Near Balcony collapse!!! I've been vacationing in OBX for twenty years with various different rental companies and have never had a worse experience than with Stan White Realty and Construction. We arrived at the house to find a dilapidated deck with evidence of partial repairs. Nails popping up on the stairs and loose boards on every level. Kids had splinters Day 1. Not super clean. Old and dated. Rusty pool ladders. Flickering lights. On Day 4, after several days of spotty internet, we discovered that the internet router was connected to an outlet that turned off every time the lights were turned off. Why would you do that?!? We had multiple adults trying to work remotely throughout the week and we never knew if we'd have WiFi. But it was Day 5 that will haunt my dreams for years to come. After a rain storm, some of us (6 adults, 3 kids) went out on the second story balcony to view a double rainbow. What was awe inspiring turned horrific in an instant when I heard a loud crack and watched my husband and loved ones sink three inches into collapsing deck boards. Thankfully everyone was able to make it safely back inside. No one slept that night though. The following day's "repair" (read: twelve or so new nails shot into the boards, no inspection) and no one dared use the balcony for the remainder of the vacation. The worst part of it all was the rudeness and complete lack of empathy from the company, specifically the broker in charge Kristina. They seemed annoyed and unapologetic throughout the whole experience. To date, no compensation was rewarded for the physical and mental damages for the loss of access to the balcony and hot tub below. Edit: After multiple emails, we were first berated for leaving the house in an "unacceptable" condition (trash in bathrooms canisters, sand in the house, and two sliding doors unlocked ) and then credited a measly $500 on a $10K+ lease for "losing the time on the deck". Bitch, we almost lost LIVES due to your negligence! Edit again: They rescinded the credit!!!! No financial compensation to date. The CEO took over communication. The BBB and NC AG's have been notified. There are plenty of companies out there who rent properties with integrity and are willing to address issues with quality and care. This ain't one. read more

Horrible experience renting from this man and his company. We chose Carolina Fever located at 9331 S Old Oregon Inlet Rd. This is owned personally by Mr White. The listing says the house is handicap ready, but there is no way for a handicap person to ever get to the beach!!! The cabinets were falling apart. The house smelled musty and when questioned, I was told it was cleaned to EPA standards. How could this be if the AC vent cover is caked with dust and the filter on the vacuum is black and chewed up? The house had many broken items and the grill was unfit to use. And don't get me started on the roaches!!! Yes ROACHES! I had to wait 3 days before pest control came to spray the entire house, which was basically for show. Mold and mildew around exterior doors on the second level From water damage. The list could go on an and on. My vacation was spent contacting the company repeatedly, documenting these issues and not relaxing. When asked for a partial refund, I was given the run around and finally offered $200. This is not even 2% of the money I paid! Stay away from this property and company!!! read more

Posted on behalf of my father: My family and I were extremely disappointed and displeased with your rental property for a whole litany of reasons. To be frank, we found the unit to be inhabitable and unsafe, and your employee who visited the property was rude, condescending, and uncaring. A few examples of issues with the house include: -Absolute filth, including dust everywhere, debris on the floor, food particles both in and out of the house, trash left under the deck, sticky residue on dressers, stains on the furniture/carpet, greasy residue on the walls, sticky spots on the hard floor, sticky spots on the dining room table, hair left in the bathrooms, stains and dirt on the ceiling in the entryway, and more -Continuing from that, nearly every item in the kitchen has some degree of filth (including lipstick stains on wine glasses), which causes me to fear a biohazard from contamination -The house has an overwhelming stench of dogs, cigarette smoke, and urine, which has increased potency when the temperature in the unit is higher -Many items are broken/nonfunctional/damaged, including one of the guest beds being broken/sagging, dresser drawers not working, holes in the backs of doors, chips in the toilet seat, nail polish on the toilet seat, and bathroom doors that cannot be shut properly without force -There is clearly no upkeep done on the property. In addition to all of the previously listed items, the bug issue is beyond that which I've ever seen (imagine: THOUSANDS of bugs coating every exterior window/door surface of the home, trapping you inside, spiders in every nook and cranny, and wasps [which one of our guests is allergic to] climbing into the siding of the home and building nests), the paint peeling off the exterior benches, the interior paint is messy and clearly rushed, the decks are rough and full of splinter-inducing fragments, the ceiling covered in cracks and potential water damage, and the deck railings so wobbly that I would fear to have children as guests in this home. -It is impossible to justify $155.61 for a linen package when the linens arrive stained, scratchy, barely fitting the bed, and left in a crate in the driveway. -Most importantly, the internet in the unit was nonfunctional for (at the minimum) 24 hours. We vacated the unit prior to it being fixed, which was roughly 24 hours after arrival. Three of our four guests require internet this week. The property did not have it as promised, and this was NOT a fault of a storm or act of God--the internet company stated that the owner canceled it on Friday June 28th, when our arrival was Saturday June 29th. I could continue on with my list, but I think I've more than proven my point. These issues are all well beyond normal wear and tear; these are extreme issues that are caused by a deficiency of proper maintenance. Due to this, we vacated the property. At this time, the internet was not working, no cleaners had come to the property, and no effort was made to fix the unit's many problems. An employee visited the property to confirm the issues with the apartment, but she was rude, condescending, and told us it's "not that bad" (immediately following the need to shake PHYSICAL filth from her hand into the sink after wiping one of the surfaces of the kitchen). We vacated the unit aproximately 24 hours after arriving due to this experience and requested a refund. We were told that we would not be receiving money back, even though we detailed the issues listed above to Stan White. I would absolutely not rent with this company, and I implore you (the reader) to see how many similar negative reviews there are about this rental agency. Even locals to OBX shook their heads unsurprisingly when we told them about our experience, and they told us that Stan White's quality of homes and level of customer service has gone downhill in the past few years. I wish that someone had warned us before we dropped five grand on a home that was inhabitable. STAY AWAY FROM STAN WHITE AT ALL COSTS. read more

My family and I went on vacation to OBX (Corolla), NC. This was our second summer in a row vacationing here. We though we were lucky enough to be able to rent the same house as we did last year. Unfortunately, this year Stan White Realty blew it. Upon check-in we find: ~ the the floors throughout the house are gritty with sand ~ most of our linens were still damp ~ the sheets and pillow cases are dirty with stains and what I assume to be the previous tenants bodily hairs ~ The chairs on the second floor deck where all broke. ~ The screen on the door for the third floor patio all-weather room was broke so you could not enjoy it at night because the mosquitos could freely enter. ~ The was a wasps' nest on the second deck patio. When we brought this to the attention of the Stan White Realty staff all we got was lip service and NO ONE EVEN FOLLOWED UP WITH US. As the other reviews clearly state DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH STAN WHITE REALTY. They have poor customer service. You just lost what could have been long time repeat customers. read more

We have been staying in the Outer Banks since I was a kid and have NEVER rented a property in the condition of Almost Home that we rented from Stan White Realty in October 2020.  The pictures online did not match the house (and were taken off their website after we left). One bedroom was unusable because of what looked and smelled like a mold issue, the door do the deck didn't open, most of the electrical outlets in the family room didn't work, the kitchen cabinets were a mess, the gas grill was covered with mold and on and on.  We were halfway into our stay by the time anybody answered my emails or calls.  The maintenance supervisor that finally called said the issues couldn't be fixed while the house was tenant occupied.  Finally connected with a supervisor who blamed the homeowners for the condition of the house and said our contract wasn't with Stan White but with the homeowners so they couldn't make it right by issuing a partial refund without the homeowners approval.  They finally offered $150 (we paid over 2k) but this was after months of emails and a complaint to the BBB.  This is by far the worst rental company we have ever dealt with, they had an excuse for everything and in my opinion were dishonest.  Will never rent from them again, so many great rental companies in OBX, this one was the worst! read more

Rented a nice place. However, there was no service from Stan White Realty regarding some major issues. Dryer in unit was not usable - made a horrendous noise when turned on. Left message on Sunday, called again Monday, called again Wednesday. Maintenance finally showed up. Said they needed a part which would be installed on Thursday. Part was never installed and we did not hear anything from Stan White again. I Also reported that the DVD player did not work, the TV controller was missing, and the fan in the bathroom sounded like a truck accelerating. None of these issues were addressed. I got an email from Stan White the night we checked in. It stated that they are there to assist with any problem. That email should have been sent to their staff to remind them of their responsibility to the renters. The brochure we got when we checked in emphasized that we are getting a "complimentary bar of soap." The BAR OF SOAP was a tiny piece of soap that one gets from the cheapest hotels. Stan White should remove this comment from their brochure. It just emphasis how cheap they are. . read more

We've been renting from Stan White for 15+ years and have had wonderful experiences. In fact, on several occasions, the reservations people were extraordinarily kind and helpful. (One year, I completely screwed up our reservation and we arrived the wrong week.....after driving 11 hours. They quickly found us a different condo- no judgement and no additional cost. I highly recommend Stan White. read more

Amazing place. However, Stan white reality who we rented from and their customer service is way below average. I paid extra to get in at 1 pm. Ended up waiting for 20 minutes because they sent us the wrong code. This is their job. I am demanding my extra $ back that I paid and was not able to get in on scheduled time with a couple of dogs and grand children. Ceiling fans not working in the family room. Refrig Is also not working. Hope they see this post. I will call the manager in the morning...... We will never rent from these people again. Do not rent from this company!! Very poorly run. Rented a 5 bedroom in Corolla everything was broken ,when their repairman showed up he broke a pipe and flooded the bottom floor ie: 3 of the five bedrooms. Stan white realty made no effort to move us or attempt to clear the water mess. When I asked for a partial refund I was put off for 6 weeks before they refused. Stan White Realty has dropped the ball completely! We rented OH619 (OPH619) -Set Back and Relax for the 2nd year in a row. Last year (2016) there were some issues mild cleaning, broken shower door; we called Stan White Realty and Summer and her team immediately had the items fixed our vacation was wonderful. Unfortunately this year, it was anything but relaxing! We arrived and NONE of the bedrooms had been cleaned, there was sand all over the floors AND bed covers. The family room couch was COVERED in dog hair and the kitchen area was a sticky mess. My brother sat in deck chair and it collapsed under him, someone had broken the chair and placed it together, however that was fortunate because above the chair was a heinously large wasps nest, that NOONE bothered to remove. When passing out linen we discovered that the linen was still wet when packaged! It was disgusting, honestly I don't even know if it had been washed. There were no dish towels, the pool appeared not to have been cleaned in a while, by evidence of a ton of sand in it. We called the cleaning staff and the woman who answered the phone stated in a super nasty tone that "she was sorry that the cleaning was not to our satisfaction!" It was unbelievable! The cleaning crew came the next afternoon, and cleaned the house. We drove to the Stan White Realty office in Duck and spoke with Kristina Cifers, she listened to our concerns, confirmed that we would send her a list of our issues, apologized profusely and promised that she would "research the situation" and contact us before the end of the week with a resolution. We forwarded the list, and waited to hear how our issues would be resolved - Nothing! That soulless woman looked both my mother and myself in the eye and promised results, I am beyond disappointed. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Look for another rental company - Twiddy, Resort Realty, anyone that will value your business and understands the importance of excellent customer service! Read some of the other reviews and look at the pictures!!!!! Please heed the warning so that you and your family will have the great vacation that you are expecting and deserve! read more

We stayed in a Stan White property in August. When we arrived, there was standing water in the hallway, water dripping from the light in the bathroom, and water running down a wall. The stench in one of the bedrooms was so foul that we had to close the door and could not use it. It took nearly 7 hours for Stan White to send someone to fix the leak. Then, it took TWO DAYS for them to come and take care of the standing water that had soaked through the carpet and was puddled in the hallway. Mold was present, causing one of my children to have allergy problems. While we were there, we were promised a rate adjustment. After we returned home, we were once again promised a rate adjustment. I called them nearly every day for several weeks to follow up, and they PROMISED to have someone return my call, but they never did. About a month and a half after we returned home, they changed their mind and said there would be no rate adjustment. Stan White was HORRIBLE to deal with. If I was the homeowner, I would be LIVID to know that my property manager let water seep into my floor because they didn't address the issue for days.
