not charge me for his time, unlike most other places I've seen who charge by the half-minute if you so much as lay eyes on a vet. I recently adopted a puppy, and we have been battling kennel cough just about since I got him--it was a very resistant strain. Dr. Bill has been fantastic with this and my puppy is finally kicking it. read more

Went to several other veterinarians around Ann Arbor before trying Affordable Vet Services. Several hundred dollars later none of the others were able to effectively diagnose our cat's problems. The doctor at Affordable Vet Services correctly diagnosed the problem and sent us home with medicine for a third of the cost. They are efficient, compassionate, and (living up the name), very economical. I'd recommend these folks over just about any other vet I've ever taken a pet to. Side note- they used to be in a cramped building on the old west side. Their new location on Stadium is much more spacious and the one complaint I previously had - pets running into each other from lack of room- is gone. read more

We love Dr. Bill, that's a sure thing! However, we find this vet hospital very unreliable. Never in my life have I ever heard of a vet hospital that opens at 9:30. I have been to many vet hospitals that are open quite early to accommodate their clients and sick patients. I just wonder if the doctors and staff sleep in and just stroll in as they please. I also feel like their front desk staff needs better training. Each time I go to this hospital to purchase something, I get charged a different price. Also, they don't seem to know when food orders will come in. I once called for a food order and got three different delivery days from three different staff members. I'm pretty relaxed and I don't really mind, but I just wish they were a little bit more organized. But again, we love Dr. Bill.. He is so smart and very kind and just really seems to know what he's talking about! read more

Three simple words...These People Care. Is there anything more important to you when it comes to your animal's care than knowing it's in the hands of people who genuinely care for it? That's what AVS did for me. Sadly, my animal passed away due to a rather freak condition he had that could not have been known. But instead of a 'what are you going to do?' attitude that I would pretty much expect from a doctor treating ME, the vet at AVS seemed practically as devastated as I was. I knew that everything that could have been done for my dog was done and that his loss was not something that anyone took lightly. Knowing that made the pain just a little less. Thank you AVS...I wish you were my doctor. read more
