Love this place! They spend enoughf time on my kids' heads, but keep them entertained by patiently talking to them or listening to them read books. Great old guys giving out cheap, nice haircuts for kids. We never went to the place with the previous ownership, but now this is our go-to kids' salon. read more

We love Francisco. I take my two toddler boys there for haircuts, and my husband goes to Starline as well. The prices are reasonable, and he has board books and lollipops for kids. The haircuts are great, and he is calm and patient with the kids. I like that he remembers us when we come in, and I like the sense of neighborhood in the shop. We have always had great experiences there, and Francisco is always very kind to my kids, and gives them a choice of cartoon to watch, changing the channel on the TV for them. read more

We found the owner, Francisco, and his friend, rude on more than one occasion. They are both moody and self-centered. It is not a great place for a kids haircut. And it is too bad for a neighborhood barber to not be kind to its customers and offer good haircuts. Go to Epic Salon nearby where one of the barbers from Starline moved to to open her own place. read more

I am a cheap bastard, and so I used Yelp to find a place that gives good hair cuts without asking for my first born. Yelp did a great job of giving me guidance to finding Starline. The craftsmanship on my hair cut was better then anything else I have had in Seattle over the last 3.5 years since I moved here and this will be the first place that I will re-visit. They were not mindless robots, blindly snipping and snatching tufts of my hair; they politely argued with me on my cutting choices, and in the end the compromise that we obtained was nothing short of amazing. Usually I have to wait a month until my hair recovers from what looks like an attack from Edward Scissor Hands on meth, with a little crack mixed in for good measure. This is the first hair cut I have had that I actually like, and don't need to "grow" into. read more

Few things do I recommend this highly, but Francisco at Starline really is terrific. We've taken our young son there 3 times now and it's been a great experience each time. There are no cutesy kid barber chairs, but they have crayons and children's books in the waiting area and a TV to watch a children's show if you have to wait a few minutes. He has good skills for cutting hair and helping kids relax, and he will even offer a lollipop afterward, if it's OK with the parent of course. Can't beat it for the price unless you trust yourself cutting hair! read more

Many years ago I took my little boys for haircuts on the Ave and they got the best haircuts. When I went back, Francisco was gone. For years I remembered what a great job he did. There must be something wrong with me b/c I refuse to pay the $25 the kids salons charge for a haircut for my toddler, especially since his hair grows so fast and he needs cuts regularly. Thanks to the yelp reviews, I found this place and have taken my son a few times. Francisco will work as quickly as he can but also takes the time to cut my son's hair really well, making sure it's even (as long as my son lets him). He's very nice to my son and they are very kid friendly even though it's not a kids salon. The place is small but very clean and nicely decorated. For $15, I feel like I get great service here. read more

I've been going here about 2 years, fairly regularly. Only 3 or 4 total staff, so you may have to wait a bit, or come at off-peak hours. And yes, they do cost a little more than the chains. However, they are far, far better than the service you would get at any chain. I've had my hair cut by each of them. They are all very experienced and professional, take their time to get it right, and are all very nice. read more

We took our 3yr old to this Shop after reading the reviews and we loved it!!! It is usually a huge battle to get him to sit and not cry for haircuts, at home or in a kids salon. Our son sat and watched 3 men get their trims and fades and enjoyed watching bugs bunny. Then it was our turn and with quick and gentle trimmers Francisco worked his Magic. I experienced racism for the first time in my life on Friday and it was unbelievably hurtful (and still is). I have dark skin. I took my seven year old son to Starline Barber Shop (3420 NE 55th St) to get his hair cut. It is first come, first serve and they cater to kids as well as adults (they have lollipops and kids books). The last time we were there, the barber was watching a talk show. We were the only customers in the shop and I asked if he could change the channel to cartoons (which another barber did when we were first in there). He said no and said he was watching it. I thought it was odd since we were paying customers and since he was actually not watching the TV while cutting my son's hair. On Friday 7/20/12, the same barber and a man whose hair he was cutting were talking about the tragic movie theatre shooting in Colorado. I was talking to my children loudly (my 6 year old daughter was with us) so they couldn't hear the Colorado discussion. The barber then switched the TV from tennis to CNN where they were reporting about the Colorado shooting. I politely asked the barber if he could change the channel because I didn't want my children to hear the awful news. When he didn't respond, I asked him again. The man whose hair he was cutting gave me a look like he didn't understand why the barber wasn't responding. Thinking the barber couldn't hear me (I now think the barber was intentionally ignorning me), I stood up and attempted to change the channel. I did not think it was a big deal as he was cutting hair and not looking at the TV. The barber angrily asked what I was doing and I said I was changing the channel so my kids wouldn't hear the news and that I had already asked him to change the channel a few times and that he did the same thing the last time he cut my son's hair. He said he was working and that he was watching the news and I said I have never been in a business that doesn't cater to customers and if they are doing to cut children's hair, they can't watch news like that. As I was walking out the door he said "go back to the ghetto you came from." I was horrified at the comment and the fact that no one in there said one word. There were three barbers and five costumers in this small shop, all of whom heard what had just happened (either he or the other male barber who was there own the shop). At a loss for words, I said that I couldn't believe that no one in there said one word to support me. The sad thing is that the rude barber and the other male barber who was there are not Caucasian either. If this barber chooses to watch whatever he wants (inappropriate news for children, R rated movies, etc.) while he is supposed to be focusing on cutting client's hair, the shop should not offer children's hair cuts! read more
