While I was visiting family in the area I stopped by Dunn Bros for my morning coffee. My first visit was a little frustrating as they couldn't understand my order. The coffee was awesome and I returned the next day. Thos time I got breakfast. The bacon grilled cheese was slightly disappointing. Only two small strips of bacon on this lovely sandwich. I didn't even taste the bacon and had to disassemble the sandwich to confirm that they even put bacon. I'll be back for coffee but not sure if I'll be ordering anything to eat. I visited Dunn Brothers today because I was searching for a change of scenery while working this morning. Here were my thoughts: Food/Drink: Ham & Swiss Croissant (Oooo weee! This breakfast sandwich was delicious! Full of flavor and the croissant was perfectly buttery and flaky. Rating = 9.2/10). Iced Vanilla Latte (Solid. Solid. Solid. Enjoyed that this latte wasn't overly sweet to the point where it drowns out the espresso flavor. It wasn't the best I've had, but it definitely got the job done this morning. Rating = 7.9/10). Service: The employees I interacted with and observed while I spent the morning working in the shop seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Everyone was polite and were chatting with the regulars as they came in and out. Ambiance: The physical space had all sorts of room for people like myself who were there looking for a place to be productive. From bar seating, high tops, tables, couches, and comfy chairs - this place can accommodate all sorts of patrons. As a bonus, I had the pleasure of sitting right next to the roaster while they were actively roasting beans for most of the morning! I think if you're going to work the drive thru stoned, you have to be a certified astronaut and not merely a space cadet. I can only laugh at being handed an ice filled drink when I ordered a hot one, even calling it a hot latte, and the look of utter confusion when I asked if the worker was sure it was hot. If you've got time for some amusement, I recommend the drive thru. Otherwise, any of the other numerous places in town will get the job done quicker. read more

We stopped in for a togo breakfast the other day. The restaurant was clean and bright, with lots of seating. The staff were nice and got our order together quickly and we're happy to get my sons pastry first while my husbands and my food were being prepared. The coffee was very good but the food definitely left something to be desired. I had the bacon breakfast burrito and it was pretty lame. My husband had the sausage and egg biscuit sandwich and didn't love it either. At least they had real eggs that they cooked for us. The associate at the register was patient as we selected meals and knowledgeable when responding to some of our specific questions. The location carries TeaSource loose leaf teas which are some of my favorite. I just about leaped for joy when I saw this Minnesota-brand tea for sale! I highly recommend trying the Karigane green tea which completely opened my eyes to how terrible most bags of green tea taste. It's made with stems and twigs from the Japanese tea plant instead of the leaves. The green tea flavor is light, bright, and earthy. Sorry for the tangent, let's get back to talking about Dunn Bros. My husband devoured his steak, egg, and cheese burrito in minutes. I relished the Belgian waffle break sandwich. We enjoyed a chai and a vanilla latte as well. The price is a bit steep for a coffee shop. We spent $35 for our food and drinks. The food was not particularly robust and it was served on paper plates (I can't tell why this surprised me so much but I expected something different); therefore, the price point felt a bit extravagant. There is plenty of seating in a variety of types. One could enjoy sitting by the fireplace, at a bar, low tables, and high tables. Board games are available for people to socialize. For the coffee snobs, you can even see them roast the beans in the shop! In conclusion, this was a positive experience. We'll 100% be back to buy TeaSource tea. Otherwise, I imagine we'd select a cheaper coffee shop for a quick breakfast date. read more

I always have been a sucker for a good drive thru. Pre-pandemic.... pandemic... and once this craziness goes back to normal. I'll always gravitate toward a quick to-go option probably because I almost always have littles in tow. Kiddos and coffee shops don't really mix IMO. Dunn Brothers Coffee doesn't disappoint. They've got all the must-haves on their menu at a reasonable price. Plus, even though they were slammed on a Tuesday at 9am-- they got me in and out. I had the Vanilla Iced Nirvana. Which is their Infinite Black Cold Press Coffee paired with vanilla syrup and finished with half and half. It was delightful. My kiddos split a smoothie and they *claim* it is the best in town. I will say though, since Johnson County is currently with a high infection rate... I wasn't incredibly impressed with the amount of contact I had with the cashier? I also have a sneaking suspicion the owner(s) have a thing for red-heads, or it's part of the store's branding, because they always have them on hand. At LEAST one. This was really my first visit back to Dunn Brothers Coffee in Coralville since Covid and I was rather disappointed. The location, ambiance, and service all seemed the same, but I thought the food and drink were not as good as they had been. The turkey on my sandwich seemed very processed versus I seem to remember if being more deli like in the past. My coffee just seemed smaller, more bitter, and less tasty. Now that we have had a chance to enjoy brunch here, I can tell you that the food is just as good as it looks. I had the Belgian waffle breakfast sandwich and it was incredible. The waffles were just crispy enough with a wonderful maple syrup flavor. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the egg was also tasty. My girlfriend had the gluten-free English muffin breakfast sandwich which she said was one of the best gluten-free options she has had anywhere. I know that it is not mandatory but is it not the smartthing and the right thing to do to keep the community and vulnerable people safe and cared for? This is a great little coffee shop in the North Liberty/Coralville area. It has lots of seating, great coffee and other drinks, and light fare if you are hungry. I'm always looking for writing spots, and I really like that I can spread my stuff out here, enjoy my coffee and get some work done without feeling crowded or rushed. Yay to have yet another fast casual restaurant hit the North Liberty/Coralville area. I'm always searching for a spot to grab a quick breakfast or sandwich on busy days, and I'm happy to have Dunn Brothers in the area to expand my choices. I've had the latte here a couple of times, and while it's not my top choice in the area (the milk to espresso ratio is somehow off), it's great to have a drive-thru, and it ultimately meets the end goal of getting caffeinated. I'm really looking forward to coming back to try the made to order food, which I have not yet tried, but I can attest that that bright green pistachio muffin is worth the cals. A friend wanted to get lunch here. I'm usually hesitant about eating lunch at coffee shops because their lunch choices are usually limited, pre-made, or just quickly heated up in a toaster oven. I was very pleasantly surprised when I arrived for lunch to have multiple fresh choices. I got the almond chicken salad sandwich. It was spot on. Best chicken salad I've had. There was really good chunks of chicken and the almonds have it a good texture. The bread was so good too! Overall good experience and the staff was very accommodating with any requests. Side note is wasn't super cold in Dunn Brothers either! I don't enjoy restaurants that keep their AC at attic temperatures in Iowa summers, because I don't want to sit inside and freeze nor do I want to sit outside and sweat. read more

This is my first visit to Dunn Brothers. I was on my way to an appointment and in a little bit of a hurry. Normally I would order a latte and then add just the right amount of raw sugar or honey, but I didn't have time for that so I asked for a mocha and took my chances. Sometimes mochas are made with too many pumps of chocolate syrup, or in convenience stores they are premade and distributed from a rubber hose protruding from a plastic bag. In this case, the mocha was really excellent. It had just the right amount of sweetness -- which is basically the amount of sweetness you think you need minus a little bit. It's really hard to get that balance correct. I've had coffee before that tastes like it's stale drip coffee that's been warming on the percolator all day. However, the coffee in the mocha today had great flavor and tasted like it was fresh ground and made fresh from an espresso machine. Some drive-through restaurants serve unhealthy food that's been taken from a refrigerator or freezer and then overheated in a microwave. However, the avocado toast was amazing. Fresh, delicious, and nutritious. I am recharged for my meeting and the rest of the afternoon. Many thanks! read more
