A party of 19 booked this accommodation for a hen do and if I'm being perfectly honest we all felt that the owner of the accommodation couldn't have treated us worse if he tried. Some of the party, including me who was the lead of the party, were coming down from Edinburgh via train but there were serious delays on the line causing us to be late. This clearly annoyed the owner of the accommodation as his "welcome" was appalling. Also, when other members of the party started arriving before me, he would not let them in as he insisted it had to be me he met first as I was the organiser. This would not be so bad but the people waiting outside to get in had a very young baby... however still the owner would not let them in. Going back to the "welcome" - when I did finally arrive after a very long journey he spoke to me like I was an idiot. He spent a good 10 minutes giving me a row and patronising me claiming I was the worst party he'd dealt with as I hadn't been in touch all day - a total lie as I'd been phoning him and texting him all day unable to get through as his phone was turned off!! His people skills were shocking.
The actual accommodation itself was ok. It was a good size and ideal for a big group. However there were silly rules and regulations that were frankly too much. One being a charge would be made if there was anything recyclable found in the bins.
The cherry on the cake was a leaking toilet that the owner tried to blame on us, despite it being obvious ware and tear. Fortunately he agreed that we couldn't have caused the leak in the cistern.
Overall, if you are prepared to deal with an extremely awkward, difficult and frankly nasty man, then this place is not bad and is near to many of York's attractions. But in my opinion the owner put a downer on the whole experience and I wish we booked elsewhere read more
