First of all, I will say this: as I read through some of these negative reviews, all I can say is "wow, some people are really sensitive about their hair" LOL. I started coming to PBS after Sunset Hill Barber closed down suddenly a few years ago. I tried a few other places along the way, but I am really glad that I noticed this after a shopping trip to QFC, just across the parking lot Kamal is a barber in the classic sense- he cuts your damn hair. He might be interested in how much you want it cut, but I trust him to know how to cut my hair. If I was going to tell him what to do, well shoot, I would just as well do it myself! I must say that Kamal is a wonderful person. Quite the conversationalist and an all around good barber. There are a few different options in the area, mostly stylists for women's hair though. Kamal's place is one of those old school kinds where you go to get a cut and have a chat. He's an interesting guy and is just really cool. He can cut about anything. My curly hair tends to get long and out of control, but somehow he manages to help contain it. I'm glad there is a place local that I can go to that doesn't cost an arm or a leg. The shop is located in the shopping area just west of QFC. There is parking for all the businesses so that isn't an issue. The building itself isn't anything spectacular and the interior is quite plain. Pictures of him hunting big game, family, and things of that sort. His hours could be an issue for some and every year he does a long vacation to go visit family back home so fair warning. read more

I am disappointed. Despite Kamal's assertions - he was simply not able to handle my hair. I acknowledge that my thin old man hair is difficult - however the cuts were routinely mediocre and it was evident that he simply could not or perhaps would not handle my hair. Sadly, I believe Kamal can do a decent job on my hair - and has, at times come close - however, he persists in certain approaches that are contrary to what I want - and what works. He stated that that thinning my hair would result in standing up rather than laying down as I wanted. When he finally did thin at my plea - my hair laid down exactly as I said - contrary to what he said. There are other issues - but this gives you my own experience. Oh - and if he gets busy - you will likely get less of a quality cut. Please note - Kamal is a decent guy - and maybe he will be a great barber for you - I acknowledge that my hair is difficult. I have gone through at least 5 barbers in the last two years - and now I am searching again for someone who can handle my hair with no bullshit. read more

Kamal is an excellent barber, and a wonderful conversationalist. He has been cutting my hair for many years, ever since he "rescued" me from a bad haircut elsewhere, at no cost! He is the only barber whom I trust to trim my bushy eyebrows. I will say this, though... And this is the ONLY reason I have deducted one star from my formally 5-star review... On occasion, when the shop is really busy - say, when there are more than one or two guys waiting, Kamal tends to rush a bit through my haircut, resulting in a *slightly* less than perfect cut. My recommendation is to try to visit during the week, at, say, 1 or 2 pm, rather than on a busy Saturday morning, for the best cut... Oh, and Kamal only accepts cash -- this is never a problem, as I can always run over to Safeway to grab a bagel and some cash back after my haircut! read more

My 2 year old nephew does not like his hair to be touched and always gave us a hard time whenever we'd get his hair cut. He would cry and scream every time. We decided to give it one more try and I'm so glad we did! Kamal was great with him and made our Alex feel so welcomed and comfortable. This is the place for a straightforward real haircut. No jazz, no pizzaz, just a haircut. Kamal is friendly with nice conversation. He interrupted my cut today only to help a gentleman with a walker get in the door and seated. He paid attention to what I said I wanted... and then he did it perfectly. By the way, Yelp thinks the Plaza Barber Shop is in Greenwood. I think of it more like Crown Hill. It is a door or two from Patty's Eggnest in the QFC center on Holman Rd. It's the small barber shop, not the beauty salon next door. It's CASH only, but inexpensive. read more

I like supporting small businesses, but after a bad cut and experience here I won't be returning. Unhygienic, equipment needs to be cleaned and disinfected. The shop needs to be cleaned too. The haircut was really fast, 10 min, it wasn't really what I asked for. It was sloppy work with the buzzer and scissors but the overall shape of it showed some sense of barbering. He totally messed up the back hairline, he made a mistake, and tried to get me out of there real quick. I went back a few days later (he's closed sun/mon) and asked him to fix it. He acted like nothing was wrong, did some trimming, slight improvement but the mistake was still pretty obvious. Take your $20 elsewhere. read more

Simple, old school barber shop for dude's wanting a reasonably priced cut and aren't looking for a hip shop. Also, Lacee H. said there are pictures of dead animals on the wall, but I saw no such thing. Maybe he took them down. He did have a calendar up with some zebra pictures, but they appeared to be living at the time of the photo. read more

My family has been visiting "Kamal the Barber," for so many years. The place used to be owned by another owner named Richard who had the shop over 40 or 50 years ago. It seems that this is a barbershop for generations as my husband used to visit with the boys, and now my boys take their sons!! Kamal took over about 25 years ago and has kept up so well in keeping the "home like" feeling of a "local barber shop." I had the chance to take my grandsons in for a visit recently and it was so wonderful to see Kamal. Best part was he recognized me and remembered my name!! He asked about my son and the family. It truly felt like home after all these years :) You can tell he is a family man himself as he has photos of his kids, grandkids, wife, etc near the mirrors and it just brings me joy to see this style of barber still exists. I usually am not big on "yelp" reviews, as it seems to be out of my generation. Recently, my grandkids were playing around making comments on Yelp and I asked them to look up "Plaza Barber Shop." NO SURPRISE Kamal had 5 stars!! Sadly, there was one comment from an individual who obviously did this out of spite. Kids these days have too much advantage on the internet and really abuse this power. Something about animals all over the shop? If this young girl knew any better, she would have looked closely at the photos of the animals to notice, the man in the photo was NOT KAMAL. Instead it is his customers that go on safari trips and send him postcards and photos from abroad (bringing to light the great loyalty and friendship Kamal has with his customers, that they think of him even on travels!) Keep your negative comments to yourself, and put your energy into causes to help animals young lady, not trying to negatively speak to a wonderful and kind man with GREAT PRICES on haircuts, and a real barber, practicing from the age of 12!! I really enjoyed going here. Kamal got it right, and got it right in 10 minutes. Since I like getting a haircut every 6-7 weeks, I don't have time to spend an hour every time. Kamal is personable and the cut is cheap at $21. I think all barber shops should be more like Plaza Barber Shop. read more
