The Star Plunge brings back a lot of memories. I learned how to swim here, received my first aid and CPR qualifications. The one thing I do miss is the, "Screaming Mimi." It was so much fun-racing with my friends, hearing the clacking of the rails going faster and faster until we hit the water skipping like a flat stone trying to touch the wall on the other side. Even decades after graduation, I still remember the great times-the high dives outside, the lobster pots, the vapor cave, the arcade. I spent my allowance trying to beat the bad guys in the games. All-day admission (allowing you to leave and return) is $12.50. Credit cards are accepted. Lockers inside the dressing rooms take quarters to release the key, or if you are not worried about anyone taking what you leave there while in the pools, just use one that doesn't lock. There are several pools inside and out with the smaller ones being hotter. There is a diving board, a basketball hoop and enclosed water slides. There is also a smelly steam cave - and a gift shop. Massage is also available - but I forgot to ask about it before, during, or after my time in the pools. The Super Star 500 is over 500 feet long - making it one of the world's longest water slides. Talk about total relaxation. I live in Kentucky... we don't have things like this. The hot springs are awesome. I loved the bubbly pool inside. The outdoor pool was a bit cooler but still warm enough to enjoy. The facility could use some updating but it's not in terrible shape. First of all, the admittance price is a ridiculously good deal. $12.50 for ALL day access 9-9, AND you can leave and come back at any time between those hours- you get a hand stamp that proves you've already paid. This place is CASH ONLY! So come prepared. Anyway, there's an outdoor pool, indoor pool, hot tub, hot hot tub, kiddie hot tub, water slides, and my favorite, the vapor cave- all of which take water from the natural hot springs! The vapor cave is a natural sauna that is beyond extreme...it made me feel clean refreshed and relaxed. Just remember to hydrate afterwards! When I went I was lucky enough to be one of a handful of people there to enjoy a nice intimate experience, this place definitely gets busy during the weekend and holidays. My only complaint is that the indoor pool was in the process of filling up while I was there, but I just waded around, no big deal. The Star Plunge is a natural treasure and thank God it exists for the folks in Wyoming and those who come to visit it. Extremely clean. Very attentive staff, the lifeguard on duty was constantly making his rounds around the facility and checking on all guests- it gets hot and that can sometimes be dangerous! The kids spent a few hours here and were entertained with just jumping off the high jump. Only one slide was open (the other closes before 5pm). The slide hurts when you hit every joint. I tried using a towel, but then there's too much friction so you go much slower and I even stopped close to the end. The hot pool inside isn't really hot, but relaxing. There is also a fun shower that rains a lot of cold water, which is refreshing after the "Lobster pool." Staff doesn't really monitor you and stay at their posts so safety is really your responsibility. Overall, it was a clean and safe place, after 5pm, with less people so social distancing was easier. Coming to metropolis, this was by far my favorite thing I was looking forward to. And this place did not disappoint. The weather was like 40 degrees and the water was great. It was nice and warm and the hot tubs were even warmer. The high dive was really fun and the outside area was very nice. The inside area was cool as well. The lobster pit, vapor cave was really fun. The slide water was COLD but it was fun and really fast. The Only thing I would complain is the slide was a bit rough, the place could use a little remodeling and a couple of the slides were not open. Also the water smelled but that's because of the minerals in the water. Otherwise all of us had a great time and I definitely want to go back. read more

Bring your CASH money or a checkbook to Star Plunge as that is the only currency they accept. It's $12.50 for anyone over the age of 5, and $1 to rent a locker inside the locker rooms. Star Plunge is fun. The indoor water slide is long, and they do allow adults. Once you are spit out at the bottom, be sure to pull the rope to indicate to the person waiting at the top that the slide is clear. The outdoor pool is large and has a high diving platform, as well as a small slide, and a larger slide, which was closed when I was there. Several larger adults cannonballed, to cheers of pool-goers below, and kids where playing water-basketball with the pool's basket. Fun was had by all. Inside there are more pools and a vapor cave, which was a unique experience for me - I'd never been in a vapor cave before. This place certainly has a family friendly vibe, although I did also see some couples there. If you choose Star Plunge, be prepared for kids, bring cash, and you get extra bonus points for any cannonballs off the diving platform. read more

This place is magical and offers one of the most unique life experiences any child and especially grown ups could have...It does need renovations but nothing more. Changing anything about this place would take away from is small town charm. We preferred this place over Hellie's Tepee for it's high dive, fun vibes, hotter pools although the showers at Hellie's were hotter. Definitely worth a spot on your To Do traveling in this area. read more

Wow! I cant believe this place isnt 5 stars. The little town is amazing. We got a hotel IN THE PARK within eye sight of the Star Plunge. Under $13....9am-9pm. Yeah...same price If you are only there 2 hours.... Its ok...you'll live. U probably spent more in starbucks before. Anyways... It was easily the cleanest and most inexpensive Hot Springs pool we have ever been to. We went first thing in the am then returned for sunset. The kids went back and forth all day. We stopped there on the way to Yellowstone and we (2 kids, husband and I) LOVED it. The slides are great (though you might get tossed a bit, and bumped up). Loved the adult vapor room, and every other amenity. Water perfect, staff super friendly. I particularly just loved the old-school laid back feeling. Very relaxing and very fun. We didn't intend to go twice on one road trip, but we loved it so much, we altered our trip to stop there again on the drive home. Highly recommend. We will definitely come back in the future. The water is nice and clean, be prepared for a pretty ripe smell but that's what you get with mineral water. Make sure you bring CASH or check. They don't take cards like 90% of the country.... Your choice in Thermopolis if you want to use the waterslides is either Star Plunge or Hellies. We have been to Hellies before so this trip we opted to try out the Star Plunge. First off, they don't accept credit or debit cards of any kind. However, they will direct you to the convienient ATM machine that is located in their lobby. This particular ATM machine charges $1.50 per transaction and won't allow you to withdrawl more than $40.00 at a time. So for our family of 10, we had to use it twice and got hit with the fee twice. The fee probably goes to the owners of the Star Plunge on top of it. So, note to self and note to you- BRING CASH. The locker rooms were clean and had newish tiles throughout them. Lockers were plentiful and cost $1.00 to use and lock each time. The large slide was closed when we tried to use it. This was frustrating as well since they did not tell us that when we came in and paid full price for all the slides. There is an enclosed tube slide that was kind of slow moving inside of and then a small open slide that was great for the kids. The pools and hot tubs were nice for hot springs. There isn't a real kid friendly or family friendly sitting area to sit with kids or babies. Most of the chairs are right next to the big pool. There are some chairs scattered up the hill which if you are lucky enough to get one- they have a little concrete pad to set up your swim goods on- but still not very kid area friendly. They did allow us to bring in outside food and a cooler- no alcohol or glass. I appreciated this! There was only 1 lifeguard that was there when we were. He was a man who did a great job walking in and out of the inside/outside areas. He seemed to be very attentive to the water and the people. However, almost to attentive in a creepy way. That is just my opinion, he might be a great lifeguard- but just be aware that you should watch your kids and don't rely on someone else to save them or you for that matter. This place was ok, but we will probably return to Hellies the next time we visit Thermopolis. The ATM thing was annoying and the fact that no one told us not all the slides were operating was not very good. read more

I'm a Star Plunge junkie. Most trips from Southwest Montana (where I live) to anywhere east of Southwest Montana take me through Wyoming, and I usually plan the trip specifically to go through Thermopolis, even though taking I-90 would save quite a bit of time. Thermopolis is a real interesting town, and Star Plunge is the most refreshing road trip stop ever. The water's great. I wish I had a "Lobster Pot" in my house (the name of the little bath that has the hottest water in the place). When it's cold, sitting in their outdoors hot pool area is an absolute treat. The "vapor cave" is the hottest wet sauna I've ever been in, and it's marvelous. I've always found it to be quite clean, and it's heckin' cheap. read more

I have gone there a few times while being a local and I was definitely not impressed by the front desk and it was a woman with blond hair also I believe she was the owners daughter and to be the daughter of the owner somthing ain't right, I had never seen before and she just had a attitude right off the bat she treated me and all my friends terrible gave us terrible service and was very snotty I used my mothers membership Iike I had used before multiple times and she was very rude to that fact usually when I go there it is great service with kind people and jokes but she just looked like she didn't want to be there and made the environment very negative my and my friends almost wanted to walk out. We had a blast here, even if the price was a little steep ($12.50 per person). With 2 large slides and a kiddie slide, high diving board and several pools and hot tub areas there was plenty to do. The facility was well maintained with nice dressing rooms (locker for rent $1 in coins) and a calming atmosphere. Make sure to bring cash as they don't except charge. Luckily I had enough with me or I would have had one disappointed boy! I enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor slide, but I will say my son enjoyed it the most. He went down both at least 10 times. For me, I enjoyed floating in the warm indoor pool while waiting for him to come down as the indoor slide ends right by the pool. I have been coming to The Star Plunge my entire life. So when I think of Thermopolis I think of The Star Plunge. It it the perfect way to spend the day relaxing or a weekend. They are open all day and we always swim in the morning, take a break for lunch then go back in. There is plenty to do with the slides, vapor cave, lobster pot, basket ball, high dive, baby pool and baby slide. The owner is a wonderful man and always takes great care of us. He has recently remodeled and improved the reception area and locker rooms and it looks great. read more

This is my favorite hot spring activity in Thermopolis! Super fun, slides are great, steam room is intense and fun. Go to the outdoor section when it's snowing, you won't regret it. ..so fun. My complaint is just general sanitation. ..bathrooms are creepy, sludgy and run down, and the pool rooms are a little on the dingy side. .. come with a "swimming in the lake mentality"; not expecting it to be a typically clean, indoor swim environment will help you not get creeped out. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! One of the coolest places I've been.....i mean come on swimming in the snow! How freaking cool is that to have a snowball fight in a pool! Summer time here awesome too the waterslides and indoor and out are soooo fun. My kids love this place they have designated kid pools and even a smaller slide outside they enjoy (although I finally forced them on the big one then they didn't want to go small anymore) we have great family memories here. The lifegaurd is by no means creepy but actually really nice. Seeing how my fiance grew up here he gave me the story of everyone and you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I finally realized that we are on vacation. This was our second stop on the road from California to Washington, DC and after two days of driving, it was time to have a little fun. This place is old and funky, like the rest of the town. I wish we'd had more time to spend here. The owner was super cool and we are hoping that they can stay in business. It's truly a shame that historic places like this one have had to close their doors. I never thought my 9 year old daughter would ever experience the terror of jumping off the high board and the rite of passage that accompanies it. Very neat place. Worth checking out. Cost is 12.50 per person and that's an all day pass so you can leave and come back. They have a couple pools, one indoor and one outdoor and there are two big slides and a little slide. The water is warm, but it feels good. There is a slight rotten egg smell, but it's faint. They have lockers, changing rooms and showers, and for a price they'll provide you with towels and swim suits. I definitely had fun.
