Their produce is excellent -- perhaps the best in town -- but I've purchased spoiled chicken from them at least 4 times in the last few years. (One of those items, I attempted to return the spoiled chicken on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't find a manager, so I just left it in the office.) I was originally going to rate it 3 stars but I had to go down to one after the embarrassment they made me pass. The three stars came from the service. The workers are all distracted on their phones blocking the way. They don't greet your or say hello. They seem more interested in talking to one another. I rated it one star because once I paid for my items and walked out, I heard someone trying to get someone's attention yelling excuse me. I kept walking because I had just paid. But it was for me. The cashier manager came up to me to tell me I didn't pay. I was very confused because I paid for everything. She pointed at the water and I said no I paid for that because I even pulled it up for the cashier to scan and she told me I didn't have to carry it that she has the code. The other cashier took my receipt and brought me back into the store loudly stating I hadnt paid. A few other customers heard and looked right at me and laughed. It was the most embarrassing thing ever. I asked if the cashier was new or what the issue was because then I carried something for no reason. She said she wasn't and that she forgot. I stated that her forgetfulness caused me a great deal of embarrassment as I did my part in even showing her the barcode on the water. She said embarrassment? What are you talking about and that's when k told her that other customers heard her loud exclamations and she turned to look and the people that had laughed at me turned around so quick. I know this may be silly to some but I don't like being treated like I purposefully stole something. The cashier herself said, oh I forgot to charge her? Because she wasn't aware she hadn't. If I really wanted to steal it, I wouldn't have told the cashier I had let alone carry it for her to see it. In the end they kept my original receipt and just gave me the one for the water. Now, however, the produce department looks horrible! product is in bad condition, it is TERRIBLE! The best tamales i ever have in my entire life. Haha. Well, never tried other tamales food cart but i don't need to. The taste of her pork tamales, chicken tamales, and cheese tamales are very delicious for me already. Am quite satisfied already. There was that tamales in California that was bougee but I still prefer the tamales from this lady. She knows my face for sure because whenever I want some tamales , i go to her. She closed on Mondays though. There was a time when I buy her tamales everyday especially the pork tamales. I got addicted to it. I still go there from time to time. You pay in cash by the way. It's $1.75 each. I love her champorado also. Cheaper than Starbucks plus it's also tasty. It's $3. Cermak Fresh a really awesome convenience market, but is not a great shop for weekly groceries. The produce is really great and the produce section is very nicely displayed and tended to, so I have no complaints there. We prepare salads for lunch every weekday, so appreciate the quality and selection of fruits and vegetables. They also have washed, pre-packaged greens (mostly spinach) that stay fresh for almost a full week. We like mixed greens and there is usually at least 1-2 packages of these, but not much. For other groceries, the selection is limited and more expensive than Mariano's. There will be at least 1 option of most things you need, but you won't have a ton of options. In this respect, I regard Cermak Fresh more of a convenience store, since we live closer to it, than Mariano's. So thankful it's there and willing to sacrifice some and pay more for the convenience. The selection of baked goods also leaves much to be desired. Most of it seems pre-packaged or doesn't appear fresh. They do have a variety of sweets, cakes, and desserts, though. I haven't had the courage to try a lot of the more unique desserts that cater to the diverse Bridgeport population. They may be good, but I'm too nervous to try and don't want a bad experience to potentially ruin the dish for me! Overall, Cermak Fresh is a small cute market that is clean and convenient. I'm very happy to go and support them. We still go a few times a month when we don't feel like dealing with Mariano's or if we need a 1-off ingredient for dinner, but it's not our regular grocery store. read more

This cramped grocery store in Bridgeport is regularly packed as the quickstop for neighbors. It doesn't have selection of Marianos, but the the convenience makes it a common stop of mine on the way hope to grab a few items. Craft beer selection is small but doable, although most 6-packs are $2 more than you can pay elsewhere, so I don't make this my regular buy. The in-story spicy Guac is worth it. Checkers are almost all high school students--usually fast and polite. The managers seem to work hard, but occasionally you get a huge backup while we wait for a manager to scan alcohol, since nobody on the line will be able to. They should consider having at least a back-up checker or two who is older who can do this. read more

Came right out. Way too many people treating their masks like some chin guard despite all the signs posted throughout the store. There are no workers manning the entrance providing limited entry to ensure social distancing. With that many workers you can easily do a head count and enforce masks at the entrance. What's the point of having all those signs and employees if you're not going use them effectively? Clearly it's all a show here. Safety is not a priority at this location. Not worth it! read more

It gets really crowded after 5 during the week. Don't try to park in the lot. You'll be stuck getting in or out. Best to find parking on the street. Fruits & veggies prices are fair. But you have to remember that you will need to eat them as soon as possible. They will get bad fast. But if you'll be eating or cooking then right away, then no worries. The prices at the deli beats the larger grocery chains. Bought Krestchmar ham for $2.99/lb. so that's a bargain. Prices over all are decent but some things can be high. I love this grocery store. The produce is always cheap and fresh. I can usually find a resemble sale on the meat. This store provides a better option then my local Jewels. Amazon locker is out front of the entrance of the store. You can find a local tamale stand out front. The parking lot can be a little bit of a challenge sometimes with only one entrance and exit. Please bring a quarter with you so you can unlock a shopping cart. The shopping carts are always clean and free of trash. read more

The Good- The produce is well stocked and their spelling of "beats" as opposed to "beets" made my day. Their meat department is impressive though with pristine displays of various seafood. The Bad- I feel this market is grossly overpriced for everyday items. $5+ for things like chips and juice is just outrageous. The Ugly- The parking lot is a nightmare, no joke. That and having to pay a quarter, yes .25¢ to rent a freaking grocery cart is just absurd. read more

Order for carnitas rude lady getting angry for asking her what I wanted and ask her for salsa angry like the broad on her monthly plan said she doesn't have any. They need to retrain employees for improvement in customer service. I work in retail and if I'm manger I'll either retrain them or get them fired. They need to treat customers better. read more

It's been a along time since Bridgeport had a decent store that sells fresh veggies and more. I was glad to see someone move in to the old run down Jewel that went out of business a few years back. I love the great selection of vegetable and the meat market has a large variety to choose from. I was even surprised to see a small selection of fish here. The store reminds me of Caputo's (Suburban fresh market), Stanley's (Fruit and Vegetable) and Aldi (for the quarter shopping carts). They have a large parking lot , if you're lucky you find a empty spot. read more

When the Cermak Halsted store opened I would shop there for a few items. Overall the store was overpriced for my budget. Over the years, I've noticed their prices lowering and becoming competitive with other stores in the area. But customer service needs to be improved upon. Several times I have gone to purchase an item on sale and it wasn't in. I've been offered a replacement item for sale price but in the case that I did not want the replacement item, I was denied a rain check. Only told (well lied to) that I should check back the next day as shipment would be in. As someone who uses public transportation, I really don't have time or energy to stop by everyday to check. I even emailed the company and received no reply. Their meat section is the only thing worthwhile and their selection of Asian food saves me a trip to Chinatown but as much as I want to make this my main store I cant because of their customer service. Worst customer service ever, I don't know why it is but the cashiers are always so rude here. They do not acknowledge customers at all. They just tell us our total and that's it, give us a mean mug look. I understand if they are going through something but don't take it out on customers that are polite and greet you. It's evident that someone has invested a lot of money into modernizing and tweaking to squeeze every useable crevice out of this small format, neighborhood grocery store. There's a plethora of live seafood, meats, Asian, Caribbean and Mexican vegetables and other products. Hell they even have different flavors of Perrier, which -impresses- me. You just don't find Perrier often in Bridgeport, especially not in the large, glass bottles! There's a variety of extra virgin olive oils, frozen dinners and niche snack foods, along with a decent-sized dairy section. Maybe this will make the Walgreens store across the street finally quit dicking around, remodel and get serious about serving this community. 2007. That's how long it's been since we Bridgeportonians (terrians? ites?) have gone sans a walkable fresh grocery store in these parts. Does anyone remember the tiny, ancient Jewel that was in this same space, cobwebs in betwixt the grapes and all? Ew. You that saying " you get what you pay for," well that is how I feel about Cermak Fresh Market. I hope here frequently because it's close by the house, the produce is cheap and the meat is a decent price. The big problem we had Cermak is that we fell for their sale on liter Coke and Sprite $1.00 a liter which our fault to have fallen for such a deal. When we used it a few days later for a birthday party the soda was flat and tasted old. We never opened the soda and it was nasty. Be careful of what you buy at Cermak Fresh market, I for the most part it does the trick when it comes to getting items for dinner and lunch. I wouldn't get of their liter soda ever again. read more

This location is bigger than the Cermak on North Avenue. Therefore, the selection is better and there are more services. However, I miss having a dried nuts, fruit, etc selection. I didn't see a freshly made bread section either. I have been to all of the Cermaks around the area and find this one to be the largest and most fitting for my needs. First off, I need to give Cermak chain a shoutout for stocking their stores depending on their demographic- I love that they cater to the neighborhood they're in. This Cermak had the largest abundance of Asian groceries, catering to the Chinatown overspill/Chinese residents in BPort such as myself :D I can come here and get anything I ever need for my dishes, including: galangal, lemongrass, different tofus, Chinese eggplant, napa cabbage, bok Choy, Thai bird eye chili, wonton wrappers, etc. Huge kudos to that! I come to Cermak for most veggie needs and get pantry goods from Jewel. The meat from Cermak is generally fresh and no complaints, though sometimes the cuts on sale aren't the best, but hey, for the price what do you expect ? I'm docking a star because once or twice I have gotten their bakery discounted 99 cent cake slices on sale only to have found that the cream inside has soured. Welp, I know why it's on sale then! Luckily, this is easily avoidable by not purchasing the prepared goods and sticking with fresh fruits and vegetables and meats. Also, they recently started carrying a prepared sushi and Japanese appetizers case by their deli, and the sushi is actually decent as heck for grocery store sushi. Plus, if you're not squeamish and have an iron stomach, you can get it for 50% off after 7 pm and take them to lunch the next day. read more

The Cermak on Halsted is a fabulous grocery store with some limitations that you should be aware of. The biggest draw here is the varied produce selection that caters to both Asian and Hispanic audiences at prices that are substantially lower than Jewel and Mariano's. They also have a pretty decent selection of South Asian and Middle Eastern items in their ethnic aisle. I think the meat is perfectly fine, especially if you get it from behind the counter where it's fresher. There is a markup on packaged and shelf stable goods (e.g. bag of sugar or bag of flour), especially the items that would be considered loss leaders at Jewel. The produce quality, pricing and selection more than make up for these shortcomings. I shop at Costco anyway and manage to get most of the overpriced/deficient items there. read more

Been shopping here for over 6 years and all I can say is DO NOT SHOP HERE ON TUESDAYS!! They pull everything that is still on the weekly sale - especially meats - to save them for the next day when they're not on sale to jack up the prices. This is my go to place for groceries. I live close by so it's incredibly convenient and the prices are as cheap as it gets! There are always different specials and sales going on everyday, which is great. Cermak market is pretty huge, so odds are you're gonna be able to find whatever you need here without having to drive all around town for groceries. Cermak has an amazing selection of fresh fruits and vegetables (did I mention it's cheap?). I always get tempted by the bakery area. There are a variety of pastries, cakes and drinks. They make fresh french baguettes that are hot and crusty on the outside and soft on the inside - I find myself shamelessly snacking on it while on shopping, lol. The deli is great as well with different fresh cheeses and meats. There is also a wide variety of seafood and meats too. I'll definitely be back over and over again! read more

This is a pretty good store. It is clean and spacious. They do not have as many as the selection that other grocery store has but they have a fine selection of goodies. I like their fresh produce in the produce section and it just literally have a variety of choices. Other selection are also nice but I can say that it is limited. It is a nice grocery store for a quick because it doesn't really have the goodies that I needed for a whole month just like how I buy my groceries. The downside in here is their customer service. Can't beat these prices! Selection is pretty on point as well. However, quality and service leave much to be desired. The produce especially ranges from decomposing to firm. I once ended up going two days in a row and the grapefruit went from 3/$1.50 to 3/$1.00 because they were trying to get rid of the last bits of bad fruit. Shelves are stocked with tons of great Latin-American options, and there's a bakery in the back with fresh treats. There's a pretty decent beer selection and lots of cheap wine in the back too. As for service, workers range from nice to rude. I'm usually greeted with a smile from the stockers. One time I ended up shopping until 10 pm (their closing time... I know, I suck) and the cashier and bagger were making unrefined comments about us in Spanish... in front of my Latina friend. Don't know if they didn't care or acted out of spite, but it was very unprofesh and we were trying our best to hurry up and get out of there. Finally, CP Halsted is open, and has lived up to my expectations. No, that's wrong, it exceeded them. Today was the opening day, so it was kind of pandemonium in the aisles, but the staff was completely on it re-stocking and cleaning up the shelves. I was greatly impressed by the variety of produce, fish, meat, and deli selections, clearly stocked with the cultural groups living in the area in mind: Mexican, Chinese, Italian, and even a bit of Indian. There were even specials on live lobsters, live conch, and some other live crustaceans I hadn't even seen before. The renovation of the store was done really nicely, making it look much more upscale than the other CP locations. Thankfully the prices of the items for sale didn't reflect this approach. Needless to say, I will never go out of my way to grocery shop again - everything I need is right down the street at a very reasonable price. To give you an idea, I walked out with two large bags of produce, dried fruits, nuts, deli items, and chips for under $40. read more
