This company was fantastic to work with last year, we stayed with friends and family last summer. This was our first time coming to the Outer Banks and had a few questions and needed assistance with our property. As always with a new property we had issues with figuring out how to work the smart tv's. The ladies in the Duck office were knowledgeable and patient. They stayed after to assist us with walking us through how to access local channels and apps. The property was very clean and we had an overall wonderful experience! We can't express how wonderful the office staff was with recommending local restaurants and activities for our grandchildren. We booked a property through Sun Realty and paid in full back in February. The second week of July, less than a month before our trip, we were informed that the property was suddenly unavailable and that "nothing else was available." I'm almost sure that they double booked it and gave the property to the highest bidder. We pleaded our case that PTO from work was granted and even offered to change weeks, but they would not budge or offer anything comparable. No thank you to Megan, who showed zero empathy and is the epitome of why this business has 1.5 stars on Yelp. Only horrible people work for horrible companies and stick around. It took almost a month to get our refund, but we still ended up getting a beachfront hotel for the week. I have driven past dozens of empty Sun Realty properties, which shows that the company, and Megan in particular, are liars, as they had plenty of vacant properties for this week. Avoid Sun Realty at all costs. Only a bunch of lying scumbags work there. read more

1. (Major) Our first day, our feet were completely black walking around. 2. (Minor) mini refrigerator was not working properly where drinks are cold. Outdoor wasn't clean, we see spiderwebs everywhere especially near the stairways outside. 3. (FYI) Kitchen appliances were every where and it was very inconvenient to work around the kitchen..(missing scissor, the can-opener isn't working properly). Your sinks clogged each time we wash the dishes. 4. (Major) hot tub has a brown stains inside so it was disgusting 5. (Serious liability issue) our kids were getting shocks while standing around the pool or/and touching anything around the pool. We evacuated everyone out of the pool and ended our day. We called at 5:45p but it was after hours, left a voicemail and no one called back. Called in the next day in the AM and was told they will call someone for their ETA and we will get a call back right away. After many hours I had to call back and was told something that I felt like it was completely made up. She was not emphatic or apologized to our concerns. We were told there's nothing they can do and the shocks were no harm to our kids. Kidding me? Let just say we wasted the last 2 days waiting and no swimming. Unacceptable!!!!!! Never had issue renting a vacation home. Also this is the first time and will be last renting from Sun Realty. You will need to inspect the home more properly before renting it out to others. read more

This means they are screening reviews and presumably posting ones that are less damaging. Honest feedback on a unit is exactly what renters need otherwise they are worthless and misleading. The sun realty was extremely rude to me over the phone and lied. She called me on 6/1819 at 10:00am and was verbally abusive and I wish I never came to the outer banks. She totally ruined our family vacation with one phone call. I strongly recommend not using this company. **********CONSUMER WARNING FOR RENTING IN THE OUTER BANKS******* My family and a few friends stayed at 23217 East Point Dr, Rodanthe, NC the week of Saturday, May 28th-Saturday,June 4. I saw a review that said that the house had mold, so I called Sun Realty and Emmett Storey of Sun Realty Outer Banks Vacation Rentals assured me that the problem was fixed. That review and my review on Sun Realty's website has been removed BTW! When we first got there, we noticed the Air Conditioning did not work. We called Sun Realty (Agent) and notified them of the situation. Sun Realty Outer Banks Vacation Rentals told us that they were not able to get us Air conditioning units until Tuesday. They dropped off window units Tuesday and said they would be fixing the main unit ASAP. When we left on Saturday, it was still not fixed. Since the AC did not work, MOLD grew in the house and all five of us got sick and I am finally getting over it now. Next, the DSL didn't work till Wednesday. The ice maker never worked. The hot tub never worked, but then the breaker kept tripping, so we never used it again. I contacted their maintenance department 3 times that week. During the week, we had a huge rain storm and water came in on the second story bedroom from around the patio door and from the windows. The carpet was completely soaked. I have attached several photos showing the MOLD and water intrusion! Notice the wet spots on the carpet, walls and window. The carpet was old and falling part too. The owner told Sun Realty Outer Banks Vacation Rentals there was no mold.... They refunded me $100 though... I have decided to come to Facebook and I will be posting on other sites about this too. So so terrible!!! Do NOT rent a vacation home with this company. After booking a home for Thanksgiving they called me a week before our scheduled and confirmed arrival to tell me the owner was cancelling our reservation to do work on the house. Rather than help find alternative properties Patty spent the calls and emails instead telling me there was nothing she could do, and sharing links for literal dumps as second options over an hour from our original rental. They took their time processing our refund, didn't follow up, and were rude and unhelpful when I had to engage to ask where my refund was. They had no problem taking my money, but became fairly indignant when it came time to give it back as a result of their horrendous customer service. Their rentals are notorious for being disgusting and sub par, I should have known. read more

7/31/2014 So I am disappointed to say that Sun Realty did not do anything to make the situation better. I sent numerous emails, even to the president of the Company had no response. I am assuming from one of the contacts with the company of "what do you want me to do" and I replied restitution- tha t is not happening. I have sent pictures and receipts. We offered for them to come on more then one call to inspect the home as we wanted to show them proof, however the refused. I will also be trying to up load pictures of the unkept rental unit. 8/3/14- see all photos that were updated . The company stated it would refund $200 covering the early arrival fee and pet fee.. When I requested to have cover the other expenses; not only does it appear they are not covering those, but it appears they are no longer refunding the $200. very poor business practice. read more

Wouldn't use this realty place. The lady on the phone said we would be able to park at our house and use the pool while it was being cleaned because we had elderly folks and we are from 8 hours away. The cleaning staff came out and screamed at us to leave and proceeded to call sun realty. Then we received a nasty phone call and then called back and asked to speak to the manager. Well needless to say, the manager was super rude as well and told us we should have never been there in the first place. Find somewhere that is more friendly and accommodating. read more

Sun Reality hides behind trip insurance regarding refunds even though their contract clearly states they will provide full refunds in the event they are unable to deliver a property. They are greedy and I highly recommend that people find a more trust-worthy company to rent with. I am considering legal action against Sun Reality. read more

Rented a house 165 Robins Nest in Bayberry Bluff Area, Paying for early check-in, The pool was dirty not working, outside grill packed with grease and covered with ants and old crab legs, inside the bedrooms the mattresses were old you rolled to the middle the cupboards jammed with old appliance and blinds. Some of the dirty blinds did not work. Most of the lightbulbs were burnt out. Toaster sparked. Carpets so dirty and stained it stuck to your feet. The cockroaches did not wait till night fall to come out. One bathroom made for a thin person, the other three foot ledge to get into shower. Shower curtain was black throughout with mold! The deck outside is scary, all the nails are very rusty! The porch is screened but has a big hole in it! We left early could not waste anymore vacation time here! read more

I had no problem at all with Sun Realty. In fact, they were more than pleasant and accommodating when we wanted to check in a few minutes earlier than the 4:00 check-in time. The problem I had was with the rental: Lu's Place on Wampum Drive in Duck (there's no name on this house for a reason). Here's why: General disrepair Outdated No charm, no character, no "homey" feeling Blinds broken or missing Filthy furniture and filthy SHAG carpeting throughout Pool is old and not appealing Pool furniture broken and not comfortable landscaping dead Musty smell throughout house Either the owners or Sun Realty need to do a better job of keeping their property clean, pleasing, and welcoming to guests. We rented a house with Sun and had a terrible experience with them. Spent $4,200 for the week for the house which had an AC unit that couldn't keep up with the main/3rd level where the kitchen/living room was. The temp was 86-91 all week. We also arrived to find that the Wifi wasn't working. The worst problem was that when I called the Sun office to let them know that the Wifi wasn't working but more importantly the AC didn't seem to be working the person on the phone was rude and didn't seem to care and went so far as to blame us for the problem, telling us that we "froze the system". Thankfully they did call an AC guy out who confirmed that we hadn't frozen the system and that the AC unit wasn't able to keep up with the heat. We were MISERABLE all week with the incapable AC. As for the Wifi, we only got it working again because my husband took the initiative to call RenterNet, who promptly sent a technician who only had to switch out the power cord. We should not have had to do that on our vacation. Sun Realty houses are not required to have beach chairs/umbrellas, so plan to bring your own or pay to rent them for the week. An additional cost. We will NEVER rent from them again. Ever. read more

Had a very easy and good experience booking our summer vacation through Sun Realty. We've never used them before, but the house we chose was ready when we picked up the keys at 2:30 (30 mi. Early- no early charge). The house was very clean and was exactly as described and photographed on the website. The office staff was friendly and our welcome kit included a bowl and treat for our dog, which we appreciated. Check-in and check-out was easy and fast, payment and reminders on-line were a great option. Only snag was the wi-fi password provided was mistyped so we had to call the service provider directly to correct it. Staff at Sun Realty office was helpful in directing us how to deal with it and it turned out to not be an issue after we initially got logged in. Good house, good location, friendly staff, easy to work with. I'll definitely rent from them again. read more

8/21-8/28/11 in a Ocean View Home, which was supposed to be a couple of houses back with excellent views. What VIEW! If you hung over the front or back Deck you could just barely see a glimse of the ocean. I informed their staff when I picked the Key up, and they looked at me like I had two heads...idiots. It was definetly FALSE Advertisement. When we arrived at the house it smelled horrible and the carpets had animal urine all over them. Advertised a house Phone and WIFI...both of which did not work. Contacted the rental office. They sent a carpet cleaning company out and I questioned how they could have INSPECTED THE PROPERTY and thought it was OK??? For Sun Realty, Outer Banks beauty is skin deep. We rented a gorgeous house right on the beach from Sun, and paid top dollar for a week rental. The house at 167 Mantoac in Duck looked beautiful, the design was awesome, and the location unparalleled. But the owners and/or Sun Realty, which acts as agent for the owners, are determined to milk every penny from the property they can by ignoring basic maintenance and upkeep, in my opinion. Once we scratched beneath the surface, we could easily see that they had foregone basic maintenance and the house was in a terrible state of disrepair, again in my opinion. Hardly anything worked properly from the kitchen to the amenities. The ice maker on the refrigerator didn't work, nor did the dishwasher, no matter how many times we ran a load of dishes. The "stocked" kitchen was a complete joke. While there were plenty of plates and silverware, there was nothing else. It seemed like they "stocked" the kitchen by collecting whatever other renters previously left behind. The carpets were dirty and had not been cleaned in ages, and there was no vacuum cleaner for us to use in a three-story carpeted house. Do they expect vacationers to bring their own vacuum? The steps to the hot tub were broken so we had to do a little balancing act to get in, and the gas grill was at least 10 years old and had to be lighted by throwing matches at it. The wifi never worked, and when we called Sun, the agent told us we would have to take it up with the owners. We of course had no idea who the owners were or how to contact them -- that's really the point of hiring leasing agents, isn't it? And the sheets on the beds would have been an embarrassment for a Motel 6. Maybe at a budget vacation rental this level of quality and service would be fine, but if pay luxury prices, you should expect something better. Sun Realty and 167 Mantoac are a waste of your money. Go elsewhere! read more

We have been going to be Outer Banks for over 30 years. This was our first time using Sun Realty. Never again. The house was absolutely filthy. It was not well appointed, but I expect that from a beach house and can deal with not having a ton of supplies/kitchen options. But this was a whole other level. Thick grime and dust everywhere, personal effects from past renters under all furniture. Windows and doors covered in dead bugs. Dryer and multiple pool chairs were broken. Showers and toilets were disgusting- looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. And the absolute kicker was a used condom and condom wrapper in the pool area. Rented Angel's Retreat Property #18. Let me just say, you should avoid this home at all cost!!! The home is very dirty! The bathrooms are disgusting. There was mold in both jacuzzi tubs that required multiple cleanings before we could use them. The carpets in the common areas (stairs, media room, family room) need cleaning. There are holes in the pool fence line. The water from the upstairs fridge is not fit to drink. Black mold comes out of it. The coffee pot filter area had mold in it. Discovered that after making and drinking coffee from it for three days. Fireplace did not work for the entire stay. This was after I verified with the Sun Realty Agent that the fireplace would be working. Website says "gas fireplace available 1/1-4/30 & 10/1-12/31". Our rental dates were 12/23-12/30. Media room furnishing need replacing. There is a chair with exposed metal (broken back) and both of the two-seater chair cushions have collapsed. Clearly, one of the dining room chairs had previously been broken (we found the missing piece in one of the kitchen drawers) when it collapsed from the weight of an 11-year-old girl (approximate weight 95 lbs.). Very disappointing! There were numerous cobwebs throughout the house. The most obvious is the one in the family room above the window facing the street. It's been there for years. The air filters are dirty. We all have been sneezing for three days. Also, the temperatures are hard to regulate on the floors. Some rooms were cold while others were hot and/or comfortable. The front door required brute strength just secure at night. The backdoor would not unlock. We had to enter and exit through the space bath. Finally, and most disappointing of all, was the behavior of the Corolla Police Department located adjacent to the property. We were unaware of a "no open burn" ordinance in Corolla. On Tuesday, the family decided to have a camp fire in the backyard. An officer abruptly walked to the backyard and demanded that we put the fire out. We have a family pet that we brought with us (it's a pet friendly home) that started barking at the officer when he came up. Frankly, we were all surprised when the officer showed up. The officer then instructed my son to settle the dog or he would have to shoot her (the dog) while placing his hand on his weapon. She is the pet to our entire family and to have her life threatened so wantonly was completely unacceptable and unforgivable. On a positive note, the home is very spacious with adequate rooms to allow for family time and personal time alone. The hot water was remarkably hot all the time. The two refrigerators had ample storage and kept our cold items cold. The two stoves were also a blessing. We were able to prepare one meal, while prepping for the next one. Great idea! I would not recommend renting in Corolla. I would also make sure to rent a home that had more than one review. read more

We have rented for over 25 years from various companies. This is probably the last time we rent from Sun. The rental unit was very, very disappointing. It was clear this was a investment property and the owner does not stay here. It was not well maintained or current. The unit advertised cable, it had the basic 1o channels and no WI-fi, no lights in kitchen, old and peeling linoleum, no screens on windows, no puzzles or games, a 30 yr. old air conditioning which broke, 1 small dresser in the master bathroom which my husband and I were unable to fit all our clothes into and a chair had a broken arm in the family room. We we were locked out because 1 set of keys did not work and the 30 yr old air conditioning unit broke. I will say Sun did respond promptly to the key and air conditioning break down. An incredibly disappointing unit and it will make us think twice about renting with Sun. read more

We have been customers of Sun for many years and had made them our first choice for our rentals. Our experience this summer was unacceptable, we will never rent from them again, and we would pass that counsel on to friends, family and everyone else. We had rented property 87-C Seas of Sun (about $3,500 for the week). Upon check-in Saturday we immediately noticed that the pool was in poor shape with a good deal of debris and a dead lizard at the bottom. We assumed that pool maintenance would come Sunday or Monday and that the pool would be taken care of. It was not. We called the office Monday morning and reported that, and a laundry list of items that included mold, mouse droppings, and a sofa in the great room that was literally unusable: it could not be sat upon. Housekeeping came quickly for the mouse droppings and mold, but the sofa and pool went unresolved for the duration of our stay. The Monday after we returned I sent an email to the office advising them of our experience, My email was not returned. I called the office. Their advice was to write an email. I explained that I had. Their suggestion was to wait. I received the customer satisfaction form in my email and rated everything a "Poor." Still no response. I found a personal email address for an employee who had once helped us. She assured me that if I emailed her, she would forward it to management. I did. I've still (now two months later) heard nothing. It should be noted here that we are not a family who sees a rental home as an opportunity to abuse, nor are we a collection of rowdy undergrads on spring break; we are a university professor, a consultant, a police officer and a family who genuinely attempts to leave things better than they way we found them. I wrote a detailed review and submitted it to the Sun review site. It has not been posted. Sun has made it extremely clear that they don't want our business. It is unlikely that they want yours. read more

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT USE SUN REALTY!! I rented DL-19 / Duck Landing. It was HORRIBLE. This realty made my family (18) people total and several other WAIT to take possession of the rental properties while it was POURING rain. After the rude staff made us wait almost an hour to check in we finally checked into a house that wasn't even clean. The Hot Tub did not work, the pool was dirty, the floors were filthy, the stoves had burners that did not work, the ice maker in the fridge did not work. The AC on the main level of the home rumbled like a freight train and the one ground level bedroom had black mold on the walls. Some of the beds were so broken down they had to be replaced during our stay. After all the misery this property caused they were kind enough to refund a lousy $150. Their property listing was full of false statements and pictures. Do not use Sun Realty unless you want your vacation ruined. read more

I second the previous review but have an even worse account of Sun Realty, this being our second but LAST experience with them. We had booked ocean front abt 8 months prior, called right after Hurricane Irene abt status (was told all fine) then again before arrival. They give you the address and directions to the prop so when they said it wasn't "ready" at 2:30pm, we thought, let's go and unload on the deck then go back to get keyes at 4. The place was a WRECK! Sand all over, dumpster outside, door screen ripped off, weed growing in main walk way and, looking through the sliding glass doors (filthy with sand), we saw carpet ripped up, padding gone and the linens strewn about the filthy floor - disgusting. I went back and was told I had been trespassing, it wasn't "ready yet", it had been rented the week before (HA!) but had no reason for the dumpster out front. I had my husband stay at the office and said I would go to the prop, wait to see if anyone showed to "ready" the prop and if not, would call him on the cell phone so he could inform management. Ten minutes out to the prop, husband calls to say come back, they're switching us to a different cottage - NO APOLOGY, NO REMORSE, NO NOTHING!!! We were helped by a young lady, Lucy, who put us in to an ocean front that worked though it, too, had a mold prob from the storm - we just didn't use that room. Turns out this cottage rented for less but NO OFFER TO REIMBURSE us for the difference. Our week was nice but no thanks to the run around from Sun Realty and the scene that had to happen to get them to respond. And as to the check-in times, while we were waiting, they checked in umpteen other people - truly this happens at only their convenience and as close to their closing time, 5:30pm, as they can get. We will NEVER use this realty again. read more

Terrible management company. If I were a homeowner, I wouldn't list my property for rental with them. And certainly as a renter I will never book a vacation home through them again. The house we rented was dirty upon arrival, phone lines to the house cut, and maintenance workers on the property everyday. The rental office is apparently unavailable on weekends, as we called for 24hrs with no response after several messages were left. When confronted on Monday morning at their office, we were given no mention of them correcting any problem at their earliest convenience, or any sense of responsibility on their part to make sure that we enjoyed our vacation. Rather, we spent the first days of our vacation cleaning up after previous guests, and the entire week without local phone service and internet as stated would be provided, and fielding local maintenance men on the property everyday (with personal belongings and children in the home, this was a big concern). We never heard anything from the rental office about anyone coming to correct a problem in the house. The day before check out, we received a phone call from a maintenance person who wanted to know if we had noticed the lights in the drive way not working. Nevermind the dirty pool, broken hot tub, dirty bathrooms and kitchen, urine stain on the carpet, or pest problem. When asked about the other issues, the worker hung up stating they were only to find out about the driveway lights - the one thing we didnt inform them about. read more

We had an unfortunate experience with Sun Realty this summer. Twice the home alarm system went off (we were not even informed there was an alarm system). The solution Sun Realty has to disarm the alarm is to call the owner of the home. The second time the alarm went off the owner was out of the country. Sun Realty did not have a back up solution for this situation. Two hours later, after a fire department SUV, a fire truck, two Sun Realty employees, and a maintenance man all came to the house, the alarm was finally turned off. This was the last day at the beach spent waiting for the realty company to fix the situation. The maintenance man later told us he had been called to the same house the week prior because the renters said some of the smoke detectors had come down from the ceiling- yet nothing had been fixed. To add insult to injury, Sun Realty told us the owner informed them the alarm going off was our fault and Sun Realty accused us as well of intentionally setting off the alarm. Please rent from another company who will work with the renter appropriately when problems arise. We will not be renting from Sun Realty again. read more

We are finishing up a week staying in Holy Quack-A-Moly BIS-216 through Sun Realty. We had multiple problems, which were handled very poorly by the rental company and owner. Besides some minor issues, which were not addressed, like squeaking dryer, loose toilet seat and DVD malfunction, we had a major issue - the AC was not working!! This was likely the hottest week of the year and we were without AC! It took two days of calling the rental office before something was done, and then some window units suddenly showed up in the bedrooms with no explanation. I had to call the office again to find out if that was the fix or if anything else was going to be done. Then I was told that the whole AC was being replaced the next day. So, the next day, some workers were in the condo from about 10 am to 6 pm. Although this was a major inconvenience, we realize these things happen and were fine with it (the owners did give us a gift cert to a restaurant also). What we were not fine with was the total lack of communication from the rental company and there was no follow up with us after the unit was replaced either. Then we find out from the workers that the owners and rental company have known that this unit has not been working, had been trying to make it last, and they had a new unit on order. When I initially called the rental office about it, they acted completely surprised and had no sense of urgency. The other troubling thing was that there was a major leak from the AC unit through the floor and into ceiling below in the kitchen. The kitchen ceiling has a hole and is soaking wet with water dripping from the light fixtures! We were afraid the whole ceiling was going to cave in on us! The rental company laughed it off like we were crazy! Anyway, despite all this, the condo is beautifully furnished and comfortable. However, it is important to know that you have to climb four flights of very steep stairs to get to it! I wish I had known that before booking it! Bringing up luggage and groceries is very difficult!! The view of the ocean is very distant, although it is beautiful. The pool is nice, but always crowded and didn't seem very clean. After seeing these reviews I have to throw my hat into the ring because our experience with Sun Realty was pretty good. We rented a huge ocean side house right next to the community pool and yards from the beach access. The check in was quick and easy, of course we read our lease and knew check in was at four so maybe showing up at the right time helped? Oh and bring your driver's license in with you to check in, apparently when you pay several thousand dollars for a house, they like to make sure the person picking up the keys is who they say they are, Imagine that! One of the other guests seemed to have a hard time with the concept, so to save you time I suggest being enough of an adult to carry your wallet in with you. After picking up the keys, directions and getting a gift bag I drove over to the house, which even though it was maybe two blocks from the rental office it took almost 20 minutes! The traffic that day was insane, the rest of the week it wasn't bad but Saturday was the worst. It was such a relief to pull into that driveway, I didn't want to do anything else but plop on a deck chair and relax, however the frozen food was nagging me to be put up. Since I got there first I checked all the rooms, made sure we had all the sheets and towels, and of course tested out the pool and hot tub. The house was clean and had all the kitchen dishes and utensils that one would need to feed everyone staying in a house that large and then some. The second morning we were there the hot water heater stopped working and I had to take a very cold shower. Cold showers make me unhappy; it also makes my relatives unhappy and is not a very good start to the day. So I called Sun Realty and told them it was broken, they transferred me to their maintenance department who said the owner didn't do repairs through them but that they would contact whoever was suppose to fix it and try to get it taken care of. I have to admit I was really annoyed, starting the day with a cold shower and not knowing if and when the issue would be fixed was not what I had envisioned for my vacation. So I hit the beach for a couple of hours, determined to enjoy the sunshine. When I finally wondered back for lunch about noon to my surprise there was hot water! The guy had came and fixed it, chatted with my brothers a bit and was on his way in less than the three hours I was gone. After that there weren't any more problems with the house or Sun Realty. My family frolicked on the beach, in the pool and hot tub. We went sightseeing and shopping and reconnected with each other and all those happy things you do on vacation. We had a great time and were sad to leave. All in all it was a fantastic experience and I am looking forward to next year. read more
