We enjoy this hot springs so much. Seniors pay only $150 a year. The pools and showers are very clean. Love the outdoors pools.

The hot springs pools are great! They have a slide inside and outside. The inside pool didn't have a lot of water so it was a little hard to get to the bottom. we got there early so it wasn't very busy. It was nice because we almost had the place to ourselves. read more

Ladies, I lived the dream. A lifeguard actually came over and chatted with me... Could have been because I looked bored, or that I was the only person there he didn't know (small towns are like that), or that he was just killing time and tired of saying "no running!" Whatever, I'll take it. Swimming here is unlike many other aquatic experiences and it's not the commercial hotel swimming pool setup either. The water here is hotter than Michael Phelps right now. That's because it all comes from the ginormous mineral hot spring right outside. This includes the pool, which is like swimming in a hot bath. You can only imagine what the hot tubs are like... (Think screaming lobsters in boiling water.) Of course given the geologic nature of the setup, it also means that mineral deposits are everywhere... edges and walls can rough, watch your head and toes, not to mention slick, hence all the 'SLOW DOWN' shouts from my new friend. But that's not to take away from the fun of indoor and outdoor waterslides, aquatic basketball, or just floating around taking in the sun. And when you leave, you even get to take a bit of that rotten egg - sulfur smell with you on all your clothes and belongings. Magical. read more

Although I am fully aware that I live in the PNW, I can't help but be a little bummed that the weather isn't a bit nicer while I am on spring break. So to help me appreciate our weather, I have been thinking about my numerous heat wave summers visiting my Grandparents in their small town of Thermopolis Wyoming. As if it were scripted, pretty much everyone one of our trips plays out the same way: 1. Upon entering Thermopolis, drive around the town for a bit to soak up the last bit of precious air conditioning. 2. Greet grandparents 3. Go inside and scope out the one oscillating fan that is combating the heat of the entire two story house. 4. Go to unload the car, inevitably looks at the thermometer, and cry a little on the inside. 5. Try to acclimate self to heat by taking a nap on the basement tile floor (it is the coolest place in the entire house - don't judge). 6. Wake up, realize that it is still hot as hell and nothing is going to chance that, mumble a few (appropriate of course) words, and decide its time to head to Teepee. Home to the world's largest mineral hot spring, Thermopolis takes pride in its spas, as the water are said to be healing waters. While there is a bath house designated for the purpose of healing, there are also a couple of pools to liven things up. Teepee Pool happens to be our pool of choice when visiting. With a pool, water slide, hot tub, sauna, and steam room indoors and a pool, water slide, and a couple of hot tubs outdoors, there is enough to keep you busy for a while. Of course, if the aquatics don't keep you busy, you can always count on the people (including the lifeguard if you are so lucky). Lets face it, in a small town if you're not a local everyone will know and you will be pegged as a newbie. Fortunately this makes for some interesting conversations and even a handy tidbit or two for the rest of your stay. I prefer the indoors in the summer as a way to stay cool (that and I am still slightly scarred by a water aerobics lesson I witnessed in the outdoor pool [think old man and neon Speedo *shudder*]). But if you are brave enough for the heat, you can go join the locals outside because even when it's over 100 degrees, you'll find people casually lounging outside in one of the blazing hot, hot tubs. If you don't at least walk away with an interesting story or two, the smell of chlorine and sulfur on yourself and clothes will be there to remind you of your visit. We visited Yellowstone recently and made a detour on our way home to visit Thermopolis after reading about the wonderful hot springs there. We live near Glenwood Springs, CO and wanted to take a look at another town boasting about their geothermal assets. Tepee is the the only hot springs we visited in Thermopolis and we were so pleased. The staff was friendly, polite and didn't treat us as tourists. There are so many pools, both inside and out and each is a different temp so you can get it 'just right'. There are lots of 'kiddie pools' to occupy our young kids and we could soak in the hot pools right to theirs. The slides! They have one inside and one outside. We had a blast on both. You can go as fast or slow as you chose, you control your speed. Our young kids loved them and we also had a great time. I was suprised that the place wasn't packed on a Saturday afternoon, no lines, no waiting. It is a bit "old school" but in a very cool way. It's not overdone, or overregulated. The bathrooms were very clean, the steam room was awesome- water dripping down rock formations with skylights. All in all, very cool hot springs that you should visit while in town. read more

Winter is the best time to visit Teepee Pools. The colder the better. When it's 10 below, what better way to pass the day than to take a nice little road trip to Thermop and soak in the hot springs? The outdoor slide isn't open in the winter but they do keep the hot tubs turned up plenty. The steam room is a nice feature as is the waterslide. There is definitely enough to do to keep from getting bored, and the kids love it! read more
