We went on opening day, so they were well prepared and everything went smoothly. The food was decent, you know typical buffet foods. The thing I did like was the place was nice and big and there was a good variety of sushi. I'm also a big fan of roasted duck, so that was a plus in my book. There was almost zero taste to anything and the few things that did taste like something tasted like grease. From the fruit to the sushi the entire meal consisted of a single bite of a bunch of things trying to find a flavor and ended up full of nothing worthwhile. Go somewhere else. read more

This restaurant used to be my family's favorite Chinese buffet in town. The past few times that we have gone had been less than satisfactory. The food has tasted like they have forgot how to cook American Chinese food. The wells are constantly empty. And the food is stale. Which brings us to the crab legs. My family and I always go at dinner time, so we can get crab legs. The last three times we have been there they have not had crab legs! They have had crab leg water... but no crab legs. My favorite buffet in Rochester. Huge selection of Americanized Chinese food. Super sad they didn't have the scallops there when I went tonight. Crawfish was good, hibachi / Mongolian grill was also good. I enjoyed the sushi selection a lot but a lot of my pieces were hard - kind of tasted like it was sitting for awhile. The server cleared our tables fast so that was a plus. I wish they had a bigger selection of ice cream or more toppings. read more

This is my new favorite Chinese buffet in town. Definitely recommend it. Of course, it would be nice if they had real sushi, but you can't get everything in one place. It was by far the most disgusting food I've ever had. Mongolian grill had chicken that was in the crisper but had been in all day it seemed that some of the chicken had dried out completely. Walking in your expectations are high with the beautiful water and live plants. You pay before you eat and prices are comparable to other buffets in town. The selection is great and the salad and sushi bar have more choices than the other Chinese style buffets in Rochester. They keep the place clean and the food is hot and fresh. The first time I went here it's really good. Went a couple months later and it was so-so. Gave it a third go and it was gross. Went here for dinner tonight, and I can't see where the bad reviews come from. This place has a great variety of food. All fresh, they switch out the old and empty pans immediately. I had some steak, fried rice, asparagus and the Fried Chicken wings. And it was all good!!! Great pricing too. Both me and the wife ate for under $28 buck. This place gets a 4 out of 5 stars. Impressive array of food! The name is a little misleading as it sounds like a seafood buffet. But while there is seafood (shrimp, tilapia), this is largely a decadent Chinese food buffet. Fresh trays were brought out with regularity--no heat lamps. Decent salad bar, dim sum, and a Mongolian BBQ station as well. Even sushi! Large bottles of rooster sauce on the tables (score!). Good hot tea as well, excellent service, and there were fortune cookies at the end with wet naps. We will be back for sure. read more

I have been to a lot of buffets and usually compare any new place to Vegas buffets, and for a smallish town like Rochester this was up there as far as quality. Also very cheap. We were going to st. Olaf for chess tournament and decided to stop here for lunch. We got there at 11 when they opened. Sushi was really good, it was a Sunday so dinner options. We were first people there and they had maybe 8 pieces of salmon and tuna sushi, once that was gone, other people did come, sushi person did not put anymore out. Maybe they are told to limit sushi. Other food was really good. We went on way home, they are open until 9:30, we arrived at 8:30. Went to sushi area, of course empty based on my thought of early arrival. When I asked sushi guy said he was not Making anymore. I did get my money back and was told kitchen closes at 8:45, I guess sushi closes earlier. Person said they do let people in later, with kitchen closed, since there is still food. Why not just say close at 8 and alow people to finish? Would not go back if I was in town. Maybe manager instructs sushi person to limit sushi, either way bad experience. read more

My wife and I visited this buffet around 4:00 p.m. September 25, 2018. A senior meal was $12.00 per person. Not too bad. I have traveled around the world and have never eaten in a Chinese buffet where every dish I took was lousy. The shrimp were rubbery and tasted freezer burnt. The fried rice was as flavorful as plain rice. The crab claws were made of surimi (imitation crab) and tasteless. The green beans were not too bad but they were cold. The chicken wings were over cooked and tough. I'm surprised that they even stay in business. I give it one star because there is no lower rating available. read more

They owe me stars for reviewing this place! When they first opened the food was pretty decent and the place was always busy. Came here tonight for dinner and at 6pm on a Wednesday there is maybe a third of the tables seated. The food has really gone far downhill and tonight is the worst. I believe that everything currently being offered for dinner is just what they have leftover from lunch. A lot of the food items were both over cooked as well as almost cold. The other thing they owe me is money back on my dinner. They charge more for dinner than lunch because they advertise that they serve crab every night. Tonight there is not even a spot for them to be served. No empty pot of crab water nothing. False advertisement and I think they owe everyone $3 off our meals. This will be my last visit here because you can go to one of the other buffets in town and pay less for better food And crab legs. read more

Been here 3x already and yeah it gets packed on the weekends but hey, it is Rochester. All new restaurants are like that. They have a great selection of food along with Mongolian BBQ, salad bar, and sushi. I love how they serve crab legs Saturdays (I went on this day) and Sundays (I think). They had a person manning the crab legs so people couldn't just come up and empty the entire tray which I thought was pretty awesome. My only complaint is that I wish the dessert section had more of a selection but I guess you can't have it all. Service is excellent and they're constantly refilling the food so A+! read more

My wife and I ate here today, and we both agree that this is the best buffet ever. Anyone giving a negative review, must have the wrong business or they work for another buffet. We ate for $10 each for 2 seniors and was super impressed with no waiting, the cleanliness of the entire place, the service and the attitude of all the workers. The salads were outstanding and everything was very delicious. As a man, I put a little bit of only a smidgeon of the total variety of main dishes on my plate and went back another 2 times. There were probably 5 or 6 separate tables of food, plus the large salad section and the dessert section. We both stuffed ourselves and didn't even get to the desserts, but did grab some jello salads and other things from the salad table. We are returning tomorrow and will, this time, get to that dessert table. Man! This is a great place. Don't let anyone fool you with their false accusations of this place not being worth it. Try it and you will want to come back too. This was all very outstanding food and they kept everything fresh and even the fruit was very tasty. read more

Just stopped in to the Star Ocean Buffet for lunch. Cost was $9.99 +tax and apparently includes pop/coffee but no one mentioned it to me until I left. Selection was good and the food was about average as far as taste and quality. The sushi was disappointing as well as the limited deserts. The salads selection and quality was above average and it does include a HuHut like round stone customized stir-fry. I really wanted to like this place because I live 2 blocks from it. I just don't see a good reason to pay a higher price than Sky-Dragon for slightly lower quality food. By the way, they did a great job of the remodel from OCB, but the table configuration is odd. This buffet leaves a lot to be desired. The crab rangoons are horrid and the beef with broccoli was the worst I've ever had. If that was beef, I would be really suprised. Subpar chinese food at its finest. The only things I liked on the buffet were the potstickers and the lo mein. Plus, the seating is horrible. We were a party of two and they say us at a table that sat 12. Then they say a family of 8 at our table with loud children, and we couldn't even feel comfortable having a conversation since people were literally sitting with us and watching us eat. It's a buffet place - great customer service! Refills included, they even have a grill guy like a hibachi that you can tip. Plenty of food items from sushi to Chinese restaurant staples. And the lunch price makes it quite a deal especially if you plan on having quite a few plates. Can't wait to see how the take out works. read more

I will give it a positive note that the sushi selection is decent; however, you can go to Kumo Sushi for around the same price for that. The main problem is absolutely no snow crab on a Saturday night, for an hour and a half, twice. For the price they want and for advertising snow crab, they should have it available. read more
