During one visit, I heard staff discussing whether I was gay within earshot, followed by additional comments after an employee came near me. I also heard staff casually use the R-word while working. Starbucks corporate acknowledged that report, stated that the behavior was unacceptable, and said the employees on duty had been identified and the matter documented. On a later visit, after a brief card issue that was immediately resolved, I heard an employee mock me behind the counter, saying something along the lines of, "He doesn't have money for coffee?" and "You should've seen his face." That is not acceptable customer-service behavior. This location appears to have a workplace-culture problem. Customers should be able to order coffee or work quietly without being gossiped about, mocked, or made uncomfortable by employees. Hopefully corporate addresses it.
