Despite the negative reviews here on Yelp, I decided to hire Stanley Steemer to clean carpet in my guest bedroom, upstairs hallway, and basement stairs. Stanley Steemer has hundreds of company-owned locations and locally owned franchises across the country. This particular location operates in the Pittsburgh area. Its services include cleaning carpet, air ducts, dryer vents, upholstery, tile and grout, hardwood, area rugs, etcetera. Through the business's website, I scheduled an appointment for cleaning three areas of carpet on a particular day for a time window of 8 AM to noon. I appreciated that many convenient times for available in the week, so I did not have to wait long for an appointment. The business sent me text messages to confirm my appointment and to inform me of the employees' arrival time of approximately 8:40 AM. Two employees, Dominick and Ray, called me when they were on their way, and they arrived at my house on time. They spoke very courteously to me, and they did an excellent job of cleaning my carpets. They connected their vacuum to the spigot in my garage, and they spent over one hour cleaning my carpets. Unlike some competing businesses, Stanley Steemer did not use steam but rather hot-water extraction. Their vacuum pumped hot water into my carpets to release dirt from the fibers, and then they used powerful suction to extract the water and dirt. My carpets had old stains from the previous homeowner and from my dog and cats, and the employees were able to remove most of the stains. After a 10%-off coupon, the total price for cleaning and deodorizing the bedroom, cleaning the hallway, and cleaning the stairs was $176. The employees used a tablet application to charge my credit card. They thanked me and wished me a great day. read more

We requested upholstery cleaning of our sofa and loveseat, deodorizing and protectant applied. They came from Ohio, which I don't understand why since there is a store in Cranberry, PA. We paid them $420. What a rip off. The men came to clean our furniture and left with the furniture stained and dirtier than before they started. We believe they used old water or old protectant or something. They did not remove the stains and did not clean in between the cushions. They did not use a deodorizer that we could smell. They did a horrible job. We had to scrub our sofa and loveseat ourselves for fear they damaged our furniture, a waste of our Friday night, and I have photos and videos for proof. I called to file a complaint. They sent two men out to our house to redo the cleaning. This was a total inconvenience and a waste of our Saturday. I called again and requested to speak to a manager or supervisor to request a refund, or at the very least a partial refund. I was told "the manager/supervisor have to return your call within 24-48 hours". No one called. I am very displeased with their service, customer service overall and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Terrible service. Just terrible. First, the account rep was in training, and then he fell down the stairs and broke a ceramic dish my wife had made. But the most disappointing part was the main reason I had them come: to address a heavily trafficked area on the carpet. At the end of the service, I pointed out that the carpet was still very dirty. They claimed the grey color was due to the carpet being worn, saying it was the original carpet fibers in their natural state. I was truly disappointed, especially since I trusted Stanley Steemer's assessment. I felt deceived about the condition of the carpet we had purchased (it was not cheap by any means and was to stand up against long term foot travif). Since then, I've avoided stepping on that area because it was grey. But today, I discovered the issue wasn't the carpet--it was the service. There was a small spot on the carpet from my dog, so I used an over-the-counter carpet cleaner, and voilà, it cleaned up perfectly and restored the carpet's natural color. I immediately tried this on the grey spot--the one where Stanley Steemer claimed it was worn back to the original fibers--and it removed nearly 80% of the grey, making it look almost new again. The towels I used were filthy with dirt after scrubbing (see the pics!), and I was truly amazed. This experience has restored my faith in the carpet but destroyed my trust in Stanley Steemer. Don't let my experience become your mistake. Find someone else to service your carpets--or just do them yourself. read more

The only reason I am giving one star is that there is not a lower option available. We scheduled a carpet cleaning (Eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh). The tech shows up today (6/7/21) and the first thing he does is use the bathroom (WITHOUT EVEN ASKING) to (very loudly) void his bowels. He's in there for over ten minutes! He exits the bathroom and goes outside. He brings in only a wand for the cleaning equipment, nothing else, and goes back into the bathroom for another 10-15 minute session of loudly voiding his bowels. We kicked him out after that. Now I have to disinfect the bathroom because Lord knows what kind of stomach virus he brought into my house. If you are sick, you should not be entering people's homes. This was completely unprofessional and unacceptable . I will never again even consider Stanley Steam, let alone use them. read more

I removed furniture from several rooms and on a chance, I phoned to explain that I was in a jam and needed carpet cleaning the next day. To my surprise they said yes and scheduled me for 8:00 am the next day. Antonio and Anthony were punctual and arrived on time, explained things and immediately got to work. The Steemer truck and equipment is the latest and greatest. Good equipment is needed for a good job. My carpets came out great. This company has it together. They have responsive office staff and great tech employees. Their customer service is the greatest which is the key to a successful business. The crews give lip service and then do a terrible job with a big smile on their face like we are idiots who don't know any better. Total Disaster. Scheduled for 8am - 12pm. They showed up after 1pm with faulty equipment so had to wait for a new truck to arrive. Didn't finish until after 4pm so carpets still wet the next morning causing me to cancel early morning appt with realtor. Dumped waste water in driveway leaving GREEN piles of lint (my carpets are Tan) from prior job. They insisted they put down deodorizer but I'm sure they did not as I've had carpets cleaned several times before and you can smell it when they are done (house had No Pets and was a Non-smoking home). Talked to supervisor who said my appt was from 12pm - 4pm but confirmation CLEARLY said 8am - 12pm so he just gave me a bunch of bull****. OVER $384 for a REALLY CRAPPY JOB!!!! Scheduled a whole house estimate and carpet/floor cleaning a week ago. Began describing my needs and decided an in home estimate was needed. Scheduler told me that they come and give the estimate and then do the work the same day. Appt was scheduled for today, Monday, with a window between 12 and 4p. Fine with me, I needed the work done and thought Stanley Steamer was reliable. I also described at least three floors, 4+ bedrooms, and two large staircases so I figured I was scheduled for the bulk of the day. I was unexpectedly in the hospital for a week and am on oxygen, so piling random things up on the beds and off the floors for a clear path was not an easy task but I go it done. And I waited.....by 1p hadn't heard anything so I texted. The guys were on a job before me. (?) So, by 3p (window was till 4, mind you), I texted again and was told that the they would be leaving that job at 320p. Then I get a call from dispatch. This man was the epitome of unprofessional. Told me that that job ran long and basically they would get there when they get there. He kept asking me what I wanted to do. I told him the window was closed and there was no way they would make it to my house by 4p. And even if, I have 3 floors of carpeting to clean and two sets of stairs after they get set up. They wouldn't be done until well into the night. "What do you want us to do?" I cancelled and will now take everything back off the beds using my oxygen and then lift everything back up on the beds for next Tuesday when Kemper Carpet Cleaners are scheduled to come. Hopefully I will be feeling better by then. Thanks for nothing Stanley Steamer! So last week I posted a negative review of Zerorez after they came to my house and tried to sell me a bunch of additional chemical treatments to take care of spots (pet urine) from the pervious owner. The additional chemicals would have more than doubled the estimated price of the carpet cleaning that I was quoted - from $250 to nearly $600!. I sent the guy packing and called Stanley Steemer. Today Stanley Steemer showed up and cleaned the entire house for the price they quoted - far, far less expensive than the other guys, and not a spot or stain remaining anywhere on the carpet. The carpet tech showed up on time and was courteous and careful in the house. When he left I had beautifully clean carpets that smelled fresh and looked terrific. I had all the carpets in my house and upholstered furniture cleaned by Stanley Steamer. It was a big job. They sent one person, who rushed from room to room. When I pointed out that there were areas where spots didn't come out, he just said they won't come out. Overall, the job was rushed, sloppy and very disappointing. I scheduled to have Stanley Steemer come and clean carpets in my living and dining room today. I scheduled the appointment last week via their website with the confirmation saying the arrival time being between 12pm-4pm. I received a text yesterday to confirm, and I confirmed back to them. I asked if they could give me a heads up when they were 10 minutes away so I could put my pets in a safe place. Today I left work early to ensure I would be there to let them in- moved all the furniture out of the way. I waited and waited- no big deal since the timeframe was between 12pm-4pm. Well...4:15 came and went. I called the 1-800 number and they directed me to the local office. I told the women who answered that I had to cancel my appointment because they haven't showed up yet and did not call and I had to return to work. She asked if I wanted to reschedule for tomorrow and I told her no- I have to work! I specifically left work early for this (having to go back tonight to work). All is said was "oh you are the next stop. thanks have a good night!". This is not the way to do business. Why even set up timeframes if you can't show up? I understand prior appointments might run longer but wouldn't it be professional to call and let the next appointment know you're running late? I would've made plans to make sure it could be done. I left my job (and lost money doing so) for no one to show up! I will never ever use this company and recommend no one else uses them either. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! They "cleaned" my carpets and afterwards I noticed balls of hair and dust throughout the areas cleaned. I called and spoke to a supervisor who argued with me and offered another cleaning which I didn't want or a $50 gift certificate for a cleaning in the future. We had Stanley Steamer do our carpet and floors about a year and a half ago. It was awful. One of the men knew nothing and the other a little more than that. They actually poured water all over our hardware floors to clean. It was like a small swimming pool. They were suppose to clean the hardwood floors. But instead ended up stripping and ruining them. Who does this? The carpet cleaning was a little better, but carpet was soaked for days. After talking to other companies , This was unbelievable . We never wrote review. The young men who came were polite and did their job. Unfortunately I ended up paying almost $100 more than the phone quote. My small cape cod has a livingroom dining room combination. I told her the size when we spoke on the phone. The original quote was $215 on the phone. After the carpet was started I was told it would be $54 dollars extra. Again t ok ey had sprayed stuff on some of my carpet so what could I do. Then I got the bill. It went up to $306. I called and was told my quote was $249. I have never been so disrespected in my life. The customer service when booking the appointment was amazing the girl was great. Once here the one male worker had an alteration with my landlord resulting in a yelling match. I apologized to both parties for the entire thing dismissing the whole situation. Both male workers then entered my apartment to figure out a way to get the hoses in, they bent both of my screens on my windows. They cleaned my carpets and they did amazing on that. After they left I called the manager to explain what happened with the altercation and screens only to be told it was my fault. The manager YELLED at me saying I was unprofessional and rude. If I knew that my apartment would be damaged and that the worker would cause issues with my landlord I would have went elsewhere. If it wasn't for the lack of care that they provided for my property then service would have been amazing. It seems that they are money driven and careless. read more

Their extensive TV advertising had me thinking they could get anything out. Well, they couldn't get the fireplace soot out of my carpet. The technician tried really hard. I asked him if he had anything to spray on it and he went out to the van and got something that didn't work. I went and got some Spot Shot out of the closet, so then he went back out to the van to get something stronger. No luck. Then he tried to upsell me on carpet protection, but the last thing I want is to "protect" the stain "in"! In addition, he tried to sell me the same spot remover that didn't work on the soot and I asked him why I would buy a spot remover that clearly didn't work!?!?! I have used Stanley Steemer in the past to clean my carpets and was pleased. Unfortunately, this time it was for stains and it didn't work. :( read more

I had them come out and clean my couch. It was a couch bought from a friend that had a lot of dog hair and old dog smell in it. They did a great job explaining what they were doing as they went along. Very fastidious work and they try very hard to make sure it is as clean as possible. They were honest with me saying the deodorizer is good, but the amount of smell in my couch might take a few more rounds to get out. Regardless, the couch is wonderfully clean and the smell is so faint, I can live with it until the next routine cleaning in 2 years. I highly recommend them. read more

I had a horrible experience with Stanley Steamer. The first time they came to my house they sent a really kind young man, I felt so badly for him because there is no way he could move my furniture by himself without ruining it. So I told him it wasn't his fault and called the office, they promised me they would send a crew of 2 people the next day to handle my account. This morning another guy shows up by himself and realized he couldn't do the job without another person as well. I called the office again they said you are next on my list with a crew. I told them to not even bother because they already wasted 2 days of work for me. They said they would give me a $20 dollar discount. I said it was laughable since they are basically saying $20 will make up for losing two days of work. Not only that but the guy this morning told me he was going to charge me an extra $40 for my closets that are part of my bedroom. When I originally called and the guy yesterday said nothing about the closets being more money. I cancelled them and am now going with Coit. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH STANLEY STEAMER!! I bought the house and as usual I was looking to hire air duct cleaning and carpet cleaning. I learn on the process of how they are cleaning the air duct and what kind of machine they use. And I found that Stanley Steemer has good review. So we called them and made appointment. I call Sears Air Duct cleaning too but later I decided to hire them. After nearly two weeks from the day I called, I got the service at my house. They called ahead as I requested to them because we don't live over there yet. When they show up, they came in and asked for the Furnace and checked around. Within 10 minutes they start at the second floor. The vacuum bag (big big one) has several holes and when they start the machine there were a lot of dust in my drive way. They didn't cover other vent while they were cleaning on 2nd Floor. (Most of the video on You Tube show they cover all the vent and register and vacuum from down and pressure air from up stair and then coming down. Interestingly what I found is they start vacuum from return duct and they were cleaning on both return and supply vent on each room. And I have two return vent in each room (one in upper and one in lower but in same duct) they clean only the bottom one. When I told them they should take out all the vent cover and do the cleaning on all vent, they answered me that it's on same duct and they vacuuming from the outside so all the dust will go down. And I took out some vent and there were still some animal hair between grill and some dust between the line where the duct connect. They answered me that they clean only lose particle. And I showed them what Stanley Steemer claimed on their web page about their service and what are the steps. And they said nobody is perfect and they are not 100% perfect too. I don't want to argue with them for long due to my other things to do in the house. I will never hire or use the service of them again. They said they will use variety of agitation tools but I just saw only 3 feet long compressed air tip, JUST ONLY 3 FEET LONG, so how they are cleaning entire duct? And they said they will provide their customer with before and after photo. There were no photo for us. Even some dirt inside the return duct were not clean and I had to point out them to clean up. read more

I scheduled online Friday and was able to pick anytime on Saturday. I selected between 10-1 and they called about 10:15 and said they would be at our house in 20 minutes. 20 minutes later they arrived and were very professional. They got right to work on 2 bedrooms, hallway and stairs. It took them about 45 minutes and our carpets looked amazing! We have had Sears come out multiple times over the past 10 years. We have a dog, 2 cats and 2 kids so we need it done often. I will never use Sears again! They would be done in 20 minutes and our floors were always left soaking wet. Stanley got out stains that Sears said they couldn't, our carpets were slightly damp but nothing like the wetness after Sears. Both gentleman were kind and professional. We will be sure to ask for Michael and Tim the next time! Stanley Steemer is slightly more expensive than other cleaners but absolutely worth it! read more

i had carpet cleaned in three rooms. The carpet was cleaned, but 48 hours later I had to clean 5 spots that were not removed. Ironically the spot cleaner they sold me, cleaned the spots with little effort. In addition, I asked them not to move my bedroom furniture. They chose to move it and now I have very heavy furniture elevated on foam pads that I cannot remove. Stanley Steamer should be focused on cleaning and customer service, and stop pushing additional services and products. I will not be a repeat customer. read more

Stanley Steemer came to my home to clean my white carpets. The team was very friendly and efficient but when they left, I was less than satisfied. I called the office and not only was the team out again in a timely manner but the manager of the local office came also. He jumped right in, helped the team clean the carpets, made sure everything was to my satisfaction and stated if there is anything I don't like, call and they will be out again. I had Stanley Steemer come out from the 206 Bilmar location in Pittsburgh - they sent Tim and Mike. We had no problem with them - two very nice men who did a great job. They did our kitchen, living room, laundry room and steps. I have no complaints what so ever and plan on having them back again. read more
