We took a train home to Baltimore recently after driving down the coast of Connecticut for a few days. We dropped our rental car off at the station (there's an Avis in the parking garage) and then walked over to the station. The station is a bit confusing when you arrive, but there is a central location with some bathrooms, a Dunkin', and some seating. Convenient location with parking and some amenities but don't expect too much of this station! read more

Stamford Transportation Center is a interesting name for this location. I used to visit Stamford a lot to see my cousin. I'd go and spend the night. She would pick me up at this transportation hub. To me it was modern compared to the old NYC stations. Recently they showed it on the news and the ceiling of a elevator was falling down. It was out of service at the time thankfully. I did find it hard to navigate to where my cousin picked me up in the car. No matter how many times I went I never found a clear way to get to the car pick up location. If I return to visit her I'm afraid I'll dread arriving here! It's a necessity but I have a hard time recommending. read more

Still wouldn't want to be wandering around this location later in the evening after 1030-11pm. The train situation was fine but it is the worst parking garage ever. When trying to leave , it took us over 15 minutes to find an exit that was actually open since the majority of them were closed for some reason. When we finally found it, the attendant informed us they take cash only. Cash only??? In 2024??? Since we had no cash we were told the ATM machine was on the 4th floor of the train station. What??? My first experience of taking the Metro North was fun. This station is commuter friendly from signage down to schedule. As Stamford is a major stop, we were lucky to be on the express train coming from NYC. On my way back, the train car I took to Grand Central is fairly new and we arrived to our destination 10 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. This station though has spots for waiting or eating, I believe it is not sufficient enough to cater the commuters. The distance from the town center is walkable - instead of waiting for the free town shuttle. There is ample car parking outside of the station, definitely fee is being imposed by the city. There is a cab or uber service allocated spot in front of the station if preferred to take it. Window service and automated service are available for your tickets needs. read more

There are two parking garages. The one closest to the platform is cash-only & permit Parker's. The Washington blvd one across the street you can pay with cash or card. $8 for less than 10 hours & $12 for longer. They are doing construction (December 2018) so elevator access is limited, which I wish I knew before i planned out catching my train. Disaster. Lots of stairs to get over tracks and to correct platforms. The bathrooms are gross (expected). There's a convenient variety store in the station itself as well as a Dunkin' Donuts. read more

Convenient for catching transportation to the city (of course, there is only one that can be referred that...nyc). During peak times, there are many trains to choose from. Generally, i allow additional travel time to jump on the semi express since the start Point is often Stamford. As such, you won't be fighting over a seat or receiving a sigh/rolling eyes when asking someone to allow passage to an empty seat (this is so ridiculous when commuters believe they have the right to an entire row). The downside to the station is that it lacks a few more vendors for food and beverages and the parking garage often leave sediment on your vehicle. However, the Stamford station is often the best option for traveling to nyc without dealing with traffic. read more

I TOTALLY understand the whole "activate your ticket" before the ticket people come around BUT today I decided last minute to go into the city. So I checked the train time & I realized there was one coming in 17 minutes so I RAN from my apartment to catch it & figured I would just buy my ticket on my app when I sat down on the train quickly... My app ended logging me out & making reset my password & before I knew it the ticket man was coming to me. But I was CLEARLY having technical difficulties & SWEATING & he gave me attitude saying "This is why they tell you to activate it before you come on the train ." & I was like being all nice saying "I'm sorry, I ran here late & now my phone is acting up.." & he was like "That sounds like a YP ." Angrily & I didn't realize what that meant so I was like "What's a YP.." & he rolled his eyes & sighed angrily & walked away. - YP I realized later meant (your problem) Honestly, that's NO WAY to treat a customer who was being nice & trying not to be a problem. I just needed an extra minute to press the buy button & he wanted to act as if I killed his dog or something. He COULD HAVE said "No problem, I'll come back in a minute!" But no he wanted to say "That's YOUR PROBLEM" (not mine) kind of thing. Super unprofessional. But this wasn't the first time I've encountered NASTY ticket people on the train. 99% of the time they are nasty & impatient & rude. We are all HUMANS & should treat each other with KINDNESS & UNDERSTANDING . Not short tempered & rude. read more

The bathrooms here are GROSS. Hold it and go on the train. (Odd numbered Metro North cars have them) They do a good job making announcements - PAY ATTENTION and you shouldn't miss your train. Aesthetically, the station sucks - very sterile. At night you're treated to the visual atrocity of the neon lights, which I was hoping was a holiday thing, but NOPE, they're still there. And for the love of God, if you're only going to New York, don't waste your money on Amtrak. read more

After commuting to and from this station for months, I can now say with confidence that this is not a train station but a shelter for the homeless with late trains occasionally passing through. For a main train station, it's far from ideal or efficient. The station has a Dunkin Donuts, Java House, Subway and a good amount of vending machines if you want any food or snacks. The bus services are on the lower level and the train services are on the upper level. By services I'm referring to customer service and ticketing services. I take the Metro-North, so I'll continue talking about that. There's 4 tracks, interestingly enough they are not separated by north and south bound, all 4 are mixed use. Usually my northbound train arrives on track 2 and the southbound trains I take leave from track 3 or 5. Btw, the Amtrak also comes through, so make sure you are taking the correct train. Be aware of the overpasses you take to get to the different tracks, because some of then do not allow you to exit on State street, I learned this the hard way... The train platforms are outside, so expect to face the elements. But don't worry they overly salt the platforms so you most likely won't slip or fall, just make sure you don't wear your nice shoes in the winter. The trains are always at least 15 minutes late, so make sure you get an app that has real time train scheduling. Last complaint to round it out, announcements are very difficult to hear/understand. So back to the app recommendation, make sure you get an app, or make sure you are by the train schedule so you don't miss your train. read more

Before two weeks ago, I didn't visit Stamford much. That all changed as I began commuting daily for a new job. As a now frequent visitor to Stamford Station, I can definitely say while functional, it could definitely use a few improvements. The entire decor of the station seems to be stuck in the 80s, complete with neon lights at night. With it's red/grey corridors and overall appeal, it needs a little updating. In the tunnel, there is what appears to be a plastic trashbag catchall for a leak that's never been attended to. It would be great if there were definitely more food/drink options (please please Starbucks!). They've got a Dunkin Donuts upstairs by the ticketing booth, along with a snack stand on the other side, plus a "Java Joe's" - which I guess is the best of all the places they have here as they prepare made-to-order breakfast (and I think, lunch) sandwiches. There is a SUBWAY sandwiches on the lower level along with several snack and drink vending machines (truth be told I didn't know the lower level existed before I started commuting). And then you've got Metro-North (to New York, New Haven, and a connection to mid-Connecticut) and Amtrak trains. On the plus side, they have created space for commuter shuttles only. So if you are visiting one of the local HQs of companies in the area, many of the shuttles run often during the rush hours, and the station has created ample room for them all to coexist. read more

Be aware. The parking garage only takes cash. So when you roll up to the booth at say midnight after a full day in the City. You better have extra cash. Where else in the world does a parking garage not take credit or debit? Talk about backwater. I'm originally from lower CT and am here visiting family. I remember now why I left. Trains are on time!!! Lots of trains to Bridgeport so it's very convenient. It's very clean and easy access from all different directions. The speakers are loud and clear and the there are plenty of TV monitors for train schedules. The only thing they need are some LCD TV monitors on the platforms for current schedules. This is the station closest to where I live, it's a short walk from my apartment. It is also one of the stations that almost every single train on the Metro North line and Amtrak stops on, so it's a great station just from the logistics viewpoint. You can more or less take your pick of trains when you're headed towards GCT. The station is currently undergoing some renovations on the escalators, and there's a lot that could be improved on the inside areas. There are quite a few parking garages on the south side of the station for your parking needs. read more

Our first experience with Amtrak. Let me just say the two METRO NORTH attendants were so rude and not helpful. Telling me to check sign, that then had technical difficulties. She proceeded to tell me she's Metro North not Amtrak. He didn't want to be bothered by customers. They just stood there and looked so unfriendly. 1 star because no issues with Amtrak. HOWEVER, do not park in the garage at the train station unless you are prepared to pay with cash upon leaving. There are no signs when you enter the garage indicating they do not take credit cards; there are no pay stations anywhere; concrete floors are crumbling and areas where you can walk are dimly lit, yeah, very safe when traveling alone! This is one of the ugliest train stations ever. It is very run down. I was here on a day when it was pouring and the train station was flooded inside even though it was indoors. If you need a cab, there are cabs. They only take cash for short distances. For longer distance, they do take credit card - my driver had to literally write down my credit card number because he didn't have a machine to swipe it. Once again, even the cabs here are behind the times. Welcome back to the 1980s people! FYI Uber is cheaper than cabs. read more

A more modern station than others on the Metro North/Amtrak lines, but not necessarily all in a good way. For example, getting from ground level to station level takes one on as many as 4-5 separate escalators. The eating options are, not surprisingly, awful and forgettable. The bathrooms don't carry paper towels so you're forced to grab the handle on the way out and contaminate yourself with the sick bastards who are too lazy to wash their hands after going pee or taking a dump. But this station isn't all bad. After all, they do have chairs to sit on while you wait for your train. read more

Why at night once it's 12am they close the station. Causing us to get sick by standing outside waiting for the train. Doesn't make sense cause The train do not come on time and it's freezing cold. After commuting for over an hour and a half none of the nyc commuters should have to put up with this constantly under construction, slow and rude garage. Convenient location and good for Amtrak options. BUT, very poor customer service by the guy behind the window for information. I needed help getting to the right track for DC-bound Amtrak train. When I stood at the window and had to knock on it just to get his attention because he was chatting with another attendant. Had his arm up on the glass, leaning and partially covering his mouth, he did not turn to speak to me directly or make eye contact, mumbled his answer and when I finally got him to speak up, he was curt in his reply as though I was the annoying one. After my poor experience, another Amtrak customer at the same window was treated rudely by the same attendant. This customer was so frustrated he felt the need to yell at the guy behind the glass and used choice words to do so. We noticed the announcements and treatment of subsequent customers were much improved. I regret not getting the name of the attendant to register a complaint with the stationmaster. We're not regular users of the Stamford Station, but needed it this morning to put my son on Amtrak down to Virginia. Hopefully my son learned a lesson about the difference between good and bad customer service. read more

Well, it's a train station. And at that, it's functional. It's easy to get from one track to the next. Bathrooms are very dirty. So dirty I'd prefer a train bathroom, so avoid. There's a Dunkin Donuts upstairs- but otherwise food options are sparse. I wish they had more of a waiting area with tables and some better choices for lunch.. Or at least better choices to grab something for the ride. But, as a train station, it works. Which for my commuting life is all I need it to do. read more

It's whatever. It's a train station and certainly not the best. The remodeling and renovations are a pointless disaster and parking has becoming increasingly complicated. There's hardly any protection from the elements while waiting on the platform for the train or while walking to the train station from the parking garage. It can be frustrating during peak hours to rely on the train schedules as trains are always changing track locations. The waiting area inside is laid out poorly with rows of inadequate seating. The food in the waiting area is mediocre but it will do the trick if you're hungry, thirsty or in need of caffeine for a long trip or commute. The ticket machines are also a complete nightmare. For several years one of the ticket machines inside won't recognize the zip code for credit card transactions. it's not your card- it's the machine. Go to the other ones and it will work fine. There is also a lack of ticket machines available on the platform. If you park in the parking garage (across the street) you'll have to take a long walk to the platform and either head inside (where the escalators are rarely working) and purchase a ticket, or take an even longer, inconvenient walk to the other end of the platform to purchase a ticket there. I honestly envy the other train stations where the parking is next to the train platform and ticket machines are available and accessible along the platform. Thanks to e-tickets you can get around some of this hassle. Overall, I don't have high expectations of train stations. This one is fine. It can get you from point A to B. As one of the most accessed train stations in the area I wish it would pay more attention to commuters' needs. read more
