My son and I went on a 3/4 day trip this past Sunday, 7/13. It was his first deep-sea fishing trip, and I haven't been in something like 40 years (not on the Stardust of course). I went on several trips with my dad in my teen years. My son said it was very different from what he imagined and we both caught tons of fish and now have a freezer full. We rented our gear and only needed to purchase minimal tackle. The crew was incredible! They were very attentive, friendly and professional. The life of a deckhand is not an easy one and everyone was catching fish left and right. They were constantly running around helping everyone while maintaining a friendly demeanor. They worked for several long hard hours from start to finish. I'm fairly certain they didn't get much of a break and they worked for several hours on the way back in cleaning and filleting fish, all the while with a pleasant attitude. It's worth noting that the guys working in the tackle shop were super friendly and helpful as well and at no time did anyone put out an elitist vibe. I don't want to leave out the Captain. He clearly was an experienced pilot and knew where the good spots were. Yes, they have a fish finder but there is more to it than just that. The food was delicious. The boat burgers were what boat burgers should be and what I remember. Ice cold Modelos that didn't run out. I think the cost of the trip is irrelevant. Honestly, it was a perfect and a great way to spend the day with my 16 year old son. You can't put a price on that. They advertise a family friendly experience and it's true. We would go again in a heartbeat and will. I'd really like to go with him on a multi-dayer. In case you can't tell, I highly recommend these guys! Seriously money well spent. read more

This is the one you want: super professional staff that combines drill sergeant discipline with a sense of humor, incredible comfort food from the tiny galley, the bought caught its limit. I turned 60 and have never been ocean fishing. So a few friends and I went a couple of weeks ago on a half day trip. We showed up and they have truly got everything you need. They are so knowledgeable. The people in the store as well as the boat. First, I never actually rest or relax. I work work work. So with the ocean and the boat and the rocking of the waves. I was like a baby getting rocked to sleep. I almost lost my pole twice to the ocean falling asleep. Yes. Standing up. So the second time, I just sat down on the bench and nodded out. My friends and I had a wonderful time. After my "nap" I started reeling some on right away. The crew is amazing. Setting up your poles. Explaining everything. They'll filet your fish for you. They have a "whoever gets the biggest fish" wins the pot contest. I'm planning on going again soon.. but I want to be sure to have had more rest so I can be fishing the whole time. We came home with a lot of fish. It was really good. Excellent time. Thanks to the crew. And the weather was perfect that day. Couldn't have been better. read more

Our group of 24 primarily older fisherman chartered the boat for Monday, December 30, 2024. I personally had no knowledge of the boat, I did know most of the man fishing with us. The fishing was not fantastic, but the captain was exceptional in his trying to find fish. He could've sat on a dead spot and that time go by, but he just wouldn't do it. Martin, Tyler and Joe, who were the deck hands, were the absolute best I've ever had on a sport fishing boat. From a warm greeting, helping us getting our equipment on the boat and then Helping us set up with the right tackle, and a smile on their face. They call it fishing, not catching because we can never be sure what's going to happen but if you wanna be treated right at a real effort being made to catch fish, The Coral Sea is the boat I would recommend. read more

Had an absolutely incredible day fishing on the Stardust with our family of 5, on my son's birthday. Check in was fast and efficient at the Sea Landing, with them providing all the necessary gear, rods, tackle, licensing, etc. as needed. Location varies depending on the conditions. This trip was about 2.5hrs out to the islands. The boat is large, clean and comfortable, and had a full range of novice and experienced fishers, young and old. The crew expertly rigged all our lines in minutes, so we were ready to go as we were departing. Breakfast burritos (and coffee) on the way out were some of the best we've ever had! Rumor has it the burgers are also exceptional. The entire boat caught its per person limit, x30 people, in under 3hrs. In one spot we were pulling up two fish per drop as fast as we could bait and throw in; large rock fish, long cod and grouper. On the return trip, crew fillets all the fish per request and bags it neatly on ice for pickup at dock. Our family take was 38lbs of fillets. Crew throughout was amazing, quickly taking care of tangles, fish bagging, re-rigging, food/drink request, etc., and everyone was super friendly, patient and courteous. Food and fillet tabs are settled with cash only. Couldn't ask for a more enjoyable experience! read more

These guys will fillet up your catch for a small fee, don't forget to tip! Luke cooks a great burger too. This boat is located in the backyard of some of the best Halibut and White Seabass waters in the state, if this boat would actually fish for them the Stardust could really be something!!! read more

Went fishing on the coral sea, never been and I don't regret it. You come get a ticket pay for parking it's 15 , check in before they don't take card on the boat. There's a galley , nice deck hand members , bunks, good food, bathroom , big boat .fits about 25 but it is large enough. I wanted to go to Santa Rosa but they said it was the weather we went up north caught a big ling, sheep head, other rock fish. That deck hand in the pic is a nice guy helped me when I got stuck on the bottom and he seemed irritated but still helped me. It is a long drive on the boat make sure you sleep or just know it's a long ride. There's a dog on onboard that was cool. I want to go again already. read more

I can't believe I haven't left a review for the Stardust yet! My dad and I go deep sea fishing occasionally on the Stardust and our last trip was on Labor Day. The boat was full and we did a 3/4 day (leave at 7AM and return at 5 PM). It took us 2.5 hours to get to Santa Rosa Island and 2.5 hours to get back, leaving 5 hours to fish in various areas. Everyone caught their limit totaling over 400 fish including Snapper and Ling Cod mostly. I have also seen on their Instagram that people catch Halibut and Sheepshead as well. They have some food and drinks for sale on the boat like breakfast burritos, burgers, water and soda, but you are also welcome to bring your own. I strongly recommend taking Dramamine the night before and morning of, bringing a rag for your hands, hat, jacket, shoes that grip like tennis shoes or rain boots, chapstick and a lot of water. The deckhands are amazing at what they do, very friendly and work quickly. I am looking forward to our next trip. read more

The Coral Sea is always the Top Producing boat. The Skipper can find the fish and the Crew members are top notch. They are ready to help with a tangle, tie a new dropper loop for their customers or quickly gaff a big Fish for you. Martine is the most personable of the crew and seems to be the "Seasoned Veteran". I fished the Coral Sea last week and snagged the bottom, Martine quickly saw me struggling to get "unstuck", he took my fishing pole and handed me his, which was already cast and said " Fish this Plastic bait", while he worked on freeing my snag. I did as Martine suggested and caught a 5 Lb Calico , one of my biggest Calicos. He freed my line and I was back fishing for SeaBass. If you want to catch fish and have a Team of experienced Crew members working for you, Then go fishing on the Coral Sea. read more

This is one of my favorite fishing boats in the area. Very convenient to have a fishing charter that leaves out of the SB harbor, as most of them leave out of ventura/Oxnard. They do mainly 3/4 day charters, and some 1/2 day charters. Both are always very fun, in my 3 trips with them I have always caught my limits of either rockfish or bass, and sometimes catch some other random fish as well. The 1/2 day is nice because you come back at a reasonable time. The 3/4 day trip does insure you bigger fish, but is definitely a long tiring day as its 2.5 hours there and 2.5 hours back. The staff is what truly sets this boat apart from others. Starting with the boat captains, they are very knowledgeable, and always know the best spots to fish, and what kind of fish are going find there. Some spots can be a miss, but by the end of the trip, it definitely made up for that, but hitting some fantastic spots afterwards. The deck hands are awesome, such as sal, Larry and luke, who always spring into action to help you pull up a big fish, or reset up one of your lines in just a few seconds with skill and ease. They will even clean your fish quickly and efficiently for only $1.50 a fish. They make great burgers onboard and also offer beers, a nice way to celebrate after a long day of fishing. I've seen that they have had some rare catches of bluefin tuna lately, which is extremely rare for this part of California, so I can't wait to book my next charter as soon as possible! read more

If your looking to have a top notch deep sea fishing experience. I highly recommend the Stardust out of Santa Barbara. When you first get on the boat, you are greeted by captain and crew. The smell of the bacon cooking in the galley catches your attention right away. When you go to check in with the crew they will ask you if you will need help setting up your fishing pole. Along with if you want your fish processed by the crew after the trip and wether or not you want to be entered in the jack pot! The jackpot is a $10 entry per person. At the end of the day they will see which fish weighs the most. Heaviest fish takes the jackpot. They have a breakfast and lunch menu in the galley. Anywhere from bacon and eggs, breakfast burritos/sandwiches to cheeseburgers! There's nothing better than a good meal at sea. Lots of cold beer, water, soda and hot coffee. In the galley there are tables with seats you can sit down and take a load off before going to work catching fish. There's also a head(bathroom) on board to put your mind at ease. The captain and crew of the Stardust are top notch! They are very helpful and friendly. If you have any questions they are happy to answer them. I haven't been on one trip with these guys where I haven't gotten my limits(full bags). At the end of the day the crew will fillet all of your fish for $1 each. Went on the coral sea recently. Got to the spot to drift for halibut and the 4 deckhands decided to have lines in the water as well. One deckhand hooks a fish and decided to tell the whole boat to pull up their lines so he can land the fish. Are we paying for the crew to go fishing at this point? I think the crew caught half of the 8 or so halibut caught that day . Then after that we rushed to catch some rockfish last minute. One of the deckhands was especially rude. My drag on my reel was a little light, in my opinion was correctly set as I had a fast reel and somewhat light rod. Instead of just suggesting to tighten my drag or simply talk to me like a person he says " give me your rod , hand it over" no hellos or anything. then he continued to tighten my drag to the max setting and wasn't gentle with my expensive gear. read more

Yesterday my buddy and I went out on the Coral Sea for a full day of fishing. We have been on the other boat at this landing also. I want to say the captain was very helpful on letting us know what and where we were going to fish. He also did not spend a lot of time wasted on spots that were not producing fish. He also communicated to us on the weather and on how deep the water was. The boat was clean and well maintained! I need to give a High 5 to deckhand Joe who made my trip trouble free. Joe was right next to you whenever you brought up a fish so he could put it in your bag! He also used his experience to untangle a few lines this day. Super crew all around! Stardust sportfishing has a lot to learn. They have 2 options. A full day, which they say is 7 to 5, but as they rarely make it in on time you have to plan on 12 hours. For those too busy for 12 hours, they offer a half day boat (they say 9-3 but again rarely make it in on time). Unfortunately, the half day boat only goes out once a week, on Wednesday (great for working people or kids in school), and that's only during the season, and only when the boat is not otherwise chartered, which is often. When they do actually go out for a half day, they often do not put you on fish. I've had days where the boat has averaged less than 2 keepers per person - not really what you're looking for for $100 plus dollars and 7-8 hours of your time. The half day boat also targets only small catch (rockfish, bass, white fish, most of which you can catch at Goleta pier for free). Even on good days they don't hit limits. And if you're lucky enough to win the jackpot, make sure you take the money. They'll try and talk you into a voucher for a free trip, but the voucher has an expiration date and they don't honor it if you are even a couple of weeks past. So much for being cool and trying to get the boat hands some extra tips. Again, take the money. On top of that, the front desk people are extremely rude, and won't even answer simple question like "what's the wave forecast tomorrow?" (Important if you want to bring kids who sometimes get seasick). They're answer: Look it up, but they won't tell you where to look it up or where the boat will be going. All in all, your money and time are much better spent taking a boat out of Ventura, fishing off a pier, or splitting a private charter with some friends. It's too bad their the only game in town, as every other party boat I've taken from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale has been run better. read more

For July 2, 2022 trip. Drove 2 hours to get to landing for coral sea, they said due to weather the boat can only go one mile from harbor to fish for calico and sand bass. if this is the case let people who made reservations know the night before that trip is cancelled or tell people trip is going to be in the bay and you have option of going. A ticket cost $130 dollars and not worth it for one mile outside harbor. Most people on coral sea left and rebooked due to this. But there was no compensation for travel time or inconvenience. I totally understand bad weather not being able to go out. Just let everybody know the day before so we don't need to wake up early and drive two hours there. I see stardust docked next door loading up. I thought maybe they going for calicos. No! Stardust went fishing for rockfish up the coast and posted to Facebook. So I felt lied too. I went on trips where both stardust and coral sea are side by side on the coast. There is no reason why coral sea couldn't do what the stardust did. The dude at office was no help. Said we can't give refunds and only can rebook. Also, nothing like half priced trip or anything for compensation for 4 hours round trip for fishing. I just went on 3 trips the past 2 weeks with the Stardust and Coral sea. I drove the 4 hr round trip from LA 3 times and it is worth it. The scenery in SB is incredible and the fishing here is the closest it comes to just straight up catching fish almost guaranteed. Even on "bad" days of fishing here, I always bring home a bag of fish and honestly, I know this consistency really spoils me when it comes to fishing. I've been on this boat maybe 8-9 times now but for some reason still haven't caught a legal lingcod....all the more reason I'll be back! read more

One of the things I liked the most was the whole crew was sooooooo helpful if you got tangled or had any kind of problem they were so fast to help, it seemed like there almost just serving you but there helping everyone. BOAT: Coral Sea Date: 03/13/21 3/4 day Trip - 7 am 4/5pm 8 of my friends and I wanted to try a new spot and decided to fish out of Santa Barbara on the Coral Sea. The morning started very well, but to my surprise, around 11 am, the Captain stated we reached our limit of rockfish and that we were heading back to port... Around this time I had only caught 3 quality fish the rest were too small to keep(on other boats the crew or myself would toss them back in the ocean). I noticed the crew on this boat were keeping the smaller fish caught in buckets, which explains why they would not let me bag my own fish. We were told to leave our fish on the floor and they would come back later to bag it. When I went to inspect my bag I noticed it was filled with fish I would have never kept. For those of you reading this, if you've never been out with this captain and crew on this boat, your really missing out on the best fishing times the industry has to offer. During my lifetime, I've been fortunate enough to do a little sportfishing while on vacations here and there, but unfortunately was left disappointed by the experiences. The reasons for my disappointment are usually the same: you don't catch many fish (if any); the captain and crew don't really seem to care one way or the other; the whole experience ultimately winds up feeling very overpriced for what it was and, worse than that, like a wasted day on an otherwise-great vacation. I don't feel that way anymore. This past Monday, a couple of friends and I went out on the "Coral Sea" for a day-long sportfishing expedition. My friends had been out on the "Coral Sea" many times and spoke highly of the crew and overall experience, but this was only my first time and I tried to keep my expectations low. We arrived at the harbor at 7 a.m. and check in was smooth. I had purchased my fishing license online and asked one of the employees to double-check it to make sure everything was in order. I'm so glad that I did because I had accidentally neglected to purchase an open water enhancement stamp. Fortunately, for about $6 or so, they were able to remedy the problem onsite in no time at all. We received our numbers (everyone is assigned a number that corresponds with the gunny sack their fish will be kept in), boarded the boat, and stowed our gear. There were four crew members, including the Captain, assisting us. Before departure, the Captain told us that we were going to be going after white sea bass and what the best technique is to catch them. The ride out to the fishing ground was three hours and cell phone reception was spotty. A number of people, who'd claimed berths below deck as soon as they boarded, went to sleep. I wish I'd done that because I was pretty tired after waking up at 4 a.m. (Next time, I'll know better.) I split my time between the galley and the deck where I tried to take photographs without falling on my ass or dropping my phone overboard. My friends had told me that there would be food made to order on board and that it was pretty good, but I was concerned that it would be poor quality and overpriced like at an airport. So, I brought a couple of gas-station sandwiches and sodas with me in my backpack just in case. I ended up ordering a breakfast burrito. It was surprisingly good, better than most restaurants in fact, and fairly priced. When we eventually arrived at the fishing ground, the crew demonstrated how to bait our hooks with squid. (Due to a supply shortage, we weren't able to use live squid.) We put our lines in the water at a depth of about 60 feet. For the first couple of hours or so, we didn't catch much of anything. To be honest, it was a bit frustrating, especially because a nearby boat from San Pedro was pulling giant white sea bass out of the water faster than we could count them. Just as we were on the verge of mutiny (kidding), the Captain made a deal with another boat and got some live squid for us. This was a GAMECHANGER. Suddenly, people started catching white sea bass left and right. Over the next several hours, nearly everyone on board caught their limit in white sea bass. We also pulled in halibut, rockfish, whitefish, etc. I can't say enough about how great the crew was. They worked their asses off. They also made every effort possible to ensure that they got your fish into that boat. More often than not, when you landed a big fish, a crewmember would have to take the rod out of your hands and follow the fish around the boat, which is harder than it sounds because they have to keep the fish on the line while ducking under and going over other fishermen, in order to prevent everyone's lines from getting tangled. It's really an art - or, at least, a dance - unto itself and the stakes are high. It's something to behold. Then, when the fish is finally ready to be brought in, the crewmember would hand the rod back to you, so that you could bring the fish in while they stood by ready to gaff the fucker. Pretty exciting stuff. Before heading back to the harbor, the crew asked everyone if they wanted their fish gutted and/or filleted. I opted for both. During the 3-hour trip back to the harbor, the crew worked vigorously to clean everyone's fish. This, too, was something to behold and we all took many photographs. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my friends and I brought home probably 100 pounds of white sea bass altogether. Whatever the cost of having them cleaned was, it was totally worth it. My only complaint pertains not to the crew but to some of the other passengers. Since there are no assigned spots on the boat, some people move around a lot and, sometimes, get too close to others, which leads to lines getting tangled. There's nothing worse than spending 30 minutes trying to untangle your line while other people are catching fish by the dozens. This happened to me three times. That said, the whole experience was one for the books. read more

Hands down one of the best ways to see the Santa Barbara Channel and enjoy a day of fishing. You don't need to be an expert - the crew will teach you everything you need to know. I've been with them for years. One change is that the boat goes out for 3 hours - it's a long ride and not enough seats. It would be nice to fish for longer. Six hours of riding was not enjoyable. If I pay for 3/4 day I expect to spend more than 2 hours fishing. read more

Can't say enough (good stuff) about this group of people. Let's be real, it is a party boat (unless you spring for a private charter) so you will be fishing will all kinds of people with all kinds of experience of lack of - BUT - the crew is not only highly experienced but incredibly focused on your day and experience and so patient with those that either forget or refuse to follow the well spoken requests/rules that are there for our enjoyment and safety. I was so lucky to be able to go out on two trips, the 1/2 day and the 3/4 day on the Stardust. I did not feel like a passenger but more like a guest but that also starts with the way I hope I treated my hosts. The bottom line is we all caught fish - lots of them and had such an amazing time. The entry price to the boat is very reasonable, if you don't have poles and tackle it is available for a nominal rental fee or purchase right at Sea Landing. I read an earlier yelper and was weary of being "nickel and dimed" so at first I was weary - but this is simply NOT the case after spending a couple of days fishing. First of all, if you have all you need - just show up and you only pay your way on the boat. The crew will help you in every way they can regardless and make you feel VIP and welcome while allowing you to do your own thing. If you are any point in between or have no experience and no gear - well, for a nominal fee they will fill in the gap with any or all but your bait, and help/guidance are always included. This includes, poles, tackle, food and drink and even cleaning/filleting your catch.and bagging it to go and it was all worth every "nickel and dime" - and more.. I only paid for what I needed - and they had it!! That is in my opinion the perfect scenario because I am only buying what I want or need and not overpaying a package rate for things I don't want or need are bundled in - wow! What that also means is not I can come back for multiple trips every chance I can - and I will! We all know when we find a restaurant that is filled with locals or if it is ethnic food that it seems predominantly filled with that culture - well, it must be real and good. Well, on both of my trips there were locals that fish the boats regularly and that says a lot. Cory, Dane, Larry, John and Christian - some of the most patient and helpful people I have ever been fishing with anywhere. They work non-stop, communicate calmly (multiple times for some that don't listen while remaining "cool" ) and are always looking over their shoulder to help people stay safe and catch fish. They worked like dogs all day to stay ahead of what we needed, and I can promise you they really cared so please make sure that if you are fortunate to spend the day with them that you give back. They are gracious and deserve it. My only regret is they are 5-6 hours away for me to come more often.
