I am giving them a five star review because they have always gotten my orders correct, treat me very well, and I love doing classwork there on my free days.... But WHO decided to change the interior? It was so homey and had lots of seating with actual room for a computer and notebook + some, and now it is all slate grey with tiny circular tables that barely fit a notebook and computer. For five visits in the month of October to order coffee with cream and sugar. Two times the coffee was putrid and I disposed of it. One time the coffee was good but there was no cream or sugar as my order was entered on the mobile app. 2.5 of 5 success. I've been going to this location for a year and never had bad coffee until recently. I'm not sure if they're more concerned about people who buy drinks that are five dollars or more. Simple coffee should not be a problem for a Starbucks. It's not often you have to dump out a Starbucks coffee and go to a Dunkin' Donuts. read more

Clean inside and out, it's a small location so don't expect to be in and out if you're going through the drive thru. I ordered a Grande peppermint hot chocolate with almond milk and two turkey bacon and egg sandwiches without cheese. One sandwich had no cheese, but the did. At least this location had peppermint, unlike one location out in South Carolina that had run out of peppermint. Overall, it wasn't a bad Starbucks run and I'd go back again. This Starbucks is good, but nothing special which is why I am giving it 3 stars. Sometimes the service is slower than other Starbucks I have been to, even in slower times. This Starbucks has nice tables to work at; however, most of them do not have outlets. Most weekend nights are very busy here so don't go in expecting to have a seat Friday-Sunday. I've been going to this Starbucks for quite sometime now. At least a couple years. Every single time I go in there i leave happy knowing my order is correct and I was treated well. I walk in, they know my name, know my usual order and make my drink quickly. Sometimes it gets super busy there around lunch, understandable. I hardly ever go through the drive through since I like the interaction inside, plus since the remodel last year it's really nice now. To me a Starbucks is a Starbucks. Overall they manage to maintain a certain level of consistency across the board wherever you go. Which is nice. Thank you Starbucks for being that place in the world that offers us a sense of coffee security. I usually get a soy cinnamon dolce latte affagato. Yum. So good. I love that they have a secret menu. If only you have the keys to unlock the power of your local Starbucks. Where Starbucks tends to differ is in the employees and managers that work there. Sometimes you get a new barista and they are learning the ropes and Hey, that's okay. I'll be back in three months and they've got it down. When you have a cranky manager, well , *sigh* that tends to bring down the whole feel of the cafe. And unfortunately they tend to linger much longer than needed. My only complaint with this DeKalb store is their manager Ann. She is afflicted with such a sour disposition. I've written to corporate to complain about her. My heart cries a little when she's the one to take my order. She yells at her employees and is very gruff working the register. Starbucks is usually consistent with fun upbeat positive people. They were super friendly and taught us how to effectively use the app to save money and earn rewards. They truly made our night. I won't down it a star or two on one bad occasion, but when the reason the visit is bad is due to the unfriendly staff member, who just so happens to be the area director Matt Dionisopoulos you know things are bad. This'll be my last time soliciting the Starbucks in Dekalb. After getting a venti decaf, after taking my first sip I literally had the bitter coffee face!! I know I know why decaf you ask? Well I'm pregnant so another three more months and then I'm back to the regular good stuff! So I call and chat with the manager, and it seems like this is consistent such as other reviews I've read that she disregarded anything that I said, was really kind of unapologetic, offered me a free drink, but again really didn't care about my complaint. Then what really grossed me out is she said that yes sometimes the decaf can turn bitter because they don't use it as much. And when they don't use it as much and if they don't clean it it can make bitter coffee! Well then clean your machine Starbucks, it was 6am when I came through!!!! read more

Use to be my favorite coffee shop. Now the background music is blaring and too often not my taste. Im also disappointed with college kids coming in to do homework there. Typically a student will move 2 tables together taking away potential customers looking for a place to sit down when busy. Very annoying. The company also has removed their newspaper stands. I wrote down my order since my drink has to be made in specific way. Matt took my order then made my drink front of me. He plainly ignored the directions I wrote down for him. He proceed to make the drink his way and served me it. When I mentioned that I did not want water mixed in My drink and I wanted small amount of ice in my drink. Now I am stuck with full Trenta cup of ice with half of it full of water while I only have 1/4 to 1/3 worth of actual drink. Matt doesn't think he should make me another drink, the drink I asked for. Let me start by saying I have been to a many Starbucks stores, and I don't just mean in the United States (and btw yes I have been the OG Pikes Place Starbucks), from the U.S. to Europe to Mexico I've been able to experience the coffee experience that Starbucks offers from a wide variety of locations. That being said: I can honestly say that this location has offered the best Starbucks experience I have ever had. It's been a glorious number of years now that this location has been rid of the poisonous management of Ann who ruled her employees and customers with sass and a scowl, now we all enjoy the peaceful, welcoming environment of newest manager, Britney. She does an excellent job of keeping the store clean, organized and well staffed--plus she has an excellent memory for recalling customers names and their drink of choice (including mine, thanks Britney!) But she is just the tip of the iceberg, the other loyal employees add to this enjoyable atmosphere, Bethany being one of them. Not only does she also know my name and drink but she is always glad to see people and happy to recommend new drinks or give other suggestions, plus she is just fun to talk to. #baristaoftheyear But again there are many others here that deserve praise and recognition, they work hard, they work happily and they make some dang good coffee. I love Starbucks and this one is extremely nice (remodeled in 2016), but don't come here expecting a cozy, warm place to hang out in the winter. It's consistently freezing cold in here - as I'm writing this, all five customers within my line of sight are wearing winter coats. I've asked the baristas about the temperature settings and I've consistently gotten "we don't control the temperature" and "it's set to 70 degrees". Yeah, maybe it's 70 behind the counter, but it's 60-65 in the rest of the shop. I'm guessing this happens because the giant panoramic windows let a lot of cold air through, which makes sitting next to them be freezing cold. I really don't care for the Starbucks stores and coffees there; they always taste burnt or I always get the bottom of the pot that has been sitting for hours... BUT, I do love VERONA that I buy at the grocery store or discount store. Today is the day they will close for training to teach how to treat customers. Yes! The store here in Sycamore really needs this! I am a tad older than most Starbucks customers, and they treat me like I should leave or just use drive thru. 4 hours though to teach RESPECT? I love the remodel that this store got. Feels a lot more cozy and comfortable. I've never had a bad drink here! My only major complaint is that the music is wayyyy too loud. Seems like it must be above the typical standard for all stores. It's so loud that it's distracting if you're trying to do work or talk to somebody. The staff has been friendly for the most part, though it often takes a while for someone to help me at the counter. Overall though, the drinks are always good! I have never seen more expensive coffee with less attention to detail. The lattes just lack substance. The milk they use is almost watery and thin and although they have a large selection of flavors they are strictly syrups that just dont provide that thickness you would expect. The ice coffees are OK but if youre not getting the most basic thing on the menu, youre looking to spend 6 or 7 bucks on something thats just.. OK. I go here a lot to study or just do some leisurely reading on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I love it. This One in particular is more spacious, you don't have to worry about not being able to find somewhere to sit. The Starbucks on Lincoln Highway tends to fill up really fast, I went there once and there were no tables left. So this one is larger if you're planning on staying for a while. All is good when Anne, the store manager isn't here. She is snotty to customers and her employees. Anne's passive aggressive tendencies come out whenever she can pretend to not give her customers what they want. Avoid her at all costs. Also be prepared for a lack of air conditioning because apparently sweaty customers don't stick around as long. Worst Starbucks experience I've had to date. Barista did not want to be there and made it obvious. Did not aknowledge me when I came up and continued to play on her phone. Finally looked up, sighed and asked what I wanted. I ordered a regular coffee with heavy cream. Simple. She could not have moved slower. The coffee machine appeared to be not ready. Excellent place for a good sit down, I'm glad Dekalb has two Starbucks locations. I would highly recommend this place, every once in a while I have an order that is a little off (whipped cream when I didn't want any or vise versa) but nothing to get upset over.
