More on that later, but let's talk about the group. The Old Schoolhouse Players (OSP) is a community theater group established in 1992 with the primary goal of bringing quality theatrical performances to the Hickory and Washington County areas in Pennsylvania. Over the years, OSP has presented over 100 dramatic and musical productions, enriching the local arts scene and fostering a strong sense of community through a shared love of theater. OSP was formed in 1992 by a group of passionate individuals who wanted to create a platform for local actors, singers, dancers, and theater enthusiasts to come together and showcase their talents. The theater group is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to nurturing the arts within the community and providing opportunities for members to develop their skills and passion for theater. OSP stages their productions in the Bud Allison Auditorium, located within the historically preserved Mount Pleasant Township Community Center at 20 Wasbash Avenue in Hickory, Pennsylvania. This charming venue offers an intimate theater experience for audiences and performers alike, with comfortable seating and excellent acoustics. Restrooms are downstairs, but they do have a handicap-accessible restroom on the first floor on the theater level. Notable Productions: Over the years, the Old Schoolhouse Players have presented a diverse range of theatrical productions, including popular musicals, dramatic plays, and original works. Some notable past productions include "The Sound of Music," "A Christmas Carol," "The Wizard of Oz," and "Our Town," among many others. Each production is carefully selected to appeal to a wide audience and showcase the talents of the theater group's members. I attended several performances here in May of this year, for a great production of Clue. The internationally popular game is a fun-filled musical adaptation that brings the world's best-known suspects to life and invites the audience to help solve the mystery: who killed Mr. Boddy, in what room, and with what weapon. The audience receives forms to help them deduce the solution from clues given throughout the fun-filled evening. Three audience members choose from cards representing the potential murderers, weapons, and rooms; there are 216 possible solutions! Only one hard-nosed female detective is qualified to unravel the merry mayhem. Comic antics, witty lyrics, and a beguiling score carry the investigation from room to room. Even after the culprit confesses, a surprise twist delights the audience. This colorful crowd-pleaser was devised by the authors of Murder at Rutherford House and other popular interactive entertainments. My daughter gave a fabulous portrayal that brought Miss Scarlet to life, creating a multi-dimensional character that was both enigmatic and charming. Catherine's portrayal of Miss Scarlet in Clue was nothing short of extraordinary. Her undeniable talent, beautiful vocals, charisma, and dedication to her craft made her a true force to be reckoned with on stage. She really rocked the blonde look, too! Also performing was my son-in-law, who not only sang but also danced with Catherine, which were my favorite moments. Alan's portrayal of Mr. Green in Clue was nothing short of outstanding. His hard work and passion for theater shone through, as he showcased his undeniable talent, charisma, and commitment to his craft, making for one of my most unforgettable performances that was both dynamic and energetic and lots of fun! Bottom Line: My experience with the Old Schoolhouse Players' production of Clue was truly unforgettable. The outstanding performances by the cast showcased their talent, dedication, and passion for theater. The intimate venue and engaging audience interaction made this theatrical experience even more special. We just experienced a wonderful production of "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying"…read more The cast all had terrific vocal abilities as well as dancing abilities. The live orchestra was spot on with the music. It was amazing to watch the actors freeze their action spread throughout the stage while another cast member sang and danced a solo. Excellent direction by Mike Cavalier and his choreography were key reasons this cast performed so well. The auditorium sound system and lighting director added to our entertaining evening. A clever set design used elevators, swinging doors, and even speedy scene changes to quickly change from various offices, street scenes and the mail room. Excellent work. The performances were great as was the set design, sound, etc. The theater is a nice size. There is a decent size parking lot adjacent to the main building plus plenty of overflow parking close by. They had a concession area and gift shop set up in the lobby for snacks and show related keepsakes. This is a great local theater venue and cannot wait to bring the kids back.

My daughter has been in shows here and I had a distinct pleasure, on Father's day, of attending a most excellent production of "Harps and Harmonicas". She is currently looking to be in one or more productions here in the near future and I have been impressed with the people involved in this great little community theater both out front and behind the scenes. This season (202) has The Boys Next Door, The Mad Ones, Doubt: A Parable and Musical on tap so far this season. With a partnership with AHN, they direct you with ample signage and the lot is simple to enter right across from the theater! The area is beautiful and very safe! Tree lined sidewalks and clean areas around. The theater is a little outdated in entry. For a small capacity, you stood outside in line for an extended time due to a single ticket taker with a clipboard list. This delayed the performance by 15 minutes as he struggled to check people in. The lobby is centered around a bar for refreshments. The tickets are sold per section (A-D) without specific assigned seats. We set in the mezzanine and entered through the second floor. Some of the seats are "dangerous" with small catwalks and seats perched with no floor behind them. My friend actually lost her shoe mid performance as it fell through the opening. The productions are limited in set design and technology due to the theater size but there are plenty of plays and shows that don't require as much. If you have a chance to check out New Hazlett, I'd definitely recommend it.

There are resident companies that use the space, but various organizations and companies can also rent the space. Which means there is a nice mix of programming available. There are seats around the stage (which aren't always used for each performance) and upper and lower level seating. One thing to note is that their seats are not that wide, so if you are a larger patron or have a wider bottom, it will be a tight squeeze. Sight lines are great from everywhere and it is easy to hear. Parking is available for free in the garage right near the theater. A great place to catch a show!

I was in a few shows when I lived here and I saw many more - always enjoyable productions. There's usually a show every 1-2 months. If you're interested in theatre, you'll definitely want to see or audition for a show at Towngate, part of the Oglebay Institute. They do a fair mix of shows-everyone-has-heard-of, obscure stuffs and original work.

However, I wonder if they could get some donations from one of the local coffee shops, sell the beverage for more, and raise more funds. I recently attended Wicked: For Good at the Canton Palace Theatre in Canton, Ohio, and…read moreunfortunately the experience was overshadowed by a situation that should never have been allowed to continue. Throughout nearly the entire movie, two girls (roughly between 9-13 years old) were loudly giggling and talking. At one point, someone from the theatre came in, told them to quiet down, and then left. The noise immediately resumed and continued for the rest of the film. This alone made it extremely difficult to enjoy what should have been a great movie experience. When the movie ended, the same two girls ran up and down the aisles screaming. I later learned they were either the children of, or under the supervision of, a theatre employee -- specifically the same person who briefly told them to be quiet earlier. They were also seated in a rear section where patrons are apparently not even allowed to sit. There were very few people in the theatre, which made the lack of enforcement and professionalism even more noticeable. If this is typical of how screenings are handled, it raises serious concerns about management and customer experience. I believe the audience deserved better intervention during the film, and frankly, an apology or compensation would be appropriate given how disruptive the situation was. The Canton Palace Theatre is a beautiful venue with a lot of potential, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. I hope management takes this kind of situation seriously moving forward so guests can actually enjoy the movies they pay to see.

The ceiling of the theater shows a dark starry sky with clouds that rotates around, which is a super cool feature. The ushers were helpful pre-show. My biggest complaint is that the lobby is ridiculously small/crowded for the amount of people the theater accommodates.
