Cheaper than uber and more reliable. I usually call a half an hour ahead and they are usually there on time or early to pick me up. I always use cash because I use Stamford Taxi if I'm around town getting a car repaired or needing a ride from the train. But I believe they take credit card for over $20. read more

Nice cab driver, on time, just wish they had a visa machine to use. He waited for me while it took me a while to get to the cab. I appreciate the service. He was polite, on time, and got me to my destination quickly. I asked him many times if they take visa. He said yes. Then when it was time to drop me off? he handed me a slip to fill out all my creditcard information. It kind of made me uncomfortable that I had to write it on a slip and my only proof of receipt was if I took a picture of the slip. So your warned, make sure you have cash ! read more

Shady. Shady. Shady. If you ever need a taxi from Stamford to the Westchester/White Plains airport, you're better off ordering a round trip limo from the airport. It's cheaper, you travel more comfortably, and you don't have to deal with the a-hole drivers and staff at Stamford Taxi. My hotel called the taxi for me and I specifically asked for one that accepted credit cards. The taxi arrived on time but he had major issues with me using a credit card (note: accepts credit cards = "we take your information down on paper and charge you later") and would prefer it if I got cash at the ATM in the airport. Fine. Whatever. I vaguely remember the trip from the airport to be much quicker which makes me believe I was taken on the scenic route. Not good when you are rushing to catch a plane. When I got to the airport, I rushed to get cash from an ATM machine and when I got back, the shady driver told me it was a $65 flat fare. If that is the case why did you run your meter the entire way? I didn't argue since I had no time too. When I called the taxi company later, (I believed my driver picked up the phone), they told me the flat fare was $63. You guys can't get your scam straight? They typically have quick service to and from the Metro North. But the other day, neither my coworker or I had cash, so we asked the reception desk to call us a cab that would take credit cards. They told us it would be a $15 minimum, so we said okay since we knew the ride would be ~$13. We pull into the station and the driver insists that the credit card minimum is $20. We tell him dispatch told us $15, and he just keeps saying it's $20, and we can go to the ATM inside if we want. We didn't want to miss our train, and didn't have time and just let him charge us $20 for a $14 ride. I ended up calling dispatch and he told us that we had a new driver who didn't know the rules. He called "his company" and that person said the minimum was $25. What jerks. They can't get their story straight. Every were else in the world (Thailand, Australia, Western and Eastern Europe) they handle credit cards in taxis. Here in the US, you get BS from drivers. read more

I can't speak for everyone else on yelp, (clearly people have had some baaad experiences)! I called this place mainly out of desperation the first time because I didn't have time to research. Honestly the experience was perfectly fine. I've used the service 4 times now and each time has been a positive experience. They almost always tell me 10 minutes and show up on time (usually a couple minutes early). I always make sure I have cash to pay the drivers and usually call 15 minutes before I need the service. They have always taken honest routes and have been polite. Sorry to everyone who hates this place for giving it 4 stars, but I'm just writing from my own experiences. read more

Called for a cab to the train station. Was told 5-10 minutes that turned out to be 25. When I called to see where the cab was I was told "there in a minute" which was another 5 to which the driver drove right past the house. Wow! Taxi to train from North Stamford off Long Ridge Rd...I missed the bus which I found out now runs every two hours(?!)...fatal. I had to get to the city so I called Stamford Taxi. Surprised they showed up in 15 mins. But another surprise when we got to the train station $32!!!! The bus cost $1.50. After yelling at the taxi driver (not his fault) I call the taxi office that night. "Yes that was the appropriate fare...there are DOT rules ....something about the meter..." ARRGGHH!! Wish I came on yelp before contacting this company. I ordered a car for 8am the day before. At 8:11 when I had heard nothing I contacted dispatch and was told the driver was "1 minute away". At 8:20 I called again and the dispatcher actually checked with the driver (novel concept) and confirmed he was on my (very long) road. He arrived at 8:26 and I am now late for work. Was picked up by a Stamford "Taxi" at the train station. It's a line, so there really isn't much choice, but I really should have gone to the next car in line anyway. The car was disgusting-- dirty, ripped seats, nasty towel lining the filthy trunk. The car smelled, and the driving quality highly questionable. Also, the route taken was not necessarily the most direct. I had used a cc coming from the train station before, but the driver was livid about having to accept my credit card. However, he had the capacity-- by way of little sheets of paper. Talk about lack of security! It took him eons to write the information out, and I realized he still had the meter running. When I told him to turn it off, he said, "Yes, but..," and got even more rude. When I realized he was going to physically write all of my personal information down on a little slip of paper, and TAKE A PICTURE of my card on his iPhone, I made him use a card with more security, just in the (somewhat reasonable) case that he didn't keep the information secure. That made him actually yell at me, but I could hardly care. I have absolutely no idea who has vetted these drivers (much less their CARS), but there needs to be a baseline of quality and safety. read more

Ten minutes later I recalled and was told that the original taxi broke down, and it would be ten minutes for new one. I canceled and got a ride from neighbors. When I arrived at the destination, the driver informed me that he would not be accepting a credit card. After debating with the cab driver, I called the office and explained the situation. Let me first say that this car service deserves zero stars but I am forced by Yelp to give them 1 star!!!! This company is a disgrace to the city of Stamford. Plate number 355IT was honking his horn incessantly outside my apartment at Woodside Green in Stamford at 9:55 tonight. I politely explained to him that he was disturbing the community that I live in and suggesting that he could use a phone or his legs to walk to the person he wanted to communicate with. His response should have been 'sorry' but instead it was 'i don't even know the number of the guy'. He was rude and aggressive to me when I checked his cab for his plate number. I just needed a ride 2 miles down the road. They estimated a $10 fare. I didn't have cash and every cab in the cab line refused to take me. The person managing the cab line felt bad and was asking cab after cab to make an exception. One cab driver got into a yelling match with him (so embarrassing)! I just used this company the other night for a ride to the Stamford train station. I called ahead of time to see how much the fare would be approximately and was told "10.00" or so and also I was told 5 minutes until they picked me up. The driver was there in about 3 minutes and the fare was only 6.00...the driver was extremely nice the entire drive there and when I got to the station he even gave me directions on where the ticket machines were to buy my train ticket and which train line I would probably be taking, etc. (this was my first time taking a train in the Stamford area). I don't know if I had a fluke experience or if it was just the fact i had a really great driver, but I was more than happy with them. I will definitely be using them again for rides to or from the Stamford train station. read more

Just took a cab from these guys last night after a Memorial Day party. I called and they said they would be at the house in 20 minutes. Knowing that cabs are not usually on time, I didn't go outside to wait for them. Well, they were exactly on time and waited for us to get outside no problem. The cab driver was nice and polite and drove safely. Cab was clean as well. Price was in range of what all the companies charge. Definitely recommend. read more

You persistently think it's the customer's responsibility to placate and appease the company, whether that's manifested via waiting around for drivers to show up, insisting on cash payments instead of accepting credit cards, broken or malfunctioning equipment-radios/air conditioners/windows/etc, drivers refusing to deviate from their preferred routes, impossibly impatient and outright abusive dispatchers; the complete list is exhaustive. And it starts from the top down. If management and/or ownership at your company can not figure out this very basic tenet of 21st century business practices, after years of negative and harsh feedback via customer complaints (remind yourself via a quick yelp review search), you are frankly turning a blind eye to the demise of your own business. You have absolutely refused to listen to your customer's constructive feedback regarding customer service and adjust your operating practice. Maybe this bottom line message will ring clearer; I will no longer be patronizing Stamford Taxi's services, instead opting exclusively for ride sharing services such as Uber or Lyft. Receptionist gave me attitude and said that is base price and it doesn't include other things, I said ok.
