You get out of it what you put in. So many people come to a place like this expecting luxury spa treatments and effortless "magic pill" solutions to their addiction. That is not reality. Starlite is a place where you are expected to put in effort if you WANT to get well. The facilities are older, but are comfortable and are undergoing major renovations and improvements. The staff are pleasant and supportive, but they are not here to pamper you so you will want to stay longer or come back again and again. They are here to keep you focused on recovery and getting your head screwed back on straight. There are multiple therapies available because not everybody is going to respond to one style. Once again, though, an addict has to put in the effort to recover as therapy does not work passively. This is a great place to get away from whatever caused the addiction, and to work toward recovery. It removes you from the world where the drug/alcohol was available AND gives you the time to think about and work on getting well so when you leave, you can face that world again with the understanding of how not to slip back into the addiction thinking. I have been to Starlite three times since 2009 and have never had a terrible experience. It isn't the best rehab out there, to me La Ha is better but they have mostly caring staff, a wonderful doctor Dr. Davis, alright good, decent rooms. It's in the hill country and there's a pretty view overlooking the hills in the distance. They have a pool, a store that's open a couple times a week. The classes are ok, but like I said I preferred La Ha over Starlite. I was really enjoying my most recent stay there when my insurance was suddenly no longer accepted so I had to transfer elsewhere. Would I choose Starlite again? Probably not but then again I hope I never need rehab again. So if you're thinking of going, it's not a bad place but definitely shop around and definitely do not go to Ripple Ranch in Spring Branch. read more

Programs like the Liberty program, which serves veterans and first responders, have been downsized to the point where there is only one full-time counselor. Don't go here. As a healthcare provider and family member of someone who went here for alcohol recovery, this place is not the place. Yes, the rooms in detox are shared which is not the problem. The problem is that little tiny armoire that you see that supposed to be sure to put both peoples clothes in. He only took 7 shirts and a jacket and 5 pants to hang and it was full and he was told he would have to take half out and share with the roommate. Even the hospitals with share room have separate closets for belongings. There is a lack of communication on the processes, such as no tour of the facility to show you where you go and not go, no orientation on the expectations such as daily breakfast is at this time and then you go to class and then you have to attend five classes a day. He never knew what he was to do. No overview of the requirements. They told him go plant flowers. How is this therapeutic. He actually said his depression was worse. He was red help and this place wasn't helping someone with moderate AUD. He said the majority of the people there were ex-cons in strung out on drugs. He was in for four days and never saw a doctor and never received individual therapy and no one would tell him when his schedule to see a therapist just that he wasn't scheduled yet. Then, when he wanted to leave and requested that they told him he had to wait for hours before they can let him go Why? For money. He isn't court ordered to go here. And the lack of communication started from the beginning, far is the admission process payment, and insurance verification no one would ever call me back. So we are able to arrange a whole new place in San Antonio for care that has five star reviews and seems to meet his needs better. As a veteran and a healthcare provider, I will never recommend this place for any of the veterans I care for nor any family members EVER!!! read more

I went here broken and Wes close to rock-bottom luckily with this facility they didn't ask me about the ability to pay they just asked me to come there at my own free will. My first two weeks there was really rough and I was not very receptive at the program and what it took to become sober. But when I started doing the work and I started seeing the benefits from doing the work almost within 24 hours of me deciding to do it the rest of my life fell into place it wasn't all rainbows and unicorns by any means but I did the work and I received the benefit of this facility from the staff the counselors and the guest speakers but I have to remind you I had to do my part and that was commit to it when I was able to walk out of those gates from completing the program I state with the AA process and was blessed by someone who might never found out who it was but they paid my money owed to the facility. I can't say that this happens for everybody but it happened to me and if you decide to become sober and you put in your work you will be blessed this facility is a blessing but you have to do your part. read more

Do not go to this facility, I have done the residential and detox. With the exception of the counselors, this place is not recommended and then they advised to go to the crossroads home where it's even worse for sober living. Ask many many questions and don't be convinced that you're making the right decision based on their recommendations. Every treatment will tell you what you want to hear! Plus they have fees for laundry , phones and etc. Also, they lowered the time spent for the "Freedom" Group. Please do your research! read more

This place is SO unorganized. I was here for a few days coming from Houston Tx which is 5 hours away. The website is inaccurate as it states you'll see a counselor often.:which most hadn't seen one and they had been there for over a week. There is no equine therapy, zip lining, ropes courses, pool, trails, or acupuncture like it says on their website. Highly disappointed. If you're in Texas and looking for a good rehab center try the PARC or the Right Step. Those are the best ones I've been to and are probably the best in Texas. Don't waste your time here. Unless you want to slack off all day, stare at the ceilings in absolute boredom, and smoke a pack of cigarettes per day because there's literally nothing else to do.. then by all means this would be your place. But if you truly want help and recovery I would recommend going elsewhere. Staff is pretty nice and tries to do their best..but that is honestly the only positive thing I can say about it. read more

My son has had a problem with drugs and alcohol for many years and he finally was ready for help. Starlite was a great experience all around. From the initial consultation through to the end of his stay. It is obvious the staff cares about its patients as if they are their own loved ones. The first week was very difficult for my son however there is tremendous support and he was able to successfully complete the program and is taking his sobriety seriously this time. We had a very bad experience with Starlite for the following reasons: 1. A patient committed suicide on the premises during the first week which was very traumatic for my son and the other patients. The suicide, plus the abrupt departure of one of Starlite's therapists seemingly caused their management team to go into crisis mode, and as a result, my son did not receive the time, attention and therapy that he should have received as per the contractual agreement. 2. My son did not have an individual therapy session until the end of the second week which is unacceptable. 3. The phone lines were down for several days during his stay which prevented us from contacting him and the facility. This resulted in undue stress and frustration. 4. My son requested numerous times to be transferred to the adult group and his requests were denied despite the same requests being granted for other patients. He was placed in a group of 18-23 year old boys (my son is 23) who were engaging in very juvenile behavior. 5. Starlite Recovery Center advertises and claims to specialize in drug and alcohol addiction. However, their program focuses on alcohol addiction and attending AA meetings. My son chose this facility for drug addiction and should have had access to NA meetings/programs. 6. My son's prescription medicine was not returned to him via mail as promised after we departed. We checked out of the program after two weeks. Overall, we were very unhappy with the lack of professionalism and the overall poor service that we received! read more

I went here one year ago with the worst attitude in the world the staff worked with me and made me understand I really had a drinking problem instead of leaving I stayed for the full program I was able to go thru it after 30 years of drinking hard near death and at rock bottom I can't thank the staff enough this is the only rehab I been to and I would recommend it to any body if you work the the program the program works for you nothing good in life is easy this place is not cheap but cheaper than losing your life and family I thank god every morning that I wake up for guiden me it the right direction please if you struggle with with a vise or a addiction try this place it's no Malibu but it is real and down to earth if you been to rock bottom you been in worse places so here I level this post with one word thanks . This place is the worst recovery center I have ever seen!! It is dirty and very noisy!! There a lot of drugs brought in there by patients who have people from the outside to supply them!! Theft is rampant!! The counselors do not give a crap and you hardly ever get to se them!! There have been several people that have died there while in treatment!!! I am an addict/alcoholic and I found this place to be amazing if YOU want to make it work. This has nothing to do with organization and counseling program and how it is arranged. If you want the treatment, you will do exactly what they say and you will be successful. It's been proven because others have stayed sober. They have good clinical system and they are supportive. I am a practitioner myself, and I got a lot from it because i was WILLING told o what they asked me to. Had my son there and he's going back to fight his addiction. Facilities are nice and I was surprised about the food being served. Healthy and tasty. Interacted with his counselor... a good and experienced man. Attended "Family Weekend" and found the program good and educational. Well, after a 21 day program, my son relapsed and we have decided to send him back for 60 days. Hopefully, we can beat it this time, also hoping that medication will improve and a "magic bullet" will be found. First, I'm thankful for places like Starlite Recovery Center. Theirs is a difficult job, and I'm thankful of the tasks they undertake. If you or a loved one are considering Starlite, here are a few things you should know, especially if your loved one is an adult. Get agreement with your loved at the time of admission that they sign a release you will be able to call and get updates on them. Otherwise, you will become very frustrated and worried. Get an agreement with your loved one that you will not answer their calls while they are in detox. During this vulnerable time, they will likely want to leave. Plus the facility charges (a lot) for all phone calls - either calling card or quarters. It's ashamed they try to make money on this, but they do. So get an agreement up front that you won't answer their calls unless an emergency. If it's an emergency, the facility will call you from the facility phones. Right up front, find out who your loved one's counselor is and ask to speak with them to provide valuable information. Otherwise, they may or may not get all they need to know. You should also be aware that the counselor will only meet with them one time a week - something that probably would have made us change our minds about going to Starlite. Four counseling sessions in a 30-day period isn't adequate. This should be considered an intensive therapy program, and filling the days with just group meetings, isn't going to help your loved one get the therapy they need to get to the heart of their abuse problem. Our precious loved one asked to meet with the counselor more frequently, and the response was, "we'll see." If you need to mail something to your loved one after they arrive, you must mail it either FexEX or UPS. They didn't tell me that, so I wasted money and time sending something to their street address via the USPS. Staff failed to inform me of that "protocol". Whoever you are, my prayers follow you for peace and restoration in your life. read more

Recommended by local Alanon adviser. We visit my son on Sundays as required but no one on premises to discuss his situation. He says he is receiving meds but does not know what. We have tried to find out to no avail as we pay his health insurance, help him connect to primary care providers and will need to know about follow-up.Three attempts to get call back from counselor or nurse have been unsuccessful. We would like to take him to local sober living houses during our visits but no one to ask. Sunday family "psycho-education" seems to be more AA than family oriented with readings from the big book. He is in his third week now. read more

Unorganized and the counselors are terrible. Only meet with patient for an hour once a week. Rest of the time is meetings. A lot of money to meet with an average (at best) counselor once a week. When you ask questions they get offended and are rude. Place is rundown and depressing. They don't work with families to help educate them how to be prepared for their loved on when they come home. Very unprofessional in conversations over the phone. They are in it for the money and could care less about the patients or their families. 1 star is the lowest I can go. Save yourself and/or your loved one(s) the time and find a place that genuinely cares about the patient. read more

Saved my life. Came here in 2014 wasn't quite ready to have sobriety but the seed was planted. When I came back in 2016 and I was willing and wanted to listen. Have been sober since June 16th 2016. So grateful for Starlite to love me when I was not loveable. Just want to add you get what you want to get out of treatment you have to actively be a part of your treatment to expect results. Did the family program both times I went and got a lot out of it. The second time I went no I was not fond of my group counselor( she does not work there anymore) but I went and looked for tech that would listen or counselors that would help. Techs need to have 2 years sober to work there, and I went to people that i wanted what they had they were sober they were happy they were free. I know nothing about the back office stuff that went on there. But I do know that I was made aware of every medical and clinical decision. Sometimes I didn't like what I was told but there is an old saying an addict is only happy with you you are enabling them. It is a 12 step program and big book based so if that's not what you are looking for i suggest you look elsewhere. If you want to find the negative in something you will. I am happier finding the positive in situations now... and Starlite helped me get there by giving me the tools... not doing it for me read more

I was given the run around, ignored and lied to. First of all, my son was admitted for a 45 day program, but only stayed 30 days. I was quoted an original private pay price of 18,600 but they encouraged the 45 day program to the tune of 24,750. After my son left, they agreed I was due a refund, told me it would be "less" because he "broke the contract" (they refuse to show me where it says that) and that the refund would be 6000. When only half that was refunded, I called to see what happened, and after about five calls and a week, was told different things by different people, kept getting transferred, and no one could keep their story straight or even say the same thing twice. At one point I was told they never got my messages but a few minutes later said they got the messages but needed to transfer it to someone else who could handle it. I just wanted the refund I was originally told I was going to get. I was promised a call from the "supervisor", no name given, that same day. I never received any other call. I live two hours away and have a son at home, still working on his recovery, so I don't want to drive down there to be told they are "in a meeting" which is another excuse I've heard when trying to reach them. As for the recovery part, since I'm obviously unimpressed with their business side of things, my son left early because he felt he got all he could out of it. He was bored, as many of the great things they tell you about and show you on the website never materialized. The place was pretty rundown. At one point when I visited, the front door to their cabin was completely broken and had to be locked shut, unusable. The boys were then moved because of construction. I never once received a call from his counselor, though I left messages asking for a call back, and was told in the beginning to call any time. Not one single person ever called to check on my son after he left, or offer any kind of outpatient care or advise. I was astounded and hurt by the lack of compassion for my son. Even though he left early, he was a paying client and we were told repeatedly about the amazing aftercare. But there was none. read more
