After a 20-year absence, the Mililani High School Carnival returns to the community!…read more 2015 dates: Feb 20, 2015 Friday from 3 PM to 11 PM Feb 21, 2015 Saturday from 11 AM to 11 PM Feb 22, 2015 Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM PARKING is to be found along the side streets or you can pay $5 at Mililani Waena Elementary for parking. Ride tickets = one coupon $1.50 or a book of ten for $15.00 RIDES by EK Fernandez = there's a mix of rides for the tiny tots to the Screaming Fire Ball - the 360 degree roller-coaster where you go around in circles upside down and hope the Funnel Cake you ate doesn't come flopping out of your gut onto your face. Kiddie rides include the carousel, Magic Maze (hall of mirrors and a slide), Crazy Plane, Helicopter, Super Slide and the speedway (fixed rail car buggys). Other rides for tweens/adults and daring kids include the Zipper, Area 51 UFO ride thing (a slow human centrifuge), the ferris wheel, the jungle twist (like a teacup zippy ride in a car-shaped cart), Pharoah's Fury (like the Pirate ship ride, goes back and forth like a crazy banana) and the Fire Ball! Kiddie Rides are 2 coupons. Pharoah's Fury, Jungle Twist and Ferris Wheel are 3 coupons. Zipper, Area 51 and Fireball are 4 coupon rides. Bathrooms = you can use the high school toilets (unless locked) or the luxury porta-potty trailer. Sinks are outside of the trailer. FOOD = Not sure how much food scripts cost, but Beef Stew and rice with mac salad is 10 scripts. Some booths take cash, some scripts. Funnel cake $6, Cotton candy bag $6, Cotton candy $3, Candy apple $3, hot dog $3, corn dog $3, whole pepperoni pizza $28, pizza slice $3. Variety of soft drinks, Icee. GAMES = Your typical carnival fare, i.e. dull darts aiming at somewhat deflated week-old balloons; knock over milk cans. Aim gun ball at cans on a pedestal; shoot water gun at target to win florescent squid hats. The only game we "won" at was the fishing for a turtle in a turtle-pond-game for $5 - guaranteed to win a large nubby rubber ball or a plastic helicopter you assemble yourself - no time limit. Great for people who want to win something and not shell out $30 to win a stuffed animal. WHAT WOULD MAKE IT BETTER = a White Elephant or Garage sale type event in the cafeteria including plant sales. If I'm going to waste money, I'd rather buy other people's junk and I guarantee the school would make tons money off of other's donations. RETURN FACTOR = yes. It's a small carnival but the money goes to the Mililani Trojans so its for a good cause.

As an alumni, I wish we had this back when I was in school. Such a fun and smart fundraising idea,…read morebut a great way for us alumni's to give back and support. So it's inevitable that I'll run into others that I once had class with or teachers I remembered. My family and I enjoy all the rides and games. I finally won 2 huge smurf dolls from playing the challenging milk can game. We try to make an effort to come out to this one since it's so close instead of the 50th state fair, Punahou, Hawaii Kai, and Waimanalo. But I can say that I've been to all and even worked at some way back when. On the other hand, it's can get overly crowded and parking lots around the school, YMCA and Mililani Waena charges a $5 parking fee.. street parking is free if you're lucky. The carnival is currently on this weekend. During the evening and at night I wouldn't recommend bringing a stroller. It's so crowded in the top parking lot that it's such a hassle to walk through. However I can't believe they fit everything on the top lot. Would be nice to have it at the football field but I'm not sure if they would need to stake the nice grass turf.

This facility is for kids ages 10-months to 10-years old. Socks are required for both kids and adults. Compared to other indoor playgrounds for kids, this one is on the small side. There's a good variety of play areas and activities that my kids don't get bored with the small space, and I enjoy it because it's easier to monitor them versus the larger playgrounds. They have a room for toddlers with a small ball pit, slide, oversized blocks, and toys. Next to it, there is a small rock-climbing wall with a foam pit below, a merry-go-round, kitchen, market with fresh produce, an ice cream stand, a doctor's office, and a dress up and makeup set. For the larger kiddos, they have a huge jungle-gym with a 3-way slide, mini zip-line, larger ball pit with a wall projection that you can throw balls at animated characters and score points. One of my children's favorite areas is the sand pit. Only, the pit isn't filled with sand, but plastic Nerds-like particles. There's a large climbing dome made of netting and sand toys in this area. Monthly passes are available, so is a small party room, and there's a nursing and changing room for your infants. Wipes are available if you need them. Stamp cards are available and you can earn a stamp for each hour-long visit you purchase. After 10 hour-long visits, you can get a free hour for one child. You usually have to ask for the card and for the stamp, as its given upon request. At the time of your exit, they provide your kiddos with balloons. My kids have gotten to choose from animal, sword, and flower balloons. Overall a great place to bring your kids to move around indoors, and give yourself a breather.

Feeding, milking and petting these goats was very fun and educational experience for the adults and children. Sweet Land Farm started in 2010 and sits on 86 acres. There's a covered pavilion and ample parking. How Sweet Land Farm got its name.. The land was originally pineapple fields and that's how Sweet Land Farm got its name. Sweet Land Farm produces four types of goat cheese: Chèvre, Gouda, Tomme & Feta. Which supplies local restaurants, stores and hotels with its goat cheeses & caramel. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant to talk with. I wish I got his name. At the end of our tour the adults were given Gouda & Chèvre cheese and crackers. The children goat gelato. I had a fun experience being at Sweet Land Farm and I'll definitely be back one day!

I especially love seeing the monsteras crawling on the trees, and the tall bamboo garden. The cherry blossom trees here are also my favorite place to visit when it is spring in Hawaii :). This place is one of the locations where you can view cherry blossoms. I don't usually frequent this area since it's a bit out of the way but the views and beautiful plants are worth it! Definitely bring walking shoes because this was actually a work out...Felt like I was in Jurassic Park - I was having fun jumping on rocks and stuff but I decided not to go too deep into the jungle of this botanical garden this time because I didn't want to get my shoes *dirty* I am very particular on keeping my shoes looking good... With any visit to Hawaii, I try to make it a plan to go check out a botanical garden. I don't know…read morewhy, it's probably because of all those Avatar movies. Anyways, on our drive up to North Shore, we figured why not stop by and check out Wahiawa along the way. We came here on a mild December afternoon, and the weather had been raining on and off as of late. While the temp would hit between 70 to 78 degrees. But in other words, the grounds were a bit wet and muddy in certain areas of the trails. At least in the lower parts of the trail, not so much the upper garden area. As we entered, I found it odd that no one was manning the booth. We all assumed it was free for it being the holidays, so we walked straight in. Luckily, it wasn't overly crowded. And walking the main garden was so eye opening. Plenty of colorful and giant types of foliage to check, and read about, everywhere! As we went off deeper and explored the side trails. I kept getting bit by mosquitos left and right, all up and down my leg. YES, it's my own fault for forgetting to put on insect repellant. So highly I highly recommend insect repellant! And then the pockets of mud as you tour further and further along the lower trails. These pools are what gives life to mosquitos lol. I did wear my hiking shoes, but you can manage walking it with sandals. But better off with shoes versus sandals. Plenty of photo opportunities as the park really is nice, but to me it lacked the foliage that I admired seeing at Foster Botanical Garden (in which all the gardens are related). All in all, I really was just bitter about not being able to visit the huge Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden. They were closed due to road repaving, so we decided to come here instead. But no big deal. Onto the next!
