I recently had the pleasure of working with Star Catering and Cafe for an event where we needed 20 boxed lunches, and I can't sing their praises enough! From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. First off, their customer service was outstanding. They were incredibly responsive and accommodating to our needs. The quality of the food was top-notch. Each boxed lunch was beautifully presented and packed with delicious, fresh ingredients. From the sandwiches to the sides and desserts, everything was nicely presented and delicious. They thoughtfully bagged the tomatoes and onions separately from the sandwiches so they didn't get soggy and so that people could choose to add if they wanted. Not only was the food delicious, but the portion sizes were generous, ensuring that everyone left satisfied and happy. The variety of options were great and well suited to our diverse group. On the day of the event their communication was prompt and they actually took the initiative to follow up with us when we were running late to ensure everything was still ok (thank you!). Overall, I can't recommend Star Catering and Cafe highly enough! I wish I could add photos but the food was gone by the time I remembered! read more

Wow! What an amazing hole in the wall! I was recommended here by my coworker. I tried their special gyro (I believe their specials change daily not too sure) but it was huge! I was in food coma afterwards. The space is super clean - which is a huge deal for me. Not only do they serve food here but they offer catering services! Nothing special about the sandwich, it had a decent amount of meat on it. It was not bad, but it was not great. Real stiff employees it seems (my first time going in). I must say I did not expect to pay over $5 for half a sandwich and a small drink, that did not even come with a pickle or slice of orange. I will not be back again. Customer service is horrible. Where are the happy ppl at in this place! No smiles at all from the cafe workers. They look at you if its a burden to them when you come in and order. Funky ass business hours. Limited parking and it's in a small business strip with parking. One lady look like she lives a few doors down at the trailer park. Other lady moves real slow like she's preparing gourmet food. A little pricey but sandwiches are ok(Tuna is what I ordered). That's why I gave a 2 star. Small selection of chips and beverages. Better than Subway and Quiznos. Clean small place. Honestly, I prefer Togo's off top. You get service with a smile and great bigger sandwiches at a better price at Togo's. Ever since this place was sold, the new workers are totally clueless about making the right order. on couple occasions i had to drive back and request to have the right sandwich made. make sure to check your order before leaving this place. in addition the prices are higher, which i did not mind, the portion is smaller and I accepted it, but lousy customer service was not acceptable. the new owner needs to hire qualified worker even if they cost more as he already increased price and reduced portion. read more

I can't attest to their food but one thing I can attest to is their shady business practices. We had placed a catering order for a large meeting we were hosting. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel the meeting and subsequently the order. I was told upfront that there would be a cancellation fee. Totally understandable! They're a catering company and not a restaurant so I know they had to put out money to purchase the items needed to complete the order. Here I am expecting to be charged the cost of the food minus the markup that every company adds on to make a profit. But no, they proceeded to give me a $102 partial refund on a $680 order and then immediately turn around and charge me the partial refund amount as a delivery tip bringing my cancellation fee back up to the original amount of the order. WTF! Totally unacceptable. If you choose to order form these crooks I would be very wary. read more

I live around the area and been wanting to try this place! Would definitely come back, the bf got a chicken club which he completely destroyed. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was fried delicious goodness. I love a place with good fries too and they served a good amount which was enough for 2 people to share easily. I know with covid and being in Hayward might be tough but this is a lunch place that would do well in Oakland and San Francisco, definitely recommend. I organized a large event with over 100 people in attendance this past weekend in Hayward. Someone suggested Star Catering, and that was the company I hired. Being my first time organizing an event from start to finish, I was nervous about every aspect, especially the dinner portion. I am so happy I went with Star Catering. First, the food was very good! That's probably the most important aspect of what you want in a caterer. Secondly, they were very reasonably priced. In addition, they were very prompt and had dinner timed perfectly for our event. There was a slight mix up that was simply a miscommunication early on in the planning. That can happen with any business or situation. What impressed me greatly was their willingness to address that issue and do it in such a way that took care of it completely. Through the entire process, Krish was fantastic. He was friendly, professional, and I will no longer feel nervous when I need catering again. I will most definitely go with Star Catering again. Kudos to Krish and his staff! read more

Wow, Star Catering made it so easy for me! I'm so busy and it was my week to bring breakfast for our department. I wasn't sure how I was going to get everything done until I called Star Catering. With one simple call there was a beautiful breakfast spread delivered, on time. Krish was very accommodating and took care of everything. An Incredible Retirement Party was catered by Star and everyone was IMPRESSED with the abundance & quality of food! We received quotes from many other caterers but Jerry Sousou at Star went above & beyond what we expected with an outdoor BBQ buffet for 40 of our staff honoring a retiring employee. I had a really good first experience with Star, so I decided to use them for a company event. I told the owner, Krish, what my budget was for a specific amount of people and he was extremely attentive and helpful. The food was fantastic! I ordered 40 half sandwiches that came with a heaping side of Cesar salad and potato salad, the fruit platter and a cheese tray that came with crackers. Man do I miss Star cafe. Now that we are in Salem finding a good deli / cafe seems to be impossible. I remember going in for lunch at the cafe and having wonderful meals, especially the soup. Our family used Star for many special occasions (birthdays, anniversarys, party's) and even for Thanksgiving one year when we had a serious family illness and knew we would be unable to prepare it ourselves. Star prepared everything and delivered it the day before along with all the chaffing dishes and utensils. Even heating up the next day everything was wonderful and their efforts allowed us to enjoy a real Thanksgiving meal even during a very hard time. First, i would like to say "Charlie" the owner is great. He is a nice man and makes sure that your food is fresh and your are happy. It is a deli and he caters too. He has catered for me on several occasions and I have no complaints. The food is always fresh and delicious. You pay for the quality of the sandwich and at the same time you are supporting small businesses. I am always in support of that. I don't think it expensive. He also offers diabetic desserts. Ever since the original Vasiliki's closed, I have been forever mourning and longing for my heart and soul, the ever escapable French Dip. Well this tale is of the journey and discovery of the greatest treasure of all sandwhiches. My mom had to get her air conditioning fixed in her car. So we went to our tried and true Insta-Lube magicians. They said that they would see what was up with the car and with the wise advising from the wizard Nguyen, we began the 5 minute (but in the heat and with an empty belly fresh from school, it felt much longer) trek towards the Banquet Hall that was recommended. Upon entering the little hole in the wall, we were instantly surrounded by the wise words of many proverbs and wise actors (my favorite was the Italian Proverb- "Rice is born in water, and must die in wine"). I was not expecting much when I saw a French Dip, so my mom and I agreed that we would share sandwhiches. So upon ordering the Gyro special, French Dip, and Split Pea soup, we sat down in a corner. The Gyro was one of the most delicious gyros I have ever tried, and I have been around. I have tried Olga's gyro (one of the best- gone but not forgotten) and traditional Middle Eastern restaurants. Even the Greek Festival! But this Gyro beats them all like a glass of wine beats a king at a red wedding! (Anyone? LOL!) The split pea soup is the best in the Bay Area. Leave Anderson's in the middle of nowhere, this split pea soup tastes like peas. Delicious, mouth watering, that will scald your mouth in your hot persuit to eat more. Now lastly to my beloved French Dip. It was delicious! The best I have had in a long long time. Juicy steak, bread that soaks up the Au Jus, and the Au Jus!!! THE AU JUS WAS PLENTIFUL! When I unwrapped the paper, the cheese stuck to the paper in such a delicious display of diary deliciousness. Delicious delicious DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! I have eaten here on and off for the last 15yrs. Highlight was the decent amount of roast beef, plenty of leaf lettuce and tomatoes on the sandwiches and their home made chips were delicious!!Just had a roast beef sandwich on sliced sourdough as I usually do and I have to say I was disappointed. Something changed here. Less beef, and one leaf of lettuce. I wish they go back to their old receipe of hearty delicious fresh deli sandwiches. One more thing, if you are making sandwiches, you shouldn't be ringing people up and getting whatever stickiness on the bags which you put the sandwich into. I remember now why I stopped going to this place for lunch. I just ordered a french dip and brought it back to my office with me. Three bites in and I can't stand to eat another because the au jus is so ridiculously salty. It's bullion broth so of course its going to be salty but this is more than I can stand, yet without it its just dry bread with dry meat on it. It's all going in the garbage. It's been a couple of years, but I used to order the BLT which was fine, I remember the lettuce and tomato being very fresh and tasty, and the turkey sandwiches were pretty good too but it's all so overpriced. I visit Star Cafe for lunch about 3 times per week. Their ingredients are super-fresh, and everything I've had has been high quality. I can't get enough of the Chinese Chicken Salad - which is a salad I've never really been a fan of before Star. It's amazingly good. The sandwiches are usually piled high with meat, the roast beef is awesome. About every month or so, they have an outdoor BBQ with various meats, potato salad, corn on the cob, cookies, etc. for a really good price. Star Catering saved our lives. Our home in Fremont was for sale, and we were renting in Sacramento waiting for it to sell so we could buy another when the saddest, most unthinkable thing happened; my mother-in-law died unexpectedly. Between Grissom's funeral home and our realtor's office, we were frazzled. We knew we wouldn't be able to prepare food for the reception, so I looked online for a caterer. I found Star Catering AND THANK GOD I DID! I reviewed the menu, ordered a variety of trays, chose a delivery time, and paid ALL ONLINE. I even changed the order to pick up because I realized I couldn't guarantee a delivery window with no issues! Here's the best part: the food was ready and prepared to order, beautifully laid out and transportable, included napkins and plates and utensils to serve, and TASTED DELICIOUS! The wraps, cold cuts, tea sandwiches, fruit and vegetable trays were devoured. The dessert tray almost started a fight until they noticed the cookie tray! The food easily serves 40-50 people and cost around $500 - well worth it! It was stress free and easy clean-up. I will DEFINITELY use them again. Trust me, you should, too. read more

I work at a large manufacturing facility in Hayward and had to order lunch for a staff meeting for 12. I placed our order on-line. The ordering process was relatively smooth. I decided to write a review due to the good service and the good food. We ordered their Xpress Boxed Lunches, sodas and one Cobb salad. I ended up calling Star Catering a few hours before delivery to add on the salad, due to a last minute dietary restriction. They were very accommodating with my request. It was convenient and I was surprised to get an email with up-to-date information about the delivery (i.e. on his way, he had arrived). This made it easy for me to make sure I met him at our front door/lobby. We will definitely go back to Star Catering for more of our events! read more
