If zero stars was an option, I would chose that. I think the one star is incredibly generous. Let me start by saying to anyone considering doing business with this company - DO NOT DO IT. My husband and I wanted to have a driveway installed at our home. We called 5 companies total and decided to go with Stanley Paving because it was the least expensive option. Being new homeowners, we obviously wanted to save a little where we could. HUGE mistake. Gary Stanley came out to our home mid-July, gave us a quote and stated it would be about 3 weeks before the job was started. After receiving all of our other quotes, we called Gary a week and a half later and confirmed that we wanted to move forward with his company. He informed us that the price of asphalt went up so that would increase the quote he gave us. We agreed on the new price and were told that he'd start moving forward with all the required steps and we should be done by the end of August. Gary came out the following weekend and marked where the driveway would be going. The gas and water companies both came out to mark that it was ok to proceed. August came and went - no driveway. I called Gary the end of August to follow up on the status, unable to give me an estimated start date, he told me maybe another 1 - 2 weeks. Understanding that it is summer and that they were probably busy, we waited. Moving towards mid-September, we had no update from Gary and no driveway. My husband called to follow up, was given a nasty attitude from Gary and was told to be patient - it would get done. Gary was informed by my husband that we had a landscaper waiting to install a retaining wall around the flower bed that line the front of our home. This would end up running along the new driveway. The landscaper refused to move forward with his project until the driveway was done to avoid the retaining wall getting damaged during the driveway install. This job was being held up but Gary could care less. He still refused to give an estimated start date. Two weeks passed, and I called to follow up on the status. Gary was so incredibly rude to me and found it necessary to speak down to me as if I was stupid. Again, I was told that we needed to learn patience and it would be another 1-2 weeks and he'd be in touch. Ok. Well our landscaper asked that we hold off on our retaining wall this season since we had to keep pushing the start date back numerous times. Completely aggravated with Gary and his lack of professionalism, my husband called after waiting the two weeks we were told. Gary was disgustingly rude to him and annoyed that he was receiving another call from us. My husband was told yet again that he needs to calm down and learn patience. Well, our patience has completely run out. After being told the same old song and dance, we decided that enough was enough. We were clearly being strung along and could've went with another company that actually has manners, good customer service and knows how to run a business well. And we could of had a driveway already!! We told Gary to cancel our job and that we've had enough. His response was, "Ok, well you owe me $50.00". No were on the quote does it state we have to pay for the permit being pulled in the event the job is cancelled before it even begins, and no contract was ever signed. We were operating under good faith, something this company doesn't have. THANK GOD we didn't give him any money up front. Gary is a poor excuse of a business owner and should be ashamed of the way he treats his potential customers. I would never ever recommend him for anything, even if his services were free. He is a nasty mannered man with poor business etiquette. If you are looking for a driveway, do your self a favor and LOOK ELSEWHERE. read more
