I visit this Starbucks only to purchase Matcha Lattes which I am grateful that they have. They recently had a limited edition "Sakura Matcha Frappucino" which was "strawberry puree, cream, white chocolate sauce, whipped cream and matcha (green tea powder)." It was tasty but was more like a creamy strawberry frapp. There's are a couple of new tea lattes that look promising: Citrus Green Tea Latte and London Fog The one downside to this location is that it is often very crowded. Pros: 1. The atmosphere is excellent in the old brick building on the edge of downtown iowa city. Modern yet homey in my opinion. 2. They have a clover which makes awesome coffee. It is more expensive, but worth it compared to their normal drip coffee. 3. Their flavored and expresso drinks are good not great. The caramel macchiato is probably my favorite. 4. Decent food selection, particular shout out to their breakfast sandwiches. Cons: 1. Can be very busy and difficult to find a spot to sit during the school year, particularly in the morning. 2. Despite Starbucks being known for how standardized they've made their drinks, we all know that sometimes a drink just doesn't hit the spot from one location to the next. This Starbucks though has been pretty spot-on every time. The staff here are friendly (somewhat rare considering how fast Starbucks employees have to be working) and the location is handy, just off the Ped Mall, across the street from the University's Old Capitol Mall, and across the street from the Old Capitol parking ramp. The outdoor patio is very small and sits among a cramped parking lot, but the building itself is cute This location gets a lot of students passing through (if you ever work from here, you'll know when the class changes occur), and there aren't very many seating options there are. But, it has a fun urban-buzz vibe to it and if you can snag a seat, it's a nice place to hunker down with your computer and a holiday latte while watching the snow fly past their big window for a few hours. read more

This Starbucks is always super busy and on the smaller side so you probably won't find a spot to sit. However, the free parking in the lot next to is amazing. They have quite a few 2 person tables along the wall, but not a place to come in a large study group because the communal table is typically full. The employees provide great service and the WiFi is always reliable. They accept the app here and have the full menu of drinks and food. read more

If your wishing to get your morning coffee quickly, reconsider. There is always a wait no matter what time of the day your going because of it being near a college campus. Sunday mornings before 8:30 is the best time to go if your looking for a peaceful coffee shop vibe. If you plan to mobile order, make sure you place it well ahead of your scheduled pick up time. They usually are backed up on orders, so your going to be waiting in the store for it anyway. The store itself is very tiny for the the amount of people they get which makes it not the greatest study spot. Offering only a few small tables, and one communal table, its usually very hard to find a seat. Employees are always friendly, and have never messed up my order. Today, my drink was not there and I figured someone else had likely grabbed it. When I let the barista at the counter know and I showed her my receipt she just said they would make my drink. I proceeded to wait another 10 minutes as I watched them continue to make everyone else's drinks. Then I finally hear the barista I had talked to previously say, "Oh, I forgot about that lady's drink." I hear her repeat my order wrong to the barista on bar, but I was running too late to care at this point. When I walked up and asked "Is this the americano?" The girl on the handoff plane says "Uh, yeah." And looks at me like I'm crazy! You guys need to seriously go over basic customer service policies with your crew. Karen moment over. read more

I am an avid Starbucks drinker and get several chai's a week. My order for the last two years is as follows: Venti iced chai with oatmilk, brown sugar, and light ice. I have never had a problem with this order ever before and always love my drink. I buy from this specific location often as w. Tonight, however, after placing my normal order, I placed an order for my friend. It was going to have to sit in the fridge for awhile so I ordered it "iced" but with no ice. The cashier repeated it back to me and understood what I meant. As I was ordering, however, the girl making the drinks walked over, looked at my order and rolled her eyes before looking at me in disgust. I exchanged looks with my friend who was waiting in line behind me and she noticed it too. We thought it was odd and rude but remained polite and waited for our drinks. When the barista announced a chai for my name, I immediately knew it seemed much darker than usual but checked the sticker which had my correct order on it. After one sip, I knew this drink had a very strong coffee flavor. I even had my friend try it to be sure (like I said I get this drink all the time and know what it should taste like). I went up to the counter and said "I'm sorry but do you know if there was accidentally coffee put it in here? It just tastes like coffee and not chai." The barista said "it doesn't say shots on the sticker so I didn't put any in there," in a very snarky tone. The cashier then stepped in, politely offering to make it and I said "if you're sure you don't mind that would be great!" Mind you, my friend and I were the only customers they were serving at this time so it wasn't holding them up at all. The barista remade it, slammed it on the counter and said my name again. It looked lighter this time so I tried a sip, and it still tasted like it had an espresso shot in it. It tastes like when I've tried brown sugar shaken espressos from Starbucks. I'm not a fan of strong tasting coffee but I was so frustrated with the experience I just left and accepted that I wouldn't be getting the chai i was looking forward to drinking. Upon arriving home I see the sticker below on my friends drink instead of the correct order of "Grande iced chai with peppermint cold foam and no ice." I sure hope the sticker is mistaken but her chai doesn't look normal either (hers being too light which is weird because mine is too dark.) When she gets back I am hoping to surprise her with a delicious chai (hopefully it's made right) so at least one of us gets a good drink out of this frustrating and rude experience. read more

Today at 11:00 am, I went to Starbucks that located in 228 Clinton street, Iowa City, to have a medium coffee with cream and sugar with cheese danish. The Cashier did not ask for my name for the order, that was the first issue. I paid the bill and waited a side for my coffee and cheese danish. The cheese danish came really quick but they took more than seven minutes to get my coffee ready, they served 3 or 4 other customers that came after me, while I am still waiting there, after that, I got the coffee with no cream on it, i told the girl that was close to me that I ordered the coffee with cream and sugar she told the cashier and he started making my coffee over again, here when I got mad I left the cheese danish l, I did not wait for the coffee. I called the store, some one picked up the phone, I asked for a supervisor or a manager, he said I am a supervisor, his name is Justin he apologized for what happened and offered to refund my money back, I refused to take money back, because it wasn't about the money, it was about how we treat each other as a human. The staff on that branch needs to communicate better with customers, they need to be kind and smile and treat the customer with kindness and consideration. read more

So, the thing about this Starbucks is, they have a Clover. For those of you who don't know, it is "Teh Awesome". It's a complicated machine that used to cost $10,000 before Starbucks bought them, and the roll them out grudgingly throughout their massive chain. I am pretty sure that this location, which seats very few, has had it since 2012 since that is when my wife discovered it and previously she had not been a Starbucks fan. As a side note a Starbucks we visited in August in West Des Moines had just gotten one but were so afraid of it I had to park for 5 minutes and get it hand-delivered while trying to use the drive-through. But what the clover does is have a programmed temperature and pressure for each individual coffee bean. That might not sound like much but the end result is fantastic, because by lowering the temperature for certain coffees they preserve some delicate flavors and aromas that would have been lost by straight 212º boiling water. Apart from that, I am ranking this Starbuck high because I have had great interactions with the staff and only one time out of 40 or 50 when I had weird service. They change up the coffees on the Clover, a special Reserve list all the time, and I think that when you know enough to ask about the Clover coffees they take you seriously and like your interest in the art form. read more

Good for grabbing a coffee, bad for studying. Insert pro's and con's of Starbucks. You get quick, professional service and are out the door with a cup of great coffee within 5 minutes. Staff is courteous and really enjoys what they do. They have fun and you feel welcome here. Drawback is the space. There's just not much room. Space is a commodity downtown and with the number of students studying there is not much room. I'd suggest professionals not schedule a meeting here as there will just not be room. Bonus, they have a Clover. Also parking. You can park for free in their lot while you are there. That's actually a pretty big perk downtown, but again there probably won't be room in there. read more

Best and fastest service of any of downtown Iowa City's coffee shops and serves product of consistent quality, which, unfortunately, cannot be said for a couple of the local independent cafés, because Iowa City-ans love to patronize independent businesses. Coming to realize this may sort of be like when Luke Skywalker finally accepts that Darth Vader is his father, or it may not bother you at all, but it doesn't change the fact that it's true. During the academic school year the place can be a hubbub of activity as students come and go, study, and run their yappers. This, compounded with the music the Starbucks corporation forces its stores to play over the speakers makes it a place I would not usually want to sit down and hang out in, but as far as the coffee and drinks go, you can and will do a hell of a lot worse in other places. read more

Sometimes, you just don't have time to wait in line for coffee, and Starbucks is the solution. Ever since this location enabled mobile ordering, it's been pretty difficult for me to pull myself away. Is there really anything better than having your coffee hot and ready for you when you arrive, without having to engage in too much human interaction pre-caffeine? I am a creature of habit, and this location always makes the rotation of the three things I order (Skinny Vanilla Latte, Iced Skinny Vanilla Latte, and a specialty coffee if I'm feeling crazy) to perfection. On a few occasions (usually when town is in full college-swing) they've fallen behind on the online ordering system which ends up slowing customers down significantly, but they seem to be working on the bugs which I so appreciate! Be careful parking here, as it has a very small lot that is almost always overcrowded and you risk getting parked in. There is a garage across the street, but it can be a pain if you just want a quick drink. Not a lot of tables, so if you're trying to study, go elsewhere. read more

Multiple times I have gone to this Starbucks and have had to leave without my drink. They do not seem to handle busy hours well and it sometimes takes them over 30 minutes to finish making my drink. I cannot always wait that long, so I have left without my drink many times to avoid being late to class or work. Starbucks is my go to coffee place, but this one just can't seem to get it together. No one should wait 30 minutes for a latte and they especially shouldn't have to leave without what they paid for. It is extremely frustrating and I find myself going 15 minutes out of my way to the Starbucks in Coralville just to avoid possibly losing money, time, and my good mood. read more

They do have quick friendly service and I am giving them 5/5 starts as I asked for a Venti coffee and cold soy topper. The barista informed me that there was soy milk at the condiment bar. When I walked over to get the soy milk there was none. I asked them politely for soy milk and he was nice enough to hand me soy right then. Even though he had a line of drinks at the bar.
