My visit to Standard Optical had some really good parts and some less good parts. First of all, they were able to get me in with an appointment really soon. They're not too busy, and accept walk ins, so it is more convenient than other optical places. The employees were nice, but don't expect to get to browse glasses without major hovering and constant questions from them. For some, that might be great customer service, but for me it was too much. Since there are only a couple employees there at a time they're really personable, but somewhat slow--if somebody's working with them ahead of you it's not unreasonable to expect a looong wait. As far as the less good, you have the optometrist. My exam was fine, efficient even, but I tried to ask some more questions afterwards and he couldn't have been more awkward. He literally didn't even make eye contact and started walking out of his office while we were still talking to rush me out with short, non-descriptive answers and obvious discomfort. If it weren't for how helpful the employees were with pricing, I probably would've hated my visit overall since he was the worst doctor I've ever seen, but they were running a special half off lenses and frames if you paid without insurance and were so helpful to compare the cost with my insurance vs. with their deal and changing a lot of other variables as I made up my mind so that I could get the best price. read more

The young woman who assisted me in March (3/18/23) did not inform me that my insurance was not working, could not process Care Credit, and seemed lacking in her knowledge of progressive lenses. And no one told me I might never see my glasses with magnetic sunglasses, which I paid almost $850 for. It has been nearly three months since I ordered my glasses (for a trip to Hawaii in May, and now it is June), and I am still waiting. The store has yet to contact me, but instead, I have had to call them every month. For the first couple of months, I got a story about a supply chain issue and their lens coatings. Today I got a story about how they are backed up in the lab and are having a difficult time producing progressive lenses. I have never had to wait this long to get glasses before in my life. Beware, you might want to ask when you will get your glasses before forking over your hard-earned money. read more

this was a living nightmare. the whole eye exam was done with my contacts still in my eyes & my prescription was completely changed. they had me order a year supply but once i got home and tried the samples i couldn't see a thing with them in. i will be calling first thing tomorrow to cancel my order and i will not be trusting this doctor with my eyes ever again read more

I wrote an earlier review with two stars because I was unhappy that my very expensive transition lenses were unusable. After two attempts at the transition lenses, I switched to trifocals (which worked great). The trifocals were much less expensive (over $200) than the transition lenses, but I was only offered a "credit" instead of a refund. Since posting my last review, I was contacted by the manager who offered me a full refund of the difference. I will say the staff (particularly the manager) was friendly and understanding of my frustration and worked to make sure I was happy with my purchase. I went here for my PRK pre- and post-op appointments (I had the surgery done in Holladay). The doctor and the staff are very friendly, always making sure I was comfortable before and during my appointment. They are also happy to answer questions, and I felt well-informed when deciding among the different laser eye surgery options. My experience here was good enough that my husband is now doing his Lasik pre- and post-op appointments here as well. read more

My glasses took a month to get. The prescription was wrong the first time. No one seemed concerned or able to assist. The selection of frames was limited. The frames I wanted didn't come in black I received many emails stating my glasses were ready When I went to pick them up I was told "yeah our system does that" we will call you when they really come in. I had an appointment on Saturday November 25th, 2017. I arrived on time for my appointment and waited for an hour to be seen. They overbooked and had no room in the waiting room so I waited at an eye glass station. I scheduled for glasses/contact consult. They initially didn't give me my glasses RX and acted put out when I asked for it. They didn't know what to do about my insurance, so I ended up paying for my contacts that my insurance pays $130 towards. I figured maybe I will get a refund if they figure it out. They asked me if I wanted a free surgery consult and I agreed as I waited for my pupils to dialate. The consult consisted of a girl reading a pamphlet to me, admitting she doesn't know anything and her manager yelling corrections from across the room. The consult girl then tried signing me up for care credit with me not even interested in proceeding with surgery, then insulted my assumed inability to pay. I shrugged her off to obviously being new and not having people skills. I spent a total of 2 hours in their office. Then today, I take my daughter to get a contact prescription. Her appointment was at 2pm. We arrived a little late at 2:08. There was one parking spot left in their small area for cars and the minivan next to it was taking part of that spot. We get parked finally and check in at 2:08. The first thing they say is because we were not 20 minutes early and 8 minutes late (crap parking) they would not see her. Forget that I waited an hour on them just a few days before. They explained that they only book 20 minutes for appointments and had someone else coming in 12 minutes and she didn't arrive early to fill out paperwork. They failed to tell us they wanted us there at 1:40. I actually still have my confirmation text. I have been there, their appointments are not 20 minutes. I spent two hours in there with confused employees running around like chickens without heads. As we turned to leave, the surgery consult moron yells out in a condescending tone "Have a nice day". She deserved the middle finger reply she got. What a ridiculously ran office. Save yourself time, money and sanity and go somewhere else. read more

I did not have a problem with my service or my experience at this location. I thought the doctor was very professional and I got a good exam. I did have a problem with how they presented themselves and my insurance coverage. Before I came in I called them and asked them if they were a VSP network provider. Their response was "We accept VSP." I found out the hard way that this is code for "No we are not but we will accept their out of network coverage." So I was duped. It was my own fault that I fell for their cunning language. When I got my bill I asked why it was not what my coverage says it is their response was "This is what your insurance told us when we called." Not once did they say they were not a part of the network. I inquired more and they gave me a number to call my insurance. It was not my insurance number. I contacted VSP and apparently this happens all the time. They use deceptive language to make you think you are in network and then refuse to tell you that you are not just to get your business. Well Standard Optical you have forever lost mine. Not just because I figured out your deception but because well you aren't in my network. Shame on me fore falling for it. But shame on you for doing it. read more
