My boyfriend and I came up to the register and the cashier saw us but decided to leave. She was returning some baskets and never came back. I was stunned. We went to a different lane and left. They have a good clean produce section. That is what I come here for unless there is a sale on pop or other stuff. All the other products are highly overpriced. No one seems happy here. No one smiles or asks to help you or talk to you at all. I guess management hasn't heard about the benefits of good customer service. It reduces employee turnover and retains customers. PS. Think of it as a painless immunization. The beekeeper has her beehives right behind at her Carpenter Street house. More Good News: Gosh, what a cute cultural market! The salespeople are so sweet and friendly. The love for what they specialize in or do shines through in their smiles. The market is like none of the others in the city due to its Latin American cultural roots and flavors. They have private, original art for sale (meet the artisans themselves), fresh vegetables, breakfast items, coffee/tea/mate, delicious-looking pastries, dog treats, and my favorite...local honey products. Today we stopped there after grabbing some coffee on 18th and Carpenter ;-). We picked up some juicy tomatoes, corn, onions, grape tomatoes, potatoes and garlic. I also grabbed some chicken and mole and ground beef and potatoes empanadas on the way out for our lunch. We reheated them on the panini grill at lunch time. I also scored some fun peach jam. Can't wait to go back next week and try the fresh bread, pastries, vegetarian tamales and tarts. I figure we will take our own "carry out" bags to do good for the environment and take a blanket with so we can turn our Farmer's Market walk into a Sunday picnic. Farmer's Market ends Oct. 28 for 2013. I'm sad I didn't start going sooner but I plan on grabbing some treats from now til then.

I love their B-Bar line of meats and frozen products - especially the 6-packs of corn dogs for $1.49! I was there today and I love getting boxes of Mac&Cheese for $0.35 each and huge bags of chicken nuggets for less than $4! They even stock some healthier food labels now and while their produce section may not be the freshest - it's some of the cheapest I've found (though I stick to the canned goods for price and flavor). A word of advice: the shopping carts take a 25-cent deposit (which you get back when you lock it back up) and if you don't bring your own grocery bags from home, be prepared to pay $0.10 each for ALDI's plastic shopping bags (good news is they're really strong and fit a bunch). I was shocked to see that this ALDI hadn't made it to Yelp yet - so I'm certainly adding it because it's nice to have an ALDI that's quick to get to by bus (it's along the #47).

A lot of people just don't know about it. The beers are the best things but it also has more. A lot of the beers seem to have a theme about care. It's about $7 a pint. Best of the ones we had was the Miaou. This is a dry hopped Belgian style wheat. Hoppy while still being not too hoppy. There's also pizza. Kind of limited and expensive. The pizza mostly has meaty toppings. Has to be one of the most interesting places in this pretty rough area. It's pretty cool to come when the rest of the vendors here are open. They're closed Mondays to Wednesdays.
