My wife told me she wanted to take the kids to the eye doctor for an eye exam and then get them new glasses. Months went by, and we were still waiting. I was able to go to Stanton Optical in Janesville, Wisconsin, and get them right away. My youngest got what she wanted, and I bought a lot of upgrades, but they gave her temp glasses until her special-order ones were ready in a few days. My oldest daughter had to get a stronger pair of special glasses because of her eyesight. The new ones with all the bells and whistles, as my youngest had, were ready in a week. I got some special reading glasses (Harry Potter-style) the same day; the ordered ones were there in a few days. Now my wife wants to go there to get her glasses. You all did an excellent job, and I was very impressed with how well and fast things went in the store, the eye exams, and the final product. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Firstly feels like you wait forever to be seen and when you do they take you back to a room and have a virtual optometrist. Secondly you pay out the nose for glasses they run a deal for 2 for 79 and the total in no way shape or form comes close to that. Even if you pick 200 dollars frames the total will be close to a grand. My boyfriend wanted to try contacts so they sent him home with the wrong prescription and they completely irritated his eyes. Went somewhere else and they explained they did it incorrectly. Which is ridiculous. Then they give you a quote of when the glasses will be ready and the glasses don't come for almost two months. Lastly once you get said glasses they break 4 times within a year the only good thing you got was the warranty for the year but once it's over it's another almost 500 dollars to get them replaced. Go literally anywhere else. Shitty quality and incompetent workers. Sad you pay so much for such awful products. There's a reason the reviews are awful. read more

I know it's a sign of the times so to say, but I'm not a fan of the "hybrid" eye appointment. The doctor isn't present, you're talking to a screen. It doesn't feel like an accurate prescription. I can indeed see the distance that I couldn't before but my vision is slanted. Everything looks tilted down towards me. I don't know if the frame needs adjusting or if it's the prescription. My husband and I were both getting exams and glasses. Out of 3 in house staff, only one offered to assist, the other 2 were off talking to each other. So instead of getting done in a timely manner I had to wait to be assisted until after my husband. On top of everything, the prices are insane. I receive Stanton optical emails and they show deals like free eye exam, 2 frame deals for $79. The one assisting us never showed us anything on the walls and there are no marked prices on the frames. No indication of sections within sales etc. My husband's bill for a single eye exam and 1 pair of glasses was over $400 and they couldn't make his same day so he's waiting 2 weeks for his. I also got a single pair and eye exam and my tab was just under $300. We will be trying a different eye practice next time we need new glasses. read more

Staff is no knowledgeable how to order glasses. Staff states that it's new software and not totally familiar with it. Was told setting up appointment that there was a special. Staff never ask if that was something I was interested in. Never told me that there was certain frames that only available for offer. She made up an order and told me the price. I then ask about the special and was told that was with different frame, so I sk to see them. Again she make up an order I paid for and when she tell what I paid for I ask what drarking she stated no that was not an option with the special. The third time she try she couldn't figure out how to get me a refund and to call someone. By time I finally got finished 2 hours later I still spend as must as if I would have went elsewhere. On top i ask how much i prescription changed and was never gt an aswer and now it will take 16 daysbefore they will be ready. I will never recommend them or go back to Staton for glasses. The staff is nice. I saw their ad on TV which said $189 dollars for eye exam and a years supply of contact lenses. When the rung me up it was closer to $400 . When I received my order it was 12 contacts for each eye for 2 week contacts. That's 6 months worth. Wasn't going to argue with staff about it. Just took them and left. Also the website said they open at 9. Didn't open til 10. Had to kill time for an hour after working long graveyard shift. Definitely won't return. read more

Its false advertising-exam for $79 and 2 glasses same day. I paid $175 for exam and one pair of glasses that took a month to come in. The eye exam is done with a doctor who is online. My sons prescription didnt change according to them, according to our regular eye doctor, it did change greatly! Total regrets. Waste of time and money read more

I don't normally leave reviews but this was a disaster this time. Original appointment was on August 31st. Had eye exam and picked out two frames. Placed order which was over $400. Received glasses about two weeks later. Really struggled with the new glasses and tried for about 3 weeks to get used to them. Called the number and since it was within 30 days they scheduled an appointment to recheck the glasses. Went on September 28th to have a recheck. Spent about an hour and a half with them trying to figure out what was wrong. Finally agreed to a re-exam. While I was waiting with one of the managers for the eye doctor to be ready, she proceeded to tell a story in which should not have been told to a client you don't know. Exam came back with a different prescription so they placed a remake. Due to a "system upgrade" I waited 5 weeks for my remade glasses. I received a text that both pair were finally in. Went to pick them up and received one pair. Asked about the other and she was too busy getting ready to leave (purse on her shoulder) to look and told me they were not there. Tried the glasses and they were way stretched out. Asked why and she said she didn't know and would see if they could fix it. They tried but still too wide and hurt my ears when I wear them. Went on Monday to get the second pair (which were there if she had looked) and they too were stretched out. I also could not see out of the glasses. Turns out they had put the lenses in the wrong side (I am guessing the same happened to the other pair) and were also stretched out. Now I am out $400 and have no glasses I can wear due to the pain from them being wide due to them not knowing what they were doing. This was my 4th and last time I will be going there. I called the main number to complain and asked for a call back and nothing. I guess no one cares over there or at corporate. read more

This place is a disaster. I was told that they hoped to hCave glasses earlier but that I would definitely have them within 10 days. I paid them over $500. Two months have gone by and I still don't have them. They say they have no way of checking with their lab to see what the stats is. They just keep giving me vague promises that the glasses will come. Fortunately, I paid them with a credit card so that I have the ability to have the credit card company reverse the charge and get my money back from them, which I am going to do. AVOID THIS PLACE. Stanton optical is a SCAM. The bait and switch with an advertised cheap exam then it ends up costin $500-$700 for a pair of glasses. The product is absolutely inferior than all my previous glasses. I am very sorry that I also had my daughter order from here only to have wasted her money also. There is not a eye doctor on site either, they have a "technician" do the exam and then later tell you that a doctor is shared among a bunch of fraNchises and that if you have be any issue, you need to travel to see the doctor. My daughter never got her contact prescription she paid for and Never got her contacts and her expensive glasses scratched, like mine, almost immediately. This place is a total let down. I know having a small staff can make it difficult, but what makes it worse is having an untrained staff. This isn't just a one time thing either, I came here twice over the course of two years. I should have learned the first time, but the prices are cheap for a reason. The signs on the building all say: "$59.99 for two pairs of glasses and a free eye exam." Which will catch anyone's eye on a tight budget. The eye exams are done over a Zoom type setting (weird but I guess this is the future) and the selections of glasses at that low price are of course, nothing you'd even want your Grandma caught dead in. Fast forward, I've picked out my glasses, waited a few weeks, came in and picked them up. Except the woman (to be unnamed) just handed them to me. I needed them to be fitted, to which she said she didn't know how and that I should come back. Of the three people that work there (I've since been told one incompetent man was let go) only one woman even knows how to do any of the things needed. Ultimately, if they had a stellar staff who didn't always rely on one woman all of the time, I'd come back. But after being burned twice, I'll pass. read more

Hands down the worst experience I have ever had with an eye exam. Went in for a contact lens exam and was placed in a room with a video chat exam with a refractionist. She called me by the wrong name, never asked me any questions about eye health or overall happiness with current prescription. They never examined fit of contact lens. So impersonal and completely disappointing. I was never told if my eyes looked healthy, and am left to assume no news is good news. read more

The service was very poor. I went in hoping to see a real doctor and its all electronic. They can't diagnose any medical issues. They also are not very organized. It took over 20 minutes for them to run my insurance and get all of my paper work together. They wanted to fit me for contacts even though I had an infection in my eye. I had a great experience. I've always been afraid of eye exams and they were very knowledgeable and helped sooth my nerves. The virtual doctor was awesome! Went in store no one assisted me in choosing eyeglasses unlike other stores I've visited before, glasses are low class. Just really need eyeglasses. I've checked my order online and said my cp no. Is not listed, means my order is not on going process yet. I've called customer service , checked my order and breakdown of what I've paid for, because they did not give me receipt of breakdown of what I've paid for. I found out that I've paid eye exam, which I did not because I have prescription letter from my optometrist Dr. and gave it to their staff. Staffs are not accommodating , even the one I've talked to the phone was not courteous and pleasant. Everyone was very kind in the store but getting ahold of the janesville location was ridiculous, got 2 pairs of glasses and didn't get a call for either pair, showed up to see if the second pair was done they told me to wait 15 minutes and sat for over an hour. told me they would be done before the end of the day and they would call me to pick up. went back two days later and they said they just finished that morning. was not called once again. there was complications that was out of staffs control which i did not mind. just highly bothered that i was not notified to pick up either pairs of glasses. read more

Went in for the contact lense exam, for which they charge $89. I was given a prescription for glasses and contacts. I had been prescribed bi-focals elsewhere, but the young lady handed me trial contacts that were not. When I specifically asked if I didn't require bi-focals, I was told no. When I got home, I couldn't read anything with the trial lenses in. I took them out and called the store. I explained the situation, and was told that the prescription for glasses was for bi-focals, but the contact prescription was not. When I told her I specifically asked about bi-focal lenses and was told no, I was told that the contact prescription had been written simply to correct one aspect of my vision, and was given a variety of excuses, and then told I would have to drive back up to the store to get the actual correct contact prescription. Needless to say, I am more than irritable. Perhaps, if they had an actual human doctor in the room instead of a face on a screen conducting the exam with a computer, this may not have happened.
