Have you ever called a doctor's office to make an appointment because you dropped something on your…read morefoot, and you want to see if your foot is broken, or cracked or even sprained...and to have the receptionist talk to you in a condescending rude way? If you call here, you will want to jump through the phone, and wring the receptionist's neck. That sounds so extreme, but that's how I felt after getting off the phone with her, and then again having to deal with her when I checked in for my appointment. I didn't appreciate her eye rolls, and under her breath sighs. I was also surprised by her behavior, because she is an older women you would think she would be more professional. The intake nurse was so nice, and helpful. So very kind when taking x-rays of my foot and vitals. Then Dr Dickerson came in and took a look at my x-rays for just a few seconds and said your foot is just fine. I said "Why does it hurt then, it feels like it's broken, especially when I walk." He said he didn't know, but if it continues to hurt come back, and then that was it. I saw him for maybe for 3 or 4 minutes at the most. Weeks later I get a bill from my insurance company saying I owe another $25 for my co-pay. Why did the rude receptionist not charge the correct co-pay in the first place, obviously she isn't very good at her job.

I always research my specialists extensively, and having surgery done by an Olympic team surgeon seemed like the best option possible! The office staff at both the Park City and Murray locations were always very friendly and patient with all of my questions. I particularly liked how the Park City location had an X-ray machine there, so I was able to get X-rays immediately before the doctor saw me instead of making a special trip to do that ahead of time. I am so happy to say that my knee is better than ever after just a few months! I'm hoping not to need knee surgery again, but if I do, there is no doubt that I will see Dr Cooley.

I chose Dr. Larsen for my surgery specifically because he is listed as In-Network with my insurance provider. I have absolutely no complaints about the care I received--Dr. Larsen and his staff were excellent in every clinical aspect. However, the way the surgery was handled from an insurance and billing standpoint was deeply problematic. After it was determined I needed surgery, I met with a staff member of Dr Larsen to schedule it. I was advised to book it 3-4 weeks out due to my insurance's slow approval process. I was told they would notify me if there were any issues. No one ever mentioned that the Surgery Center at Cottonwood--where the procedure would take place--was Out-of-Network. In fact, I wasn't even told where the surgery would be performed until one week before. A week prior, I received a call from the Surgery Center's Billing Department informing me I'd need to pay a specific amount on the day of surgery. When I asked why it was so high, I was told I hadn't met my deductible. That explanation seemed reasonable, so I didn't question it further. Crucially, I was never told this was my Out-of-Network deductible. On the day of surgery, I was handed multiple forms to sign. One disclosed that Dr. Larsen is part-owner of the Surgery Center--standard for conflict-of-interest transparency. But nowhere did I see a clear indication that the facility was Out-of-Network. Two months later, I discovered the claim had been processed as Out-of-Network. I was shocked. I contacted my insurance company, who confirmed that the Surgery Center at Cottonwood is not in-network. I then reached out to Dr. Larsen's office, thinking the claim had been submitted incorrectly. They informed me that Dr. Larsen performs most of his surgeries at that center and that I should have been told this beforehand by the Surgery Center so I should contact them. This was especially surprising because Dr. Larsen's office had assured me they would handle the pre-approval. Clearly, they did not. When I called the Surgery Center, they said most insurance companies consider them Out-of-Network and that I should have been informed during the billing call. They also claimed I signed a form acknowledging this. I asked to see the form. Apparently, one page listed my insurance info with the acronym "OON" next to it--meaning "Out-of-Network." I didn't notice it, nor would I have understood what it meant. I was told to contact the Billing Department to resolve the issue. When I did, I explained that I was never clearly informed. Their response? "It shouldn't matter if it's in or out of network--we adjust our billing to match In-Network rates." That may work for some, but not for me. Had this been billed In-Network, I would have met my Out-of-Pocket Maximum, and subsequent medical expenses for my family would have been fully covered. Instead, I'm now facing over $5,000 in costs that should have been avoided. I was never given a choice of where my surgery would be performed, nor was I informed that the facility was Out-of-Network--despite both the doctor's office and the Surgery Center knowing this. That's not just a miscommunication--it's unethical. I'm currently filing an appeal with my insurance company, though I expect it will be denied since they followed protocol. The fault lies squarely with the doctor's office and the Surgery Center. I'm sharing this so others don't fall into the same trap. Always double-check not just your doctor's network status, but also the facility where your procedure will take place. Ask explicitly. Get it in writing. Don't assume anything.

My daughter was seen today for two in-grown toenails on her big toes. Dr. Hansen couldn't have been…read morenicer or put her more at ease. His bedside manner and sense of humor were just what she needed to help her relax. The medical assistant was also a joy to work with and fun to talk to. The whole staff is excellent. The procedure was smooth and as pain-free as possible, given the circumstance. We were seen within minutes of arriving and left the office in less than an hour. I highly recommend Dr. Hansen and Dr. Larson for all your foot health.

Holy Moly I had a long wait to see Dr Smith. Apparently there was an emergency, and one of his…read morestaff called in sick. I wish they would have called me to tell me that he was running late, so that I didn't have to take so much time off work just to have Dr Smith look at my ankle. If I wasn't in so much pain I would have left, and came back a different day. My appointment was at 4:20pm and I didn't see Dr Smith until 5:40pm. Mind you they close at 5:00pm. The receptionist was vacuuming, and cleaning up to go home, before I was even seen. When Dr Smith did see me, he was ever so nice, and I didn't feel like he was rushing me out the door because it was past closing time. I insisted on taking xrays. I don't know if that was a waste of money, or not, since nothing showed up on the xrays. No breaks or sprains that he could see. He wanted me to wear a boot. (I just got rid of the brand new one that I have never worn, that cost me an arm and leg) I said I didn't want to by another one unless he knew for 100% that it would fix my foot pain. He couldn't guarantee it, so I opted just for an ankle brace, which helps, but still hasn't fixed my foot pain. I'm supposed to go back in two weeks, but I'm just going to see how this ankle brace works first, before I spend another couple hundred dollars for an office visit.

It took a lot for this busy mom to even get to the doctor in the first place and I left feeling so defeated and humiliated. There seemed to be a huge misunderstanding and I am not a confrontational person at all but he snapped at me and said I was interrupting him. I worked in the medical field for years and we would never have treated a patient or spoken to them in the way that he did to me.
